Long review long; We recently bought a 100 year old house in Dallas and wanted a pool (how do people live here without one?), though we weren't sure how possible that would be in a smaller yard with a centuries worth of Dallas utilities buried throughout it. We (like you probably are right now....) did our research and reached out to about a dozen pool companies. Most we found online but, in addition to their great online reviews, Summerhill was referred to us by a friend; always a good sign. Some companies didn't even reply as I'm sure they weren't up to the challenge of putting a salt water pool oasis in the back yard of a 100 year old craftsman. Others came out and had their own ideas of what we should do. Bryce, fromSummerhill, came out and listened to what we wanted, added his own expert knowledge and came up with an amazing design that combined all of it. The bid process alone was impressive, compared to others and, while they weren't the cheapest, they weren't the most expensive either. We knew, if we were going to go all in, we were going to do it with Summerhill. Probably the best decision we've made at this old house! Fast forward a few months and Jacob, our project manager, and his team at Summerhill transformed our run down, old Dallas backyard into a spectacular salt water pool oasis that we are able to enjoy year round. The pool view alone from my kitchen window would be worthy, but nothing is better than lounging on the pool ledge, quiet night swimming in the deep end, or dunking our 12 year old son in a fierce game of pool basketball. After purchasing my home right as the summer months were upon us, there were no other companies with availability. They're unprofessional and will attempt to scam you out of your money as they attempted to charge me a starting price of $1700 to open up my pool (eventually paid another company that charged me less than $300) as they stated the pool needed a full drain with acid wash. Then they claimed that filter cleans were $135 per clean and that mine likely needed at least 3, when the company that opened my pool included it in their price. The tech also used my pool tools rather than the company's, and then the secretary/manager (TJ) took the tech's side (without any discussion) after I complained about the pool not being vacuumed (not once all summer), walls being partially brushed, water left running from the hose into the pool all night without my knowledge, and the pool overall not being cleaned properly. They didn't even bother to have a ledger stating what pool services were completed or chemical levels until after I complained. Stay away from these crooks ... You've been warned.

I called Carlos in a panic after a pool company went back on a promise to come out to take care of a pool startup process after we replastered our pool. It was imperative that we have chemicals added to our pool the day I called and Carlos, understanding the need and urgency, told me he would have someone out there that day. He had someone out within the hour. Since then, Diamond Pools has been out to oversee our startup and take care of our pool filter-- all to ensure that our family can safely swim this holiday weekend. Carlos is our pool hero. Unfortunately I am not able to rate my experience as 5 stars. Initially I thought I had found the…read moreperfect company (I got the "we'll fix your gate latch" treatment and they loved the family dog in the sales meeting...). That has all subsided and it has been a very poor experience. I have never written a negative review of any business prior to using Ranger Pools, but I feel compelled to inform others of my experience. The issue arose when I noticed a leak in my pump, of which I could tell they left a piece off the equipment when servicing it. What followed was 2-3 weeks of frustration in them not addressing the issue (after they took the piece off). They either responded with a quick note about they will fix it tomorrow or no response at all. My frustrations really escalated when they made regularly weekly visits and did not fix it - they would send out the "everything's good" type of weekly status report. The only way I could get them to address my concern was writing a Yelp review. A few minutes after that went up they sent an email asking what I wanted. I said I know you haven't been servicing my pool to my expectations for at least the last month, please fix my leak and give me the last month's charges back and in return I would remove the Yelp review. They fixed the pump finally, but to this point there is no refund. As unorganized as they are, I'm just watching for the next month's recurring charge, even though I cancelled them long ago. I hired a new company to come out and I got even more shock. Despite the most recent weekly report from Ranger showing cyanuric acid levels as 30-50 ppm which they labelled "ideal," the new company found the level to be 300 ppm! For those that don't know, this is a chemical that slows down the reaction of chlorine so it doesn't evaporate too quickly. When you get a level over 100 ppm you essentially lock up the chlorine from working at all. And you can't get it out of your water, overtime fresh water will dilute it but at levels as high as I have I am left with the likely option of having my water pumped out and having to start fresh. This is because bacteria and algae will be certain and there are some health concerns in having that high of level of acid. Of course, with North Texas water restrictions I may have some hoops to jump through and some extended loss of use. To verify the new company had a correct reading, I took it to Leslie's and unfortunately they came up with a similar result and prognosis. The pool will need to be drained. I've tried to reach Brandon and the tech numerous times throughout this to reach a resolution and correspondence is limited and they take no responsibility. How in the world did it go from "ideal" to disaster in a 7 to 10 day period? Or did this happen in a 10 day period (Leslie's staff tells me you'd almost have to try to do that in that short of period)? Did the tech lack the knowledge to do the readings or did he just skip over parts of the service? These are all things I am wondering. One thing is for sure, they are very careless with my property. It was common to find pool items strung across the yard and landscaping, computer boxes on the equipment left open, leaves remaining in pump baskets and the gate was always left unlatched for the dog to escape if we didn't notice it first. Brandon's response to what happened and the possible resolution, written 10/1/14: "Jay We call it old water and it happens to every pool after a period of time. It's normal and unavoidable." My pool just turned 3 years old. I am not an expert but I don't think it is normal to have to drain the water every three years due to chemical imbalance. And it hardly explains why it went from "ideal" to emergency situation in a short amount of time. But maybe that is "unavoidable" for Ranger pools too. A little customer service, accepting a little responsibility and offering some form of refund or ways to correct the problem would have resolved this. But their customer service is non-existent. I'd encourage all to keep looking - don't buy into the friendly sales pitch...
