For international flights other than Mexico or Canada that means connection flights. The runway length also makes for a unique departure procedure where the planes take off and reduce the power and throttle at 800 feet of altitude. This can be disconcerting for passengers who are unfamiliar with the take off.

It's a…read morequick 10 minute walk to the airport where you go through the parking structure to get to the terminal. TSA pre check was 10 minutes. On the weekend TSA is open at 6am. There's a play area for children. Dog relief area is also available. The women's restroom was clean. Very spacious for luggage to go in the stall if traveling alone. There's also a hook for your bag. I like that there's automated paper hand towels. Lots of food/drink options like Starbucks, Sambazon, Brodaed Express, Qdoba Mexican Eats, Jamba Juice, Taps Brewery, Market 949 (for souvenirs and snacks), and etc. There's a food court with seating near Terminals 14-22. Our flight was for Alaska (Terminal B) but they were in Terminal C since they were using Frontier's gate. Luckily you don't need to go through TSA again and can walk down the long hall to get to a different terminal. Highly recommend flying about of John Wayne Airport when you can!

I recently flew out to Santa Ana (John Wayne Airport) for my first time in several years for a…read moreconference in Anaheim. It was easier to fly into this airport than LAX. I have made a number of trips between Phoenix and Santa Ana previously through both Southwest Airlines and American Airlines. Though I traveled to Anaheim, I didn't have time on my trip to enjoy a lot of what makes Anaheim unique and special (including Disneyland). I flew on American Airlines this time and found myself flying in and out of Terminal A. It was easy to navigate between the gates, baggage claim, and ride-share areas. Unlike friends who absolutely hate flying, I enjoy the travel experience, especially when using some helpful tools like CLEAR, Global Entry/TSA Pre-Check, airport lounge membership, and airline status, most of which I was able to enjoy during my Anaheim visit. When checking in, I typically have been able to skip the check-in area if I didn't need to check bags (as I checked in online). I have previously needing to go and check in at the priority area for assistance and checking bags. I then went to the Terminal A check-in and used Global Entry and TSA Pre-Check Touchless to skip most of the line at Security while keeping my shoes on (thanks to an American Express Platinum card which comes with credits for both along with CLEAR). Santa Ana offers two airline lounges (Admiral's Club and United Club) along with a USO Lounge. The Admiral's Club was upstairs right next to the gate that I ended up flying out of. Fortunately, I already had access to the Admirals Club. I wrote a separate review about my experience there, which was quite positive. There are also plenty of stores and restaurants at the airport throughout the various terminals. Upon arriving with my luggage, I headed to the rideshare area upstairs. There was a staff member there directing everyone to one area or another depending on if you were using Lyft or Uber. Coming back, it was easy to be dropped off at your airline checking area. I have no idea when I plan to be back in Santa Ana again but I would certainly welcome the chance to fly through the John Wayne Airport again.

Not sure whether parking needs validation. The ticket has a spot that says "STICKER HERE", but I asked the attendant. He said parking's free the 1st 30min. Wish this info was clearly posted at the parking entrance.

It's really not a bad International Terminal in itself, and compared to twisting and monstrous…read moreinternational terminals at airports like MIA or DFW. Centered at the rear of the LAX horseshoe upper/lower roadways and the main international gateway for LAX, serving over 45 international carriers and a few domestic flight connections. The worst part is just getting there by car. Always try to give yourself plenty of time because of traffic. Once you're inside the terminal, you usually don't have to take shuttles or leave the terminal; more than 50% of the international flights leave from here. Duty Free is pretty big and there's decent shopping. It's also known as 'Terminal B'. I'm so happy it's still called the Tom Bradley terminal because he deserves to have his name on it. He was an amazing mayor. You can get direct flights to almost anywhere in the world from this terminal. The layout is pretty clear and it's not confusing like CDG or Frankfurt. My favorite lounge here is definitely the Star Alliance lounge because it has an open terrace where you can sit with a view of "The Great Hall"; that's what the large area that includes most of the duty free shopping inside the terminal is called. Star Alliance (and One World) business lounges are upstairs near the top level. The Amex Centurion lounge is underground with no windows and a bit depressing IMO. As far as arrivals, if you have "global entry", it's a breeze. Sometimes I'm in and out in 10 minutes. And if you don't mind paying about $50 extra for a premium Lyft or Uber black, then you can get picked up right in front at the terminal arrivals and don't have to take the shuttle bus and go to the separate ride share satellite area. As I usually travel solo, it depends on how exhausted I am at arrival. If you are tired after a 13 hour flight and have luggage, the shuttle bus that stops at every terminal is a complete nightmare. Which is why I sometimes splurge for the deluxe Uber or Lyft and get picked up at arrivals. I've never seen a "satellite" ride share area which you have to bus to like this one in any airport in the world. I wish they could find a better system though than riding a bus to the satellite rideshare area. I've actually (surprisingly) managed to find some good deals booking through Lyft vs Uber for airport pickups. Don't forget to compare both prices before you select one. I've heard of people actually taking a free hotel shuttle to one of the nearby airport hotels and then catching a rideshare from the hotel to save money, but that may be a little extreme if you have a lot of luggage.

ONT may not have as many shops like LAX or LGB, but it has a lot vending machines. I even found several Kabins for people to wait with privacy. What a great idea! One thing ONT needs to work on is to provide charging stations in the waiting area for passengers. Suck a small airport should not have these issues. LAX is more efficient, JFK is better. Palm Springs is small and better. Minneapolis is seamless. This place STINKS!! Today, we were running late. When we get to the counter, we're informed we've missed the plane and need to rebook. There were still 40 minutes with no TSA line to board. Alaska then informed us we needed to arrive 50 minutes before the flight. Nope, now we had to pay $150 to rebook/missing fought. We are now waiting 6.5 hours until the next flight because the idiots at the counter could not figure out how to get stuck a simple task done. Then the other representative was extremely rude to the family checking in an oversized bag. Nasty all spend this morning and my only other time. We learned we could not take our vehicle out since our reservation was activated. So we had the option to go to a coffee shop or chill out for a quarter of the day since the employee needed to get $150 out of us. Shameless!! Fck this airport.

This is a matter of fact update and is based on sole experience of my recent visit. Hmmm, where to I begin? OK, my story will begin at my experience of checking into a departing flight out of LAX, Terminal 4, the terminal for American Airlines. Preface also by saying the terminal is under massive renovation and has been for some time and when will they complete it? Who knows? OK- Now Pay clear attention- I get dropped off on LEVEL 2 which is the departing level for all flights. My boarding pass is on my phone so I need not stop at the check in counters. I tried, TRIED to be smart and follow the signs as I weave my way through the terminal to get to the departing gates This starts my journey! 1- Signs take me from LEVEL 2 to LEVEL 4 where the TSA check in sites are albeit Pre Check, Regular, Clear and the like. Keep in mind this is just through the security where they check your identification 2- Once past the TSA check in lines you then take the escalators or elevators back DOWN to LEVEL 3 where you then go through the screen machines. 3- once past the screening machines you take the escalator or elevators BACK DOWN to LEVEL 1 (Level 1 is street leve, the place where you normally pick up your luggage on arrival then go out to curbside) NOW I AM CONFUSED. I'M TRYING TO DEPART AND I'M AT THE ARRIVAL STATION???? I look around for signs and there is none. I so I decide to be like a LEMMING and follow the other walkers.... You walk through the tunnels going back in towards the gates and there is counter foot traffic with the arriving passengers. What a mess! Once you get to the end of the tunnel, you will take the escalator or elevator UP to LEVEL 2, the walk to the next bank of escalator and take it UP to LEVEL 3... WAIT Not done yet!!! Then take the escalator UP to LEVEL 4 where the gates are! Did you follow all of this? Do you need a map? Footnote-it was 3643 steps (Yup, counted) ok my watch counted the number of steps it took from the point of getting dropped off at curbside then situated at my departing gate... Has really great food, and I love that part of it is outdoors. Santa Ana has amazing weather, so they definitely capitalize on it. But lets talk about the gates: convenient, near everything, and somehow never crowded. The airport is also very quiet compared to other airports I have been to. It's always a favorite to stop here on my way to my other stops, and with it being clean, less crowded, and easy to get to, truly in my top 10!
