Needless to say the trainers here as well as their support team are incredibly helpful and I feel my personal trainers really really care about me. I have been doing Pilates for 10 years and I have found that Anna Clark, The owner of the studio, it's a Pilates master as well as a yoga master. I love having the option of switching up my work out intention to places that the Pilates discipline addresses and the other discipline addresses. I have very bad asthma and have not been able to work out and most commercial studios. The air is so clean here and The studio is brand new and the function we of the place is very inspiring. And I can breathe easily here even during Covid when I have to wear a mask. I feel very safe here as they are constantly cleaning an air purifiers and UV lights are everywhere. This is one place where you can be sure you won't get sick and you'll stay on your game with the help and support them all the wonderful people who work here.

As an instructor who rents from Abby Stowe Pilates I would highly recommend this studio. My…read moreexperience with this studio and with Abby herself has been nothing but great and I've been with Abby Stowe Pilates for going on 8 years. As a sole proprietor this is very important to me. Any client I bring in is impressed with how great the space looks, the breadth of equipment that is available and the friendly, no drama environment. As a renter this is one of the best environments I've ever worked with. I have had previous experiences at other rental studios where this was not the case, and it negatively impacted my business. But at Abby's studio everything is easy and well done. You can see how Abby really puts care into her studio. I really appreciate how Abby is very responsive to my needs and any needs I have for my clients ( this place was top notch during the pandemic), how well the equipment is cared for ( very important to me as a pilates instructor) and how easy it is to book space ( very important to me as business owner). This has been exactly what I need as a renter who is a Private Pilates Instructor and a Trainer working to grow my business in NYC. I'd book now before it fills up

I first became acquainted with the Shinnyo Center back in 2014 when after reading 10% Happier* by Dan Harris (renowned journalist), he would be making an appearance (along with other notable personalities) at the center. Shinnyo is a glorious Eastern/Buddhist temple/center oasis tucked away in the heart of the garment district. Its main focus is everything related to meditation and benefits. After meeting Dan Harris, I was intrigued with the center, what they offered & its principles. There's self guided meditation (sit in the temple on your own to meditate), guided meditation for nominal fee, special meditation workshops such as jazz (done it and cool!) and matcha meditation (on my list whereupon it includes meditation but also incorporates a matcha tea ceremony). The special workshops are fee based. For a great introduction to Shinnyo, check out Groupon for package deal specials---10 or 20 visits promo. It's a great way to incorporate meditation in your life. An added incentive to check it out is for the first week in January, (through January 6th), the center is offering free guided meditation sessions so visit their website for days/times. I can't speak highly enough of the Shinnyo Center. The entire staff is so welcoming and I am confident anyone who visits will walk out feeling positive and relaxed. I'm looking to become more of a regular in 2018. *this amazing autobiography outlines how a fidgety journalist (Dan Harris) experienced an on air panic attack years ago and then discovered the benefits of meditation. Highly recommend.

I have never done yoga and while I was interested and curious about meditation, I never committed to anything beyond an app. My wife did YogaCare's FULL CIRCLE program and was so impressed by her experience that she booked me into their URBAN MEDITATION RETREAT and essentially commanded that I was doing this. I am a cynical sarcastic person, and had a worry that this would be slow torture as I'd been sent 'under duress' -- I couldn't have been more wrong. What Candice and Ulises have built is a truly warm and welcoming community. One where a complete (out of shape and sedentary) novice like me felt absolutely comfortable and all doubt evaporated in seconds. This three-day experience was absolutely invigorating and eye-opening. Ulises' approach to meditation is grounded in the "real" world without sacrificing a profound sense of the spiritual. His openness and encouragement made the three days resonate and they continue to. All of this is done with no dogmatic right or wrong -- it is all presented with a 'just try it' sense that made it inclusive and all the more impactful. Our group was made up of a newbies like me, as well as a number of returning students -- they shared the same kind and open tone that Candice set. Over the course of the retreat, we did all manner of breathing exercises, deep meditation and some yoga movement. While the movement was wildly uncharted territory, I remained open and thoroughly appreciated it. A highlight for me was after a morning session of breathing and meditation, Ulises led us down Fulton Street to the bustling South Street Seaport to see if we could maintain a meditative consciousness while surrounded by the relentless chaos of New York City. If there is any proof needed of the value of the practice -- this was it. I have returned to Yoga Care for a number of weeks now to do their breathing and meditation workshops and am beyond grateful for my 'forced' weekend in their kind care and have been inspired to make meditation part of my life as I've already begun to see the results.

I came here after work on a Friday evening and was excited to embark on a 90 minute yoga journey. The studio itself is nice, spacious, and clean. They also have yoga wear, books, CDs, and water bottles for sale. I like the space, but not my instructor. I haven't been to Bikram in some time (about 4 months) and the day before I ran 9 miles, so I knew I was going to have a difficult session. Running stiffens your muscles and makes it hard to stretch and to get into certain poses. As soon as my friend and I started the session, the yoga instructor continued to badger us until to the end. Ninety minutes of a stressful and non-yoga like atmosphere. Bikram Choudhury would have been very upset. The philosophy is to do what you can. Yoga is your time to reflect, meditate and to concentrate on yourself. This instructor did not get that. Halfway through the session, I was not able to get into the wheelbarrow pose. This is an extremely hard pose for runners. She kept pushing and and wouldn't just allow me to do what I was capable of. So I had no choice but to annouce that I ran 9 miles the day before and I am not going to push myself and injure my muscles. She then started to question me, "Is that a marathon?" I replied, "No. Thirteen point one miles is a half." And she wouldn't drop it. Her next retort, "well, you can see how running is so damaging to the body." I have no idea why we needed to have this discussion during a yoga session. I am sure other yogis were annoyed. But after that, she backed off. I really enjoy Bikram. It helps to loosen my muscles before and after running. But I did not like my yoga instructor. She was just too pushy. I will be back to give it another try and avoid this instructor.
