This review is for Public Storage in general as a company, & not the Davis location specifically...although the storage space access hours could certainly be extended, lol. Apparently Public Storage is in the rate gouging business, as our storage space increased by 51.5% in some 14 months or so. Chan is great! Sad my monthly rate went up, but as far as customer service goes, they have been extremely helpful at this location. When I initially got my unit, I had to purchase a lock, and without realizing, improperly locked it when I left my unit after loading all my valuables in it. They called me within 24 hours to let me know about this so that I could come fix it and make sure my items stayed safe. Thank you!! read more

Public Storage made it so easy for me to select and move into a storage unit for a really good price. My 10x10' unit is $102/month, which I find very reasonable. The property manager, Paz, was so thorough, respectful, and professional, and he really made the experience of completing my rental and moving in enjoyable. After 7 months, Public Storage has decided to increase the price on my storage unit by 21%. Both the property manager and customer service say this is standard once a year. Looking online, it seems like they jack the rate every 6 months. It is hard to trust this company's word when they never originally mentioned arbitrary 20+% increases in the monthly bill within the first year. They never said it would happen down the line, and the contract I signed never gave any specific details on what the future pricing would be beyond 6 months. I can understand a reasonable 5% annual hike to account for inflation and maintenance. 21% after 7 months is disrespectful to customers, and it shocks me there are no regulations to target this type of behavior from the self-storage industry. I appreciate the location of the property, as it is a convenient place to store things near downtown/campus. However, if you are looking to store something long-term, I suggest you find a way to come to a specific agreement to prevent them from gouging you, or find an alternative means of holding on to your stuff. Public Storage will take as much money from you as possible if you don't do something about it. read more

I've had good experience here so far. The couple that runs the place has always been curtious and nice. They are there reasonable hours (which means I don't have to punch in my gate code) and the place is immaculate. There are bathrooms on site, which help with extended moves and also getting over the In-N-Out that you invariably buy on the way to get there. The price was reasonable for me (coming from SF) but I am sure that you might be able to find a better deal further out. They have a 3 month commitment deal, as well as a 1st month free (you have to pay the setup fee) deal. They also reserved my unit free of charge for more than a month to guarantee I'd have a space reserved once I arrived. Obviously, summer is their busy time and you have to some advance planning, but in terms of convenience to downtown and quality of maintainance it is a particularly nice storage spot. A note for renters: You don't need to purchase insurance through them if you have renter's insurance (or your parents homeowners insurance) so don't pay extra for it. I actually appreciate that everyone is supposed to have coverage here, but don't be pressured into something you don't need. Also, you can certainly use your own lock, so don't feel compelled to have to purchase one there, as they tend to be over priced at any storage place. read more

This place and their Regional Manager are terrible. I rented a unit 3 or 4 months ago, and just got a notice of rent increase of nearly 40%!!!! This is disgusting!!!! The Management at Davis tried to get it reduced a bit, as they were shocked too!!! Answer came back NO!!!! I am angry!! I am a single senior woman, on a fixed income!! This is a huge hardship!! I am going to tell everyone I know, and give feedback like this every chance I get!!! Mean, and terrible--this should be illegal!!!!! read more

This place stole my money! I started renting a small unit a few months ago and I planned on moving out on August 5th. At the time, they told me I wouldn't have to pay for the whole month of August but just the first 5 nights. I called their costumer service two weeks prior to moving out, and they confirmed this was the case and told me not to pay for the whole month. On the day I moved out, however, they told me their policy had changed some months earlier and that I would have to pay for the whole month, meaning they either lied to me on the phone or the operators didn't have the correct information. I tried calling them back just to receive an extremely rude and unhelpful response, no information on whether my previous call had been recorded and whether they still had the recording, and no apology for their mistake. If I had known about this change (if they had TOLD me when I asked), I would have moved out on the last day of July, so they literally stole my rent money for all of August. I would not recommend this place unless you want your money to be stolen and horrible costumer service. read more

Horrible customer service. In the beginning of my rental here I felt very welcomed and felt it was the greatest customer service ever. After a recent event they became rude and unprofessional. I felt as if once they have had me for a while they were whatever to me. I was on the phone with one of the workers there and she started off very rude asking me questions and then at the end of the conversations when she finished what she had to say she just hung up on me. Didn't even say good bye or asked if I had any questions. She just hung up on me. Which is EXTREMELY rude and unprofessional. Regardless if she was having a bad day or anything she shouldn't have hung up like that. I honestly wouldn't give any stars for this place. And I felt like the whole time she was talking to me as if I were a child she was trying to scold. I definitely recommend a different location for storage. I have no problem with their policies or how they operate, I just have a problem with the customer service they have there. It just makes everything unpleasant and a hassle to work with. read more

I recently rented a small outside unit here for just a couple of months. Unfortunately, when I returned to collect my belongings there was a lot of fresh rat droppings and urine. This is my fourth time renting a unit from Public Storage in Davis. I live 200 feet from another storage place, but I would rather come here. The facility is nice, clean, secure, and in an easy to access area. Joy has always been very helpful, provides excellent service, and I enjoy chatting with her whenever I come. A courtesy call is also made, before payment is due and you have not signed onto auto pay yet. I definitely recommend this place for the Davis community and those leaving or moving into Davis. If I could have put NEGATIVE stars...I would've! This place is NOT ONLY RUN DOWN, but as soon as you walk in...It smells like an ASH TRAY. JOY, the manager...not at all like her name, she's very RUDE. I said we were only going to rent unit for a short time, her attitude changed right away as she asked me, why? She tried NOT adding the promotion, until I said its $25 NOT $116 right?! Then when I declined to buy their $20 dollar lock, she gave me more attitude and right then I knew there would be issues. That night, BEFORE gates closed, we discovered we were locked out of our PAID storage unit. I talked to district manager and asked for a refund. He agreed & said have her send my info to him. SHE REFUSED & played dumb..what am I supposed to send? Aurgued about the problem, & said HE NEEDED 2 call HER!!! NOT PROFESSIONAL, or MANAGEMENT material!!! Great place to store your things. Customer service is above and beyond normal expectations. Employees are always smiling and happy to do what they can if you need anything. Always out and about with there maintenance cart keeping the place in tip top shape. The property manager is sharp, smart and is an all around good person. She knows her job and property very well. I can't speak for the storage aspect, but I like that they sell boxes -- If you don't feel like dumpster diving or are just short on time, they've got sturdy cardboard boxes in varying sizes, plus packing tape. Price range is about $2.39 for a small box (good size for a small stack of books) and $5 for a large I think. They offer quantity discounts. I'm moving my stuff from Davis to Sacramento and need a place to store my things for about a month and a half. I've been putting it off, so I was frightened that I'd have to leave everything out on a curb (Yikes!). Obviously, I need a storage unit, so I go to this Public Storage. By pure, sheer luck it was definitely the right decision. As soon as I pulled up, I was welcomed by one of the friendliest people I have ever met. Her name is Joy, and let me tell you, she is the definition of Joy. She asked what I needed to store and knew right away what size would benefit me the most. And luckily, they had what I needed available. Immediately, she took me to go see the unit, and all the while we're talking and joking around. This was no longer a chore; it was delightful. In the meantime, she's also giving me prices and letting me know what my best options are, and as a college student, I am nothing but grateful that she made this so easy. We walk back and it turns out she knows a thing or two about moving trucks (bonus!). I definitely recommend seeking out Joy if you are a college student who doesn't want moving to be a hassle. This is a review based on customer service since that is essential to me. But as far as prices go, you can go ask her and she'll give you everything you need to know. She's the best! read more

I joined the storage game a little late. I called up 2nd Street Storage and Central Davis Storage because those were my best options at the time. About a week ago, I called 2nd Street, described to them the items I wanted to store and recommended their 4 by 5, told us about the prices. I told them I was going to come in one week later, and they said that was fine. Fast forward a week later, they said they have no space. This would have been less irritating had they told me that spaces would go out soon. Then I called Central and they said they had no spaces and hung up rather rudely. Then Public Storage came as a savior. It was easy, painless, and straightforward. First, I went online and looked up which storage was closest to my location. Obviously the one on Olive Drive showed up and very conveniently it showed me that there was one space available. Then I proceeded to book that unit free of charge with confirmation emails and text messages. Shortly after I got a phone call from Chuck regarding my booking. Upon arrival we were able to meet with Chuck and he went over all of the information very nicely, was very patient, and gave us his recommendations. He was very helpful, kind, and courteous. My dad and I both appreciated his attitude, personality, and The fact that he took the time to explain to us everything that we were doing regarding the contract such as the unit what we were paying for and our costs over the next few months. It really seem to Chuck genuinely cared about my experience with public storage and making sure that my stuff was safe at a rather reasonable price. Chuck really made the process painless and easy for us, and I would definitely recommend people to come here especially if Chuck is at the front desk. read more

I waited to write a review, as I like to be somewhere for awhile before I do. When I first signed a lease for a storage, I was satisfied and happy with the service and the space. After only a few months, they jacked my price up almost $20. I know that may not seem a lot to some, but in this economy, that is almost a tank of gas. I was very upset that there was no reason for the sudden increase. I can see after a year, but 4 months? Not at all happy with this move, but the staff is still courteous and the space is sufficient. I would not recommend them if you are hoping for a set price. read more

I was selling my house and needed a place to store items before showing it. I found this place, made an online reservation and immediately got a call back from Joy. I went to view the unit and had it reserved with my keys in hand in one visit. Since I was storing personal items and nice furniture, I wanted a secure place. When it comes to security, Joy runs a tight ship. She is always on site to answer any questions. She frequently walks the premises, making sure no funny stuff is going on.
