John Glenn International Airport

Southwest has always been a great airline to people are funny. The pilots are funny. Everybody is super super friendly and the airline usually runs smoothly. Unfortunately with the changes they've made and are continuing to make. I don't know if Southwest is any different from other airline. You were able to check two bags for free; now you got to pay. Even though it's a little less than Delta, American, etc., you're still paying for your bags. And beginning, I think next week or next month, there's no lining up to board according to sections, A 1-5, B 6-10. etc. That's right, the airline's going to start assigning seats. You can no longer just go on and sit where you feel like sitting. What's next? Are they going to start charging for seats too?

I had very good experiences on my 4 southwest flights to and from Kansas City, MO from Columbus Ohio! All of the planes were clean and none were over booked so there were plenty of seats to choose from. Tip, go toward the back of plane if need extra space. Every time I was able to have either a row to myself or one seat between us The flight attendants were friendly and I enjoyed the perk of free beverages and snacks. Although they could offer a gluten free selection in the future. My seat mate enjoyed getting a extra snack from me. Take off and landing were perfectly done!

For a VERY short time (possibly less than a year...?) Southwest offered flights out of Dayton, and I was a very happy frequent flyer. Those days are sadly gone, and now CMH is my closest, most economical choice, ESP. when the stars and planets align and I can get a convenient (non-stop), reasonable rate flight to my nearest "home" airport, Islip (ISP) on Southwest. When Southwest is good, they're GREAT!!! When they have problems, well........ You've read the news, they (along with other airlines) have had their "issues," especially during the last few holiday seasons. Still, when bad weather or overbooking/holiday crowds hit, just about every airline will have the same challenges. In my experience, I see SW doing more to make things "right" when issues arise. I also GREATLY appreciate their two checked bags fly free policy. What I'm NOT a fan of (though it's the nature of the game, I guess...) is how now you've got to pay extra to get at the front of their "A" lines, and how they're lately trying to "nickel and dime" you for a lot more "basics" than they used to. I'll keep flying with them, as long as their pricing and flight availabilities are on par with other airlines. Be sure to sign up with their frequent flyer program; the perks are pretty good!!

I booked my hotel and flight through Southwest Vacations and also signed up for the free rewards program so it's a much cheaoer option that others. Other flights may be technically cheaper, but they find other ways to charge you. Other flights have really weird days or times they fly so planning is too complex (Allegiant really only flys Mondays and Fridays) yet our Southwest flights was at 9:55am Sunday and 3:25pm Saturday so much easier to work with. 2 checked bags, a carry on, and a small personal item made traveling much easier so my cot flew free and the Disney helmets went as carry-on without issue. Other flights charge about $40 per bag whether carry on or checked so that cost hurts. Flight had about average leg room so not terrible. No first class available. Group A, then B, and finally C board. As normal people not paying extra to board early and no small children meant we were in group C. This meant we got whatever seats were left and split up our group. Luckily none of us had an issue with that, but fair warning. They serve a random snack in flight as well as a non alcoholic beverage both included in the price. Their flight staff was friendly with no issues. Will fly with them again.

Crowds are back!

On the way to Florida we had a very uptight attendant with an indiscernible accent who gave us the flight instructions. I felt like a first grader on the first day of parochial school and the nun was telling us the deal. My husband agreed it was somewhat condescending . On the way back to Ohio, it was more back to normal friendly tone. No passengers got unruly either way so good.

Perfectly intact wing.

I cannot tell you the last time I've flown any other airline than Southwest. They've never lost my luggage, the staff is always nice, and the planes are clean and sanitized and the flight attendants are vigilant about making sure passengers adhere to Covid requirements. Great job! Oh, and their app is great!

Their cheap fares allowed me to fly back and forth between St Louis and Columbus for every Ohio State home game for 2 years without breaking the bank!

At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if they erased my memory of the whole experience. But accountability? That's one thing they have no interest in making appear... In the early hours of 01/07/2025, my mother and I (both American citizens following U.S. travel guidelines) arrived at the Port Columbus International airport (CMH) around 04:00 AM for our 06:00 AM United 3430 flight, giving ourselves ample time to check in. CMH was only our connecting point to IAD, where we were scheduled to board our actual international flight. Despite this, United's check-in staff insisted my mother and I present our tourist visas. This demand made no sense, CMH was just a connection to IAD, where we would board our actual international flight. Their request was completely absurd because, per IATA's official guidelines for our destination, a tourist visa was not required in advance, as we were eligible to obtain one upon arrival. This highlighted an alarming lack of knowledge for airline employees responsible for passenger check-in. Yet, instead of verifying the information, they denied us boarding entirely. This wasn't a misunderstanding. It was pure incompetence and a blatant refusal to verify U.S. travel regulations and IATA policies. Even when we had a United customer service representative on the phone ready to clarify, the check-in staff outright refused to listen. Instead of handling the matter professionally, we were met with hostility and condescending behavior from multiple check-in employees. One staff member even went as far as to question the validity of the U.S. government's own website, scoffing at the guidelines and responding with, "Well, honey, this is 2025..." as if government travel policies somehow expired at the start of the new year. After over five hours of trying to clarify the situation, their dismissive and condescending attitudes persisted. With no other option, we rebooked our travel through Cathay Pacific for 01/09/2025, entirely at our own expense. Our new itinerary had us flying American Airlines from CMH to ORD, connecting to Cathay Pacific. Because of this, we missed the funeral, adding to an already difficult time and preventing us from grieving properly. We had no such issue flying with American Airlines on a nearly identical itinerary with an international connection on 01/09/2025. Yet, United's check-in staff insisted their rules were different, something I've never encountered before. They claimed we needed to present tourist visas, which was completely false. Airlines don't set their own visa requirements; they follow government regulations and IATA guidelines. Somehow, with this crew, that was up for debate (lol). Their refusal to verify the correct information before denying us boarding was completely unacceptable. That failure to follow proper procedures caused us unnecessary stress, financial loss, and, most importantly, made us miss a loved one's funeral. To make matters worse, United has refused to refund the flights they wrongfully denied us boarding on, despite the fact that their staff's failure to follow basic procedures caused this situation. Instead of taking accountability, they've forced us to bear the financial burden of their mistake. Not only did we lose money, but we had to spend time and energy finding another way to reach our destination. Instead of grieving our loss, we were left scrambling to fix a situation United never should have caused in the first place.
