Piled high chicken nachos
Kim W.

The weather this weekend was perfect so took a ride up the river road to Grafton and tried out this new restaurant. The tiki hut overlooking the river was beautiful with plenty of seating and umbrellas for shade. They had live music with a one man band, who was very talented and volume level tolerable so you could listen to the music and enjoy a conversation. They were somewhat busy and I think short-handed as it took 20 minutes to get our water and 50 minutes for food and cocktail. I understand with it being new and busy but the server should have acknowledged the wait. We shared the Chicken Nachos which was delicious, great seasoning on the chicken and piled high with all the fixings. Plenty for 2 as a meal. The Banana Hammock drink was refreshing. Despite the wait in service, we'll be back to give them a second chance.

Great addition to Grafton. Food and drinks were great. Service was good and we love what they did with the place. Inside & out looks amazing.

Zoom in on this mushy undercooked fish. We didn't even get a full refund. This was served to a child.

Service very slow. There were open tables inside and outside. Immediately sat for service. Cocktail menu is lacking. Drinks tasted like juice. It took almost TWO hours to receive our food. Seafood boils looked and tasted like they had set out for thirty minutes. Rice bowl looked equivalent to Taco Bell. My son's fish and chips were terrible. Fish was mushy and undercooked. Also arrived late as it was cut off of our order. The waitress was not apologetic. She told us the best she could do was 50% off of the fish meal. My son did not eat any of the fish. It was completely undercooked and mushy under the batter. I did not finish my crab and shrimp boil. It tasted old. My husband had the lobster and shrimp boil. Two lobster tails that looked like just one, sliced into two. Price does not reflect this. Grafton is known for wonderful fish and summer cocktails. This place served neither. Truly the worst meal I have ever eaten in Grafton. Skip it. Too many good fish places to waste your time here.

Tiki Bar with outdoor seating. There is also indoor seating available.

Great place with beautiful views, great service and delicious food! Grafton Illinois is fortunate to have such a great place with music on the weekends!

Fish tacos

Located on the Illinois river, this newly built restaurant has great views and offers both inside and outside seating. We sat outside in a gazebo area which was extremely clean and ample space. Upon seating we were quickly seated and our waitress quickly followed. My wife ordered a $10 glass of wine which was extremely short on volume. We took the plastic cup home it was served in and it measured at 3 ounces. Our order was Mahi mahi tacos which were excellent as well as Jerk chicken plate which though well cooked was bland. Service was good.

Birria Flautas, the sauce was smoky and super good!

Food was awesome, super clean restaurant. Great tiki bar drinks. Mahi sandwich was super good, Birria flautas, grouper bites all great.

Delicious! Amazing experience! The food was fresh and flavorful, the staff was super friendly, and the atmosphere felt so welcoming. Definitely one of my new favorite spots in town."

View of river under the coolest tiki bar!

The view is amazing, service was great (Tabitha is very sweet!) and the food was excellent. Jerk chicken, a cheeseburger, fish taco and a grouper sandwich -- all of it was delicious!! We can't wait to come back!

Island Girl drink!

We visited on a Saturday afternoon and 3rd Chute was packed. They do have multiple bars and places to sit on the 3 levels and was able to find some seating. Servers were pretty busy and took a minute to get menus, are drink order and listen to the specials. 3rd Chute does have live music on weekends which was very good. 3rd Chute is a pretty cool place, Lots of great decor everywhere you look which gives the place that cool bar and grill feeling. We started with some mini corn dog appetizers and some Mac and cheese poppers, a fried blend of macaroni and pepper jack cheese fried to perfection. We also ordered a classic cheeseburger with fries, pork tenderloin sandwich, pulled pork sandwich with fries and a grilled hot dog with fries. It took a few minutes to get our food with how busy the place was. Our server did check up on us to make sure our drinks were topped off. Food was cooked to order and was a good portion for those with a hearty appetite. There are several other bar and grills in close proximity to 3rd Chute. Most other places had more seafood options, which unfortunately we had allergies to. 3rd Chute's menu had all the classic food options a great bar and grill usually has available. 3Rd Chute Bar and Grill was a cool experience and highly recommend if you're visiting Grafton and looking for some good food with reasonable prices. We'll be back!

The oysters were the bomb of course. The biscuits were so crispy but soft on the inside and the shrimp butter had the perfect umami flavor! Entrees: Fish Sandwich & Jerk Chicken Burger. Both perfectly executed! Texture, flavor, spice! We ordered the beet salad as a light side to our sandwiches. If you like earthy flavors, this salad is for you! The beets and dandelion greens are earthy and slightly bitter while the cheese adds a layer of creaminess and sweetness from the walnuts. Drinks: Birds of Paradise (YUUMM) It's sweet and tart. The food is great. The drinks are well crafted. There's something for everyone here. Love happy hour. Fries are delish. Chicken sandwich and coconut shrimp are bangers. Boyfriend loves the lobster roll, but it's not huge! We've had wonderful service anytime we've been here. The lighting is dim. It's a perf date night. Desserts are also a hit! Ask the servers for their recs. If you're going for brunch, also excellent. I've been once. The lobster enchiladas were 10/10.

He made some suggestions after I asked a few questions. Ended up with the Denial and Error made with Strawberry Infused Cambio Blanco Tequila, Black Sesame-Miso Syrup, Lime, and Chocolate Walnut Bitters. So different but so good as is always the case! I loved how the miso and sesame came through. My other pick was what my daughter was going to get so I got to try that, too! The So Hip It's Outta Sight made with Blanco Tequila, Green Chile Vodka, Creole Shrubb, Cranberry-Sage Syrup, and Lime. It was sweet and good. I would order either of them again. We arrived late on Sunday, around 9:00 PM and they closed at 10:00 not realizing till we were in and seated that no one else was there, we must have passed the last person that came out as we were coming in. Everyone was very gracious; we had one drink and were on our way. I normally have two but didn't want to overstay. I love this place!

We ordered the Old Fashioned flight, and when I say they did not come to play... they did not come to play. Each one was crafted differently, and you can tell there's real skill behind the bar. These are not bartenders -- these are mixologists. Every drink was balanced, strong (in a good way), and thoughtfully made. Quick tip: If you plan on getting the Old Fashioned flight, make this your last stop of the night... because you will feel it. Despite that, the other tables seemed to receive constant attention while our waitress disappeared for long stretches of time. We were initially seated in the side room with a large industrial fan blowing so hard that it was moving the menus off the table. We waited for the waitress to return so we could request a different table, but she never came back, so we moved ourselves to another empty table away from the fan. She seemed unhappy about the move and told us we might have to relocate again because they were expecting a busy day. Honestly, the restaurant was empty, and we would have been finished long before any rush started -- which we were. I asked for ketchup with my burger, and it didn't arrive until after I had already finished eating. Overall, the service was very poor. Unfortunately, the food was also extremely salty -- and we're people who normally enjoy salt. I had the Farmhouse Burger with Brussels sprouts and mac and cheese, while my wife ordered the steak and fries cooked medium well. The steak came out medium rare, and both her fries and my burger and Brussels sprouts were overly salted. The one bright spot was the mac and cheese, which we took to go. My daughter tried some and said it was the best she'd ever had. To top it off, our bill came to an even $100 with tip, and all we had were waters and the items mentioned above. We had been wanting to try Retreat for quite a while, so this experience was very disappointing. Between the poor service and underwhelming food, we probably won't be coming back.
