Holly Dental - Dr. Nielson Review I hate leaving bad reviews, but my experience at Holly Dental has been nothing short of a nightmare. Three weeks ago, I had two fillings done--one on the front bottom right and another in the back bottom right. As soon as the Novocaine wore off, I was in severe pain, which was completely unexpected since I've had many fillings in the past without any issues. For three days, I was popping ibuprofen every eight hours just to manage the pain. It was unbearable! I finally went back to Dr. Nielson, who told me I had a gum infection from the numbing shot and prescribed antibiotics. However, even after finishing the antibiotics, the pain persisted. Dr. Nielson then referred me to an endodontist to rule out the need for a root canal. Thankfully, all the tests came back negative, so no root canal was necessary. But here I am, still dealing with pain in my right ear and jaw, which sometimes radiates down my neck. To make matters worse, the area behind my right bottom teeth is swollen every morning. I've attached a picture taken just one week after the fillings, showing clear damage to my gums. I expected a routine dental procedure to be just that--routine. Instead, I've been left in constant discomfort and frustration. I can't recommend Holly Dental based on my experience. Save yourself the trouble and look elsewhere. read more

Sad! Since I've lived in Denver I've gone to Holly Dental and have had nothing but good experiences. Recently they have not accommodated me or my family for ANYTHING! We can't get an appointment ever for a simple teeth cleaning. I called today 3/23/21 @ 1155 hrs and spoke to the receptionist about me and my entire family going to another practice. She happily said ok and took my name. I asked her if she even wanted to know why and she stalled and said "ummmm I guess". Further reinforcing my decision to move on. It's really too bad that existing patients aren't cared for. What happened with your passion and caring? Did Covid ruin your business? Sad Sad Sad. My Wife Jes.H, left a great review 2 years ago. I have not had the pleasure of meeting "Dr" (they are not physicians people - and if you care to take that up with me argue it out with a Podiatrist) - Dr. Scholes actually said "we are not doctors, it's D.D.S so I have been very curious to know what he believes that first D stands for, but I digress... This practice breaks up in 2019 - I bet anyone their salary. They are overworked and underpaid. On top of that, Scholes - take a tip buddy, don't ever talk about your business with your patients. Because now I have you, and your staff at odds - only imagine what your partner would do if he would do if he discovered what you confided in me... Dr. Neilson is the best dentist I have ever had. I have always had great experiences at holly dental. My cleanings are always amazing and the staff is always super friendly and tries to fit me in when I need last minute appointments. I have a permanent retainer from an ortho on the western slope. This retainer has popped off a few times and DR. Neilson has not only fit me in promptly so that my teeth wouldn't move but has NEVER charged me for the visits. I always recommend holly dental to anyone is search of a new dental office. Dr. Neilson is such a nice guy and it shows that he loves his career with how he treats his patients and his staff. read more

Our family has gone to Holly Dental for years! They are knowledgable, caring, and gentle. Dr. Scholes is our primary dentist, although I have had the other dentists do work on my teeth and they are all equally wonderful, expert dentist. Additionally, Dr. Scholes is able to do everything for dental implants in-house. THIS IS RARE, so it is an amazing offering. Finally, front desk and support staff is patient, empathetic, and helpful. read more

i went to Holly Dental for almost 10 years. Over the last year or so....it is all about the money. They had a difficult time confirming my insurance...made me feel as though I was trying to cheat them......and appointment wasn't for 6 weeks away for a broken crown. Called Oldroyd Family Dentistry...they got me in, confirmed my insurance and I will have my new crown before Holly could have even seen me. Noticed how polite and caring the staff was compared to Holly where they act as though you are in the way. Holly also asked for money before they run it through insurance....Really enjoyed being treated like a patient at Oldroyd...not a dollar sign at Holly. Glad I made the change. read more

Very questionable billing practices. Last I was there they misdiagnosed a cracked tooth and started drilling to fill a "cavity" without numbing me first. Worst pain ever. Not sure what is going on with this practice, but our family moved to a new dentist. read more

Holly Dental and Dr. Manzo have been my primary dentist for at least the past two years. When I didn't have my own dental insurance, I enrolled in their membership program, which isn't insurance, but reduces the costs of regular visits. I think it was a great value. Whenever I visit, all of the staff is very friendly with smiles on their faces. As Dr. Manzo surely knows, my dental hygiene is not textbook but neither her nor any of the hygienists who have worked with me ever try to guilt me into improving my habits. The guilting tactic has been one of me least favorite things about visiting other dentists. Dr. Manzo's attention to detail cannot go unnoticed and it's rare for me not to dread a visit to the dentist. With the team and Holly Dental, I no longer have that feeling. read more

If you are looking for a great financial staff this is the place. If you are looking for a below average dentist and dental assistants this is the place. The dentists are average at best and the assistants are horrible. They are rushed, snotty, and about as unprofessional as they come. I have NEVER had a dental experience like the last two appointments I had at this office. The dental lab they use is fantastic at making crowns and color matching but these dentists and their assistants are average to below average n skill and service. I will never go back. I asked one dentist what I could do about my bottom teeth which are slightly crooked and she said, I swear "Dentures." VERY UNPROFESSIONAL ON TOP OF BEING LOW IN SKILLS. read more

I love this dental practice! Been a patient since around 1998 or so, and always get the best quality and friendly care from the Hygienists and the Dentists. Very rare do I need follow-up care here on the major things like crowns. But if I ever did, they got me in immediately and fixed the problem immediately. They really listen, and they explain what they are doing every step of the way. No one "likes" going to the dentist, but when you must, you can't go wrong here! In addition, their Billing Dept is very customer-focused. I have been very pleased with their service and explanations of charges, credits, etc. read more

I LOVE going to Holly Dental. I consistently walk out of my dentist appointments feeling magnitudes happier than when I walk in. How many people can say that? I mean, really. I have been seeing Dr. Nielson for about ten years. And I have lived in Chicago, IL for four of them. I make trips to back to Colorado a few times a year to see both my family... and my dentist. (This includes "emergencies," like a day-trip I made for a filling that had fallen out.) I did try finding another dentist. Once. And the experience was so negative that I immediately went back to Holly Dental, and now go 1,000 miles "out of my way" to stick with Dr. Nielson. A lot of these reviews talk about how he treats clients like real people. That is putting it mildly. I cannot talk highly enough about his interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence. And the same goes for his entire team - and colleagues. He goes out of his way to treat you like an individual and to honor your preferences. Don't want to be numbed for a small filling? Willing to tough it out? Not a problem! Hate the sensation of the polishing? You don't have to have it! Outright terrified to have your wisdom teeth pulled, to the point that you procrastinate for years? Don't fret! He'll refer you to a surgeon as understanding and empathetic as he is (who will proceed to do the procedure with laughing gas if your real fear is the IV.) These are small things. Except that they aren't. Because these are the exact sort of "small" things that make a lot of people dread the dentist - or fly 1,000 miles to go again. read more

I was a patient at Holly Dental for almost a decade. I had some positive and negative experiences, since none of the experiences were extreme I remained a loyal customer. However, I will now be switching dentists after this past incident. I was verbally misinformed of a lifetime guarantee (by four individuals at that office) regarding a very expensive product that I paid for fully out of pocket. It was completely broken in four years. I was informed on the phone to come in for a free replacement (yet again). When the dentist was giving me options I inquired if it mattered that the replacement was free, which is when he said he wasn't aware of the situation and would find someone to talk with me. I was then told very disrespectfully that no one would ever guarantee that product for life (by someone he had sent to talk with me). Had this product not been guaranteed for life (or so I was told) I wouldn't have purchased it at that price, since I was already paying for graduate tuition on a teaching salary. Nothing loses my business faster than dishonesty and disrespect. Unfortunately, I learned the hard way to always require statements that I base my decisions to be in writing too. read more

I have only been to Holly Dental on two occasions so far, but am very impressed. Dr. Scholes is friendly and thorough and I can tell he will take as much time as needed to answer questions, etc. He was kind and compassionate when I first went in with a bad abscessed tooth and then spent ample time working on my son when I took him in. I definitely don't get the idea that they are up selling or trying to recommend unnecessary procedures. I think after some searching we have finally found our new Dental office. read more

Holly dental provides the best dentistry around! I found this office while searching for a solution to a broken crown. I went to four different dentists One dentist told me that the tooth would have to be removed by an oral surgeon. One told me that he could replace the crown for $1600. I am so grateful that Dr. Nielson at Holly Dental actually cared enough to treat me as a person. He was able to replace the crown for a fraction of the cost and I have had no trouble with it! I have moved my entire family over to Holly. My son just had his wisdom teeth removed, quickly and painlessly. My 10 year has been terrified of dentists ever since a nightmare at Comfort Dental. The associates at Holly are so friendly and patient, she has now learned to like the dentist. My 6 year also gets regular cleanings at Holly Dental and he too, now has no problem with seeing the dentist. I highly recommend this office! read more

Dr. Manzo was very thorough and listened to my concerns during my initial exam and explained the work I needed done and why. She and her assistant made sure that I had a comfortable experience while having my fillings and crown done. They were able to get me scheduled quickly and complete all my work in one visit since I have a very hectic schedule. I love the staff at Holly Dental and plan on making it my dental home. read more

Absolutely amazing, caring team of professionals. I go to see Dr Scholes, and over the last seven years I have had a TON of dental work done, including numerous crowns and root canals. His work is impeccable, and his warm and caring personality makes you very comfortable. I have major anxiety when it comes to any dental procedures - growing up in Russia I have endured dentistry without anesthesia, which is the worst pain you can imagine. And the first people who have made me comfortable enough to let them into my mouth is the team at Holly Dental. And, again, the quality of the work receives highest praise!! read more

I would never recommend this dentist (Nielsen). He totally messed up a crown and I ended up with an injured jaw which required physical therapy. I had to go to another dentist to fix his work. read more
