Reno's Downtown Public Library is a hidden gem! The architectural design is stunning, with greenery woven seamlessly into the space--it feels like nature and architecture in perfect harmony. There's a great section for families and kids, and the atmosphere is ideal for reading or getting work done. I do wish they had more books. Some of the shelves was pretty empty at the time of our visit. Nonetheless, Ended up signing up and picked up a book on photography! A peaceful retreat in the heart of the city for sure!

Have you visited your local library yet? This is your sign to do so! Reno's Downtown library is an unexpected pleasure. Upon walking in, you're immediately greeted with a thriving jungle of plants which brings so much life and color to the building! There is plenty of seating available throughout the building, with free wifi, computers to use, outlets everywhere, and even meeting rooms. To those complaining about homeless in the building, please gather some perspective. This is a free, comfortable space with amazing resources for anyone to use. I'm happy that diverse demographics are able to utilize the public library, and it is a place equally accessible for those with or without homes, of all ages, and of all backgrounds. In terms of safety, I noticed nothing but respect given to all the library staff from each patron, and there is also a security guard constantly roaming the building. Get your free library card and spend some time in this wonderful place!

A lush and tropical jungle paradise where the books live! Such friendly and helpful librarians and staff eager to guide you to your interests! Many floors of books, quiet corners, computers and ponds. Uncluttered book shelves and feels well paced for exploring the treasure trove of information.

The plants all over make this a desirable place to read! The staff was friendly and so helpful. I was able to find some of what I was looking for and pre-ordered some books that were checked out already. They allow you to check out books for three weeks which I thought was fantastic and they auto renew. I got a library card quickly (under 5 mins) and found parking right outside with ease. I wish there were more books present inside but it just means that lots of people are reading!

    Beautiful plants

I've recently got back into borrowing books from the library. The last time I borrowed a book was back when I was early elementary school aged in Las Vegas. I got a library card before, but I never used it and let it expire. I re-signed up at the tail end of summer and I have loved it. Technology makes checking out books a breeze. I can go online, request a book by placing a hold, then no matter which library in Washoe County it's at, it is some how magically transported to my preferred library and I get an email notification that it's ready for pick up. I walk into this library, grab it off the shelf, and do a self-checkout and I'm done! It's much easier than spending time wandering the shelves looking for a book and hoping it's in the right place or wondering if it's checked out. You can place a hold on a popular book, and it tells you which place in the queue for the book you are. Super thankful for the library system. Plus, this particular library location is STUNNING. All the greenery and plants make it not feel like a stuffy library but a light jungle to read in. There is even a small pond on the bottom floor with places to read around it.

I LOVE this place. It is one of my favorite buildings in Reno. The style is so typical of the late 60's. The whole idea of "organic" architecture was coming into its own. And boy is this space organic! Because the architect was not able to build the library in the park, he decided to literally build the park in the library. There are trees and multitudes of plants, and cascading vines and even a small pond. I have expect to hear the cawing of exotic jungle birds. The space is broken up into small areas and corners and concrete lily pads for reading and working. There are multitudes of computers for working, free wi-fi for accessing, magazines, newspapers, e-books, videos and yes - even real live books. Staff are friendly and helpful. And getting a library card is free. Yes - people do still use the library and yes, it is open to all. This wonderful architectural treasure is worth a trip to downtown.

If you've never been to a library, then you should and this location should be the first one you'd want to check out!!! As you enter this library, you will be greeted a "hallway" of plants. The lush green surroundings make the ambience relaxing! There is also a water fountain on the ground floor that will put you into a zen-ish mood. There are plenty of sitting area and you will find a seat even during busy hours. Yes, this is in Downtown. Yes, there are homeless folks that go to this library. And yes, I do not mind. Just like the rest of patrons, those homeless folks are minding their own business reading a book or using one of the net stations. In all honesty, I love that they choose to spend their time in library doing library things!!! The staff/volunteers here are ALWAYS so nice and willing to help. The library is clean and well maintained.

Daughter went skiing at Northstar. Decided to take a quick trip to Reno to gamble, work a little and have lunch. Always go to the public libraries for free Wi-Fi to work. This was one of the nicest inside libraries I've been to in years. No free parking but I felt safe, Wi-Fi was excellent and there were ample workstations with outlets. Worked for a few hours and got a lot of work done. Highly recommend.

    Amazing. Readers' oasis.

We stopped by on one hot summer afternoon. With the abundance of green live plants throughout and natural light, it felt like an oasis. The unusual building structure seemed perfect for a public library. I would love to sit at one of the small tables and just get lost in a book. The whole place makes me feel very nostalgic, as if I've been here before. I love that feeling. Now, some negatives. The books are not easy to find. it seemed the selection was rather small, but it could well be because of their huge shelf areas. I also learned just now that they close two days a week (Fri/Sat? Really?) and close early in eve. I know I am spoiled locally in Marin, where the public libraries are just amazing, but that's a bit sad. Also, no parking. We were able to just park on the street, but this would be inconvenient for families with little kids, disabled users, and in bad weathers. I hope this place, and the public libraries as a whole, gets more love!

I highly recommend you should run, not walk to this library. I'm am so happy it is close by and it's open every day, even Sundays. Everyone I have met is super helpful. No complaints. Shout out to Emily! She is my favorite librarian. These are the best parts of community we must foster and take care of. They also don't penalize you for late fees and have no limit for checking out. There is a books sale area and a section that gives away food in the front. People bring things in and others take what they need. I absolutely love that. We need this more! The library did not pass their WC -1 on election day. Unfortunately our libraries will be reducing resources due to budget cuts. I will be emailing my Washoe county commission office about this. I encourage you to do the same.

Gave me something to do; to explore and Yelp while my wife shopped next door at the Nevada Marketplace. Also a cool find - Memory kits and blood pressure kits (not for me, but useful for my guests if/when they visit). Ambiance - HUGE location!! Not too busy, but definitely had some activity in all parts of the library. From the computers, to the kids area, private rooms, group meetings, etc. Open 6 days a week from 10am to 4pm, 6pm or 7pm. Closed Sundays. See website for specific hours. Cut and pasted from their website: "Sierra View Library offers: Seating for collaborative work or individual pursuits with personal devices. Free Wi-Fi and wireless printing. A youth collection and area with plenty of space for families to gather, play with games and LEGO, enjoy story times, or attend a variety of programs like Crafternoon. A dedicated space for teens to gather and work on computers in the heart of the young adult materials collection. Two reservable, soundproof Zoom ROOMs (one four-person meeting pod and one single occupancy phone booth pod). Public computers for internet access, research, and word processing tasks. One-on-one technological assistance through Washoe County Library's Book a Librarian program, including help with unemployment applications, job searches, and resume assistance. A wide range of books, music, movies, and books on CD, as well as downloadable ebooks, audio books, and magazines. We also have a growing collection of materials in Spanish." I haven't been to a library in forever and this one is closest to where I live so I went in. The staff was VERY friendly and accomodating, and I got my card right away. There was a great children's section in back, good seating places, and some tables, and an area in back where they have book sales which I was given a bookmark that had the scheduled day/time in which they sell. You can also donate books too, and I do have a lot I should donate either to sell or they can happily have them for their own shelves. I checked out four books quickly, and well, I thought the place was nice!

Sometimes if it's a book I've requested, a staff member will even deliver it to my office for me! The stacks have a pretty decent selection of the philosophy monographs that I'd like to consult but that I don't already own. We subscribe to most of the academic journals that I need for my research and teaching. The building is absolutely beautiful, and it warms my heart to see so many students working in it. There are lots of computers, study rooms, and tables for getting one's work done. The Bytes coffee shop has basic snacks and drinks for folks who need a pick-me-up but don't want to walk outside to the Joe. I like how there are sometimes free recitals in the main floor rotunda. I often disappear into the Graduate Reading Room whenever I need to grade papers in a comfy chair without any distractions. I've booked the basement floor main room on multiple occasions to show films to my classes, and the process was easy and the technology worked. Why not a full five stars? I wish parking were easier. The course reserves system is a pain in the neck, which is why I don't use it for my classes. I wish the library would allocate more resources to subscribe to a couple key subfield journals that I have tried to make a case for us needing to own. I hear that working as a library junior faculty member is filled with drama. But all in all, the KC is great!

There are many things about this place that makes it awesome. The library is one. It is state of the art. They have the MARS system that retrieves the book that you request instead of looking for it yourself or a librarian. How awesome that you have a robot get your book for you and kind of creepy if you think about it. Terminators are real haha. No, but seriously a cool device and makes it very easy. There is also a small coffee and food shop next to the library. Their coffee is decent and I go in there from time to time to grab a cup. During the semester you can book a room in the library for studying. You can also book it for a group study session. There are also plenty of computers in there for students to use. You must have your student access account to use these computers. There is also a hidden library attached to the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center. There is access to that library from the north side of the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center and an elevator outside the north entrance of the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge building. At the Ground floor is the @ One Center. This is a great place for doing your homework. They have a lot of computers here. They have Mac and Regular PC computers. This is a great place for digital media students. You can also rent movies, video equipment, a sound room and much more. You can also print your papers here and also print out graphs, stickers, etc. I forget the proper terminology for it but it's a place where you can do printouts like Kinkos and I'm sure they can do so much more that what I know. But it's pretty awesome. I think they have a tutoring center by the south entrance. I think it's a tutoring center I have never used it myself but I saw a sign once. Also they have the Wells Fargo auditorium that holds artist presentations, public presentations, movies, and much more. I'm sure I am missing a bunch of stuff to add to this review but that is what I can remember. Thank your for reading my review.
