So be mindful of the freshness lol! The staff was polite & called our back to us. There was no wait for us. I even noticed the walk up window which can be convenient if you have the time. I appreciate their professionalism when ordering & it seems like a nice location that will around for a long time. I went here for a quick bite! I thought this was a sit down spot but I was surprised to only see a walk up order window and 2 drive thru lanes. The parking lot was clean and the building itself is pretty new. I ordered a 2pc dark with a bread and jalapeño pepper. Ordering was fast and efficient. I was in town looking for a bite but didn't feel like dining in at a fancy establishment. I decided to give Southern Classic Chicken a chance. The first drive thru lane is very tight. Be cautious as not to curb your tires. Both employees i interacted with were pleasant. I was surprised with fresh, hot food so close to closing time (1115p.) The competition would've attempted selling me the remaining chicken already prepared. I'm not a fan of bread but I was starving so I ate the roll, lol. The red beans had to be the freshest I've tasted in forever. Overall, I greatly appreciated the homemade flavor and Southern Classic will definitely be my first choice when I think of fried chicken. read more

Drive thru fried chicken. Not gonna lie, the skin was crispy and fried to perfection. In my opinion, price wise was on the cheaper side compared to Popeyes and Church's. 8pc dark was $15 and a large box of fries was another $7. I did notice that the menu sign had the sides for $6 but it was charged a different price on the receipt so I'll have to double check it the next time if I go. Took about 15-20 minutes to be in and out and we got there around 2:50/3:00pm and got out of the line with chicken in hand by 3:25pm or so. It started as one line but then split to two before you ordered. The first sign showed some popular items but the full menu had a lot more. Flavor wise Popeyes is more flavorful. The only thing I enjoyed was how well it was cooked. Not bad but not great. Glad I was able to try it! read more

Hmmmm. The chicken was good. I remember the ones in Monroe having more flavor. And the ones in Shreveport being absolute BOMB! the consistency with the seasoning wasn't there for me. But the service Top Tier! And I forgot to ask the name of the cashier. She was so kind. My card for some reason declined, when she ran it at first. And she came back and asked me if my cards was locked, and I appreciated so much the way she phrased it. Turns out my card was locked and we had a good chuckle. Service was fast and friendly. So this place is brand new to BR & opening day the drive through line was literally no exaggeration like 100 cars deep! I knew I'd wait until the hype died down before I tried. I wanted a late dinner/something quick & my husband suggested this place. He picked it up so I cant speak on the line or service. I got the #1 which was 2 pieces of chicken (mixed), fries a roll & a drink. I was a little sad there wasnt a spicy option but actually that ended up not mattering because the chicken was so flavorful! And the fries were perfect, no ketchup needed. Well tried Southern Classic Chicken today. The wife was by there and there were minimal people in line so we thought what the heck, let's give it a try ! All I can say is "meh" didn't see what all the hoopla was about! When she got home The order wasn't correct but hey it's chicken. The rolls were less than fresh , as if they had been open a while, and we had items missing. But we counted it as new business jitters. Hopefully they will get it together.So as for the taste , think Churches with more seasoning ! On a positive note the fries were really good! Lafayette's location opened in May or so and I heard about the lines/wait but I did not expect it in Baton Rouge--wrong--incredible lines when it first open but since mid-September my drive bys saw reasonable or no lines---and I finally stopped in a couple of nights ago--it was close to 9:45 pm and there was only 1 car in line. Not sure what you can say about ambiance of location when it's a drive thru but the parking lot was clean and to me was well lit and there was a police unit providing security--menu looked simple and with much variety--normal and customary chicken--dark or white--and tenders---can order a pieces to I believe a 20 piece--prices are reasonable , with dark meat only offerings. Per the norm there are options for sides but did not get any. Think all orders come with a roll and they provide you with ketchup regardless if fries are ordered. But how was the chicken---that's what you want to know, right? Because the chicken tasted fresh and not too greasy at 9:44 pm this place gets 4 stars--after all old or overly greasy is not desired, but I did consider only because the taste and spice left me unimpressed. Perhaps it's the expectation but I was not "wowed" by the product and that was disappointing. The roll they provide is a roll--not a biscuit--and needs butter. Okay for those of you who have been wondering (and extremely annoyed) by the blockage of traffic on South Sherwood Forest due to the new business that opened in between the Piccadilly Cafeteria and Dairy Queen called 'Southern Classic Chicken' - I decided to get out fairly early for lunch today and deal with the line to try them out for the first time. When I got into the line on South Sherwood Forest there were approximately 12 cars ahead of me (in the street that is) but once you roll into the parking lot of their business, cars have to go in a double circle before you can order - somewhat similar to what some Chick-fil-A outlets do with their drive up service, but with much less space to deal with the amount of cars. So let me say up front for those of you too impatient to read the whole review is the chicken worth the wait...No - not in my opinion. From when I join the line on South Sherwood Forest to the time that I left their parking lot with my chicken, it was nearly 50 minutes. Maybe some people don't mind waiting that long with their car running in idle for a meal, but for me...that meal better be exemplary to be worth that much trouble. Sorry to say it was not. That's not to say the chicken wasn't hot or tasty. It was juicy and tasty. The spice mix that they use is just enough to give it a good flavor, without it being a 'hot' spicy. But as with just about every other bone-in fried chicken place, the chicken was exorbitantly greasy. Even with the abundance of napkins that they provided (and some wet wipes in my car), my hands still felt like flypaper (sticky) until I finally reached a bathroom with real soap and water. HERE ARE SOME THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW: there is no counter or sit-down service to eat at this business, not even outside tables like Sonic. It is strictly a drive-through business with a small window on one side of the building where you can walk up place an order to wait and then "walk off" with your order to eat elsewhere. Speaking of which, I can only imagine the frustration of the managers of both Piccadilly Cafeteria and the Dairy Queen on either side of this business because people are parking in their lots to walk over to place orders to get at the window because the line for drive-thru is so outrageously long and ridiculously slow. FOR YOUR SANITY AND EVERYONE ELSE IN LINE...PLEASE DECIDE WHAT YOU AND EVERYONE IN YOUR PARTY WANTS BY CHECKING THEIR MENU ONLINE BEFORE GETTING IN YOUR CAR! When my car finally wound around the building twice to actually get within viewing distance of the order menu/speaker - I could hear the three cars ahead of me all asking people in their car (or on their cell phones with other friends and family) deciding what to order. This of course SEVERELY slowed up everyone else behind them waiting for them to make up their bloody mind and place their order. This business DOES have a copy of their menu online if you go to look them up so waiting until you drive right in front of the speaker to then twiddle your thumbs for several minutes before ordering is just foolish and disrespectful to everyone behind you. Now... as to what the business can do to improve service. When you wind around the building twice to get closer to the order kiosk, the line splits so that you go to 1 of 2 order speakers. It was obvious by the time that I pulled up to the two cars in front of me that although they have TWO order speakers, there is only ONE PERSON inside the building taking the orders...first at one speaker, then at the alternate second speaker. That is an absolute waste of customer time. They should have one person per speaker taking orders so that the line moves a little faster. In a nutshell I'm sure that this business will improve their operations and speed once the big hoopla of its 'newness' dies down. But frankly, their fried Chicken although good is truly not spectacularly better than Popeyes, Churches, or KFC for in-bone fried chicken. Yes, the spicing is a little better than some of the others, but the size of the chicken pieces and value for the money is about the same. Level of greasiness is also on par with their competitors which is to say - pretty bad. Like other people I truly do prefer in-bone fried Chicken. Unfortunately there's no chicken place that I'm aware of that uses a "pressure cooker fryer" like Chick-fil-A so that their fried Chicken is not so greasy. Like everyone else they're using a simple "drop basket fryer" system which just saturates the breading and chicken with grease during cooking. I know it's a matter of dollars and cents as pressure cooking fryers are extremely expensive, but one of these days I'd like to see a in-bone fried Chicken Place make that investment so that we can have truly great fried Chicken on the bone. Until then...like you my fellow Fried Chicken Lovers- I'll keep trying new places with my fingers crossed. read more

We ordered take out.Dark meat and white meat combos. The chicken was fresh tasting not over cooked and hot. Large pieces with delicious crust. They offered several sides. More than the usual places. I got the corn grits and my husband ordered coleslaw. Both sides were delicious. I will definitely order the corn grits again. The dessert was Apple turnovers .Very flaky and crisp. Delicious. They were a bit soft in the middle because it was take out . It happens a lot with take out. I think it was phyllo dough. They were the best turnovers I have gotten at any chicken place. If you like super spicy food, then you will like this place. However, I don't like real spicy food and classic fried chicken is not spicy. Therefore, the name of the business is wrong. I pulled apart a breast and it was red inside like it had cayenne pepper injected into it. I grew up in the South and Southern fried chicken is not spicy. It is like the original KFC when it first opened and the way my mother made it. She rolled it in a mixture of flour, salt and pepper, and fried it in lard. The Cajun Rice is not rice and very spicy. It is more like a pudding and I was expecting something like Dirty Rice. The coleslaw and rolls were good though. I have had their chicken from the store in Mansfield, and it was not as spicy. When food is so spicy that it burns my mouth, it's not good. I am used to old fashioned country food like Cracker Barrel used to be. read more
