My 8-year old daughter needed myofunctional therapy to correct a tongue thrust, which had caused a severe overbite, before we began orthodontics. The only reason I knew of myofunctional therapy is because I had it as a child (I also had a tongue thrust). Apparently most orthodontists simply install an applicance to try and "train" the patient's tongue to go to the correct spot. I would prefer to work with my child and retrain her muscles to swallow correctly. Just makes sense to me. Myofunctinal therapy is usually performed by a dental hygentist or a speech therapist. Andi is a speech therapist. I consulted with a couple other potential therapists for my daughter, but felt a speech therapist was much more qualified and competent. It is more expensive, but very worth it. In addition, by going to a licenced speech patholist, my daughter was diagnosed with a swallowing abnormality and our sessions may be covered by insurance (we haven't heard from the insurance company yet). Andrea did an excellent and thorough job of assessing my daughter's ability to swallow and the functionality of her tongue. Plus, she made it fun. Andrea has a wonderful, friendly personality and a great rapport with both me and my daughter. I was encouraged to participate in sessions so that I could ensure my daughter completed her weekly exercises properly. We are still in the midst of therapy, but I have already seen major improvements in my daughter's ability to swallow correctly. I have no doubt her therapy will be successful. read more

My experience with Mrs. Weinberg has been nothing short of extraordinary! She is knowledgeable and kind. She is empathetic and invests a great deal in the clients and parents too. I read through some of the reviews and am sad. Maybe there should be a vetting process to review? Someone with a very sad life can take down a professional with a remark that is as trivial as "exotic"? And mental conditions can absolutely impact pain (typically exacerbation). There are so many things that are painful and anxiety inducing. It would behoove us to really evaluate what's worth getting upset about and channeling energy in a productive area. My 5th grader had been in speech since she was little, but had plateaued in making progress with the school services. Fortunately, we found Andi. Wow, Miss Andi is Awesome! My 8 year old son just "graduated" from Speech Therapy after 6 years. We had use a therapist through our insurance then through school who helped but very slowly. Then we met Miss Andi who had helped my nephew tremendously so we were excited for a change. The cost of therapy is high but TOTALLY worth it! We wish we had met her much sooner, I'm sure the length it took to graduate would have been cut in at least half. My son truly loved working with Coach Andi as he called her. She is full of encouraging and positive energy and made learning fun! She was easy to communicate with and educated us to help us understand our son's learning process. Amazing process! Amazing results! My 12 y.o. Daughter has been battling with ongoing and lengthy orthodontic issues as a result of her tongue thrust. After years of searching for a specially trained therapist We were blessed to find Andrea from SDCC. They have been working together for the last 3 months and we ( parents, therapist and ortho) have been noticing and pleased with the ongoing results. Andrea Weinberg is an amazing speech therapist! She obviously loves children and makes many extra efforts to tailor her approach to your child's special needs. We used her services to assist us with an assessment of our daughter's speech abilities to support moving her to a better school with more autism and support services. Andrea was very professional and supportive and our daughter loved her from the first day. We had several appointments over a period of two months (over 5). Andrea provided excellent communication during in the assessment testing and shared areas of strengths and weaknesses that she was identifying during the process. Andrea also provided a site visit to our daughter's school, which produced an amazing amount of detail about our daughter's normal daily school experiences as well as helping to identifying specific social areas that she struggles with due to both her autism-related learning disabilities and her speech limitations. At the end of the process, Andrea provided an incredible report that gave an amazing level of detail on our daughter's strengths and weaknesses and the optimum type of support services she requires to assist with her speech development. Wonderful!! If you are looking for a speech therapist or specialized tutor, you have come to the right spot. Miss Andi started working with my 4 year old son who needed speech therapy. I instantly knew that we had hit the jack pot! She is first of all an amazing teacher, and I could see him understanding and making immediate progresshis first session. She has a way of making children feel very good about themselves. My 8 year old son was also having some trouble reading and Miss Andi helped me to get him tested for a learning disability and then specialized his tutoring according to his needs. We had tried several tutors and we were not making any progress. My son was having terrible anxiety. Once he started working with Miss Andi, he was comfortable and he gained confidence.
