The Irvington Metro North Station is home to the beginning of many-a-journey into glorious New York…read moreCity. Whether it has been jobs, or concerts, or Yankees games, or anything else under the NYC sun, this station has gotten me there. Irvington curiously has TWO Metro North stations. As you may not have realized, the "Ardsley-on-Hudson" stop is actually in the western-most part of Irvington. So in such a small town, you actually have two options. However, Irvington's central stop sits at the bottom of its Main Street, aptly titled "Main Street." Therefore this is the most convenient location for anyone in the town. It's nice in the sense that you can look down on the river from the top of main street and see the quirky small town with its very own train station taking people to and from the big city. There are trains going towards the city which are on the river side of the tracks and then the ones going to Croton Harmon which are on the Main Street side. To get to the other side of the tracks you must walk in a short underground tunnel which pops you right under the awning of the river-side track. This is nice for rainy days because once you hit the tunnel you don't have to worry about getting rained on anymore. Overall this station used to technically have more going on with it's abandoned central office that sits in the Main Street side, but is still a bustling tool utilized by all Irvingtonians to get to and from the city.

It's a quiet little station devoid of the crackheads who are rampant in Waterbury, so police presence isn't needed late at night - yeah, it's deserted, but on the same side, nobody's going to bother you walking to your car at the garage across the street because there's nobody there to bother you. However, if it's the weekend or I don't want to spend a zillion years travelling, or just need better service frequency, I'd take the extra 15 minutes to ride over the state line to Brewster. On the weekend the slight extra expense for tickets evens out when your round trip is 80 minutes shorter and parking is free. That said, during the week there are some direct to/from GCT trains during peak hours.
