I have waited a year to post a review about Active Travel, to let some of my frustration towards this company settle a bit. My fiance and I were planning a destination wedding and we decided to use Active Travel, as we had read a few good reviews. Jeannie was our agent and from the beginning I should have trusted my gut and walked away.
It started with booking the wrong dates, that was easily corrected as we were more than a year out, but a red flag. Getting a hold of her was nearly impossible. Anytime you would call, she would never be there, and if she was she has to call you right back. Every time you spoke with her, it was as if she was sooo busy doing something else that she would rush you off the phone and it sounded as if she was digging through stacks of papers to locate your file.
Pricing was another issue. I was told that we were getting the best price, but was actually paying close to $900 more than what I could have had by just booking one room directly with the resort. We were supposedly getting a group rate as we had 12 rooms that were going to be booked. I called and informed her of this, and she "magically" matched the prices.
Communication with other guests was a joke. Some people were so frustrated with not hearing back from her about booking, that they just went ahead and booked directly through the resort in fear that it would be sold out. Other people were constantly calling me for help in booking and finding flights. We used an agent for a reason. We wanted our wedding planning to be as easy as possible. I felt like I was doing her job the entire time. I found our flights, our parents flights, and friends, as she was not proactive about it all. Her advice to me when i called her about flights, was to search for them myself, and when i find a good deal call her and she would book them. Isn't that what she is supposed to do?
Before the trip she offered to book our transfers for us, I declined as the prices she gave as well as what you got was not a good deal. Well two days later, I see my credit cards were charged for the transfers i said that I did not want. I called her and she acted like she forgot and said, instead of her crediting me back, she would just book the transfer i wanted for the price she charged me. I had very specific requests as it was my wedding and I wanted to do something nice for my wife and I as well as we had lots of luggage as we were staying for two weeks. I asked for a luxury SUV or Limo, and champagne and Strawberries, as this is what another company was offering for the same price. She said she would take car of it. Well we arrived in Mexico, only to find out that she had booked us a small sedan that would not fit our luggage. We had no choice but to pay an extra $160 on the spot for a Cargo van.
We decided that we were not going to let any more of Jeannie's over sights ruin our trip and had a fantastic vacation.
We called her when we got back and told her about the transfer mishap, and she did refund the money we had to pay to the transfer company, but still paid an overpriced amount for a cargo van with bottled water.
Save yourself the hassle and plan it yourself or use another company. read more
