It's hard to find a GREAT dentist I've learned. I'm from a small town and didn't know any better when I first started looking. After trying out the big box dentist with revolving dentist and sales pitches to buy more stuff ...and... the dentist where fillings were replaced a year later or I was in "the chair" for 4 hours! Yikes! I found this one through referral!!! Many people had been going for years and I see why. No sales pitches, great hygienists who take pride in their work (Sarah is amazing) and have been employed there for years and dentist who stick around and keep business. This is a top place because of the service and expertise. I've been to other places with fancy tools, state of the art gizmos and young hip staff, but I'm sold on this place, it's like being back home. I don't have to worry about the work they do or the quality when I hop out of the chair. Everything is efficient and well done. Give it a try and you won't be disappointed! read more

I've been going to this practice for 2 years, 4x/year because I like my teeth cleaned often and I wan happy to pay out of pocket for it. I lost my dental insurance but still wanted my teeth cleaned. After lengthy phone calls with 2 different office workers, I was told to come in for my cleaning and they'd "take a look". Even though they know my teeth and lack of issues, they refused to even do a cleaning without xrays and dentist consultation. I'm here with my money and you can't clean my teeth without adding on hundreds of dollars? "When are you getting insurance" is just insulting. "It's not our standard of care" is all I heard. Very rude staff. Insurance coordinator especially insensitive. I was given an appointment today to have a temporary partial made. I am missing a front tooth due to injury and they showed no care. They wanted $1700 up front and I wouldn't receive it until next week. My husband has been a patient there for over 20 years. No consideration given. The big girl in insurance and the rude receptionist should be furloughed. This office is going downhill fast. read more

I have severe anxiety from dental work that was done as a kid and thank you to Dr. Barker, Fawn, and James they helped keep a calm environment the whole time Dr. Barker's upbeat and positive attitude set the mood and when Fawn was doing my filling she explained what she was doing with each step which really calmed my nerves. Then my treatment ended with a cleaning from James who has such a fun personality and really distracted me from what was goin on with nice conversation and letting me listen to music! Been going to SouthBridge for the last 20 plus years. Broke a wisdom tooth several years ago. This happened the week my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer and started chemo same week. Needless to say other worries and things to take care so took a break from my visits to Southbridge. Went in for a checkup finally. I was very hesitant and they took excellent care of me with no pressure. Each member of the staff couldn't have been nicer or more attentive. It was time to take out my wisdom teeth at 51 YOA. My son went to the dentist and saw Dr. Hoover. She was really nice and helpful. The problem has come after the appointment. The office filed 2 claims with my insurance. When I called to question it, the office staff got defensive and stated they would NEVER do anything like that. I literally have both claim numbers and the insurance called to ask me if my son was seen twice in one day for the same exam and xrays. I dont file the claims with the insurance and if there was a mistake made ok. I am just trying to correct the issue, but it's a blame game for the office. This seems like a consistent issue now that I read the reviews. I will make sure to not return to this office at all. It is kind of a shame because the dentist wasnt bad nor was the experience but if I am not able to trust the financial aspect then that doesnt work. read more

My wife, myself and my oldest daughter were all patients of Dr Svoboda. My wife has a porcelain filling put in two years ago and had no problems with it. She visited every 6 months for checkups and cleanings and received nothing but rave reviews. In February my wife went in for her check up and mid cleaning the hygienist popped the porcelain filling out. She even apologized to my wife for the action. When we scheduled a time to have the filling redone we were told we would need to pay for this service. The office manager tried to convince us that fillings only last two-three years. We checked with three other dental practices and found this to be absolutely false! Google even suggests the following "On average, composite fillings tend to last 5 to 10 years, while amalgam fillings last from 10 to 15 years". She then tried to blame my wife saying that there may have been decay under the filling. THE OFFICE DID THE FILLING SO THAT WOULD BE POOR WORK ON THEIR END AGAIN! She then stated that my wife may have a teeth grinding issue that caused the filling to pop out. If that is the case who would we go to that would suggest this issue and a solution? THE DENTIST . AGAIN THEIR MISTAKE! Don't go to these folks, they either don't stand by their work or they don't do good work. Either way, find a different dentist! read more

The dentists here have been amazing. The hygienists are also terrific. The front office staff has the worst attitude of any organization I've ever had to deal with. When I called the scheduler to schedule everyone's annual check-up in my family the scheduler acted completely hassled that I tried to schedule appointments for my kids at the same time. She explained to me that it would be more simple for her if I could do it separately. If you are not five minutes early to your appointment, the person at the front desk shames you. If you are one minute late, they make you reschedule. Today they had to cancel my appointment last minute - if I had cancelled they would have charged me $50. I was at work and didn't see the emails and calls so when they finally got me in my car when I was driving there, they berated me for not checking my phone that morning. I asked to speak with a manager and she would not listen, talked over me, and was not apologetic in any way. I hope the dentists and hygienists see this so that they know they're being poorly represented by the front office staff. Never written a Yelp review but something had to be said here. Don't go to Southbridge. Nothing is worth being treated this way. read more

This is the first Yelp review I've ever felt the need to write. With how horrible my experience has been, accompanied with their high reveiws online that led me to choose South Bridge Dentist - the record should be set straight. Dr.Hoover and several dental hygienist have done a horrible job filling some cavities I had. In the last couple weeks I've been in South Bridge twice to have cavities filled. BOTH times they provided in insufficient job where I had to go back days to have the fillings repaired. The first time a filling broke the day I got it, as well as my bite was off. My next appointment, they filled the gaps between my teeth with so much filling I cannot floss and my bite's painfully off again! I have to go back again to have my second filling job repaired! I've been to several dentists in my day and had several different doctors provide quailty fillings. South Bridge Dentist provide the worst dental experience I've had TWICE in one month. Will never go back once I get my last bad filling fixed. read more

I was a patient of southbridge for over 20 years up until recently they were a great place to go however with that being said their new staff and office manager have little to no customer skills let alone an knowledge of how the insurance works. I went for a crown replacement which I'm still not 100 percent needed to be done because the crown in place seemed fine. I took the advice to get it replaced. I set up my appointment and started the process. After I set up the next appointment to have the tooth set in place I was told and also had the front office manager print a document stating the set date did not matter because the insurance would cover the procedure from the date I went in not the set day of the crown. Well that was a complete lie the the insurance did not cover it and it cost me 1000 bucks. Needless to say after over 7 attempts to speak to a dentist rather than the incompetent staff I never received a call I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND them to anyone . They do not know what they are doing and need to get their S--- together. read more

Disappointing to say the least! Our family has been going here for years. Southbridge Dentistry terminated their relationship with my insurance carrier and failed to inform me until after service was provided. I was not informed at check-in, no signs in the waiting room, no e-mail was sent... a letter was sent postmarked 1/5/2022 stating that date of termination was 12/15/2021 - 3 weeks after the fact! I called about it 1/14/2022 and was told I would get a call back - no return call. Spoke with a manager today who refused to make it right. As a result, I had to pay out of network cost for me and my 2 children. This was your mistake Southbridge Dentistry and you should have discounted the service to match my plans allowance for this instance since I was not made aware that you no longer accepted my insurance. Awful experience! I had a tooth extracted here and a bone graft done for a future implant. I asked for an honest quote of what the work might cost and I made my decision to move forward based on the price.I was terribly overcharged after the fact. I rely on honesty and did not find it here!! Also, as the dentist pulled my tooth his tool slipped and gouged my tongue! I was willing to let it slide but after the recent bill I feel I need to let people know how terrible my experience has been. I stopped going here in August of 2016. While I was happy with Dr Barker and Kissinger, I was not happy with the other dentists on the staff. Been coming here for years. My elderly Mother, children and I have seen many of the hygienists , office staff and Doctors. Never a problem... I recommend them. For the negative reviews, I think people just dislike coming to the dentist. Don't come often enough and by the time they do, they need major work. Take your preventative measures so that it doesn't get to that point of big $$$ repairs and painful surgical procedures. I love their hours. Svoboda for a crown and he is quick, fun, kind, sincere and knowledgable. -They are the team dentist for Denver Nuggets, University of Denver and Colorado Avalanche. -Nurses are friendly -You may end up receiving movie tickets if you happen to wait more than 15 min in the waiting area :) -if you need a root canal, they will refer you to the endodontists right across, not to one resides miles away from your house. But the front desk should be more knowledgeable about insurance plans and be more explanatory. read more

I spent three hours in the chair to get a routine filling, and I experienced ample pain after the numbing agent wore off. I was pricked a total of 21 times (I counted) because the procedure took so long. Megan, the office manager, called me the next day to talk. I learned Dr. Barker was NOT in the room during the botched procedure. I highly recommend this place if you want a dental hygienist to mess up your teeth and a dentist who "nervously paces outside the room." I went here because of their website, which stresses compassion and painless sedation dentistry, to have two teeth removed and gum disease treatment. While reviewing the pre-op consent forms, I noticed that they were about to remove the wrong tooth! A medical student myself, only my own knowledge of the correct numbering of human teeth prevented them from pulling the wrong one ... and when I alerted them to the mistake, the assistant said, "Good find. It's not like we can put them back in, if we pull the wrong one." Dr. Barker enlisted the services of an oral surgeon just down the hallway, to administer sedation. During the surgery, I partially woke up ... unable to move so much as a finger, yet able to feel and hear everything that was being done and also hear the conversations between them. I endured a HORRIFIC, nightmarish procedure. When I complained to Dr. Barker later, he laughed at me and called my story "entertaining." Then, when I declined to shake his hand, he asked a subordinate employee to falsify a statement that I had threatened him! Fortunately, I had a witness. DO NOT GO HERE!!! They will hurt you badly and then drop you like a hot potato if you complain. So much for "compassionate, pain-free dentistry." When I asked for my medical records to show to my new dentist, they gave me the bum's rush out their back doorway after charging me for my own records. Southbridge Family Dentistry and Doctor Barker and Doctor Kissinger as well have both cared for me over the years. After my appointment last night and again received such awesome care. I realized that I have been going to this dentist for over 18 years and have been treated so well. They are so good at explaining everything and making sure you don't experience pain and keeps discomfort to a minimum. Doctor Barker even hides the shot under his hand so you don't see it-- then it is at most a pinch because they use pre-numbing gel first. I wanted to share this as it is so rare and I consider it a privilege to have been cared for by these doctors. They are truly the class act and if you are looking for a new dentist you are the one that would gain by going to them for your care. read more

I have never done this before but I just don't think businesses should be able to get away with this. I have been going to Southbridge dentistry for 17 years. I just went in to find out that I need $10,000 worth of dental work. I explained to the dentist that I just opened up my own business and I can't afford to do all of this work right now and I need to make a plan to get it done. He told me to sign up for dental insurance, then come in and get the free cleaning with the dental insurance, then start the rest of the treatment in December. I looked into insurance, called them to make sure that insurance is good with them, and set up an appointment for a cleaning. When I show up for my cleaning the first thing the hygienist says to me is we are not going to have enough time for this appointment you will have to come back. I said why did you schedule me an appointment that you did not have enough time to do the work. She said well we have to do additional testing. I said is that covered under my insurance because I am supposed to be just doing the free cleaning and putting the rest of my money towards the other treatment that needs to be done. They go and check my insurance and come back to tell me that the insurance that I signed up for is out of network for them and will not cover my cleaning. I got upset and decided it was time to leave. I tried to explain the situation to the office manager on the way out who just stared at me and didn't say anything. I told them I have been coming there for 17 years and this is unacceptable. The next communication I receive is a letter from them telling me that they will no longer treat me and that I need to find a new dentist. I'm sorry but I don't feel that any business should be able to treat someone this way, especially not a customer who has been loyal for 17 years and has dumped over $50,000 into your business over the years. My advice if you are searching for a dentist is to find somewhere else that will actually care about you as a patient. Please pass this story along so that people know how Southbridge Dentistry treats their loyal patients. read more
