Dr. Mar is great with my teenager. She listens and asks questions before making a suggestion, while giving the teen space to answer how they want. Then I found out she has 2 boys a little older than my teen... so she definitely understands how they think. Office is very efficient and I am able to get an appointment pretty easily. We recently transferred to Farrell at the suggestion of some parent friends and are so happy we did! Our last provider was impossible to schedule, always left us on hold for extended periods of time, and wanted to sprint through well visits as quickly as possible. This pediatrician's office is. just. awful. We have seen 4 different doctors here. We've been completely unimpressed with all of them. They are dismissive and rush you. When you ask questions, they speak to you like you're both an imposition and a moron (I'm an ICU nurse, for reference). The entire staff, nurses, and front desk associates alike, are terrible. They never answer their phone or they put you on hold for ages. One day, on my way to the office for an appointment, I called to ask a question before heading over. I drove the entire 23 minutes to the office while ON HOLD. They charge you nurse's appointments ($40) for a weight check or follow-up vaccines (our new pediatrician wouldn't dream of doing that--in fact we went back in for a follow-up vaccine at our new pediatrician's office and when I asked what the charge for the vaccine and weight check that they did were, they said, "we don't charge for that!"). The office is old and dirty. The entire office and staff is an utter mess. I'm upset with myself that it took me so long to find another pediatrician but now that I have it's like night and day. I'm so happy to NEVER have to go back to this awful place. PLEASE SO NOT GO THERE. read more

I came in to see the provider for my son and there is this one African American nurse that is so great. My son has autism so having someone that is patient and kind really helps. I love how she interact with the kids when she sees them in the hall and we always leave with a bag full of goodies. She has really brought some sunshine to that office. If you go ask for her by name I think its Nurse Tasha. She is literally the only African American nurse they have in both offices. But if you have her as your nurse your child will most definitely feel safe and be well taken care of. read more

Their billing department sent the wrong insurance information and charged me the full amount, they never even mentioned that my insurance claim got rejected. Instead they just blamed it on my high deductible plan. Worst billing department ever. I'll be getting in touch to get my $750 back. read more

The waiting area is very small and front desk lady wasn't nice and impolite. I found this practice based on Dr Evan Karp's good reviews. However, I am very disappointed with the practice and the Dr. My 4 month old baby was diagnosed with fungus where it was eczema. After using prescribed fungus cream, my son face got worse and had to take my son to dermatologist after 2 days using wrong medication. I will not returning this practice and wouldn't recommend it. read more

We've been going here for 11 years now, and have been generally very happy. Last time, we waited much longer than expected, but now I realize it was spring break week, so probably short-staffed. This time, my son needed a two booster shots, and the nurse that gave them to him was so smooth and quick about them that he didn't even feel one of them. He was so relieved and happy, that he shouted out to everyone in the office, "She deserves a promotion!" Very embarrassing for me. I wish I had gotten the nurse's name so I could give a shout-out to her, and tell everyone, "She deserves a promotion!" too. read more

We have been with Farrell Pediatrics for nearly 10 years and were happy for much of the time. Unfortunately there have been changes that have significantly decreased our confidence in the practice. Many of the Doctors are capable and caring, some are rushed and do not provide thoughtful diagnoses or spend time to truly understand the issues. The front office however is dismissive and at times rude. I understand that the past 6 months are hard on everyone, but this has been going on for at least a year. The lack of responsiveness, condescending tone, and complete lack of empathy for normal parent concerns and questions is abysmal. Either the staff is a reflection of the leadership or management is out of touch with the front-facing staff and shows a lack of oversight that is concerning. read more

I have been going to Farrell Pediatrics in Reston with my 3 children for the past 14 years. Although Dr. Karp is wonderful (and no longer there), the rest of the staff is lacking. I've heard the nurses laughing and joking at our expense when they didn't think we can hear, I've been incorrectly billed for services, I've had to wait for hours for a call back from the office, and one of the doctors charged me a diagnosis fee when I answered her question during a routine check-up (which shouldn't have cost anything). I've also requested not to meet with a certain doctor and the receptionist on the call laughed and said she understood completely which gave me a horrible impression of the dynamics there. The worst is being treated as we are a nuisance instead of parents with young children. Having been through a high number of appointments with all 3 kids, I can tell you that about half of my appointments have been less than satisfactory and the ones that were great are with doctors that are no longer practicing there (which is why I am giving only one star). Unfortunately, I have run out of options at this office and have moved my older two kids to other practices. I'm working to have my records for my youngest moved shortly. If you are looking for a caring environment where you feel like you and your child matters, look elsewhere. 90% of the time, the front desk won't even look up or greet you when you walk up to the window. read more

I've been taking my 3 kids to Farrell Pediatrics in Reston for 20 years now and they have been fabulous. We see whichever doctor is available and the nurses have always taken great care of us. Dr. Kapoor is particularly great and we recently saw Dr. Evans who spent loads of time talking to my daughters and getting to know them. We usually see Dr. Karp who is great and the experience in this office has been positive. But this time, we had to see a dr. and he was not in. So it was Dr. Suzy Thompson who we never met or knew about. Nothing special during the exam. Then she left after her part was done. Mins later,literally one or two mins max, we also walked out the room. There they were, a group of nurses and Drs, standing close by each other and Dr. Thompson was talking with great emotion about my preference of Catheter for DD. I heard her loud and clear that she was "shocked". As soon as one person saw us and gave warning "there they are" , she stopped. Guess what, I, myself, am more than shocked!!! First of all, you just turned around and talked about your patient and her parent in public. What are those patient confidentiality form for?! And excuse me, we are still in your office! Second, every child has her/his different experience/attitude toward potty. Do you even know my kid?! She had been unwilling to do potty say the least. So she hold everything in for a day and that was why we made the trip to see you in the first place. We ended up having to give her diaper for her to release everything. It is worst feeling for any parent to be judged. Let alone , this person happened to be a children's dr., whose job description does not include being judgmental. read more

Like the previous poster, I'm baffled by the angry comments about the staff. Both of my boys have been patients of Dr. Karp for the last severals years. We've always been treated courteously and, more important, we're always able to get timely appointments -- especially sick visits. And I don't think I've ever waited in the waiting room more than 10 minutes before being seen. The nurses are not chit chatty but it's because they're busy, and we understand that. I would not characterize them as rude, however. We couldn't be happier with Dr. Karp. His caring and engaging bedside manner puts the boys at ease, and his experience and competence make mom happy. We came to Dr. Karp on the referral of a pediatrician friend after our previous pediatrician retired. It's challenging to find male pediatricians, and I thought it would be more comfortable for my sons as they go through puberty. She recommended Dr. Karp, and I'm so grateful. read more

We've been going to Farrell Pediatrics for nearly 3 years and I couldn't be happier with the practice. We adore Dr. Kapoor and Dr. Karp, they are by far the best in the practice. They listen to your concerns and never make you feel rushed. It is easy to get a same day visit when your child is sick, but making an appointment farther in advance can be a little difficult sometimes when you want a specific doctor. We were recently scheduled for an appointment with Dr. Kapoor for my son's 2 week checkup, but she was running late when we arrived (more babies than she expected when covering someone else's shift at the area hospital) so they had bumped us to another doctor. I really wanted Dr. Kapoor, so they were able to schedule us for an appointment about 40 minutes later. Instead of making me wait in the waiting room with a 2-week-old, they took us back right away, and Dr. Kapoor saw us as soon as she arrived. A+ for great service! read more

Dr. Karp is the best pediatrician I've ever met. He is thorough, smart, and very warm He never rushes the appointment and engages the kids in conversation, which I appreciate. I've taken both my boys there and they both really like him. My oldest (6) actually said as we were walking out, "I really like that doctor a lot!" The only reason why I gave the practice 4 instead of 5 stars is because the nursing staff is not that friendly, but I'm willing to deal with it in order to see Dr. Karp. read more

Really, we love it here. The doctors are all fantastic and the nurses have all been wonderful with my kids. The front office staff is not always warm and cuddly, but they're efficient, which is preferable to super chatty in my book. There seems to be a bit of a turnover in front office staff, so there's always a new person around who gets confused, but if you specifically ask for someone who has been there awhile, everything gets done fast. It's still miles ahead of other offices I've dealt with. I've never had to wait long to get an appointment when it was urgent, and even manage to get in for cancellations when I'm scheduling routine visits. The waiting room doesn't have a lot of space or toys, but I've never had to wait in it for more than a couple minutes, so that doesn't matter. I really recommend this practice. read more

I don't know why on earth people have criticized the front desk staff, because they are the sweetest, most helpful receptionists I've ever met. I adore them as well. Fantastic doctors and staff!!!! They serve lots of patients, but that does not show in the individual care each and every doctor and nurse provides. I am provided nurse call backs sometimes before coming in. My son is 21 and my daughter is 15 and we wouldn't think of going any where else ever. I had the most unfortunate experience with this practice. We moved to the area, transferred care here for our daughter and went in for a routine 18mo well visit. I had NO Medical concerns or questions for the doctor regarding my child. She initiated a significant line of questions regarding her medical history and illness. I answered them all, but again did not ask for any input or advice from the doctor. About two weeks later I received a bill for an office visit/sick visit, coded above a Normal well visit, because I sought medical advice regarding history of eczema. Spoke to the billing staff and they said it is the doctors prerogative to charge because she gave medical council and it was documented that she asked. If I had requested any information I would happily pay the bill and be done but now I don't want to go back because I feel like they will nickel and dime me every visit if I ask for any Normal advice about a child. Unfortunate that this is the way they operate to make money instead of a patient first mentality to meet a new patient and make the parent feel confident and comfortable. read more

I'm not one to write reviews but i feel that i need to share my thoughts. My 2 1/2 yr old son has been going to this office since he was born. As i have taken him in for each visit we have been rudely greeted if greeted at all by the receptionists in the front. They are the coldest and most emotionless people i have ever experienced. Thats really sad because even if the doctors were great, the front of the house represents them very poorly. The nurses need some attitude adjustments as well. They are judgemental and not afraid to express it. All the doctors are great except for the one time i couldnt get in to see one of the usual doctors. We had to see Dr. Smith (not real name)...my son had an eye infection and this new doctor gave my 2 yr old a $600 prescription for eyedrops. She gave us an expired coupon and when we called to let her know about the coupon she sent us on a wild goose chase to find rebates for it online. After calling them a few times we got a new prescription that costed $3. Needless to say i am now searching for a new pediatrician. The thought of contacting them or going in to their office gives me anxiety. If the people working in this practice are so unhappy and miserable they should seek new careers instead of spewing their misery and hatred to the children and parents that turn to them and entrust them to help their children. read more

We have been patients since 2013 when my daughter was born, we now have 2 children seen by this practice. We have had nothing but positive experiences. We usually see Dr. Kapoor who is amazing. She talks to me with respect as I navigate various childhood illnesses. They pay attention to the children and their comfort level (explaining or leaving them on a lap as needed). They have always been able to accommodate us when we needed a same day appointment and they partner for Saturday hours in South Riding (also convenient). read more

I will rate the Doctors four stars. The doctors are very knowledgeable, expirienced, accommodating, compassionate and very good with kids. Unfortunately, the support staff is inflexible, rude, disorganized ( routinely mess up appointments ) and forget they work in a place where the health of the kids should be paramount. Therefore, I rate the staff cero stars. As a result I can only give the practice two stars overall. read more
