It's my own fault at this point for not finding another doctors's office. Of all the doctors that I go to and where I have to take my children this place definitely makes everything the most difficult -- you have to call to basically getting in queue for a call back for an appointment... as a working parent, this could not be more inconvenience. And they're super strict on when they can see your kid. So you are at the mercy of their schedule. They don't take late afternoon appointments. They don't take super early appointments. You can't get in on a Saturday unless maybe it's an urgent walk-in. It is so incredibly inconvenient. This is not the place for you if you work or have a busy schedule. For years now, I keep finding myself at urgent care because this doctor's office can NEVER accommodate my schedule. I have to find another doctor for my children read more

I have been going here since I was three years old and it is the best place ever they give me free coins for toys when I'm done and make my teeth extra extra shiny and let me watch my favorite shows while I'm going. I love this place and it is so clean in here and amazing. read more

I RAN when I did! My belated review was an awful experience we had... I recall it vividly even though it wasn't yesterday... the doctor we saw was OK but frankly I didn't get the warm fuzzy and trust Here's the kicker: the entire staff/nurses were horrendous. I was a new parent at the time and was frazzled and didn't know what to do.... but the staff's lack of professionalism or care raised my innate alarm bells. i.e. My poor newborn daughter was whisked from one area to another with nothing but her diaper on (this was winter...she was cold, screaming, and hated the experience), and so did I! I did not feel any trust with this practice, and immediately called friends and went to a different pediatric practice in SR (and happily stayed with the other place) - so glad we ran away from this place. Cannot imagine putting my babies at risk with this place... read more

I give 5 stars for Dr Ku who was key in her keen intuition, to my sons diagnosis early with cancer (for which we have a positive prognosis so far)- for which I am forever thankful. She is a great listener, incredibly warm and friendly- but sadly only works a few days a week so is hard to get into! We love her! Otherwise I appreciate this practices hours and sick hours especially- with three kids I've been saved by this offices hours and availability again and again. It's hit or miss with some docs/PAs/NPs being better/more personable than others- but nothing we haven't experienced at the several other pediatric offices we've utilized as we've moved around. The front area is a bit dingy, but overall we are happy with our relationship with this practice! And we adore Dr Ku!! read more

Been going to see Dr. John and Dr. Shannon for years; very profession and knowledgeable. Happy to have them look after my child!

Short version: Dr Angela Nguyen - 5 stars. She is excellent. She's thorough, thoughtful, communicative, and caring. My wife and I have science backgrounds and we were so happy to see her take an evidence-based approach to pediatrics. When we asked specific questions she was able to provide both answers from medical literature and insights from her clinical experience. Dr. Benjamin Reynolds - 2 stars. We saw Dr. Reynolds the first time we went to South Riding Pediatrics and the experience was bad enough to make us not want to come back. In fact, the only reason we returned was because we needed to do a quick weight check a few days after our initial appointment and didn't have time to find another practice. Dr. Reynolds gave extremely generic advice (ie, read these 2 books, swaddle the baby, etc) and didn't spend much time with us. We left feeling like we had just talked to a guy with kids who read a few books, not a medical specialist. read more

I'm pregnant with our first child, so called to better understand their new patient enrollment process and to see if I could meet with a doctor to ask them any questions and get to know the practice. The first person I spoke with said to call back once I give birth and the baby is a month old and then they'll schedule my first appointment. I told them that definitely isn't right and they had me speak with someone else. That person apologized and said the receptionist was new, then scheduled an appointment for my husband and I to come in about 2 weeks later. We show up and they say they don't schedule appointments for that and it's usually a phone call at lunch time, versus a late afternoon appointment. I've heard great things but super disappointed in how disorganized they've been. We'll be finding another practice for our child. read more

Dr. Dina is absolutely wonderful. The practice as a whole, that's another story: Brought our 1 year old by, having had to pick her up from daycare when she spiked a fever of 102. She was acting pretty normal and we didn't think it warranted an ER visit; but wanted to get her checked out by her PCP just to be on the safe side. The waiting room had two other families in it at the time we signed in and were informed that because we were a walk-in, there would be a 25$ inconvenience surcharge on top of our regular co-pay. Whatever, not ideal but not unreasonable. The 1 year old and I (and her 102 fever) then sat in the waiting room for an hour while at least 15 other patients were seen--both sick and well visits alike. After an hour had passed, I politely expressed my displeasure and we were seen within 10 minutes. Look, I'm not an unreasonable person. I value time and schedules. I also understand that when you inconvenience someone, you don't get "special" favors. But I also believe it's unreasonable to expect a sick 1 year old with a high fever to sit and wait in your waiting room for over an hour while your support staff gossips at the center station and your doctors see other children on well visits, particularly when you are already charging for the inconvenience. You won't convince me that anyplace that cares about children would stand for that type of policy or standard of "care". This isn't the first issue we've had with them, but it will most certainly be the last. Goodbye, SR Peds. We surely won't "inconvenience" you ever again. read more

I have been driving 45 minutes out of my way to take my 3 children to this practice for 16 years. You will find none better. I went through no less than 6 pediatricians before finally finding Dr. John. He is not only, kind, funny, caring and patient but most importantly his knowledge in unsurpassed. He has diagnosed very unique health issues and then expertly assisted us in finding ways to either cure them or work around them. My three children, two girls and a boy, always look forward to their well checks because Dr. John puts them at ease and listens to them with respect. I recommend him and his team to everyone who asks for a referral. read more

We have been patients here for over ten years and I have no complaints - or else we wouldn't still be coming here! I'm sorry the other reviewer had a bad experience, but I've found this practice to be pleasant and convenient (they have evening hours). My kids like the doctors here - Dr. Farrell has a great rapport with kids - and they have never been nervous about appointments or even shots. For annual visits we request Dr. Farrell and since we make our appointments in advance, we've never had a problem with seeing the doctor of our choice. Of course, for a "sick" visit, you get whomever is available first, and we've seen Dr. Dina, Dr. Ben, and Dr. Shannon - all have been very personable and knowledgeable. I also haven't had any hesitation about the office being unclean. If you mean the waiting area, I'm sure it's cleaned frequently but when you have a bunch of kids running around, you can't expect the waiting room to be spotless. Any of the exam rooms we've been in have been very clean. read more

We recently moved to South Riding and were very happy to find Dr. Lynn Fogarty! We were able to easily schedule an annual check up within 2 days of calling to set the appointment and Dr. Fogarty was great. She seemed to genuinely care about my daughter, was very personable, honest, and didn't seem rushed at all. I felt like she was very focused on my daughter and making sure she was healthy and that we didn't have any other unanswered questions or concerns and never like she was just going through the motions or rushing from one appointment to the next. read more

We have seen wonderful doctors and nurses in Reston, but will never go to this office again. The nurse had no compassion, was not helpful and was dismissive. When I called back after leaving the office, they put me on hold and never picked up. I drove back to the office to ask for help and was again treated poorly by the same nurse. I was still on hold on my phone with them as they sat and waited for noon (closing). The doctor was good except she called my child by the wrong name more than once. read more

I have 2 main concerns about this practice 1) Not respecting a patient's time. If you enjoy waiting 30+ mins beyond your scheduled appointment time then this is the place for you. We have NEVER (I repeat NEVER) been seen on time. We are moving to Rubio's which is directly upstairs from SRP, and I am telling everyone we know about this. Doctors are fine but this practice does not respect a patient's time. Waits exceeding 30 minutes in the waitroom/lobby are common, once they bring you out back, additional waits exceeding 20 minutes to see the doctor are common. What is the purpose of "an appointment" if the practice cannot fulfill it. In my business if my employees are 30+ minutes late consistently, they'd no longer work for me. 2) Second thing I'd like to mention, please treat each child as an individual. I don't want to hear what the AAP recommends with your every breath, listen to our concerns rather than refer to the AAP's so-called "standards and recommendations." There are 2 doctors there who are notorious for this, it's almost like you are talking to a robot and not a pediatrician. South Riding Pediatrics, don't forget this is a service-industry. There are a lot of pediatric practices around this area competing for business, keep this up and no matter how good your doctors are, people are bound to leave. read more

DO NOT RECOMMEND My child had a fever raving from 100-102 degrees for 2 days I was so worried but it was over the weekend and they just told me to give her tylenol. However, her temperature still remained above the nornal range at at about 100-101 degrees. So I brought her in first thing in the morning on Monday. During my whole visit there neither the nurse nor the doctor (daina) took her temperature. And of course I mentioned it to them. They told me that it didn't make a difference. I don't mind that the wait time may be long or the front Staff is rude, they should at least give some more care and effort toward their patients especially a child who cannot talk yet. read more

My daughter has been a patient there for several years. Love Dr. Ben and Dr. Shannon in particular. Had only one experience with Dr. John and he was rude and dismissive. The waiting area looks horrible. The office staff is very unpleasant. It feels like a practice that has existed on sheer volume since it's the only major ped practice in South Riding. They simply do not care that the front desk staff gives such poor customer service. Now, they have been outsourcing triage calls to a nurse in Richmond that people have to wait for this woman to call back from a non SR PED number. It's ridiculous and outrageous. They do not care. Getting an appointment that is not during school hours is nearly impossible yet they advertise evening and weekend hours. read more

We have been patients here for a little over 5 years and we are always able to get same day appointments and we never have long wait times once we are in the office. The staff is wonderful and kind, the doctors are very knowledgeable and understanding. We are so blessed to have chosen this practice and the care of our children have been top notch. read more

Our experience with South Riding Pediatrics has exceeded my expectations. As new parents who panicked at our first (of several) 103+ degree fevers, we've called after hours and visited the practice quite a bit during our baby's first year. All of the doctors have been extremely competent and patient during each of these interactions. We chose Dr. Shannon for our well baby visits (who is awesome!) but have been seen by Dr. Dina and Dr. John Farrell. Dr. John was the doctor on call over Memorial Day weekend and he opened the doors on a Sunday morning specifically to see my daughter who had a double ear infection plus pink eye and was in a lot of pain. After I thanked him profusely he simply responded that he didn't want her to go untreated over the holiday since she was probably very uncomfortable. Yes, we've had to wait on occasion but it is usually minimal and not the norm. Our well baby visits are extremely thorough and we never feel rushed. I would much rather wait 10 minutes for an excellent doctor's visit than be seen immediately for a mediocre visit. I would highly recommend this practice to any of my friends and family. read more

I have had two kids at South Riding Pediatrics since the time they were born... 11 years. I have never had anything other than amazing care from the doctors and help from the staff. One of my daughters requires special medication and care so we visit more frequent than others. I honestly wouldn't go anywhere else! read more

Very pleasant, understanding and accommodating stuff. Office is clean, scheduling visit is easy, providers are attentive and knowledgeable

Pleasant physicians and gentle bedside manner, however at the cost of knowledge. Shannon Price told me that my 5 year-old's skull probably hadn't fused together yet, to explain the small knots on his head. They turned out to be swollen lymph nodes; took an ER physician to tell me that. Ben Reynolds doesn't know that Children's Motrin has been discontinued/recalled since last year some time and advised me to administer this to my child a few days ago! Not thorough with collecting vital information; fail to take temperatures on sick visits (when fever is reported) routinely. They are friendly, yet largly incompetent and unknowledgeable. But, they always have appointments - for obvious reasons. read more

I take my three kids here. I have found the doctors knowledgeable and friendly. I am particularly impressed with Dr. Farrell. My kids are younger and I appreciate that they are supportive of breastfeeding and don't whine about co-sleeping. That said, they are a busy practice. When my daughter got sick before her first well-care visit, even though my other kids had already been there, she wasn't considered a patient and the first appointment they would give me was two days away. I wanted to get my child back into school, not have her sitting at home for something that wasn't contagious. That was VERY annoying. As for being left waiting, maybe once or twice. Overall I have found them prompt. Unlike my old pediatricians they don't nickel and dime you with added charges. There is a $5 fee for forms, but that is half of the price at my former pediatricians. Overall quite pleased, but not impressed with well-care at South Riding. That one sick visit situation was a major disappointment. read more

This place is like a train station. They have over 3500 Patients. You have to wait 3 month in advance to make annual checkup. And when you go for the checkup doctor spend like less then 5 min time with your child. Plus front office people are really rude. Everybody please don't wast your time there. Go find some other doctor and if you know any good one please let me know. read more

We have been going there for two years. I'd recommend some one not to though if they have not. Here is why: - Front desk is really rude, the Indian lady, never smile, orders you things. - They charge you for late fee(literally), but if you make it on time, you could be accepted up to 20 minutes late.. ??1!?!! - Every time we are forced to lye down our kid, she is hyper and never allows us to do that, cries so much. There are easier methods available, like stepping up on a scale with a parent. You have to almost argue so you can get that option. - The room is cold in the winter and scales are outside in the hall, they tell you to undress your kid and take it to scale and bring it back undressed and dont put anything on untill doctor arrive. Totally wrong approach, + why there is no scale in the rooms? - We have used Dr farrel initial birth and have been using another doctor afterwards, the only reason we go there is so we can see the same doctor since birth, though I feel like they forget between the visits. - Our kid was late to learn how to speak, like me and my wife, (we spoke around 2.5) and doctor told us if she does not speak next visit, she may need to get a speech therapist. That flipped us out.. - Their building's disability door control does not work most of the times, moms are walking in with babies and carseats handsfull with stuff, a touch to the automatic door opener is really help if it could work. - Toys are really dirty, it's nice that they have toys there but I feel like they are contaminated with viruses of all the sick kids, they have stains of saliva and sticky fingers. read more

I have nothing bad to say about any of the doctors. Each one we have encountered are great. We particularly like Dr. Ben. I appreciate that they require vaccinations. My only gripe is the office environment could use a face lift. It's clean but seems cluttered. Not the end of the world but if it was more visually kid-friendly it would make the waiting room more interesting for the little kids. Although I'm sure parents with older kids probably appreciate that fact. read more

I am so glad I found South Riding Pediatrics. Dr. Dina is wonderful; just plain fantastic. The care and concern she has demonstrated with my son is exceptional and I am forever grateful. During his regular check ups and times when my son has been ill she has taken the right measures to treat him; while helping me remain calm plus a follow up call. Thank you so much South Riding Pediatrics and Dr. Dina. Waiting area is large and clean, staff has always been friendly. Parents if you are going to a doctors office please note toys can be dirty or have germs; have Purell at all times :) read more

After 4 years of going to this practice, we're moving on. On Friday my son was there for a sick visit because of a bad cough. While he was in the waiting room he coughed himself into such a lather he vomited on their waiting room floor. He was seen pretty quickly after that, and I was told how a cough benefits the body. He was sent home with no prescription for his cough. Three hours later he coughed himself into another lather and puked again. This was not the first occurrence of sending our sick children home without a prescription, but many throughout the past 4 years. When I took him back the next day, he was given nothing for the cough again, I point-blank asked the doctor "Is there ever any instance where any child would ever be prescribed codeine?" His answer, "not in this practice." Further, the doctors at the practice have repeatedly suggested to us not to treat their fevers, even if the children are suffering headaches; a fever is good for the body. Thank goodness Ibuprofen is available over-the-counter, because we would not have gotten it from South Riding Pediatrics. Four years of watching my children suffer through the night (as their mom and I suffered) is enough. We are switching to a practice that will treat our sick children. read more

We are new to the area, so we were need of finding a pediatrician in South Riding. Big mistake, the front office staff is very unfriendly, the office looks more like a DMV rather than a pediatricians office. I find it strange that they're not violating some sort of HIPAA rule by being able to see into exams room from the reception area. The worst part of the visit was Dr. Angela. She walked into the room saying "cool, cool" before introducing herself and the med student shadowing her, extremely unprofessional . I took my daughter in for running a temp if 102F and NO ONE took her temp. This office was a complete joke. I have high standards when it come to our children's pediatricians, and this office didn't even meet my lowest expectations. It's a joke! read more

Terrible experience with Dr. Dina. She will speak to you in a condescending manner and goes by "textbook" parenting with no actual experience in parenting. We had several bad interactions with her but the most recent one was when she filled my toddler with laxatives for constipation and didn't properly check her bottom after seeing there was a puddle of blood in her diaper. After more blood was seen that same day, she continued to down play the issue and said she should just rest it off at home. Three days later we were at the ER and my daughter was having a surgical procedure thanks to her lack of knowledge and the fact that she brushed the situation off. The office manager urged me to I give this practice one more chance, but I will surely never see this young, inexperienced, disrespectful woman again. read more

We have been patients of South Riding Pediatrics for at least 12 years now. We've seen almost all of them over the years...Dr. John, Dr. Ben. Dr. Dina... When I tried to make a sports physical appointment, available appts were a couple of months away. Luckily for me, Dr. Lynn had a cancellation and they were able to get my 16 year old in. We were BOTH super impressed. She took lots of time with my son, to review his past records & ongoing issues, what his specialists were saying and made notes to track down information from his specialists and to do some research on her own. I offered to make an appointment in a month to follow up, and she said she would just give me a call. Super impressed with her ability to think outside the box and willingness to do more than was required by that appointment. Where has she been all these years??? ;) You know she must be good, if even a 16 year old guy thinks she was good, after a physical at the pediatricians office!! My family has found a new Dr. Too bad she can't see the adults too!! Thank you Dr. Lynn!! read more

I have been bringing my twins to the south riding location and the reston one since they were born. Dr. Farrell came to see them in the hospital. We LOVE the doctors there. We have never received less than exactly what we needed from them when we have gone in. I have never considered leaving. If I had any complaint at all it would be that both locations are hard to get into with a double stroller but I suspect that would be the case with most doctors offices. You're always going to have some negative reviews but as a new Mom of twins, I trust them and have been happy to have them as our doctors for almost three years. read more

I called asking to see a doctor because my 13 year old daughter was sick with diarrhea and was not eating. They told me that they would not see her unless I transferred my records from my regular pediatrician to them, which I refused, since I had never used them before, and it would cost me a significant amount of money to do a transfer as they charge er document. My regular pediatrician is located over 20 miles from where we have just moved to a new neighborhood so i was still doing research on recommended pediatricians in our new neighborhood when I called South Riding Pediatrics. Their refusal says a lot about their ethics and attitude towards patience. Would have given them zero if the rating system allowed. What kind of doctors refuse patience? With that, I would never consider them ever again. Would rather do the long distance drive with my regular pediatrician for now. Shame on them. I wish government could do something about such practices. Lawyers? read more

It's been five days since I left my first message for a nurse regarding a refill on allergy medication for my son. After several promises that a nurse would call me back finally after I asked to speak to the office manager someone called me. They said they would call in a refill that day for his meds. Went to the pharmacy---no refill And guess what, no return call from the office manager. Horrible office staff but great doctors. I really like Dr. Ben, John, and Shannon but this experience has prompted me to write this review and promote other offices for pediatric care.
