This is my least favorite SoulCycle studio, from the layout to the size of the overall bathrooms. The entire studio is really only one main floor, with ample lockers. I didn't love that the showers were quite limited, with only 2 regular showers and 1 handicap. I felt like I had to rush out of class early, before the stretching, to secure a shower. The changing area is quite tight as well and the also limited bathroom stalls (only 2) are a bit dingy. The staff does a good job keeping the facilities clean, however I felt that the studio itself needs renovations. The layout of the bike studio itself is a bit weird and the room was pretty musky prior. The bikes also felt a bit older, as my bike handles were pretty worn. I took a T. Swift x Latino Artist ride and the playlist was just ok. I can see how people may say that SoulCycle is a bit culty - the instructor knew people's names in the front row and this class was really strong and ON IT!! It was definitely motivating. Overall, this location probably won't be in my rotation, however it was nice to try a new studio! The NoMad location still has my heart. read more

It was our first time at this location and the girls in the front desk was super helpful in getting us acquainted with the studio. This is probably my favorite SoulCycle location in the city, aside from E 83rd St. This is their company HQ's which explains why it's so massive and always busy (but all of their locations are always busy). The have two actual studios here with bikes, one upstairs and one downstairs. The area with lockers here is really big so you're not crowded and on top of each other which is major. Also, all the lockers come with locks so you don't need to bring your own (like the rest of their locations). They also have women's and men's bathrooms and showers both upstairs and downstairs which is really efficient. I have seen better bathrooms at other soul studios which are a bit more spacious and condusive to getting ready after you shower, but these are still pretty good. I typically come here in the morning and ride in Lily's class who is great and teaches a really hard yet fun class. Since it is the morning, a lot of people shower and get ready here afterwards, myself included, for work, so it does get busy. Front desk needs to check their attitude. Throw the whole team away. Our instructor was fantastic but the experience was totally ruined by the unprofessionalism and unwelcoming vibes the moment you stepped in. They were aggressive, rude and nasty. We hosted a private event for industry friends and our clients. I was embarrassed by the way they treated my team and our guests. To top it off, after the ride we heard from our guests that front desk made really offensive remarks about us as they checked them in for our event. They even turned away other guests (including potential clients) that didn't arrive a bit earlier but still on time. This puzzles me because our class started late! There was plenty of time for them to come ride with us. After all, we rented out the ENTIRE session. I have been to many of their other locations as well as other cycling studios and this is by far the worst experience ever I've ever had. Tldr; front desk's unpleasant interaction ruined our private event. Avoid this location at all costs. read more

Well, I'm officially part of the infamous SoulCycle cult, guys. Kidding. I really don't see myself regularly spinning as part of my workout routine. $35--even $20 for first-timers--is a lot of money to spend for a single workout class; I'm a firm believer that exercise shouldn't--excuse the pun--cost an arm and a leg. There were days when I'd go on their website and stop after I hit the "reserve" button and choose a seat--that's as far as I could go. When I found out my company was offering free rides for the entire month of April at SC Tribeca, I dropped to my knees and praised the poster. Sadly, I couldn't take full advantage of it and only went once but I originally signed up for a class at the Tribeca location and I actually arrived a little late (I mean, it's Sunday morning and we were limited to certain classes). The nice guy at that location offered to give me a credit for that class and signed me up for the next available class at this location. This location was in a much quieter area and the location itself was rather calm--that is, at those times when waves of chicks were let out of their classes, then it gets all chit-chatty and overwhelming. I love that they have the digital lockers and I didn't need to bring my own--less weight on you. I took Jaidus' class and lucky for me, there were only 3 other people in the class, so he was able to focus more on me, being a first-timer. The nice gentleman staff member who helped set me up was so helpful and kind, adjusting my bike and making me feel welcomed as a newbie. Now, onto the class...Jaidus was VERY patient with me. I really expected a full attendance and a lot of judging from cyclers. Luckily, there was none of that and everyone seemed to be focused on themselves. The music was upbeat and fun and the workout synced perfectly with each track. The resistance knob was a little annoying to adjust and if you don't know which way to turn, it can be difficult for you to keep up. The intervals and intensity levels are there, and you will also use weights (though I wish they were a little heavier). What I was really not prepared for was those cycling shoes--I had no idea those damn things click onto the pedal and they were hard to pull off! And all this time, I thought SC's bikes were just like regular gym bikes with straps on the medals, so I figured my sneakers would suffice. These thing felt like tap dancing shoes. So, for 45 minutes, my feet were stuck, which is unusual for me since I normally take classes that require a lot of feet movement. I think I get the appeal of SC--from its clever marketing and branding, the inviting atmosphere, the attention to detail, to the active role played in the community they have built--I say they've thrived in all those aspects. I think the class was great--I was dripping sweat and my hips were burning within an hour after the workout and thankfully, I wasn't shamed for having the wrong form. Jaidus gave me some pointers and made me feel really proud of my workout and I definitely recommend him as an instructor. Other than that, I don't think spinning is really my forte and I can't justify spending that much on a single class but if you can overlook that, you may like it a lot. read more

First time cycling ever! I have to admit, I was a bit apprehensive about soul cycle. I have heard horror stories about people passing out during the work out. A friend warned me that I should eat chocolate prior. I usually do not work out, so I was careful to hydrate and have a orange an hour before. The locker room comes with their own locks and is shiny white and clean. The staff was amazingly helpful and friendly. They helped us set up, lock in, and showed us how to use the bikes. For this location: the first time you ride the shoes are free and you need to pay for the water ($2/bottle). We locked in and most people starting cycling prior. The instructor came in. He was jovial, charismatic and very happy. We had an amazing time! Music with good beats, and Zack was an great motivator. He danced, whooped, and sweated with us. And although I was panting like a dog and looked like I walked through a partial rainstorm, it was was well worth it. And the euphoria you feel after running? Its definitely reproducible after cycling in a shorter time. Despite the high sticker price at 34/class, I might come back if I can find a discount. read more

So i came here because my friends are obsessed with soulcycle and has been hyping it up since last year so i thought why not come and see what the hype is about. Ive cycled with a different cyclebar before so i knew what to expect but man, this experience was not good. 1st off, you would think that because you're paying basically $40 that you should be getting a great quality work out right? Nope. The room was disgustingly humid with barely any light so you couldn't see what you were doing (ie: adjusting the seat or where you were seating). And my seat was legit next to mirror that blocked off my view of the whole studio besides the bike in front of me. Very disappointing. I couldnt see my instructor and couldnt hear her either because the speaker is right in front the back where i was so all i hear is the music and not her. It's not like the price goes up the better the seat is like broadway. What a rip off. 2nd the instructor was not giving her all today. My friends who've taken her class before even said the instructor was not doing her best today. The instructor just basically told us what to do every 5-10 minutes while she just stood on that stage. The people who work there also just hung around each other and didnt help me out even when it was my first time with soul. Anyways, maybe i'll give it another try with a different bike and a different instructor, but this was not worth it to come to the city to get a "better" instructor but ended up being worst than any instructor i have ever had. It sucks too that you have to pay for water and shoes too.. man, soulcycle really just runs you for your money. Yikes read more

I went in expecting something entirely different, but from start to finish I experienced great customer service!! I arrived early and they answered all of my questions. I was a newbie to soulcycle. I like how the entire place is designed and how clean it is including the bathroom. I like how they provide you with lockers and a lock (a digital code lock). The class itself was great. It took me awhile to figure out how to clip my shoes in and out of the bike. Andi, the instructor was a pumped up zumba/ aerobic teacher (she was super hyper). The music playlist and her energy that she chose gave me motivation to finish the class. My feet may have flown out of my shoes here and there, but I heard that's the norm for a first timer. Afterwards, I felt like the energizer bunny! I would definitely go back to one of the other soulcycle classes. The only reason, I give it four stars is the price. I went because my friend had a promotional deal. She can bring anyone who is a new registered soulcycle client for free. Not sure if I would pay $37 dollars per class. read more

Now I see why people are so obsessed with SoulCycle! I love going to spin, and usually go to Swerve (since it's near work). Obviously I don't live under a rock so I've been hearing about the magic of SoulCycle for quite a while now..I had a few extra in my budget last week and thought why not?! It's $33 for your first two classes which is a steal considering that is usually the price of one. I always prefer trying new classes on Saturdays so I can have some time to find the place, get settled etc. It was east to get to and the building was buzzing as soon as you enter. Kind of a small entry space, and not much room to change, but that didn't bother me at all - it may have if I'd had to change, but I only needed to switch out my shoes. The best part about SoulCycle - IMO - was the vibe and attitude given off by the staff and even by fellow riders! I can't stress enough how welcoming everyone was, and how engaging and high energy the instructor - Bevin - was as well. She was super helpful the entire time and made me feel comfortable as a first timer. Not to mention the class was intense AF in the best way possible. I'll definitely be taking classes here again!! read more

I wrote a post couple of days ago but somehow it went to "Not Recommended". So here goes again, because as a consumer I think it is important to speak up. I will always have a soft spot for SoulCycle. I think it is a great workout and I have gotten stronger physically, lost weight, and it's strengthened my cardio health. I also like it a lot to clear my head when I have stress. I have taken friends, family, colleagues, and clients to classes over past 3 years. I think I have taken classes with about 15 NYC instructors, plus about 50 instructor trainees from throughout the US and Canada (for their community rides). I have enjoyed all my rides with all those instructors, except two. Two instructors were rude. One took out of my hands my 5 pound weights because she presumed I should use 3 pound weights for a SoulActivate class. Another instructor got into my face in a menacing manner, told me I am pedaling too fast without enough resistance (she did not ask me how many turns I had on my wheel; possibly I had enough or more than enough turns), and kicker is, she threatened to watch me during class to make sure I am following her directive. Two different instructors have taught their classes with less resistance on fast runs on the bike. Also, there is nothing on SoulCycle web site that advises how many turns on wheel is safe to prevent injuries. So I am baffled why these 2 instructors were convinced I was pedaling too fast? We can sense when someone is advising out of care for our safety. I truly felt that was not the case with these 2 instructors. An example is Akin Akman. I have never felt he imposed his ego to direct me to use different weights or increase resistance. It has always seemed to come from a place of caring, as an instructor. I was appalled and stunned these 2 instructors were dogmatic bullies. As a consumer I will be seeking my workouts in a positive environment. read more

I saw some negative reviews on the facilities, but I have to say, they were fine. What wasn't fine was that I went out in Meatpacking with the brunchy bunch prior to my spin sesh (when will I learn?). A little birdy told me that someone (cough cough ...me) got a wee bit too boozy at brunch #YOLO #BoozyBrunch #WeekendWarrior #WorkHardPlayHard #NotUpInHere #ButAllUpInHere. Needless to say it was totes struggs from the first minute on. The eye candy and instructor were pleasant, but my stomach wasn't. Lobster Sliders with Sautéed Potatoes and bottomless Mimosas are two words- "De Lish", but they aren't Wheaties and Gatorade (duhhhh lolz). I spent a vast majority of my time in the facilities (and I don't mean the cycle room lol). While I'm sure my glutes would have loved the workout (gotta stay toned), my review is primarily for the establishment, which was very clean. The bathroom, where I spent most of my time...whoops!, was very well maintained, even though I wasn't. I would tooooootally come back here in a much better condition to actually enjoy the class. I mean, I didn't buy my cute lululemon sweats and slim fit nike shirt for nothing... wooo wooo #WorkoutLife #LookThePartBeTheParty. Anyways look for my follow-up soon. NOT FOR CYCLISTS despite using Delta Cleats. Listen, this is Soul Cycle, not spin class. Think of it more like aerobics on a bicycle than cycling with upper body mixed in. The instructors are awesome and super motivated. I had Erin who was super excited to be teaching and her music selection was awesome. You start with a warm-up (no surprise) and then you get a little climb to get your heart rate up. Next thing you know you're doing pushups on the handlebars, twisting, and who knows what else. You wind up peddling in sync to keep up with the upper body work. Most of the time is spent out of the saddle and watching other classmates waddle back and forth with poor cycling form. I get it... this is aerobics class with a twist. This is not spin class with a twist. Probably could do the same thing on a treadmill except people would be tripping and falling all over the place. LOL I had a great workout, the facilities are super clean, no stench, and the staff are very friendly. Three stars because it is less cycling and more aerobics. Just keeping people informed. read more

The 1 star was for the instructor who let me in her community ride or else the crappy place would receive a zero.Went here with an instructor friend of mine from a proper cycling studio,was not greeted by the out of shape front desk.In fact the girl at the desk spent about 2 minutes doodling on a piece of paper in front of us.Not once did she look up even as we noticed her doodling. The studio..quite clean,and sufficient. The class- AWFUL...There were no intervals,drills,or hell even any saddle work which (for people who want to be challenged)is a big part of cycling.In fact,the place didn't live up to the overpriced hype.You call the people who attend"athletes" but the instructor nor the people attending the class were aware that the fast weight movements or endless out of the saddle work,were not proper athletic movements.I am not sure why anyone with any sense,athletic ability or will to change and challenge their body would attend this "dance party filled with corny affirmations".How can you have fast weight movements,seems a bit unsafe!!!! If you want me to buy into the hype...get the rude front desk and out of shape staff out the door.I will continue attending the cycle studio I attend and the difficult classes at Reebok...Google Jason Tran and Kira Stokes! read more

I came here for a charity ride, and the staff were really beyond nice and helpful. Very bright and clean facilities, so I can definitely see how people get "addicted" to the workout and the atmosphere. The 45 min disappeared *like that*, but as a first-timer to any spin class, I was a little concerned about having proper form for all the intense moves we were doing (pushups on our bike handles?!). The instructor was really encouraging and gave us some tips, but I still felt like if you didn't know what you were doing (like me!) or not in shape, you could definitely hurt yourself. However, it is a fun workout that is probably more effective than a yoga class and Zumba class combined. I'll definitely come again and maybe try another location as my budget allows! read more

My company set up a group outing at this SoulCycle location, which was well-organized and a great time. The staff was super friendly and helpful in setting up our bikes. Our company arranged free water, shoe rentals, and post-workout Liquiteria, which was an awesome perk. The class was fun and not too hard to keep up with, but my bike was not set up well for my body, and I spent most of the class distracted by it (being unable to snap out of my pedals and adjust myself, since I'm a SC amateur). I've done other cycling classes where I did not have this problem. I loved the music choices during class and the dumbbell work, and the opportunity to borrow cycling shoes, which made this class much easier than classes I've done in my regular sneakers. I'm glad that I was able to try out SoulCycle. I consider myself a relatively fit person, and I've tried a lot of different kinds of group and individual fitness including kickboxing, yoga, Pilates reformer, and personal training. At no fault of SoulCycle, I have to say that cycling is my least favorite, and I won't be back. But now I understand the enthusiasm for the SC culture, and can appreciate it a little bit more. :) read more

I have to say I was a bit intimidated before my first Soul Cycle session. I had been to plenty of spin classes, but a friend told me, "Oh, in LA, they're really nice, but everyone knows they're really mean in the NY classes!' Now I am almost done with my 10 classes in 10 days challenge and, thankfully, I haven't encountered a single mean person. The classes can be challenging and the instructors will push you to do your best, but you're not there for the scenery. And, honestly, the staff here is probably the nicest of any place I've visited here in the city. I mean, I just joined less than two weeks ago and the front desk staff has been greeting me by name almost from the first day. Where else does that happen? Folks like Rachel, Marissa, and Rachel really help Soul Cycle put its best foot forward at the front desk by being so friendly and helpful! The staff also makes sure you are comfortable on the bike for your first class. They go over the basics and let the instructor know there's a newbie in the crowd. As for the classes, it really is a great workout. The instructors do an excellent job of motivating the riders and ensuring a pretty full workout. You're up and down, doing presses on the handlebars, and weights are incorporated into each class. At the end of the class, you are drenched and you feel like you really worked out. A few of the standout instructors were Joyce, Kristen, and String. I would say String's classes were the hardest, which was a good thing. During the class, the instructors will often use positive, motivational language. This helps you push hard and keep going. I have to say I did get a chuckle in one class where the instructor urged us to ride for ourselves, our families, friends, our city, our nation, and the world. I could see how I could benefit from the class and maybe even my family, but I still can't figure out how the world would be a better place after 45 minutes on the bike. Oh well, it was a good workout anyway. Most of us belong to gyms that have spin classes, so what's the difference? Well, you can get a good class at the gym, but you can also get a pretty bad class. The Soul Cycle instructors seem to be very solid and excellent at running a good class. Also, the bikes are well maintained. That's not always the case elsewhere, as someone who's had a pedal fall off at the gym can tell you. There's also a crew running in after every class to clean the bikes and set it up for the next class. Now that I am just about done with my challenge, I'm glad I did it and sad that I will probably go down to a few classes a month. At $30+ a class, it's pricey. Yes, if you buy more, the price goes down, but not too much. I was surprised to learn that some people pay almost double the price per class to get first dibs on reservations. I think that's the 2016 equivalent of lighting your cigars with $100 bills! It's expensive, but I guess that keeps all those shiny, happy people in yellow and grey shirts around! You can save money by bringing water and your own bike shoes, so you don't have to pay for these each time. Only one drawback at this location is that the bathroom, while super clean and well stocked, is pretty darn small. If more than two people are looking to shower and change, it's tight. I'm really glad I signed up for 11 days. It has helped me stay on track over the holidays and jump start my New Year's fitness goals. Thanks, Soul Cycle! read more

For months, I heard people rave about SoulCycle. For months, I rolled my eyes and wondered why the hell anyone would spend $34 a class to sweat. My very first class was with lauren brucker, and since then, it's taken control of my SOUL. Lit by candelight, SC is 45 minutes of an intense full-body cardio party. It never feels like working out to me, it's just fun. The teachers will kick your ass, but they will motivate the hell out of you. I can't count how many times I've had a bad day and had it all melt away on a SC bike thanks to Kym, Christina P., Mary R., and so many others. The new WVLG location is gorgeous. Staff is friendly. If it's your first time: come early to get set up, take advantage of the newcomer special, & don't sit in the front. Bottom line: go, go, go, go. Worth every penny. Edit: I actually wrote an additional review about the waitlist policy after I missed a phone call during a meeting & was told that I missed my chance to get a bike. However, it looks like this has changed as I've missed a few more phone calls & they've scheduled me for the classes anyway! Go SC! read more

The staff here is disgusting. Upon arrival they were dismissive and rude to me. Since this is my first spin class ever, naturally, I had some questions and took my time filling out their form. They had the audacity to roll their eyes, suck their teeth and whispered comments to each other (which I assume were about me since they swung their head in my direction before bursting out in giggles). They did not treat my friend or anyone else signing in after me the same way. I know I am not their typical clientele but I sincerely hope in 2019 we can all practice inclusivity. Management needs to reevaluate the faces of this branch and teach them basic manners. read more

The bikes are immaculate and modern, and there isn't bad seat in the house (even in the back, you can choose to be elevated and near a fan). First time at any Soul Cycle and the staff was so welcoming and gracious! I signed in. Hair ties. Ear plugs. Check! I forgot my water and they gave me a bottle, double CHECK! The lockers also have a keypad on it so that you don't need to bring your own lock. It's all in the details and it certainly shows here and I'd say it's worth the mark up. Note, there are instructions inside the lock in case you forget how to set it ... The class itself was SO fun! I had Christina (I think). She had on Beyonce bike pants and bejeweled spin shoes! Her music was off the hook and the class was super interactive - like we used two one pound weights, we did chest presses against the bike, we moved our booties...it was FUN moving to the music. The class is big too - there were probably a good 60 people in there so yes, it does feel like a sauna in there, even with the AC and fans on. Oh and it was someone's 30th birthday and the staff brought in a bottle of champagne with sparklers on it - who wouldn't want champagne after a hardcore spin class?! I thought that was really nice. Aside from my foot cramping and not being able to un-clip myself from the bike, I had a great time and hope to be back soon. read more

She starts slow and emphasizes on the music, Very good work out in all. You have to take her classes. The shower room is bit too small bare enough for couple of people to stand and change. I knew nothing about spin so there was a soul cycle team member there to help me adjust my bike & the basics. The facility is sparkling clean and thank god does not smell like sweaty anything! Some instructors are better than others (Wayne & Charlee are super fun, hard, tons of dance/hip hop beats) and 45 mins fly by.
