South Norwalk Station
Troy D.

This review is based on my firsthand experiences as a customer of this businesses. I travel through the South Norwalk train station about 6 times per week on my way to work. Yelp removed my original review below becasue they don't think it demonstrates firsthand experience even though they have a reocrd of all my check-ins, but they didn't fix the name or map location even though I provided evidence showing the Yelp listing is incorrect. Clearly, the moderators are... The correct name for this listing is South Norwalk Station. This station serves not only the Metro-North New Haven Line, but also the CT Rail Shore Line East. The station is owned and managed by the Norwalk Transit District, not the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The map location for this listing is incorrect. Please see screenshot from Apple Maps for the correct location and name. Yelp is a dogshow. Don't trust anything you see here without verification. If you live in South Norwalk, this is a great train station. It's an easy stroll from the heart of town. If you're driving, parking is limited - the garage fills early - and costs $10/day in the outside lot. The station itself is typical of most Metro North stations, and it's easy to purchase tickets at the machine outside or from a real person inside. Trains are usually on time, and the tracks are clearly marked. (You just need to check the monitors to see which train is on what track.) The vending machines have a fairly wide variety of foodstuffs - even gluten free snacks - and there is a small concession stand serving a limited menu.

It's kind of grubby but they try. The trains aren't super on time.

Ask the Community - South Norwalk

I am driving from Boston to Connecticut. Which is the best train station I can park my car safely overnight for 4 days to catch a train to NY?

South Norwalk train station has a parking garage, which is safe to park in. I've parked there for several days with no problem. Commuters park there all the time. It's an hour to NYC from there.

Is there a bike parking available at the station or somewhere close by?

There is bike parking. Make sure to secure your bike. I love South Norwalk station nothing bad about it but always secure your bike =)

One of the first points to notice is there is a New Haven side and a New York side which is helpful to know if you are getting fropped off on one side or the other.

I had no complaints, personally. The cab showed up on time. The car was clean and the driver nice enough. Got where I had to go, and when I got there my card was processed using Square, which is great because then I didn't have to worry about losing the receipt (they emailed it to me). To be frank, the only reason I'm even making this review is because after my research on which service to use I came to realize that the only reason one would likely review a cab service is if they had a bad experience. That's not usually fair to the company. So in my one time experience, everything worked out just fine.

Uber is the greatest way to travel in NYC!…read more Install the App everyone! I was in NYC this weekend. It was raining. No cabs so I called Uber. WOW! In a sec they told me how many cars in my area, the closest one, how many minutes away. Photo, Name, license plate, color & model of car! I used it three times. No money exchanged hands, everything is done with your account. As long as you have your phone your all set to go!!!! Uber drivers take you anywhere ( nothing is too far & return you later) including NJ, PA... No cab driver moaning about how many fares he'll lose. I am a New Yorker at heart. I know my way around the city very well. Unfortunately there is always construction going on, but I know where I'm going.

The first booking I ever made with Uber, went well. I reserved an Uber several days in advance of a…read moreride to the airport - which is 27/miles from my home (a 31/min ride). The cost was reasonable $36.79 for a 4:30AM pickup on a Thursday. I tipped my driver 25%. My second Uber booking was ultimately a FAILURE. This was my return trip from the airport to my home, two days later on Saturday evening. Landing at 9:30/PM, retrieving baggage and contacting Uber at 10:00/PM. The least expensive Uber was $136.00 and the prices went up according to vehicle. That is "quadruple" what I paid two days earlier. This fee is/was, nothing but a scam and a ripoff. Totally taking advantage of weary travelers who want to get home. I would not pay the fee. I did not book an Uber. I took a taxi for $77.00 which is also expensive - but I had little choice, I paid. I will find other alternatives in the future, like hiring a neighbor.
