Moomau Plumbing: Lifesavers When We Needed Them Most! Short story: Moomau Plumbing truly saved the day when our shower handle broke, leaving us without water for anything! Debbie squeezed us into their busy schedule, and Billy and Robert expertly tackled a tough repair, getting our water back on the same day. Their quick response, excellent communication, and skilled work were incredibly appreciated. Highly recommend! Long story: Our shower handle broke-off and we couldn't stop the water and there was no shut-off valve, so we had to turn off the main - so no water for anything - drinking, washing, showering, or flushing toilets. First thing in the morning, I asked co-workers for recommendations for plumbers. One friend immediately recommended Moomau Plumbing. I gave them a call, spoke with Debbie who gained an understanding of the situation. They were fully booked up for the next two days, but since we had no water Debbie would try to squeeze us in, as long as we could be available on 30 minutes notice. Debbie also had us send photos, which they were able to look at and figure out what is broken and what parts to bringing. True to their word, Billy came at the end of his long day, to help us out. The cartridge was broken and 20 years of hard water locked it in place. Billy did not have the kit for extracting broken cartridges with him, so he consulted with Robert over the phone. Robert is a master plumber with 40 years of experience. They came up with a plan, and Robert would stop by to help. Billy put in a lot of careful hard work to get the cartridge out without damaging the valve or the place where the cartridge goes. Robert stopped by, and Billy was able to install the cartridge and there were no leaks. Our old handle wasn't salvageable, so Billy explained how to buy a new fixture for about $40 at Home Depot and install it. Sounds like something we should be able to do on the weekend. In the meantime the water is back on, and fortunately we have a second bath with a shower, so we back to living what feels like luxurious life with running water. Years ago when I was in the Peace Corps, running water was a big deal, and so I am always grateful for it. I appreciate Debbie, Billy and Robert squeezing us in on a busy day. Leaks happen, it seems...and when they do, we always rely on Moomau Plumbing. This time, a leak appeared on some 25 year old PVC coming out of the ground, connected to a copper hose bib. Apparently not installed properly during the original construction. But Billy from Moomau Plumbing knew just how to make the proper connection, and completed the repair like new in no time. I have been a huge fan of Moomau Plumbing, but something has changed with this company. 4 months after I reported a leak in some work they did last year we still have no resolution. I was told parts were ordered, I've been told someone would be by to complete the repair. No show, no update, no responses to my request. Super disappointing, I really expected much better from these guys. They are awesome when they are in their game but something is very wrong. The work was fine installing a gas line to the dryer and fixing a copper water pipe leak. However, one of the two employees spent 45 min on the phone instead of helping the other person complete the job. The wasted time cost us a lot of money. We contacted the owner and explained our surprise at the large bill to be paid. He would not adjust the amount even when we explained that charging for two employees for the full time was not right. The work was fine but costly and the owner inflexible. Would not necessarily recommend. No estimate - just time and material. read more

"Wow neighbors, I just had a most successful and rewarding experience with Robert, President of Moomau Plumbing, and his team of professionals in resolving my difficult and unusual experience replacing a home toilet. The problem was that I had a Case wall mounted commercial style toilet installed in my home, a residential property, in West San Jose. Several plumbers would not even take a look at it when I told them that I wanted a new wall mounted toilet installed here in my home. All that changed when I got the name and number of Moomau Plumbing from Heath at Rubenstein Supply Co. [See my separate write-up] as one of the two best plumbers in the San Jose area. I immediately called Moomau and had the pleasure of talking to a very knowledgeable and friendly lady named Debbie. She was very pleasant and helpful in discussing the specifics of my situation. She agreed that they would pickup my new toilet from Rubenstein on the way to my property! A two person team arrived at the scheduled time and date, the lead plumber named Billy was most knowledgeable and was able to see the unique problems that he faced. Because of my situation, we had some discussions with Robert, the owner, to develop a specific plan of action. Work was scheduled to be done in the crawl space in the next couple of days so that a specialist could be scheduled to do the crawl space work. Sorry, my story is getting too long, lol! My neighbors swear by Moomau Plumbing. I fortunately haven't needed a plumber for several years, but luck finally caught up with me when a shower temperature control valve and toilet both started acting up. I gave Moomau a call and sent them pictures of the temperature control knob, along with the brand name. Billy showed up when promised/expected and had the needed parts with him. He was very professional and efficient and got the work done quickly. I have used Moomau three times in the last year and a half. Each time they provided excellent service and were always on time. Billy is an excellent plumber and provides service above and beyond that is required. He also gives great advice about the problem and how to avoid it in the future. I had them install a toilet and when they unpacked the toilet there was a hairline crack in the tank. They went back to the supplier and returned with a new toilet. They did not charge me for the second trip because Billy said he should have seen it when he inspected the toilet. read more

Great Plumbers, wonderful people, knowledgeable at working on an old house and pipes. Rob, Billy and Jose first came Christmas eve and fixed really bad leaky faucets. I'm remiss for not thanking and posting sooner. Last week, Diego, Daniel, and Jose snaked main water lines and now they flow free. It was a dirty nasty job. The grease and grime in the pipes were unbelievable. I believe they used approximately 75 feet of "snake" to reach the clog. We are grateful to have met Rob and his crew. I had a tenant that reported a sporadic leak under the kitchen sink, and broken sprinkler head. As the house was in escrow, I needs to complete any repair work quickly. I spoke with Stephanie at Moomau Plumbing and she was very helpful, efficient and was able to schedule an appointment a few days later. On 7/16, Billy arrived at the home and texted me to let me know he couldn't access the home. A quick call to the tenant, who was home and available, indicated that they didn't hear a doorbell or knock. No worries, access problem solved. Billy went in.....and that's it.......... (The tenant said the plumber came in and said something about need a part replaced, but that he didn't have it. No mention of returning, only that they would get in touch with me.) I didn't hear from Moomau about what they found, no estimate, no request to proceed with work, nothing. On 7/31, I received an email from Stephanie, to let me know that Billy was ready to schedule time to install "the part". I informed her that I hadn't received any communication or estimate of expected repairs, nor had I authorized any work. In fact, when I didn't hear back from Moomau, I scheduled another plumber who was able to come out and complete a same day fix (for $75!!). Additionally, I informed her that I was no longer the owner as the house closed escrow a few weeks after Moomau's visit. On 8/13, I received an invoice for $130, for a service call. Reluctantly, I paid the invoice because I appreciate small businesses and we should pay for services rendered. But the lack of follow through and professionalism was disappointing. Like other reviews say, Moomau is my go to plumbing company and they are fantastic, honest and reliable. I've had them out three times in the past 6 months (bad luck on my part). The first time was a leak in the pipe to my water heater. They squeezed me in that day since it was a pretty big disaster in my basement, and did a great job fixing it at a reasonable rate. The next time was when I was out of town and I learned from my neighbor that my water main line had cracked and I had a huge bubble of water under my front lawn. Moomau was able to come out, quote and give me all the options over the phone. Debbie was great, making sure I fully understood my options and did not pressure me into the more expensive fix. This allowed me to continue my vacation, and have the line replaced. I returned about halfway through the project, and was pleased to see that they did very clean work. They took care to not damage any plants and even the lawn that they had to remove was placed back with such care that it has all grown back. You cannot tell there was a huge trench in my lawn at one point! The last time I had to call them was just a clogged drain and a small leak outside. Easy and affordable to fix. These are great people and I will continue to use them if I have more plumbing needs....but let's hope that does not happen! read more

This company did a great job with the plumbing job: Extended plumbing line under the house to move the washer over about 8 feet in the garage and also pulled the water line under the house from the kitchen sink to the back of the new refrigerator I bought. We have used this company in the past and I feel like they are very reliable and do good work. Robert told me that if anything were to go wrong with his plumbing install, he would come back and fix it immediately, although he and I are not expecting any problems with this. Robert also showed me how to repair a few simple things on my own so I don't have to call a plumber out to fix something I could probably do myself.(I had requested this from him and he was more than happy to educate me). My only one small complaint is that Robert took a while to get back to me with an estimate and I had to remind his billing secretary about that. She got after him they squeezed my job in quickly. I am not too irritated about the delay because with the pandemic, all of these companies are absolutely swamped right now with everyone being home and wanting work done. I would still recommend this company to anyone who needs plumbing work. read more

We worked with Moomau to install the necessary plumbing for a water softener. Robert came out to do the quote and was very personable and easy to talk to, plus he was entertaining to my 3 and 5 year old! On the day of the job, one main plumber was here and Robert came and went with others. At the end of the day they were almost done so he brought all hands on deck to finish the job by 6pm. Robert is a great guy and he knows his stuff. He is worth every dollar he charges. Robert did the following work for us: Changed faulty gate valves on our "over-complicated" water system. Replaced our hot water heater from hell with a great tankless unit. (Which I might add works awesome). Redid our plumbing in our new bathroom. This was a huge job that required a lot of expertise. Spoke with Debbie the morning when my water heater broke. I explained the situation that I have a 3 year old that loves her bath time and I didn't want to disrupt that. Very unprofessional. Called them to schedule an estimate for a repipe of my house based on the stellar reviews on Nextdoor. The lady I spoke with was very nice. She took my information and we scheduled at time for the estimate. She let me know that they schedule estimates for 2 hour windows since they don't know on a given day what other issues may pop up. I was OK with that and took the time off work to be home. My window was scheduled for between 4 pm and 6 pm. At 5:55 pm, I'm starting to wonder what is up. Then I see a truck pull up in front of my neighbor's house. a guy in shorts and a tank top gets out and rings the doorbell. Nobody answers. Then he walks back to his truck and my cell phone rings. They had the wrong address. OK, people make mistakes, so as I was talking to him, I go out on the porch and wave to him. He comes over and comes in the house. He introduced himself, but had no business card or notepad. He was also covered head-to-toe in dirt. He must have just crawled out from under someone's house. OK, I get it, he's probably doing most of the work himself, but you would think that he would have said something like, "Sorry I'm such a mess, I just came from a job." Anyway, we walk around and talk about all of the things that need to be addressed in the repipe, but he has nothing to take notes on. In the back of my mind, I'm thinking that he really doesn't want the job if he's not taking notes. After about 15 minutes, he leaves and says they will send a quote. That was back in the first week of June 2017. I have yet to hear anything from them. I took 2 hours of PTO to meet them and they didn't have the courtesy to follow through. When I called they were scheduled out for the next two weeks, but they gave me information on what to ask and what to look out for when calling other plumbers. She even gave me the name and number of one. After calling these other plumbers who had no interest in a small job or charged a fortune, I decided to wait it out and go with Moomau. As with some other reviewers, I was disappointed with Moomau both professionally and w/workmanship. I read through all of the great ratings and was happy to find and support a very local business. I had a leak from an upstairs bathroom that filtered through to the bottom bath. It took them about a week to find from where the leak originated; they'd come back almost each day in between other projects. In fact, Robert brought Billy with him on a few of those occasions. So as it turns out, I was paying for two people to find the leak for this period of time. I made the mistake of telling them that my insurance would be paying for it and they took advantage of my trust. The total cost was over four figures for labor plus an $18 part. And guess what? The pipe continued to leak. Because this accelerated my plans to remodel, out of curiosity I asked Moomau to come back to quote on replacing the still leaking pipe into a 2 inch pipe. When I told Robert the pipe was still leaking, he didn't say one word, literally. He didn't say 'you should have called us back' or 'oh no that's not good'. Not only that, he stepped-up onto the top of my toilet to look at the pipe area without taking off his shoes. I can't believe any of this was unintended. I paid another local plumber for the remodel of two bathrooms and found another local plumber that I recommended to a neighbor (and that they used and were happy with). Bottom line is that Moomau lost my trust and additional business not only from me but my immediate neighbors. read more

After hearing very positive reviews on NextDoor and here on Yelp, I called Moomau Plumbing to help me with a bunch of issues I had with plumbing. First off, I like the fact that they didn't ask me; "Do you mind if I ask you who did your previous plumbing work?" I had Mike Council Plumbing come in and do an estimate and that's the first thing they asked me after doing their inspection. After their $18,700 estimate, I told Mike Council not to let the door hit them on the way out. I made an appointment with Debbie who works with Robert Moomau and was pleasantly surprised to get a knock on my door by Robert himself a few days later. He was very personable, and we went over all my plumbing concerns. After putting on his gear, he went under the house to perform an assessment. Since it was later in the day, he would get back to me over email with an estimate. A few days later I get 3 estimates in 1 which I really appreciated. They included the following: 1. What needs to be taken care of immediately 2. What should be taken care of eventually (but not urgent now) 3. Price to install a Water Softener I thought the price was very reasonable and decided to go with all 3. Several days later, Robert came out with a small crew and went to work. Robert and crew worked 2 days to clear up all my plumbing issues and I couldn't be more happier with the level of service and speed to which they came in and executed their services. You always wonder when workers take too much time to complete tasks, but Robert got in completed the work and moved on. I liked that he had a contact for me to use for extra electrical work on the water softener and very happy and willing to recommend to anyone. Debbie who manages the office is very sincere and genuine. I like that both Debbie and Robert grew up in this area and live where they work. I would always rather support local business. The Moomau team was helpful, personable, prompt, clean, and very professional. Debbie was always a delight to speak to. When they came out to install a two-way cleanout at my house, they discovered that a one-way cleanout had already been installed below the concrete, right where they were digging. They explained to me my options - bring the existing cleanout up to grade, or install a new two-way cleanout - as well as the pros and cons of each, allowing me to make the final choice. Awhile later, a problem arose with the same shower valves, they came and fixed it. Awhile later, something else arose, they came out, said they would order parts and call us when it's in... never heard from them again. Maybe our job was too small? I don't know. The lady on the phone makes me tell her all my details like my first name last name address and all the details of the job and finally says "oh, we are in the middle of a huge project and we will not be able to come at east for a week. it is okay if you are bust, but tell me before you ask me what the job is and then judge it is too small for you to work on. This company over charge me $250 for installation new water heater. Original, the technician told me it may take 5 hours for installation and charge includes water heater is around $1200. $650 for the new water heater and $550 for the labor - 5 hours job. The technician spent around two hours for Sheetrock repair - one hour to go back office to get the Sheetrock. The technician installed the new water heater spent around 2 hours for removing old one and installed the new one. This Sheetrock repair cost me $80 and this price is fair. But I cannot put the new paint on the Sheetrock - it's behind the new water heater.. This is bad. The technician charged me $550 for ~2 hours installation and $650 for the new water heater. The labor is too expensive. I checked Lowe's and they said only $300 for water heater installation. This company Moomau Plumbing overcharged me labor around $250. read more

I received three quotes, and liked Robert the best as he walked through and checked out what needed to be done and actually took the time to explain what the process. For me that was refreshing because the others would come in and they were not very personable. As a business owner myself I expect a lot and Moomau met my expectations.
