But who am I to question such things. It also seems like there's a "the" or two missing somewhere in the name of the tour, but again, I know nothing.) With 9 astounding historic places on the tour this year, I can only imagine that it will be wonderful year after year. It was founded by the owners of the Lumber Baron Inn, which is apparently featured on the tour every year. From their loving and astounding restoration of a previously condemned Victorian on 37th Ave., you know they have an eye for what makes the Highlands area so great. While the wow factor of the homes on the tour was undeniable, I have to be honest and say that the event lacked organization. Given that it is a fundraiser, you have to give some wiggle room for amateur planners, but if they went on other neighborhood tours they might learn a few things: like publicize the same starting time in all advertisements (not 11 am in some places, noon in others), make it clear where and when you can purchase advance tickets (I tried to buy mine directly from the school, prominently listed as a place to buy tickets, and was turned away), get a certain traffic flow going through the homes (present in some, not all). I will say that I spoke with the owners of the Lumber Baron, Julie and Walt Keller, since their number was on the tour's website. They were wonderful to deal with and very kindly helped me out with my ticket snafu although they are not the planners themselves and were in no way responsible. I hope that the planners can work out some kinks in the coming years. But even if they don't, and they keep the same caliber and diversity of homes in the future, I will highly recommend this tour for anyone who loves historic homes, regardless of the inconveniences!

My friends and I were wondering the neighborhood for the highlands garage sale day and came across…read morethe Jewels of the Highlands open house. When we walked up to the house we were asked to put on booties, no big deal, the lady asked to stamp a booklet and we said we didn't have a booklet and they let us in. Little did we know that it was not an open house. We made it nearly to the back of the house on the main floor and another woman host yelled at us from across the room as if we were three adolescents misbehaving. It was so embarrassing to be yelled at by an adult in a public yet in a professional setting. The three of us are homeowners in the neighborhood and were shocked to be treated so rudely by people that share a love for our area. The host rudely demanded that we need to show her our papers and then asked us to immediately leave and not return unless we purchased tickets. She did explain that it was for a fundraiser for Skinner middle school but her tone and approach were completely unprofessional and alarming. Needless to say I will not be purchasing tickets to go to another home show.

My baby loved the outside garden play area where she could play with musical instruments, climb on wooden logs and see their little gardens. This is our home library branch, which we frequent often -- pre-pandemic 2-3 times a week and…read morepost-pandemic about once every couple of weeks depending on life. My toddler loves the Storytime and Tots Tunes classes, and it's so nice to have some structured "class" time for the littles. It's also nice that they follow each class with play time so the mamas can have some time as well! The calendar of classes and events is posted online and now they allow online registration for their more popular classes that tend to fill up quickly. So much nicer than driving over only to find out there's no more room in a class! The children's library area is nice that it's separate, but could definitely use some updating and improvement. There's a staff desk that no one ever sits at on one side, and on the other side is a little area that they set up for play. Pre-pandemic there were a bunch of toys for the kids which have since been removed. There's also a huge hot air balloon in that area, but it is also just taking space as there are signs not to touch it or sit in it. Staff is nice and helpful at this location, and the building is very bright with lots of windows.

Here at the Aurora Library, there's plenty of parking in the lot. Signing up for a card was quick and easy. All I had to do was show my CO ID and a piece of mail with my name and current address to show that I was from Colorado. When visiting for the 1st time it may seem closed or under construction because of all the chain link fences. This is simply not so. The fences are there for the Police station sharing the other side of the building. Speaking of Fences , it's a beautifully written piece by August Wilson. One of my favorite authors. The history on how he wrote was so interesting to me when I was in College and took African American Literature studies. I recommend that title. The Library attendants are very helpful and will guide you to any section you might be looking for and they are very knowledgeable. I enjoyed that they were engaging and not passive. They have movies to check out too , some DVDs some BluRays. They have current titles which is great. They have music and audio cds to check out as well. I have been adding a few to my music library. However, the music is a bit outdated. Currently (Spring 2021) magazines cannot be checked out. There is a great perk of being a member of the library right now where they have curbside assistance. Sometimes they give away books, music , audio books and I got a great one that happened to be in my interest. That was cool, and I'll be back to this library for sure.

If you're worried about paper you can buy a box of reamed paper for $25.00 at Costco or Sam's Club. And to refill the ink I don't know but can't be an enormous fee. Obviously I didn't get the copies.

This library is interesting since they put the childrens section up front, unlike many that Ive…read morebeen to that place it in the back or hidden away in some corner. The lower level is the main section where most people read, do homework, or work on their laptop. This library is within walking distance from other governmental buildings and the History museum, so you can just park your car in one of the parking lots and do everything in a short amount of travel in between them. I really like all the artwork and sculptures in a around these buildings, adds a nice touch.

This is a pretty great place - it is in between Denver and Colorado Springs. It keeps building up…read moresome but a lot of the office places that are rented cannot stay. I wish those office spaces would be rented out before other buildings are built. The community is pretty, about 35 sub-HOAs and they are working on a new website for the community - http://www.cpnhoa.com. There is no soliciting - you have to apply for a permit. The parking structure is a it chaotic. You sometimes have to go down farther so you can turn back into the community. All in all, it is a small community with friendly people and you don't get that "nosy neighborhood" feeling you sometimes get with smaller communities.
