I was told to try this place since I'm not from around here and didn't know what to grab for lunch. I was actually happy to support a Black-owned business, so I came in with a positive attitude. Unfortunately, the customer service left a lot to be desired. I greeted the cashier with a "Good morning" and received no response. That honestly should've been my cue to leave, but I decided to stay and order anyway. I ordered my food and never asked for a drink or a combo, but a drink was added to my order anyway. When I asked for a refund because I wasn't satisfied with part of my order, instead of removing the drink I never requested, I was still charged for it. What really bothered me was that I said "thank you" and even apologized, and again, I received no response. I understand everyone has bad days, but customer service matters. I came in willing to support the business and left feeling like my presence and money weren't appreciated. I ordered a three piece chicken with potato salad. The chicken was very flavorful, it was crispy and both the breading and the chicken itself were seasoned. It seems like it is battered with a wet batter, but that's just my assumption. The potato salad was perfect, the potatoes were cooked just right, so many restaurants undercook the potatoes. It was very flavorful. I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon and it was very busy, it seems like the food is cooked as you order so keep that in mjnd. I waited for my meal but it was worth it to me. I had the pleasure of eating at Chicken Shack during my summer road trip through Louisiana and Mississippi last year. The fried chicken was some of the best I've ever had, and the sweet potato pie was also top tier. Service was solid, and it's a no frills Southern-style cafe. The place was absolutely buzzing with activity during my visit as customers constantly streamed in and out to place and pick up their to go orders. This restaurant is a national treasure! Super friendly staff, everyone enjoyed their food and the prices were very affordable. Aside from the regular items be sure to check the board, they seem to add things depending on the day. This time I was able to get the meatloaf, I'm not sure if that's a regular item or not. Very good nonetheless. I have two pieces chicken with Cajun rice and collar green. The chicken was fried with the skin separated from the meat and crispy. I also like the chicken with good flavor. The side is not my favorite. The rice can be better. The green definite can improve. The other order is the shrimp popboys. Shrimp was coated and fried. A lot of shrimp but the size is small.
