So heres the deal. I was REALLY excited about going to Soul Kitchen last night for the first time to see Drivin N Cryin. I have always heard so much about the venue and as my husband and I love live music, we knew Soul Kitchen was on our to do list. We showed up about an hour early because we weren't sure about how crowded it would be. Turned out there was all over 30 people there. So I had extra time to take in the atmosphere and service. There was a bar area right in the front before you get to the main stage area. This is where we hung out until the show started. The drinks are expensive. Stupid expensive. $5 a beer. I didn't even wanna know how much their mixed drinks cost. I made the mistake of going to the bathroom because guys, it was filthy. I am all for a dive bar/music venue and I have been to a lot of music festivals. But let me tell you, I would rather use the bathroom at Wanee Festival than use the bathroom at Soul Kitchen again. There is a thick layer of dust on EVERYTHING. It has so much potential but I would honestly hate to see that place with the lights on in the daytime. The bartenders were all nice and friendly. I really can't complain about the service. The main music area is a great layout. The lighting fixtures are vintage and gorgeous. They have that real gothic feel. The sound and music were both great. We loved the seating area they had along the side of the wall but I have to admit, I was a little hesitant about leaning against the wall it was so dark and with the lack of cleanliness. All in all, I would return to Soul Kitchen for another show. It was a fun night and the venue is really unique. But it would be awesome if it wasn't so filthy. read more

It's not as filthy as people make it out to be. You're in a bar/concert venue! What do you expect?! I saw Device when they had their first concert here. It's not my favorite venue, but I enjoyed myself. I really liked the raised seating along the wall. I was not interested in getting in the middle of the giant mosh pit. I did have two complaints about the venue: 1. The men's bathroom is only big enough for one person. That's a huge oversight at ANY bar or concert venue. 2. One of the speakers had a busted cone that rattled throughout the entire show, so that was pretty annoying. All things considered, I will return read more

Soul Music and Peruvian Tuna Tacos, the Raw and Uncooked. Flashes of Foxy cleopatra and Aretha Franklin ignite the sauce with all new levels of hotness. Dauphin street in Mobile is the stuff of legend but seriously, it could use a coat of paint or two. Don't get made at me, when your legend came to be 300 years before I was born you have to paint the walls every so often. To complete the ambiance, someone needs to hire a few overweight belly dancers for the funk and groove. This is a larger sized bar/smaller sized music venue that has some expensive beer prices. I actually got pretty bored with the show I came to watch and felt I had been drastically over charged for just a cover band. The bathroom situation here is not very good and lines quickly start to form so they really need to do a better organization and expansion of their bathrooms. It also took a really long time to get overpriced drinks at the crowded bars. I finally left after probably less than an hour as I got so frustrated with the venue and bored with the music and went to another bar with cheaper drinks and bathrooms with no lines. read more

The best place in Mobile for life music. Soul Kitchen is small enough to feel like an intimate experience, but large enough to pull in some big names. I've seen several shows here, and all are great. Bartenders are always professional and courteous. Security is amazing; always nice and respectful, but not afraid to kick someone out for getting out of hand. Overall a really great place. read more

Dope. Music. Hall. They get rappers, jam bands, indie, local, and a myriad of other genre. The doormen are chill, beer is cold, and the crowd is eclectic. Ticket prices are fair except for the "elevated riser" section. You are like 3 feet higher than the floor. Floor is good. read more

First time here and I enjoyed the smallness of the place, love watching live music and got to see it up close. The band was "the Molly Ringwalds" 80s cover music which brought back alot of memories since I grew up in the 80s. Didn't notice how dirty the place was as I was not there to have a picnic on the floor, just the live music. read more

Horrible! I was fraudulently charged $50 worth of drinks that weren't mine! The head bartender Nikki told me to contact Maggie or Brad because she couldn't take the other drinks off my tab. She advised me to message them thru messenger and to go up there the next morning if no response. Well, the phone was busy, I sent message via messenger, no response (sent Aug 27), even went back to Soul Kitchen and left my name, number & written message with a cleaning person, still no response. This place is a JOKE!! Will NEVER be back!!! If you can't understand someone's name of whose tab to charge it to, ask for ID, don't just put on someone else's tab. When closing out (after band left) the bartender with glasses and black nails even tried to give me someone else's card because he COULDN'T HEAR me. Sept 7 Maggie finally messaged me back, only to say "are you sure because our drinks are more expensive than other places". Yes Maggie, I'm sure. My friend purchased the same 2 drinks on her tab and her bill was $14, my bill was $66. I even emailed the owners, but no response. BEWARE!! They don't even try to do the right thing!!! read more

This place deserves no star but I had to put one because of over capacity.The Soul Kitchen was horrible . It was a event called Project Mardi Gras last night that started at 10 and came at 11. They had a pre sale a few days before but when we got there the line was really long and come to find out the Soul Kitchen was over capacity. If so It should of been a certain amount of tickets to sell but money hungry because they knew how many people could go in and who could not. We need our money back and will never buy a ticket from this unprofessional place again read more

This is by far the smallest venue I've ever been to but that doesn't stop them from charging you large venue ticket and beer prices. The whole facility will be packed tight, like sardines and I don't think there's a limit to how many people they'll shove inside. If you'd like to enjoy a concert and have functioning bathrooms this is not the place to go. read more

This is a filthy place. Beware if you're wearing nice shoes, they WILL get stuck to the floor and your bare foot will touch the most disgusting floor known to man. I don't even WANT to know what I stepped in. The night I went it was so crowded I kept getting pushed and shoved and the drinks were HIGH PRICED for such a nasty place. I heard this place was recently renovated........ Omg I cannot imagine what it used to be like. The only reason it doesn't get one star is because it COULD be a very cool place. Just the layout of how they can have big and small concerts is cool. But this place needs some work, needs some cleaning, and needs bartenders to realize they should have ice ready to go when the doors open for a concert. Can't complain about this joint.... Saw 311... Bar service was on point..a few people smoked which was annoying but nothing that SK should have addressed. Bathrooms are like all other concert venues.... Funky, but I don't plan on eating in there so they too were fine. All in all, great place to see a band. read more

This place is a DUMP! get a hepatitis shot before you use their washrooms!!!! GROSS!!! Somebody literally took a dump in the sink. There's not enough washrooms for the capacity. The bartenders are crap except the tall guy with a beard. Make sure you don't get the big lady she's horrible and kept copying credit card numbers down and putting them in her chest I will never return here. You could see what looks like to be the manager running around all night. Too bad he didn't have any help from people who knew what they were doing Security doesn't check the dates of ID and kids were on the floor when they shouldn't have been. They have good live bands that come. Gets a little more impressive each time! TYou can order tickets in advance online and see the schedule for shows. They only get two stars because it is always hot in there, it seems like they don't have an air conditioning system at all, or at least they don't turn it on! Don't go there unless you want to sweat to death. Also, it is always filthy. read more

My first concert here was Silverchair. I noticed that no one has posted as of recent. Also, the renovations were not totally finished by those prior posts. The main stage, about 700 sq ft, has been moved to the back and there is also a new ceiling. From the front, where the small stage/lounge area is, there is added raised seating partitioned for patrons to view the main stage from the lounge area. I recently traveled from New Orleans to attend a 5fdp concert. My wife had surgery a couple of weeks ago and was in a cast from her foot to her knee. She was using a scooter instead of crutches for her injured leg. From previous reviews on here, I was worried about conditions (ie bathroom locations, access to the seating area). I am extremely critical of customer service. The security personal were outstanding and extremely helpful. If any problems arose on the floor, they quickly took care of it. While changing bands, my wife had to use the bathroom. The floor was filled with people, so trying to get across the venue to the female bathroom would have been difficult. Security assisted her down the stairs and shut down the males bathroom for a few moments to allow her to use the restroom. While there, I went to the bar a couple of times when changing bands. I waited no longer than three to four minutes for service each time with the bar packed. When the concert was over, security escorted her through the crowd to the front doors to ensure she exited safely. I have been to multiple venues in the New Orleans/Biloxi area. I would rather attend another concert at Soul Kitchen than anywhere locally. read more

Most of the reviews I have read are stupid. This one of the only venues in Mobile, AL to pull bands like the Misfits, Clutch on multiple occasions, Buckethead, Helmet, Gov't Mule, Reverend Horton Heat, Hellyeah, Down, Etc. You should enjoy the music and not pay attention to the prices of drinks or other bull shit. read more

Went here for a paint rave. It was pretty packed. Plenty of good energy. The djs knew how to pump up the crowd. Made me feel right at home. Dope music. I ordered a Long Island and the bartender mixed it terribly. Not much room in the front room but decent spacing in the back. Overall it was good experience. Would definately go back again read more

So, if you are not familiar with downtown Mobile you have to have a membership card for some venues that serve Adult Beverages. That was a shock to this Florida girl. I went for a concert scheduled to start at 9:30. I got there at 9:00 at 11:30 it still hadn't started. I asked one of the bartenders what was happening, he had no idea. I then asked for a manager. I was told nobody was available. I then was told by an employee that the band was running late. I finally asked a technical person from the band what was up. (This is the point when I realized that it is no fun to be the sober person in a crowd full of drunk people. This was not the night to have been pacing myself.) The guy from the band told me the bad wasn't scheduled to play until midnight. He also said the venue always advertised the start time as much earlier than it actually is. I have no problem waiting half and hour or an hour, but at that point I left. I called back the next day to ask about it, and sent a follow up email. I could never get a return call or email from Soul Kitchen. I did, however, get a very nice email from the band. read more

I had read the bad reviews that it wasn't the cleanest place and the bathrooms weren't great but those are things I can brush off...or so I thought. Now that I've gone and experienced it I would never recommend seeing any band here. Whether it's a decent band you know you'll enjoy or your absolute favorite band or singer of all time. Yes, I'm serious. We drove 4 1/2 hours from Louisiana to see Smith & Myers. The doors opened at 7:00 and we walked down to Soul Kitchen from our hotel at 4:00 to see how the line looked since we were General Admission and wanted to be at the front of the stage. There was roughly 8 people already there so we decided to get in line at that time to assure a good view of the stage. We knew it would be a long wait but we had done it before for different concerts and other venues so it wasn't a big deal to us. At around 5pm, people who had VIP & Meet and Greet passes were walking up and asking us where they were supposed to line up. Naturally, their instructions were to make their own line so it would be easier once they came to get them. We had no clue as we hadn't seen anyone step out to clarify where anyone was supposed to be. At this point we're all in one huge line. Some had printed tickets like us, some didn't but needed to get them and some were VIP. At around 5:30, a man finally stepped out to get the VIP/M&G people and although we continued to ask how we were supposed to line up, he never answered. After he did his job, he quickly went in and locked the door behind him. Roughly 45 minutes passed and now people are really beginning to show up and start lining up at another door about 20 feet down from us. There are now two lines with about 75 people in each line. We're still confused, and word got around saying that the other line was the one for people with printed tickets. You can imagine our rage at hearing that when we had been waiting there for two hours only to find out we were possibly in the wrong line. Once the doors finally opened, they let in both sides at the same time. I will say, the security guard and the guy taking tickets were both very nice but after we got our wrist bands, we had to stand in yet another line for 30 more minutes. We went ahead and ran to the restroom during our wait. There is one male bathroom, and one female with no locks on the doors. That's right. If you don't have anyone to guard the door, there's a 99.9% chance someone will bust in on you since...oh I don't know.. there's 300+ people trying to use the bathroom before the concert. Yes, it happened to me but thankfully I had at least managed to get my pants up after hovering so I wouldn't contract any diseases from that disgusting toilet. When they finally let us into the actual venue, which looks more like your creepy neighbors basement, we were five rows deep. 3 hours of waiting for a mediocre view. I saw people in front of me that had gotten there 30 minutes prior that weren't even VIP and it was absolutely maddening. Now please don't think I'm vain. I know GA doesn't guarantee a great view. That's the risk you take in buying floor but we had always been rewarded with an awesome view for our wait countless times before this place because of the way the venue let people in. First come, first serve as it should be- unless you pay for VIP where they should rightfully be in the front for paying extra. Smith & Myers themselves were phenomenal as usual but in all honesty, if I had been able to foresee all the waiting we'd go through for the crappy view and money spent between travel and the hotel, I would have chosen to stay home. If you read my entire review, thank you. I wanted to go into detail as to why this particular venue is simply not worth it. It's terribly unorganized and just flat out gross. Wait for the bigger venues and you will not regret it. read more

There was no soap in the women's bathroom and the hand dryer was broken. I can imagine this happens a lot since there was only one soap dispenser in the bathroom. Disgusting! One of the security guards was rude as he would not let me go back to my husband after coming back from the bar. If something would have happened they could be sued. read more
