    "Miniature Painting" collection on display

I went to this library for the first time ever yesterday, Wednesday, September 13. I have nothing but good things to say (except for two negative, but minor things at the end...so I lied, lol!). This is the only Washoe County Library in south, southwest, or southeast Reno, which is a big area, so it is essential to the community. The library was cozy and very pleasant to be in. It was newer, brightly lit, with clean restrooms and plenty of stalls. Even a water bottle filler. Wifi was fast, and there were tons of places to sit with a laptop, many having an electric receptacle (plug/outlet) in case your battery drains fast, like mine does. There were even a few large-size chairs. I noticed a self-checkout station, and small study rooms if you want a quieter experience, although it was quiet overall when I went from 3-5 PM. There were patrons there, but not overwhelmingly so. There were plenty of places to sit and work or read. I ended up sitting in the "Fireside Room" and being mesmerized by a large-screen TV with kittens set free in various rooms or outdoor enclosures to play, lol. It was meant for kids, but I couldn't stop watching. Kittens were doing everything kittens do, like running stalking, hiding, exploring, etc. Tons of energy. Back to reality: the parking lot was spacious with plenty of parking when I went. There was also an outdoor walking area for kids that was pesticide free and with plenty of trinkets spread all over the place, liked painted rocks. This is accessible from th children's area. There was also a fenced-in outside siting area accessible only from within the library with picnic tables. And there were a ton of displays, from painted miniature trolls to a banned and challenged books display. The staff was also very friendly, easily available, and professional, saying good-bye to every patron as they left. The only (minor) negative were the hours: 10-6 on most wekedays (Wednesdays 10-7), with 10-5 weekends. (Note: the hours posted in the pictures on Yelp are outdated.) Many of the libraries I have been to in the Bay Area of California were open to 8 or even 9 PM. The weekend hours are good though, especially Sundays. The one other negative was turning left from Whites Creek Rd. (where you enter/exit the library from) to Wedge Pkwy. I left at around 5 PM, and traffic on Wedge was non-stop. The Wedge traffic had no stop sign to abide by, but Whites Creek Rd. did. Couple that with cars turning left on Wedge to the library, and I ended up waiting three minutes to finally be able to make a turn. Good thing the cars queueing up behind me were patient. A four way-stop or a turn signal is recommended. I might end up suggesting this to the City of Reno. The other thing is as you approach Wedge, there is an upslope on the right, obscuring the visibility of traffic on Wedge. I realize the library does not control any of this, but it is still something to be aware of. Nevertheless, this is a great library. The next time I come I will get my library card too!

12/3/21 I came to check out the library. But ended up walking the entire park. Quality/Quantity - Nice newly built and maintained facilities. Atmosphere - Pretty cool place Reno Ice Arena 5 baseball fields, 1 of which is regulation 3 soccer fields Library Disc Golf Course Picnic areas Off leash dog park Children's playground Restrooms - at the library and the other side of the park. I am sure they would open the ones at the Little League if they were playing (by permit only) Service - Librarians were great. They let my daughter make free buttons (available in pin or magnet) while I was checking the place out. Price - Free Owner Suggestion - Thanks for all you do.

Nicely kept and clean library which is located adjacent to a sports park. It's not huge but has a good selection of books, magazines, CD's and DVD's (yes, I still borrow CDs occasionally!) There are many stations to self check out, all you need is your library card. Even if you have a small fine, you can still check out and pay at a later date. There are some study rooms and a children's room, typical of most libraries. They often have book and other media sales, last time there was a collection of books for around a $1 or so. If you go to the library, this is a pleasant one.

I thought for sure I would have to order this book off of Amazon, but I found it at the library!

This library always has new selections on hand and it is a great place to come see rotating art and chill with a book. Great children's library also and they give kids prizes for reading during the summer. The staff are always friendly and willing to help you find items you desire to read. They also have a good selection of movies and CDs to borrow.

Gorgeous day at the little yellow library.

I basically live at this library! I work in the area so I am constantly dropped off or picking up books. Total bookworm! There are quite a few perks about this library. #1 Even if they don't have a book, if it is at a library in their system they can have it sent to this library for you. No more traveling around to several libraries to get all the books you are desperate to read #2 It's large enough to have a decent amount of books but not large enough to feel overwhelming. #3 The layout makes it quick and easy to find what you are looking for. #4 The librarians. These are not your grumpy old librarians from the elementary school you attending. They always have a smile for you, a suggest for a good book, and are helpful getting those books checked out. This is one of the times I really enjoy the person to person contact and dialogue. These ladies have had some great recommendations and are even polite when I'm dealing with paying fines. #5 Study rooms. They are almost always open so you can have a little privacy but you really do need to keep your voice down because the walls don't block out a lot of noise. On that note, it is 25 cents a day PER BOOK for a late fee. Trust me, I found that out the hard way! Also, be prompt with picking up your books from hold. They charge a fee for that as well. I believe it's $1.00. Overall, I love that this library is close to where I work so it is always convenient to pick up or drop off books.

It took 3 minutes for me to find the book, check it out and get back into my car. HOW COOL IS THAT!? Technology has really brought libraries to the future.

We went to a circle time here, and a bilingual family game night. I also came to their art class. Over the summer they offered a free animal show. I'm blown away of how much is going on here. I highly recommend you should run, not walk to this library. I'm am so happy it is close by and it's open every day, even Sundays. Everyone I have met is super helpful. No complaints. Shout out to Emily! She is my favorite librarian. These are the best parts of community we must foster and take care of. They also don't penalize you for late fees and have no limit for checking out. There is a books sale area and a section that gives away food in the front. People bring things in and others take what they need. I absolutely love that. We need this more! The library did not pass their WC -1 on election day. Unfortunately our libraries will be reducing resources due to budget cuts. I will be emailing my Washoe county commission office about this. I encourage you to do the same.

Quality/Quantity - Nice discovery. Can't tell you the last time we visited this mall…read more But finding this HUGE library was a plus. Gave me something to do; to explore and Yelp while my wife shopped next door at the Nevada Marketplace. Also a cool find - Memory kits and blood pressure kits (not for me, but useful for my guests if/when they visit). Ambiance - HUGE location!! Not too busy, but definitely had some activity in all parts of the library. From the computers, to the kids area, private rooms, group meetings, etc. Open 6 days a week from 10am to 4pm, 6pm or 7pm. Closed Sundays. See website for specific hours. Cut and pasted from their website: "Sierra View Library offers: Seating for collaborative work or individual pursuits with personal devices. Free Wi-Fi and wireless printing. A youth collection and area with plenty of space for families to gather, play with games and LEGO, enjoy story times, or attend a variety of programs like Crafternoon. A dedicated space for teens to gather and work on computers in the heart of the young adult materials collection. Two reservable, soundproof Zoom ROOMs (one four-person meeting pod and one single occupancy phone booth pod). Public computers for internet access, research, and word processing tasks. One-on-one technological assistance through Washoe County Library's Book a Librarian program, including help with unemployment applications, job searches, and resume assistance. A wide range of books, music, movies, and books on CD, as well as downloadable ebooks, audio books, and magazines. We also have a growing collection of materials in Spanish." Service - Great, very welcoming. Greeted immediately when I walked in. Price - Free, thank you. Owner Comment - Thank you Washoe county.

I haven't been to a library in forever and this one is closest to where I live so I went in. The staff was VERY friendly and accomodating, and I got my card right away. There was a great children's section in back, good seating places, and some tables, and an area in back where they have book sales which I was given a bookmark that had the scheduled day/time in which they sell. You can also donate books too, and I do have a lot I should donate either to sell or they can happily have them for their own shelves. I checked out four books quickly, and well, I thought the place was nice!

Sometimes if it's a book I've requested, a staff member will even deliver it to my office for me! The stacks have a pretty decent selection of the philosophy monographs that I'd like to consult but that I don't already own. We subscribe to most of the academic journals that I need for my research and teaching. The building is absolutely beautiful, and it warms my heart to see so many students working in it. There are lots of computers, study rooms, and tables for getting one's work done. The Bytes coffee shop has basic snacks and drinks for folks who need a pick-me-up but don't want to walk outside to the Joe. I like how there are sometimes free recitals in the main floor rotunda. I often disappear into the Graduate Reading Room whenever I need to grade papers in a comfy chair without any distractions. I've booked the basement floor main room on multiple occasions to show films to my classes, and the process was easy and the technology worked. Why not a full five stars? I wish parking were easier. The course reserves system is a pain in the neck, which is why I don't use it for my classes. I wish the library would allocate more resources to subscribe to a couple key subfield journals that I have tried to make a case for us needing to own. I hear that working as a library junior faculty member is filled with drama. But all in all, the KC is great!

There are many things about this place that makes it awesome. The library is one. It is state of the art. They have the MARS system that retrieves the book that you request instead of looking for it yourself or a librarian. How awesome that you have a robot get your book for you and kind of creepy if you think about it. Terminators are real haha. No, but seriously a cool device and makes it very easy. There is also a small coffee and food shop next to the library. Their coffee is decent and I go in there from time to time to grab a cup. During the semester you can book a room in the library for studying. You can also book it for a group study session. There are also plenty of computers in there for students to use. You must have your student access account to use these computers. There is also a hidden library attached to the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center. There is access to that library from the north side of the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center and an elevator outside the north entrance of the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge building. At the Ground floor is the @ One Center. This is a great place for doing your homework. They have a lot of computers here. They have Mac and Regular PC computers. This is a great place for digital media students. You can also rent movies, video equipment, a sound room and much more. You can also print your papers here and also print out graphs, stickers, etc. I forget the proper terminology for it but it's a place where you can do printouts like Kinkos and I'm sure they can do so much more that what I know. But it's pretty awesome. I think they have a tutoring center by the south entrance. I think it's a tutoring center I have never used it myself but I saw a sign once. Also they have the Wells Fargo auditorium that holds artist presentations, public presentations, movies, and much more. I'm sure I am missing a bunch of stuff to add to this review but that is what I can remember. Thank your for reading my review.
