My husband have used this business for 3 large house moves as well as a few small moves for local craigslist pick ups. All I can say is it's been nothing but smooth sailing with the fine couple who man the phone lines and get you going with your truck rental! Dare I say impatient, disgruntled college students don't always make for the most accurate reviews.. South Davis Storage is a smaller division so naturally they can only hold so many trucks in their lot. I can only imagine how busy they are during move-out weekends -- especially when they're dealing with last minute bookings by frantic, impatient students. Unless you plan early and call ahead of time to make sure the truck is there, it's your fault not theirs for coming up empty handed. **Gold stars for the couple who've chosen to set up shop in a college town** (It's probably a combination of great business tactic and hair-pulling stress) One suggestion also is to pay close attention when you're booking online. Certain longer trucks (16' and larger) are often only available in West Sac. The website will tell you this small detail but doesn't present it very clearly, which can be frustrating when you're explaining it to the nice lady at the front desk. Way pricier than other storage options in Davis and the units have rats in them which means they're not being treated for pests thoroughly or frequently enough. I also only had my things here for three weeks. Found rat bite marks on my Tupperware that I left in nearly new condition and had absolutely no food at all in my unit. The rats got into an unopened container of Tums and left them all over the place too. read more

DO NOT buy a thing here. No returns is apparently 'posted' on the window which was not pointed out to me and was among several other notices too far away for me to read and in the glare of the window. I spent $56 here on boxes and newsprint for my daughter's move and found when I arrived that she had all she needed. Day after I bought these items, unopened, unused they would not let me return them for a refund. Very poor PR and no regard to customer satisfaction. read more

This review is long overdue. I've been renting here for about two years or so. The owners are complete idiots and don't know what's going on half of the time. The main owner, Bob, I think? Is totally rude, and will give you false information. Then, you call him out on it, he gets flustered and will hand you off to his son to deal with his mess. They have a HUGE rat problem, and won't do anything about it. I had to throw away hundreds of dollars worth of my personal belongings, because they were covered in rat urine and feces. They didn't apologize at all for this issue, and pretty much said, "there's nothing we can do." So lazy. This place isn't worth it. Give your money to another storage faculty in Davis. read more

I had made a reservation for a cargo van. The staff called me 3 times about this order and asked for my information each time. However on pickup day my reservation was cancelled without sending me any kind of notice. I found out that my order had been cancelled when I arrived to the storage unit and after waiting for customer service for 30 minutes. This incident almost ruined my plans to return home. read more

I was going to leave this well enough alone after just leaving a review on the Uhaul site yelp, but as the owners have since sent me a personal email continuing the conversation and notifying me that I am not welcome at any of their locations... I'll leave the review here just to warn anyone else who may have the misfortune of dealing with this business. Let me start by saying this is NOT where we reserved our Uhaul from. We reserved and paid online to pickup at another location however this is the one that fulfilled our order. I called and tried to change it but couldn't. This location was in a whole other town - that's the first problem. We're charged per mile and had to drive way out of our way (16 miles further than the original uhaul place we requested that was on the same street that we were going to). We are moving my 90 year old great grandma's stuff out of her house today, she was admitted to the hospital this week. This has been an extremely stressful week, not to mention now having to drive way out of the way to pick up the uhaul, but ok, whatever, fine. We selected an 8:00am pickup. We arrived in the 9:00 hour. Partly because we were running late, partly because we had to go out of our way. We were greeted by incredible rude and condescending staff that lectured us about being late.... um, last time I checked we PAID FOR THE WHOLE DAY, so doesn't matter if we pick up at 8:00 or 5 minutes before closing, we already paid, it's ours for the day. Then, go outside to get in the uhaul with an associate, asked him for the key, he insisted that we were given the key, we searched everywhere, he went back inside in a very irritated manner and at a snails pace to find that he in fact DID NOT give us the key. Got in and find the ignition is completely exposed, plastic cover/part of the dash is missing. We mention that it's missing so we aren't charged for it, he responds "if I would've fixed it, you wouldn't have a truck right now." All in all, a horrible experience. Advice to staff: don't ever lecture your customers, it will NEVER be good for your business, get you more customers, or be helpful to your reputation. Advice to potential customers: If you still chose to do business here, make sure you're on time! Or expect to be lectured and treated like garbage. read more

over-the-top rude. the elder robert waited on me and was beyond slow. ok, can live with that. but as the son went to get the truck i was renting, the father (robert) tell me there's an additional fee of $10. i told him that needs to be disclosed upfront and he tells me he's just doing his job. i told him to forget it and walked outside. i relayed to the son what had gone down and he says no, there is no service charge, it is a small fee and tax. when i came back in to rent it, the elder just yells at me saying i have been rude since i walked in and he has the right to refuse service to anyone. after about a minute of him raising his voice at me, he walks into the back office and closes the door and then immediately comes back out to raise his voice at me again. i asked him if that made him feel better. he was a mess and not cutout for customer service. get rid of him. the son checked at the uhaul for me and i was on my way. needless to say, as long as he's there, i will not be back. read more

I tried to reserve a truck 2 months in advance and the lady on the phone hung up on me on purpose after telling me she can't reserve a truck for so far in advance! Just reserved and rented a 15' Uhaul from here last week and everything went smoothly. I reserved about a week in advance and called directly. They were really nice over the phone and in person. They were honest and accurate about my rental options, so no surprises when I went to pick up. I used it for moving within Davis. After returning the truck, the final charges were exactly what I expected so they also provide accurate guesstimates. I am definitely recommending them and would do business here again. read more

I rented the unit for longer than a year. I informed them that a Semi-Truck would periodically pick up pallets from my unit, this was agreed to by the management. And this is what I have been doing for the passed year or so. Last week when the truck came, as usual, one of the managers came out and began yelling at the driver. Today when I was at the unit, She informed me that Semi trucks were not allowed on to the property. As far as I know, the rules haven't been changed and the contact says nothing about semi trucks not being allowed on the premises. The manager was very unprofessional. When she first spoke to me, she said that the storage units were not allowed to be used for business purposes. (they clearly are, she even went to look it up and later told me that it was allowed). She was just saying things without even knowing what the policy was, obviously. read more

SO RUDE !!! bad experience i ever had. never seen a staff rude like her. I had reservation on the morning 10:30,. I was just came early and see if i could get the truck sooner . i was very gentle to ask if I could get the car sooner than my reservation time. she told me you had to wait until all 9am reservation done. so that I ask her shall i come back 10 ? she just got mad , and yell me out ?! I was so surprised , but I didn't say anything ,just shrugged . then she said if you say one more word , you will lose your reservation . I still kept quiet since i don't wanna lose my reservation, before I said anything, she just told me you loss your reservation . A deceased friend of mine had a storage space at this place (and at three other storage facilities around the Bay Area). The other three were cooperative, friendly and helpful. Charlie at South Davis Storage was the only one who made it as difficult and expensive for me as he possibly could. He charged me for storage while he would not allow me access to the space until he got the death certificate, which took several weeks. If I lived near Davis, I would have taken him to Small Claims Court. He also discovered a handful (literally, a handful) of hazardous material in the debris box I hired, which I inadvertently put in the box during a powerful rainstorm when I was trying to get done and out of the rain. That ended up costing me almost $1,000 in disposal fees and fines. He could have simply called me to tell me about the items and I would have immediately driven up there and removed them. What a contrast to Harrison Self Storage nearby on Madson Place, where the staff was friendly, helpful, cooperative and helped me get the space cleaned with the least trouble and minimum charges and some free days as well. I think South Davis Storage is a really, really bad place to do business. read more

I have so many words to say about this business; SCAMMERS, HUSTLERS, and the STORAGE PIMPS of Davis. There is a reason why this storage has so many negative reviews, I wish I would have done my research prior to dealing with this storage place.These people will come up with all sorts of ways to take a customers money. Upon arriving in Davis to get my things out of their unit, I had to wait until another person pulled up to the gate to get into the facility (I forgot my access code and was told they could not give it to me over the phone, which I understood). After coming through the gates, I walked into the office and asked for the access code, so that I could come back and forth and was told that they would not give it to me because I am leaving out but they would leave the gate open for me. They lied and closed the gates on me on purpose. Fortunately for me, my intuition was to take my expensive items out of storage first, just in case they close the gates on me. My intuition was right! I took my expensive belongings out of storage and had to leave behind my cheap items and drive all the way back to Los Angeles. I recently received a letter in the mail stating that I owe them $400.00, but I have not rented the unit for 2 months and I was not given a copy of the access code to get the rest of my things. These people are upset that I took my expensive belongings and left them with my cheap stuff, but what else was I to do? they refuse to give me the copy of the access code and lied about keeping the gates open for me. Now they have my full deposit and after almost three months, they are charging me for a storage unit that I have no access to, because they refuse to give me a copy of the gate code. read more
