Dining Room

Loved this B&B! The house was an old manor home from the early 1900's. Each guest room had a theme. My room was the Victorian Room. It was beautifully decorated, cozy and had its own private bathroom. Although the B&B was styled with old furnishings, it did still have modern conveniences such as an air conditioner, TV, device charging outlet, and a bathroom with modern fixtures. I liked that I was not lacking in modern convenience but still felt like I was visiting great grandma's house. The door had an antique lock with a skeleton key which was cool. I must admit, the lock was a challenge and not as easy to use as I had expected. I did practice with the lock a few times before I left my room in search of dinner. The B&B has off street parking which I liked. Parking at B&B is always a concern for me. Many times the facility does not have enough parking for the available units. That was not the case at this B&B. I only stayed for one night and had an early departure which made it impossible for me to be available when breakfast was served. Breakfast was served between 8am and 10am. I told the proprietor this was not a problem but she was kind enough to have the cook prepare an early breakfast for me. The extra effort and hospitality was greatly appreciated. Know before you go: The B&B uses a self check-in process. I reserved my room online using a hotel booking site. The online site reserves rooms by the type of bed in the room. The B&B reserves rooms by the name of the room. This made it harder when I did the self check-in because my confirmation did not indicate the name of the room, only that I had reserved a room with a queen sized bed. Everything was resolved without issue once I spoke to the proprietor but this is something guests should know before arriving.

Beautiful, unique bed and breakfast. The rooms are clean and private. No one is actually onsite but the house is entertainment in and of itself! Many pieces to examine - the history of the home is excellently maintained. There is a shared kitchen that is stocked with everything you need (bacon, eggs, butter, milk etc) as well as all the expected amenities for a continental breakfast. The back patio is spread out and the perfect spot for coffee. It's approx a 25 min drove to Falling Water, 50 min to Confluence. This was a tad farther than I thought when booking, but the home was worth it. Only drawback was the chimes that went off every fifteen minutes starting at 6 am!

Butch and Shirley love the house just as much as we did, and you could tell they were thrilled to be able to share the gorgeous historical time capsule that is the Montgomery Mansion with others. OK... I CANNOT say enough praise about the Hartzell House Bed and Breakfast. This place is amazing!…read moreKitty and David are absolutely THE BEST hosts. My two sisters and I (and our significant others) came to celebrate a milestone birthday and were beyond impressed with this place. The ambiance is fantastic! The courtyard is beautiful as well as the patio in the back. The decorating that Kitty has done throughout the inside of the house is really beautiful. And as David says, "We want to concentrate on two things: The bed, and the breakfast." And that is exactly what they have done here. Each evening, David will come to offer your breakfast choices for the following morning. And it's not just bacon and eggs people... these are GOURMET offerings all made fresh on site using fresh ingredients. We had a choice of a peach cobbler oatmeal that had peaches from the tree in the backyard even and it was delicious! There was also one addition that just made my stay even more superb... a little dog named "Jack" and he is the most precious (smiling) doggie that I have ever seen! So stinkin' CUTE! Anyway... if you are ever in the area (checking out Frank Lloyd Wright's work) you should definitely give this place a shot. They are phenomenal! Thank you David and Kitty! I hope we get to come back again soon. :)

I had some mechanical issues with my bike, and Adele even offered to drive halfway to Pittsburgh to pick me up. I would recommend Adele and her husband Dan as a trust-worthy resource to any solo females like myself traveling the GAP. The breakfast and snacks were wonderful and the price was very reasonable. Wonderful experience.

You are hot and tired after cycling a 50-mile segment on the Great Allegheny Passage. From the GAP…read moretrail, you slog up a steep side road, cut over the bridge into town, and spot the welcoming porch awnings of Adele's B&B. A knock on the door is quickly answered with a hearty "welcome". Your BNB co-host Dan secures your bikes and helps usher you inside. Here you meet Christine, legacy Owner, Smithton's Mayor, and Family and Town historian. Cool water and fresh veggies from the garden greet your arrival in the 1st-floor bar/museum of Smithton and Christine's proud family heritage. The conversation weaves between checking in on your needs and particulars, and the long connection this place and family hold in hosting patrons and guests. Upstairs you will find a spacious apartment and rooms with accessibility to a huge porch overlooking the town (Christine recommended eating at Dale's Place and you spot it down the street. Believe the reviews: Fantastic food and drink). A/C and a super comfy bed provide a restorative recharge. Breakfast should not be skipped! Tomatoes from the garden, asparagus & feta omelet, locally sourced fruit (those peaches!), bread, and jams, stream from Dan's kitchen as Christine provides additional commentary on Smithton's past and present. Now fueled with food and memories, Dan brings your secured bike to the front door. A handshake to Dan, a new friend hug from Christine, and you are on your way. Absolutely memorable. A trip highlight. Great people make great places. Thank you Dan and Christine!

Looking around for some interesting and fun options we stumbled upon this B&B and decided to call to see if there were any openings. We were in luck! We quickly gave them some information and made our way down there. Upon our entry we were greeted warmly by Liberty the proprietor. She was wonderful and made check in super easy. I made myself some tea, helped myself to some gingersnap cookies, and got settled in for the night. The room was spacious and comfortable. The shower had a never ending (or so it seemed) supply of hot water and there was more than enough towels. I quickly felt at easy in the room and knew I would be getting a good nights rest. Breakfast, Liberty informed us, was held at two times, 7:30 and 9am. We picked to have ours early, which I was against, but it turned out wonderful. We got to eat a nice early breakfast and then went back to bed! Check out was at 11 so we got a few more hours of relaxing in before we hit the hiking trails. Yes, a late start, but the bed was too comfortable to leave! Breakfast was delicious. Scrambled eggs, french toast, sausage, and a fruit cup. They had orange juice, coffee, and tea. What a treat! The food was perfect. I could not ask for a better breakfast. This place was perfect. I would stay here again in a second. It was also so close to the attractions of Ohiopyle that it would be stupid not to suggest everyone to stay here!

About 5 minutes from falling water, 20 minutes from kentuck knob, 10 minutes from the windmills across from the stone quarry (worth a gander!) and I dunno. 10 minutes from Ohiopyle park? VERY close to everything!!!

Make the Alpine Retreat your Destination at Seven Springs…read more ....use the resort for skiing and save the $$$$. Location. You can walk to Seven Springs Mountain Resort from Alpine Retreat. Parking is easy in and easy out, I recommend in heavy winter and tough seasons to contact the host to make sure all roadways are safe if you don't have 4 wheel drive. Alpine Retreat. A home more comfortable than home. It is warm and cozy and inviting. The two fireplaces are fully stocked with wood, the fridge is stocked with all necessities and extra beverages and food (in case you lack preparation... such as I). Also everything is labeled so you don't have to search to find anything in the kitchen or throughout the house. There is firewood well stocked, with an outdoor firepit for cooking and relaxing. Underneath an outdoor deck that can host a large group, with a grill and bar, sits a six-person jacuzzi with bluetooth connection. There is ample land to enjoy lawn games and a good game of catch. Lastly, there is a basement cove with a bar that would make for a good night cap after the hot tub cover goes back on. Our Experience. Our host picked us up some craft Sam Adams beer and made us dinner. I don't want to promise that this exception is made for all the guests, but I have never been better received by a host in any hotel or inn I have ever stayed. We had a massage therapist come for a traveling massage from Body in Balance Healing Center. $100 for an hour (excluding gratuity) was so much cheaper and personalized than the overpriced spa at Seven Springs. I slept like a rock, but I did bike (not very well) quite a distance before my stay. The sheets were fresh and clean and everything was spotless in the house. We were encouraged to eat the food, use the washer/dryer and put our feet up... which we did so well. Overall. Buy the ticket, take the ride. You won't have a better host, I would lay money on that. The house is cozy and inviting and I will be heading back there at the next opportunity. Thanks again!

Polk as well as other national and foreign leaders. Since 1945 the inn has been owned by the Harrington family. Unfortunately, in 2015 a fire gutted the interior of the inn, but in the next 2.5 years, a team of architects and specialist builders rebuilt the inn. The Inn contains seven guest rooms, each of which has a private bathroom and gas fireplace and includes breakfast. Rates vary by room but are roughly a couple hundred dollars per night. My husband and I did not stay in a room here, but we did eat dinner here. I had to make the reservation via a phone call. Perhaps the restaurant could start online reservations or do phone-call reminders. Please note that meals currently include dinner on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays and brunch on Sundays. When my husband and I arrived at the inn, we parked our vehicle in a small parking lot across the street. The time was 7:30 PM in the winter, so the exterior of the inn looked dark but still beautiful. In the entrance a seating hostess kindly greeted us and seated us at a table in the garden room. The inn contained some other nicely decorated dining rooms, which I later explored. The inn looked so historically accurate that I would never have guessed that a fire had occurred. I appreciated seeing the original stones on some walls, a fireplace, and the floor, which had been worn low after hundreds of years of thousands of people walking on it. I felt very interested in seeing the interior design, oil paintings, and Christmas decor. I rate the setting as 5 stars. I also rate the service as 5 stars. Our waitress promptly served us and spoke nicely with us. The menu had sections for Beginning (Cheese and Charcuterie, Duck Confit, Giardiniera, and Escargot), In Between (Century Inn Greens, Spinach Salad, Peanut Soup, and Daily Soup), and Main (Fettuccini, Crabcakes, Pork Tenderloin, Coulette Steak, and Airline Chicken Breast). Another customer had to ask the waitress if foods were gluten-free, so I recommend that the restaurant add that nutritional information to the menu. Separate menus listed desserts, beers, wines, and scotches. Here are my ratings for what my husband and I ate: Cheese & Charcuterie - 4.5 stars - This starter platter contained two meats, two cheeses, blueberries, strawberries, raisins, and warm bread. Peanut Soup - 4.5 stars - I ordered a cup rather than a bowl, and it was still a good size. I rarely eat peanut soup, but I enjoyed its flavors. Spinach Salad - 4.5 stars - This salad contained spinach, dried cranberries, walnuts, feta, and champagne vinaigrette. Crab cakes - 5 stars - Three small-medium crab cakes were very meaty and tasted delicious. The sides were asparagus and spicy red-pepper couscous. Airline Chicken Breast - 3 stars - My husband ate this entree of chicken with Chardonnay-leek sauce, and I tasted one bite of it. He described it as "plain," and I agree that it needed more flavor. Its sides were sour zucchini and a delicious wild rice. We skipped desserts and drinks. The total price was $101 plus tax and tip. (For our main courses, our receipt says different prices than does the online menu. The restaurant should fix that discrepancy.)
