Please! Forget everything you know about ordinary chai! This is so not Starbucks!!!!! Soundra Chai's drinks and food are an art form and according to the lovely owner... her LOVE LANGUAGE! Right now I'm sipping on some hot Banarasi chai with the most magical rose and ginger notes... I'm pretty sure I'm addicted! I tried the "Old School Chai" yesterday and it was also delicious, and sweetened with authentic jaggery! I didn't even know what jaggery was but I know I love it! I'm planning on working through the entire menu so today I had the filtered coffee with added cream on top. Oh my God, it was sublime! Okay so now about the food ... so far I've had my last several meals there cause it's so good and right up the street from me. I've had the first four things on the breakfast menu... They're these delicate little flavorful sandwiches that are grilled and filled with magic! I know I'm getting corny here but I'm telling you, they may not look like more than a grilled cheese on the outside but inside, the flavours come through in the most comforting way! The four I've had were the Kolkata egg, the Keera cucumber, the Truffle Chili Cheese and the Farmers Jam. Lol, and for dinner last night I had the super yummy Smashed Samosa chaat and the Kale Pakora, so delicately coated with chickpea batter and fried to perfection. LOVE! LOVE!!! Soundra has an extensive menu and lucky for me and North Austin, they've moved up north to the little (growing) food trailer court by the Texan Market at Adelphi and Amherst, one block south of Parmer!!! All the trailers are tucked under the shade and they're adding more picnic tables now. There's plenty of parking and you can run into the store if you want wine or beer etc! How great is that? Get your butt over there and give Soundra Chai a try. Trust me... you'll be back!!! (PS my pictures don't do justice!) read more
