United is really committed to making things disappear... first my flight, then my review from their…read moreGoogle page lol. At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if they erased my memory of the whole experience. But accountability? That's one thing they have no interest in making appear... In the early hours of 01/07/2025, my mother and I (both American citizens following U.S. travel guidelines) arrived at the Port Columbus International airport (CMH) around 04:00 AM for our 06:00 AM United 3430 flight, giving ourselves ample time to check in. CMH was only our connecting point to IAD, where we were scheduled to board our actual international flight. Despite this, United's check-in staff insisted my mother and I present our tourist visas. This demand made no sense, CMH was just a connection to IAD, where we would board our actual international flight. Their request was completely absurd because, per IATA's official guidelines for our destination, a tourist visa was not required in advance, as we were eligible to obtain one upon arrival. This highlighted an alarming lack of knowledge for airline employees responsible for passenger check-in. Yet, instead of verifying the information, they denied us boarding entirely. This wasn't a misunderstanding. It was pure incompetence and a blatant refusal to verify U.S. travel regulations and IATA policies. Even when we had a United customer service representative on the phone ready to clarify, the check-in staff outright refused to listen. Instead of handling the matter professionally, we were met with hostility and condescending behavior from multiple check-in employees. One staff member even went as far as to question the validity of the U.S. government's own website, scoffing at the guidelines and responding with, "Well, honey, this is 2025..." as if government travel policies somehow expired at the start of the new year. After over five hours of trying to clarify the situation, their dismissive and condescending attitudes persisted. With no other option, we rebooked our travel through Cathay Pacific for 01/09/2025, entirely at our own expense. Our new itinerary had us flying American Airlines from CMH to ORD, connecting to Cathay Pacific. Because of this, we missed the funeral, adding to an already difficult time and preventing us from grieving properly. We had no such issue flying with American Airlines on a nearly identical itinerary with an international connection on 01/09/2025. Yet, United's check-in staff insisted their rules were different, something I've never encountered before. They claimed we needed to present tourist visas, which was completely false. Airlines don't set their own visa requirements; they follow government regulations and IATA guidelines. Somehow, with this crew, that was up for debate (lol). Their refusal to verify the correct information before denying us boarding was completely unacceptable. That failure to follow proper procedures caused us unnecessary stress, financial loss, and, most importantly, made us miss a loved one's funeral. To make matters worse, United has refused to refund the flights they wrongfully denied us boarding on, despite the fact that their staff's failure to follow basic procedures caused this situation. Instead of taking accountability, they've forced us to bear the financial burden of their mistake. Not only did we lose money, but we had to spend time and energy finding another way to reach our destination. Instead of grieving our loss, we were left scrambling to fix a situation United never should have caused in the first place.

I received confirmation numbers for 150 each, but found out later that one of them didn't go through. 2nd, there are not enough agents to handle this mistake. We are 45 minutes and counting waiting in line just to fix this mistake. 3rdly, their online app isn't working. My husband and I tried to check in last night, but none of them went through. 4th, having called 2 weeks in advance, I was told we can sit together. Nope we don't sit together. 2nd promise not delivered. I'll avoid them from now on.

One of the flights was 3 hours delayed causing me to miss my connecting and had to stay overnight . American tried to fight me on providing lodging but eventually agreed. There is never an explanation why the flight was so late - just we were behind - sorry ! Moving forward I will never choose American again . Now, it's American Airlines that I frequent along with past America West Airlines and US Airways patrons. I find that similar to any other airline, customer service is often better than not, but there are always those few hiccups. With American Airlines, you can get someone on the phone, on a chat, on social media, or in person to assist, and with some respect on our part, we can often get what we need. I rarely have luggage issues though there was one time where my bag was broken, and American Airlines gave me a replacement bag while they had my original bag repaired. I find myself regularly flying in and out of the American Airlines gates at Phoenix Sky Harbor and frequenting hubs like Dallas-Fort Worth, Chicago O'Hare, Philadelphia, and Charlotte. Every now and then, I even make it back to Columbus, as I did last week for a conference. Often, my travels require a layover, and my flights are more often than not on time and without delays on departing or arriving. With status, an American Airlines credit card, and membership in CLEAR and Global Entry, I do not pay for luggage, I receive priority luggage handling, I board early, I speed through security, I sometimes receive upgrades, and I access lounges. Traveling has become more of a hobby and habit at the same time, and using American Airlines as my regular go-to airlines, I accumulate miles quickly while also receiving status and Loyalty Point rewards. I have two travel premium credit cards: the AAdvantage Executive Mastercard offering complimentary Admirals Club access and the American Express Platinum card offering other lounge access along with travel credits along with complimentary CLEAR and Global Entry membership. In Columbus, I was able to enjoy access through my AMEX Platinum to the Escape Lounge. Through T-Mobile, I receive free WiFi on American Airline flights. Through my American Airlines AAdvantage status, I get upgrades or free paid snacks and drinks on flights along with other benefits. To retain status each year, you need to earn Loyalty Point through flying, credit card spending, and promotions. You also can earn Loyalty point rewards after hitting 175,000 points, 250,000 points, and so on. While it is difficult to receive upgrades due to so many people at the Executive Platinum status tier, the benefits I do receive is worthwhile. I also have experienced technical issues on flights but not enough to cause me to abandon American Airlines, especially when every other airline has these same challenges. All in all, American Airlines is a great company and does as well if not better than any of the other major airlines.

We had mobile boarding passes, printed boarding passes, and Delta bag tags clearly showing that we were scheduled to fly that day. Despite the documentation directly in front of her, an agent named Tabitha repeatedly insisted that our flight was not until the next day and that we had arrived one day early. She also incorrectly claimed that we had flown into Columbus on July 16, although our trip was July 18-20. This was not one mistaken statement that she promptly corrected. She continued presenting false information as fact, refused to meaningfully listen to us, and did not appear to properly verify the clear travel documents we showed her. When we became understandably alarmed, she repeatedly told us not to "get worked up" and said she would "fix it." There was nothing to fix. We were correctly ticketed for DL1750. My husband and I are both disabled veterans. Tabitha made us believe we might miss our flight, lose our travel arrangements, or be stranded. Her misinformation caused severe and completely unnecessary anxiety. She then spoke to us in a rude, dismissive, and condescending manner for reacting to the crisis she had created. I have never been treated this badly by a Delta employee. A customer-facing agent who repeatedly provides passengers with false flight information, contradicts valid boarding documents, and belittles distressed travelers should not be working at a ticket counter. I have submitted a formal complaint requesting an investigation and serious disciplinary action. This experience severely damaged our trust in Delta and has made us reconsider flying with the airline again.
