The wife was looking at libraries to bring our kids to while on our little vacation to Reno this summer. Well, she found out that the downtown library in Reno is somewhat famous! Yup, that's right, a cool library that's even well known. Apparently this library has always been filled with wonderful indoor plants of all kinds. As I walked in I was quite impressed by how green the space and relaxing the environment was because of all the beautiful plants. Oh yeah: - so so so many plants all over, hanging, standing, growing sideways, coming down towards you, they are all around. - all kinds of from pothos, monsteras, fiddle leaf figs, and succulents to spider plants and snake plants. If you can think of it, and it's an indoor plant, it's probably here! - Multiple floors with so many book stacks and more - several of the floors are kind of half floors, interesting right? - friendly staff who helped my kids and provided a fun scavenger hunt for them (keep them young longer). They said it was fun even without prizes. - basement floor is actually like an indoor atrium of sorts, you can eat there, it's paved like a backyard with the pebbles embedded in concrete so you don't have to worry about getting the floor dirty. Lots of seating and the coolest spot too being lower level. Ehh: - no free parking. It's a bummer but understandable being this is downtown in a bigger city like Reno where everyone's office is located so if they had a lot or a structure for the public library it'd be expensive to maintain AND many people would likely illegally park there AND they would have to charge the patrons anyways.

Heeeere's the downtown public library. I was not even prepared for the overwhelming sight before my eyes. I don't know if you folks are familiar with the 70s science fiction film "Silent Running". It was like walking onto the valley forge set of the movie. And it's still a wonderful library too! Are you kidding me?! And BTW everyone there( you know, the librarians) are so kind and informative. I grew up with libraries from coast to coast including the New York public library. But I'm hard pressed to say this is a wee bit more impressive. Wow! Go get yourself a book!

Ever…read moresince then, I've just used their online e- books - downloading and putting on holds - easy peasy! But, I found a book that is only available in hard copy. WHAT -- I'll make do. The book was on signed out by someone else and I put a hold on it - via their website. This morning, I received an email saying - your book is ready. It took 3 minutes for me to find the book, check it out and get back into my car. HOW COOL IS THAT!? Technology has really brought libraries to the future.

We went to a circle time here, and a bilingual family game night. I also came to their art class. Over the summer they offered a free animal show. I'm blown away of how much is going on here. I highly recommend you should run, not walk to this library. I'm am so happy it is close by and it's open every day, even Sundays. Everyone I have met is super helpful. No complaints. Shout out to Emily! She is my favorite librarian. These are the best parts of community we must foster and take care of. They also don't penalize you for late fees and have no limit for checking out. There is a books sale area and a section that gives away food in the front. People bring things in and others take what they need. I absolutely love that. We need this more! The library did not pass their WC -1 on election day. Unfortunately our libraries will be reducing resources due to budget cuts. I will be emailing my Washoe county commission office about this. I encourage you to do the same.

This library reminds me of so many in Elk Grove and other bedroom communities across NorCal that are very kids-and family-friendly and nicely designed for everyone. This library has been around since the early 2000s but they've really kept it nice. From the colorful palette in the children's area, to the soft warm tones in the grown up sections, all parts of this library is comfortable and cozy to hang out in. Kids section is tucked in and filled with shorter shelves perfect for them, and there's a couch/lounging area for parents to sit with kids and read together. Very colorful with lots of cute decors all throughout on shelves and walls. Adults section have lots of reference and non-fiction as well as fiction books, cds's, and dvd's. There's also a small "gallery" cove area with original art by local artists that resembles a lot like the cubism by Picasso. Nice. Several meeting and study rooms are available to reserve for quiet reading and studying. This library looks out to nice landscaping on all sides and esp. into the South Valleys Regional Park on one side which is full of green fields, very pretty. Overall, this is a lovely library and I'm glad we had the opportunity to discover and visit this Washoe County library in Reno.

Not sure what the complaints are about, because I don't need some 'fashionable' library or a…read morerenovated one...I just need a quiet place to get books I am interested in and as long as it's clean, who cares what the decor is like? I haven't been to a library in forever and this one is closest to where I live so I went in. The staff was VERY friendly and accomodating, and I got my card right away. There was a great children's section in back, good seating places, and some tables, and an area in back where they have book sales which I was given a bookmark that had the scheduled day/time in which they sell. You can also donate books too, and I do have a lot I should donate either to sell or they can happily have them for their own shelves. I checked out four books quickly, and well, I thought the place was nice!

You tap the screen to start, the door opens and the conveyor belt starts. Place your book down and a scanner reads the barcode. When you're all done, you get an email confirmation that your book was returned, so you won't face any late fees! (If returned on time of course). I've placed a few books on hold and picked up at this library. It's super easy to walk in, turn to the left, find your book (sorted by last name) and use the self check out kiosks to check the book(s) out. There is a staff member at a podium when you first walk in, so if you need help, they are ready and available to assist.

This is how people that own these places get their houses in the hills above Reno...by conning and ripping off the average Joe day in and day out. I beg you not to waste your time with these literary cretins. It will cost you more in gas to drive there than they will offer you for your books. And for God's sake don't take anything valuable to them. Burn them or take them to a local charity and donate them.
