If I could give this place a zero, I would. Almost 50 dollars for dry brisket and very few pieces of it. Old,greasy, shoestring fries. And the "philly steak and cheese" comes on a small roll bought from Kroger. The beef was cold and dry. The whole thing was wrapped in plastic wrap. The Brunswick Stew was probably the best part of the meal,and even that wasn't great. Had to load it down with hot sauce just to give it flavor. The service was...eh. These were the tenderest ribs ever!!! I got them without sauce and they were perfect to taste. The Brunswick stew and Cole slaw were both excellent. We also have the pulled pork sandwich which was so tender and sauced perfectly. We drove an hour to get here and will definitely be back!!! read more

This is where you come if you want overpriced, cheaply made, boiled, steamed, and mush "bbq". I mean seriously I worked with Navy cooks that made stuff like this. And their reputation preceded them. We called what they made dog food and it wasn't much better. For real, look at the picture of that stuff slapped on a Great Value bun. What my pic shows is the Lunch Special. I gotta admit it is "special". And when I asked to sub the chips for potato salad the manager first said no-charge, then she changed her mind, so then she charged me another $1.15 for the 2 ounces of vinegar mash she gave me. The Brunswick stew really did look like dog sick. It didn't taste that much better with the exception that they like a lot of vinegar in this place--the potato salad, the stew, and the sauce mixed in with the meat. Brunswick stew is great when done right. And ever better when it's the real deal made with game. But this was more like that "Campbell's" vegetable soup recipe our moms made that we all ate as kids but nowhere near as good. Not even close. And the cooks must have been raised during the depression because the water content was doubled. Or maybe it was the extra vinegar--or crappy ketchup. No stew here, just thin soup. I have reviewed before about something you might find on your tray at school, and I'll say it again. This was true school lunch style food. Right up there with UFOs (fried bologna with a mashed potato scoop). Now maybe you like that stuff, but I wasn't fortunate enough NOT to have to pay for it like in the Free Lunch program. I think I got the shaft cause I musta paid for the equivalent of several lunch trays in value for this. And I didn't even get a milk! I have had some good bbq in Georgia, but this weren't it. Yes I was in the South, and yes there is a heritage here, apparently. But I would say that this is either a penal farm or a carpetbagger recipe. I certainly wouldn't go around implying it is anything from a respectable Dixie cookbook. read more

I'm from the west coast and was on a road trip through the south. I was excited for some authentic southern BBQ and was very disappointed. The portion sizes were really small, and the meat was a little cold. The sauce was ok, but didn't make up for the few thin slices of brisket they gave me for $12. I've been to a bunch of BBQ places in the south and can honestly say this one was the only one that left me disappointed. Would definitely recommend avoiding this place. read more

These guys get it, friendly staff, EXCELLENT BBQ!!! Their ribs are on point, the fries are amazing, sweet tea is rocking! My favorite is the Sausage Slaw dog. My only advice, find a better name for the Sausage Slaw dog, it doesn't just roll of the lips. That is the only thing I can think of and honestly it's kind petty. This is a consistently good place that our family agrees on, or with a group of friends as well. We really really like the BBQ and often will pick up one of the convenience packs to eat at home. In the winter its nice to have the choice of soup with a sandwich or even cornbread. Never had anything I didn't like. Good stuff and not overpriced! read more

Great bbq! Sauce should be optional, I agree with other yelpers on this because they everyone is different and some days it's more than I'd prefer but it's still good either way. This is a family owned business. Therefore it gets 4 stars. The BBQ ribs have a deep smoke rig and good flavor. They weren't fall off the bone but they weren't naw off the bone either. JUUST RIIIGHT! They have a huge menu. Its not going to impress you if your looking for music and ambiance. The previous reviewers must have came on a bad day or they were having a bad day! Everyone has them. The sauce was super runny and not flavorful. The untoasted white bread was stale. The macaroni cheese bites were goo, tho. Yuck this place just isn't for me yet somehow I really like Ricks in East Dublin and somehow the two are related! I had the Brisket today and it came straight out of the refrigerator. I could tell it was over cooked once I saw it come out of the frig but I had already paid for it at that moment. They then microwaved it to hell and back again thus ensuring it would be nice and dried out! I know why the brisket is dried out after cooking in the smoker, it is not properly cut! Some of the pieces were very tall, they need to trim the brisket to a uniform shape so they don't have to overcook it. A little heavier rub wouldn't be bad on the outside also! read more

Driving down to Hilton Head after flying into Atlanta from Denver, I was desperately trying to find a good place to stop and eat. Unaccustomed to seeing small BBQ shacks, we almost passed over Southern Heritage for the larger, more impressive looking "Zaxby's" right down the road. When I did decide to give the unassuming eatery a chance, I was delighted to see a surprisingly clean, family owned business with affordable prices, and fresh cooked food. Ribs can be bought be the pound, or by the rack, and their signature sauces offer variety for those (like myself) who sometimes cannot stand extremely spicy food. Even more interesting was to see that the place appeared to be the local favorite, and one often experienced the movie style phrase of "the regular?" Followed by a complex order being delivered without a word said by the customer. A great place for those driving through, or living in the area. Don't be turned off by the humble outside. Southern Heritage BBQ is worth the trip. Pros: Clean restaurant with well maintained restroom. Cheap prices and great food. Also, a drive thru for hurried travelers. Had tried the brisket here a few months ago and was disappointed. Decided to give them another try yesterday since it's a locally owned place. I was in a huge rush and the drive thru line was wrapped around the building. I decided to order from inside and was able to walk up straight to the counter and place an order for just a BBQ sandwich since I assumed it would be the easiest/fastest. Big mistake. After waiting 20 minutes I asked about my order and was told it would be right out. After another 20 minutes I gave up and asked for a refund. They then somehow came up with my sandwich. Didn't get an explanation or an apology or anything. The drive thru line had cycled thru several times during my wait. The gentleman that waited on me with the shaved head seemed to be in charge/ manager/owner, but that's just a guess. A simple apology would have gone a long way, but I guess that would have been too much. read more
