Ok, still going strong with getting my SMOG check at South County SMOG for like over 11 years now!!! Talk about supporting a local business despite the owners having changed a few years back. The nice thing is that I received a $10 discount with their recent post card mailer, so a nice savings there: $10.00( discount) - $56.75 = $55.00. Just waiting for my SMOG to get completed NOTE: they are SUPER QUICK. DONE: 10 MINUTES !!!! Way to go South County SMOG keep up the great work!!! read more

Fast, quick, and easy place for smog. Have taken all our cars here and will continue to do so.

Service was fast enough. However, I must emphasize how rude and unpleasant the gentleman that runs this place is. No tact, acts constantly annoyed and very brisk. Didn't even look at me when I thanked him for the service provided. I don't understand how this place is top rated in Gilroy. read more

Quick, efficient, service. They're very busy, juggling a few cars/customers at a time with some wait time (but that's understandable) but get the job done at competitive prices. read more

Brought my vehicle in for smog today at 4:25; they close at 5:00. Man came out and told me he couldn't do it today; they were finishing up on the car in the garage per the owner of that vehicle. This is not the first time I have had an issue here; but have been coming here for years and thought maybe it was just a bad day. Today he loses my business. The last time was over where I parked my car when all the spots were open; he has since put up very large signs so everyone knows. He made me move my car and five minutes later my car was taken in for service. I am a very patient person and try very hard to give people leeway. I said nothing back to him either time ,though I wanted to. read more

Fast and very good service. Recommend to anyone with any car type. I brought the fun car and no problems.

I've been using South County Smog for three years now for all my cars. They are super efficient and helpful. It's quick service and Ali Saeb is very friendly and communicative. I'll def keep going back. read more

Clean location, no appt needed, fast service; Steve Newman was very polite, professional, and it took less than 15' to get the smog check done and out of the door. However be careful- they have a lunch break 12-12:30 which is not mentioned on the door or on their business card; I got there at 12:15, but I returned 20' later. No big deal, just good to know. read more

Ali saeb helped me out on a holiday, very friendly, fast and great prices too! Best place for smog .

Beware! Brought truck in for smog and although it passed emissions they failed it because they said it didn't pass the visual inspection because they couldn't read the numbers on the catalytic converter. Rudely said, "You gotta go to the referee". At home we crawled underneath the truck and simply wiped away the road grime to EASILY see the numbers. Then we had to go through the time and expense of the state referee AND another smog at another shop which we passed with flying colors. I called the shop to ask if the owner was available and Steve immediately hung up on me before I even said why I was calling. It's a shame because the old owners were great and ran a wonderful business. Update- thank you for reaching out and for the refund. We appreciate that you took the time to rectify the situation. read more

South County Smog is a great place to take your vehicle. I have taken multiple cars/trucks here over many years and each time I have had a good experience. my car recently failed on the first try and they told me what I needed to do to get it to pass. I received a notification from the DMV indicating that I needed a smog check for my Honda Pilot. Having recently done a smog check for another car, I decided to revisit the same small business. Unfortunately, when I arrived at 9:50 am on a Saturday, they were closed for the day. I turned to Yelp to find another smog check business nearby and came across South County Smog Test Center, which was about a mile away and opening in 7 minutes. Perfect timing! I headed over and was able to get my smog check done as soon as they opened at 10:00 am. The service was quick and efficient, costing $65 for my Honda Pilot. I really appreciated the convenience and prompt service. Highly recommend South County Smog Test Center for their reliability and efficiency! read more

South County Smog Test Center - Smog Check Stations Near Me - Gilroy, California

Called them up on a Friday about a 1998 GMC Jimmy and they gave me the ring around on their hours, saying they close earlier than stated etc. Brought it in on Saturday (with another personal vehicle), the gentleman working was friendly and helpful, but my Jimmy needed a road test before running the full smog. I drove around town for 60 miles and came back, he said there was one more portion not reading and I'd need to drive it more, but would have to return on Monday. I called back on Monday, because I was working and couldn't bring it in earlier, and they said they couldn't even take my vehicle there. I told him it was there Saturday, and he came up with more excuses(again). I finally brought it back today, Wednesday, and the employees told me they won't take my vehicle, even though I had the paperwork proving they already had. The employees were incredibly dishonest, gave me some BS reasoning, and after being so fed up I just left. If they had legitimate reasoning for not taking the vehicle, I would have been understanding. But trying to say your hours change, your machine can't handle it, and whatever other garbage they used just let such a sour taste in my mouth. Their job is to preform smog checks, if they don't want to do that then maybe they shouldn't be a smog center... read more

Honesty, in the automotive sector is not an easy quality to find. South County smog is the exception. We have multiple trucks and cars to smog at any given time over the course of the year. We keep our vehicles in good working order, and they pass the emissions test. In the event the car/truck has an issue we are given the information. We have the issue addressed and back to complete the smog test. I like shops that play it straight. This is a good smog location. read more

Came the day before Thanksgiving because I realized I still needed to get this done before the end of the month. Great service here and friendly and welcoming to new clients. Even coming on a "busy" day where I was told there would be a wait, no more than 15-20 mins. South County Smog gives you a free retest, if your car doesn't pass smog the first time, giving you the opportunity to go take care of your car and not have to worry about paying for another test. Great service, not going anywhere else for smog checks!!! read more

Wow maybe ownership changed but the guy working in the front is very rude and grumpy. Not the kind service I've had before. Abrupt and rude to everyone that has come in to his shop. Eeek! Think I'll be finding a new smog place. Ironically the office had signs saying to review them on Yelp! LOL! read more

Customer service here is terrible, I took my vehicle in for a smog after calling to make sure they had availability. From the moment I walked in the door I felt unwelcome. The elderly man at the counter had an attitude for no apparent reason. Ended up going somewhere else. I'll never return here and if I could I would give it 0 stars. read more
