Working as a property manager, I've had to deal with plumbers on a regular basis. After price gouging and general incompetence by other plumbers, I'd finally had enough and set out to find us a new plumber. I'd come across SouthBay Plumbing in the phonebook (lo-tech, I know!) and gave them a call to check on a suspected gas leak. Despite the property being outside the regular territory, Tommy arrived there shortly thereafter. He inspected the problem and completed the repair quickly and the pricing was more than fair. Only a couple weeks later, we were in need of a new water heater in one of our units and SouthBay Plumbing was the company we chose to use. Not only did their estimate beat the pricing from other companies, but they also beat out the likes of Home Depot, even with our volume discount (after figuring in the additional cost of hiring someone else to do the installation work). The fact that they were able to have the new water heater installed the following day was terrific. I wish that was the last time that we required their services, but after a major leak at the property, we needed emergency plumbing services. Unfortunately Tommy was already booked for a job and could not come so we made the mistake of hiring someone else to do the job. Without going into too much detail, that experience ended in utter frustration and outrage at the exorbitant rate they wanted to charge! I immediately called Tommy to come and complete the work that the other plumber had started. He was able to repair the leak and had our water service restored within hours! A+++! In the middle of the night, we heard a mysterious "glub glub" from our bathrooms. First thing in the morning, I tried calling the 2-3 plumbers we've used before and had to leave voicemail messages. I called South Bay at 9am and the office picked up right away. I explained my problem and she asked if 12-2 arrival time would be OK. I said yes! Tony arrived right on time and took a good look. He told me what he could do, I approved, and he did it. He explained ways we could get around this problem in the future, and he even fixed something in the master shower to improve the water flow; that wasn't even one of the problems I had mentioned. He did all this for a very reasonable price, and was finished by 2pm. And he was courteous and friendly while working quickly and efficiently. I still haven't heard back from the other plumbers! Murphy's Law is that all thins break on the weekend when no one is open =( I called 5 places before SouthBay, and they were the only ones who were both open AND available immediately for my water that was coming out everywhere! From the time of my call, the service provider was here in under 15 minutes- awesome! He was very polite, diagnosed the problem immediately, asked us if we wanted him to get started (yes!) and drove over to Home Depot to get the needed supplies. His quote was very reasonable and we didnt feel ripped off for a weekend call. The problem was completely fixed in a very reasonable amount of time, and we took his card to call back immediately in the future. Sloppy work. I had a leak in a upstair bathroom. South Bay plumber came, without doing careful examinations, he knocked the drywall open assuming it's a leak inside the wall. No leak there. It turned out that it was a simple leak in the water inlet to the toilet. It was fixed by tightening the connection. He charged me the cost of opening the drywall. Of course he couldn't fix the drywall. I had to spend twice as much to find someone to fix the drywall. Dont use them. You are better off fixing it yourself or find a trusted handyman. read more

I was very hopeful and happy with Tommy's work initially. I have done a bathroom renovation and even some roof work removing old solar water in total costing about $17,000+. You would think he would complete the job. Most recently, Tommy installed a water softener for me and did not connect the drainage properly. The drain now goes directly to the lawn and is killing the plants and is likely an environmental hazard. I contacted Tommy several times and there is no follow up for weeks. I also requested an invoice and have received none. Apparently they are too busy to follow up and the matter is getting serious. This is the third time working with Tommy and team where I'm having issues related to completion of service. I'll be filing appropriate claims with the BBB and City if this keeps up. There are many good reviews and I understand that but in my opinion, I have issues with south bay plumbers not completing the job they start . read more

My dad calls me up around noon on Saturday and tells me that he has blue water flowing up from his downstairs shower drain. So I grab some hand tools, a plunger and a toilet snake and head on over. When to get there, I can see that the blue soapy water from his washing machine is back flowing into his shower due to a clog in the main line. My three foot toilet snake is not going to do the trick. I get on Yelp and start dailing. After getting 6 or 7 answering machines of plumbing operations that are supposedly open on Saturday, I get a hold of a lady at Southbay Plumbers. She says she can get a tech out there in the next hour or so. My dad and I go to Peet's and grab a cup of coffee. Shortly after we get back, Vincent shows up in a truck. We showed Vincent where the various clean outs are located and he chose to use the one near the kitchen. He grabbed some gear and started rooting away. Soon, he tells us he thinks he's got the main unclogged so we run the washer on rinse for a few minutes, no problems, everything looks good. While Vincent goes to his truck to write up the bill, I tell my Dad what I think it will be for a Saturday service call. Vincent returns with a bill that's less than half of my estimate. We talk for a few minutes, I find out that Southbay is a small family operation that also does roofing. I'm going to have Vincent come out next week and give me an estimate to run a Pex / copper repipe at my house. The frequency with which I have to remove chunks of corrosion out of my shower head at home makes me think that the old galvanized pipes are about to blow. Most likely, Southbay Plumbers will be repiping my house In the next week or two. read more

Tommy came out to install a new gas line for our dryer after we purchased our home. He was was knowlegable, thorough and made sure the work was done right. His quote was reasonable even though it was an expensive project. He was right in that the line should be run from the main meter in order to keep the pressure right. But it was either a new gas line or a new dryer. The only reason I'm giving him 4 stars is because I have not had any plumbing work done by him. We had a major leaking mainline in our front yard, and decided to dig it up on a Saturday. We needed a plumber to put in a new mainline on very short notice (same day) so we wouldn't be without water. We called about 8 plumbers and got the run-around and no one could come out on a Saturday (despite the hours listed on their websites) - except Southbay! They pulled up as the sun was setting, said they could do it, and got to work right away! Within a couple hours we had a new copper mainline. Things got worked out and they agreed to come out on 10/16/14 to the condo. I was not there to witness the work due to my work schedule. I inspected the work the following day. Tail end of March we found unexpectedly pin hole leaks in the galvanized pipes underneath the house. We decided to repipe all the way to the street. Tommy/team have a nice disposition, and came on time. We found through the quote process, Tommy was willing to work with us to ensure there'd be hot water by the end of each day. He also cared enough about his quality that he has a minimum five year warranty. One business only quoted 90 days. We've been happy with the work that Tommy and his team provided. They also cleaned up after themselves. When there was a leak within a week, it was due to a wax ring leaking. He had it replaced. When the pipe underneath the vanity was leaking, he also came out to replace with a brand new part that his sub contractor had reinstalled. Bottom line, he was very quick in the repairs. I took off one star because he must really be busy. My parents are in need of a quote, and we haven't heard back from him. Otherwise, he and his team were great to work with! read more

If I could give them a 100 stars I would. As a new homeowner I was overwhelmed when we ran across a major plumbing problem in our house. In short my experience was AMAZING! Tommy and the team were fantastic. We started with moving a laundry room, which turned into a complete repipe, new water heater, adding a garbage disposal, repairing a busted sprinker line (no thanks to the stump grinder), and finally fixing a roof leak we discovered. Essentially anything we needed Tommy and the crew were able to handle! The overall job lasted a week, they were incredibly clean during and after each days work which I really appreciated. Another bonus was Tommy and the gang had a great time with my son who is 4 and quite the helper. They never lost patience or got aggrivated by his never ending questions. We had all of our bathroom drains clog up over the weekend. We called SouthBay Plumbers. They said they were currently on another job but would be available at 7 pm. Tommy arrived on time. He was very professional. We didn't have a drain clean out so he went up on our roof to snake out our drains. This was at night in the 50-degree cold. He didn't have a ladder so he backed up his truck to our garage and climbed up on his truck to get onto our roof. (He has the experience to know the tricks of the trade.) He not only snaked the bathroom drains but let the snake run out the full 100 feet, almost to the city drain, to make sure our line was clear. The cost was very reasonable. Just got a new water heater and I highly recommend Tommy and SouthBay Plumbers. I called yesterday and he arrived within a little more than hour later. He relit the pilot light, observed for a while and thought that might be the fix and left with no charge. Several hours later it was clear that the heater was not working again and he came back. Determined that we could either replace the thermostat apparatus or replace the entire water heater (which was 14 years old) We decided on replacement and he was back at 8am the next morning and was finished by 10am.
