The Animas River Trail is a multi-use paved trail running along the Animas River through the heart…read moreof Durango. Right now it's about seven miles long but there are plans in place to expand the trail at both ends. Along the way are several grassy parks (some with restrooms), a skate park, an off-leash dog park, shops and restaurants. River access points are plentiful so it's easy to put your inner tube in the water and float along until you're ready to get out and walk back upstream to do it again. Mileage markers have been placed along the route so you can easily figure out how far you've traveled. The trail ran right behind the hotel where we stayed so we used it frequently for dog walks during our time in Durango. One morning when in need of a trash can, I was astonished to discover there weren't any along that particular stretch of trail. As I began to look around, I was equally surprised to discover not one piece of trash anywhere along the trail. Excellent job, citizens and visitors of Durango!

Durango was never on my radar until my fellow hikers recommended it. It is a quaint city and this…read moreriver trail is nice for a stroll or a 9+ mile bike ride. It is mostly in good condition with about 20 percent with cracks that will give you a jolt. The final down river section has two modest inclines. Nice crossovers over wooden bridges. No bathrooms. Thank goodness for Albertson's right off the trail. Parking around Downtown is metered. About five-six blocks away from the river is free street parking. The white water launch park (in one of the photos) has a parking lot with a steam engine locomotive. Free or not I am unsure. Placards along the trail to note the development of the city. Stop for lunch in one of the many options on Main St.

We did the early morning half day Jeep tour to La Plata Canyon on 9/27/26. We initially thought…read morethat this tour would be cancelled because we were the only couple that had signed up. We had been looking forward to doing this for many months! I'm happy to say that the great people at Mild to Wild allowed us to take the tour even though they really look to have at least four or more on these trips. We really appreciated their decision on this! Miles was our guide and I've got to say, we were so happy with his pleasant demeanor and wealth of knowledge about the area. Miles is a great guy and I consider us very lucky to have had him as our guide. We appreciated him taking a few photos of us as well. We lucked out with the weather because it was a clear day with crisp temps in the morning and warmer in the afternoon. The area had seen a lot of rainfall in the week before our arrival and so there were creeks and streams and waterfalls flowing all along our route to Kennebec Pass. This was the first off road experience for both my wife and I and we had a blast in the back of the jeep! A good portion of the dirt road is very rocky but it didn't bother us one bit. In fact, we were laughing a lot of the time. We loved the whole Durango area and this jeep trip was definitely one of the highlights of our visit. We even stayed in the back of the jeep for the trip back to the Mild to Wild headquarters once we left the dirt road. It was all just a great experience.

Fantastic free flowing white water rafting experience in the upper Animas river! I was expecting a…read morelittle more class IV rapids than what we had, but the experience was epic! We paddled through sun, rain, and hail, all in one trip! Epic, I tell u!! Our guides, Marcus and Robby were the best! Super cool dudes who were super knowledgeable! They kept us safe and made the experience such a blast! Colorado had the lowest snowfall this past winter so the river was really low and rapids were on the slow side. Make sure to check river flow and CSF levels if u decide to book this adventure so that u're not surprised by the low flow. The river only clocked in at 620 cfs when we ran it, so we didn't have too many big rapids and drops, but it was a very technical run and such a blast to experience this ultimate and wild experience with my hubby!!
