Adj: Nicely "new" library that serves the community well and is a treat on a hot summer's day We were visiting the Reno area and decided to make a stop here as our kids just love to visit other libraries. This library reminds me of so many in Elk Grove and other bedroom communities across NorCal that are very kids-and family-friendly and nicely designed for everyone. This library has been around since the early 2000s but they've really kept it nice. From the colorful palette in the children's area, to the soft warm tones in the grown up sections, all parts of this library is comfortable and cozy to hang out in. Kids section is tucked in and filled with shorter shelves perfect for them, and there's a couch/lounging area for parents to sit with kids and read together. Very colorful with lots of cute decors all throughout on shelves and walls. Adults section have lots of reference and non-fiction as well as fiction books, cds's, and dvd's. There's also a small "gallery" cove area with original art by local artists that resembles a lot like the cubism by Picasso. Nice. Several meeting and study rooms are available to reserve for quiet reading and studying. This library looks out to nice landscaping on all sides and esp. into the South Valleys Regional Park on one side which is full of green fields, very pretty. Overall, this is a lovely library and I'm glad we had the opportunity to discover and visit this Washoe County library in Reno. read more

The librarians all are always nice and helpful. The place is quite clean and there is a good selection of children's books.

I came here to vote in person at the South Valleys Library. I had my grandchildren with me so it was perfect to go into the children's section of the library after voting. The people are wonderful and friendly. The facility is clean, bright, well organized and comfortable. read more

Went here to check out a new library and they invited my toddler and I in for story time and we had a great time! The employee who checked us in was kind. I feel at such peace coming to the library. Get yourself a library card and come browse the huge selection. I love walking in and heading straight to the new arrivals section. Always something fun to find. Also, if they don't have what you are looking for in house, but they do at another library it's super simple to place a hold and the book that will then be delivered to this library to be picked up by you (you have 10 days). I use this feature online constantly and it's the absolute best. I hope I get to read all the books someday. I had to print some tickets last month and staff helped me understand how to use the computer, pay the cheap amount, and actually get the printouts. Great kid area. Personally I never read on the kindle (but online they do have a version called Libby you can access and rent from as well!) and I don't to audiobooks (they also have some) I just love a good old fashioned hand held paperback or hardback book and I hope you also Enjoy your local libraries! read more

Great branch library. The staff is always nice, and there are tons of thoughtful touches throughout the facility. It's a pleasant environment. But holy cow is the furniture uncomfortable! It's borderline unbearable. It makes me think they're trying to get people to leave sooner. Ha. And despite how groovy the architecture is, the architect majorly failed on the west elevation. The afternoon sun comes blasting in and you can't sit at those tables or you'll BAKE. read more

Nice, clean quiet library. The only issue is if you're looking for a quiet library to work at, be mindful of when you go. I was there when there was some meeting in one of the meeting rooms and it was so crowded and noisy. After the meeting, everyone just comes out and stands around and sits at all the tables talking loudly. Not a huge deal, but something to keep in mind if you're looking for a quiet library. read more

I hadn't been to this library since I was a little girl. A friend and I took our daughters recently for story time and both times we went it was great! The first time was a bit rough because it was early voting and the parking lot was an absolute disaster - even with the signs stating library parking only, people still parked there to stand in line to vote. Other than that, it was a good experience. The staff were amazing with the kids and made sure everyone was comfortable and enjoying themselves. The books and songs they chose were perfect for the age group. On our second trip they had a fun turkey making craft after the story time which all of the kid's had a blast doing. read more

I went to this library for the first time ever yesterday, Wednesday, September 13. I have nothing but good things to say (except for two negative, but minor things at the end...so I lied, lol!). This is the only Washoe County Library in south, southwest, or southeast Reno, which is a big area, so it is essential to the community. The library was cozy and very pleasant to be in. It was newer, brightly lit, with clean restrooms and plenty of stalls. Even a water bottle filler. Wifi was fast, and there were tons of places to sit with a laptop, many having an electric receptacle (plug/outlet) in case your battery drains fast, like mine does. There were even a few large-size chairs. I noticed a self-checkout station, and small study rooms if you want a quieter experience, although it was quiet overall when I went from 3-5 PM. There were patrons there, but not overwhelmingly so. There were plenty of places to sit and work or read. I ended up sitting in the "Fireside Room" and being mesmerized by a large-screen TV with kittens set free in various rooms or outdoor enclosures to play, lol. It was meant for kids, but I couldn't stop watching. Kittens were doing everything kittens do, like running stalking, hiding, exploring, etc. Tons of energy. Back to reality: the parking lot was spacious with plenty of parking when I went. There was also an outdoor walking area for kids that was pesticide free and with plenty of trinkets spread all over the place, liked painted rocks. This is accessible from th children's area. There was also a fenced-in outside siting area accessible only from within the library with picnic tables. And there were a ton of displays, from painted miniature trolls to a banned and challenged books display. The staff was also very friendly, easily available, and professional, saying good-bye to every patron as they left. The only (minor) negative were the hours: 10-6 on most wekedays (Wednesdays 10-7), with 10-5 weekends. (Note: the hours posted in the pictures on Yelp are outdated.) Many of the libraries I have been to in the Bay Area of California were open to 8 or even 9 PM. The weekend hours are good though, especially Sundays. The one other negative was turning left from Whites Creek Rd. (where you enter/exit the library from) to Wedge Pkwy. I left at around 5 PM, and traffic on Wedge was non-stop. The Wedge traffic had no stop sign to abide by, but Whites Creek Rd. did. Couple that with cars turning left on Wedge to the library, and I ended up waiting three minutes to finally be able to make a turn. Good thing the cars queueing up behind me were patient. A four way-stop or a turn signal is recommended. I might end up suggesting this to the City of Reno. The other thing is as you approach Wedge, there is an upslope on the right, obscuring the visibility of traffic on Wedge. I realize the library does not control any of this, but it is still something to be aware of. Nevertheless, this is a great library. The next time I come I will get my library card too! read more

Like all Washoe county libraries, this one is great! My home library is in NW Reno so this one is definitely more compressed when it comes to layout, but they do it in a cozy kind of way. The windows and natural light are super nice. The children's section is small but very welcoming with cute furniture and tables. Staff are all very warm and welcoming. read more

12/3/21 I came to check out the library. But ended up walking the entire park. Quality/Quantity - Nice newly built and maintained facilities. Atmosphere - Pretty cool place Reno Ice Arena 5 baseball fields, 1 of which is regulation 3 soccer fields Library Disc Golf Course Picnic areas Off leash dog park Children's playground Restrooms - at the library and the other side of the park. I am sure they would open the ones at the Little League if they were playing (by permit only) Service - Librarians were great. They let my daughter make free buttons (available in pin or magnet) while I was checking the place out. Price - Free Owner Suggestion - Thanks for all you do. read more

God, I absolutely love this library. It's come a very long way from when I was a kid and used to come for story time. Which to its credit- is still going! Highly recommend this to any families with kiddos, they'll make some great memories here and the children have their own section of the whole library! Age appropriate games, toys, books, activities all at your disposal. Now as an adult, some things I've come to appreciate is how modern the library has become. The self check out, the self drop off. Super fast and easy. I mean, Target check out isn't even that cool. They're very lax with return and checkout policies- take as many books as you can keep track of, and your books will automatically renew if you don't bring them back on their due date up to 3 times! NO OVERDUE FEES!!! Unless you lose a book. Not to mention the Teenager study area. 2+ private rooms for isolated study or tutoring. A constant rotation of new books coming in! Free computer usage. Puzzle table. And SO many good reading nook areas to really dive in to your book. Just trust me and sign up for a library card, this place will prove to you that libraries are NOT a thing of the past. read more

Nicely kept and clean library which is located adjacent to a sports park. It's not huge but has a good selection of books, magazines, CD's and DVD's (yes, I still borrow CDs occasionally!) There are many stations to self check out, all you need is your library card. Even if you have a small fine, you can still check out and pay at a later date. There are some study rooms and a children's room, typical of most libraries. They often have book and other media sales, last time there was a collection of books for around a $1 or so. If you go to the library, this is a pleasant one. read more

I am visiting family out here over the winter and can walk to this wonderful library from my apartment. I was able to easily get a library card and found plenty of Bosch and Reacher books. Online also available. Nice puzzles to borrow or do in library. Also have special movie sessions on Saturdays about themes, such as Hitchcock or Film Noir. Staff very friendly. I also worked remotely here quite often and found suitable places with desks and relative quiet. This is a great amenity for the local community. Highly recommend it. read more

Located right off of Wedge Parkway in South Reno, it is within walking distance of my abode. My routine: search the Washoe County Library site for the book that I want, place it on hold and pick it up when it's available. Very easy. Parking is accessible most days. The lot is shared with socceer moms and ads and little league moms and dads. Can get pretty busy so time your trips to weekdays when everyone is still in school. They have a good selection of books and dvds. I don't spend too much time browsing. Love the web feature so I can get in and out quickly. Nice modern asthetics. People there are helpful. Good place to study or just read. read more

This library always has new selections on hand and it is a great place to come see rotating art and chill with a book. Great children's library also and they give kids prizes for reading during the summer. The staff are always friendly and willing to help you find items you desire to read. They also have a good selection of movies and CDs to borrow. read more

I basically live at this library! I work in the area so I am constantly dropped off or picking up books. Total bookworm! There are quite a few perks about this library. #1 Even if they don't have a book, if it is at a library in their system they can have it sent to this library for you. No more traveling around to several libraries to get all the books you are desperate to read #2 It's large enough to have a decent amount of books but not large enough to feel overwhelming. #3 The layout makes it quick and easy to find what you are looking for. #4 The librarians. These are not your grumpy old librarians from the elementary school you attending. They always have a smile for you, a suggest for a good book, and are helpful getting those books checked out. This is one of the times I really enjoy the person to person contact and dialogue. These ladies have had some great recommendations and are even polite when I'm dealing with paying fines. #5 Study rooms. They are almost always open so you can have a little privacy but you really do need to keep your voice down because the walls don't block out a lot of noise. On that note, it is 25 cents a day PER BOOK for a late fee. Trust me, I found that out the hard way! Also, be prompt with picking up your books from hold. They charge a fee for that as well. I believe it's $1.00. Overall, I love that this library is close to where I work so it is always convenient to pick up or drop off books. read more

It's the funky yellow building easily seen in the south end of Reno. The parking is pretty easy. The entrance is an automated sliding glass door with a foyer that displays books and flyers following a theme, usually the current hoiday. For example, this time they are showing books on Ireland in honor of the upcoming St. Patrick's day. My daughter and I came by to pick up a book she had put on hold. They organize their holds by the first two letters of the last name on the account, followed by the last 4 digits of the library card number. While they offer a fairly easy to use self-checkout, I like going to the front desk area and using one of the librarians. I like the person to person contact. The CardStar app on my iPhone allows me to store my library id card, which the librarian can then scan to bring up my account. This way, I don't have to fatten my wallet or load my key ring with yet another membership card. Our librarian was cheerful and helpful, kindly reminding us when the book was due and bidding us a good rest of the day. The library offers so much to the community such as books, dvd's, references, e-books, cultural events and performing arts series, and even tax help. There are separate spaces for kids, teens, and adults. They also display local art, usually by students from one of the area schools. Periodically, they will offer books for free or sale for minimum cost, and the proceeds go to help maintaining the library. If you have little ones, I highly recommend checking out their story time, usually followed by a fun craft time related to the stories shared. A great place to enjoy books and give your little ones the joy of reading! read more

Love it here! Took the kiddos in for story time & the guy reading was also super helpful after and so great with all the kids. They also have some great events that I'll look forward to attending with the kids. I was happy with their readily available selection, and yet happier to discover how quickly we could get additional reading material ordered and saved with everything being online now. All around, great helpful people, fun events, and nice selection of books/resources. Super happy we found it. read more
