It turns out that they rarely fail and it isn't normally a stock item by itself. Nevertheless, they took one that was bundled with a tank kit they had in stock and reordered the part so that they could sell it to me one that day. The person at the counter also explained some wiring differences between the new part and the one I brought in to show them. He brought out a furnace controller they had in stock so that he could point out exactly where this replacement would need to draw its power; since the replacement needed an external power supply and the original did not. Before they sold me this $70 part, they had made a phone call to a distributor and talked with a few of the trades people who were in getting parts for their own jobs that day, since the part I brought in was in some ways non-standard, and they wanted to be sure that I would succeed when I put the replacement in. The information they got and gave me was exactly what I needed and I succeeded with it.
