    Mozzarella garlic bread
    Ashley T.

While I did not eat the mozzarella garlic bread, everyone said it was so good. I celebrated my birthday dinner here and was very pleased. While the food was a little too salty for me, I still really enjoy my penne vodka. Our server was super friendly abd not overly attentative. I was slightly embarrassed when they sang Happy Birthday but I did really love it. It was such a good experience overall.

It's become a holiday tradition for my aunt and I to eat here on Christmas. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's always busy with the families staying at the resort but we grab seats at the bar no problem.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] THE FOOD -some of the food can be hit or miss. We've shared a few things over the years that were meh and some were delicious. -this year we found they no longer give you the complimentary garlic loaf of bread (it's now an app to purchase) but instead tomato rosemary focaccia. I enjoyed the new focaccia though the old bread was missed! -my aunt had the pizza and really liked it. I felt the crust left much to be desired. Considering it's labeled as brick oven pizza I was expecting a thinner crispy but chewy edge / more hand tossed taste to it. -I tried the chicken parm and enjoyed it! Not the best vodka sauce I've ever had but tasty nonetheless! Big portion as well. -we shared the broccoli and I was pleasantly surprised. Very flavorful and cooked well. Nice size portion too. THE DRINKS -we always get espresso martinis and they are absolutely delicious -since we sat at the bar we notice a lot of what they're making and the cocktails all look good -the bartenders always are whipping up drinks and seem very knowledgeable THE STAFF -the bartenders are always very friendly and accommodating! Always able to answer our questions when we have them. THE ATMOSPHERE -[[HIGHLIGHT]]cool place! They do some dishes tableside (maybe the salads and dessert?) it's decorated in a cute way[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Overall, I wouldn't necessarily drive out of my way to eat this Italian , but since we don't have many options on Christmas this is our tradition and we really love it. I'd say my favorite part is always the bread and the alcohol I could be satisfied with that.

Alfredo 8/10 with broccoli and steak medallions 8/10

Service was great - our server was friendly, fun, and patient. [[HIGHLIGHT]]A family environment.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Their gelatos are always a hit (especially their pistachio 10/10). The seafood fra diovolo which, forewarning is very spicy - but if you're ok with that, this is a hit 9/10. Chicken penne vodka pizza 7/10. Alfredo 8/10 with broccoli and steak medallions 8/10.

Steak medallions. I think steak Mediterranean.

Came here again, probably the best food I have had here. They have a salmon on the menu that is delicious. It's a little pricey at $32 but it's a big portion. Cooked perfectly, moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. The fennel salad is lightly dressed and has very thinly sliced fennel that is crunchy and delicious. My husband's meatballs and spaghetti has the biggest meatballs ever. Everyone loved their meals, including the bolenegse, risotto, chicken Marsala and shrimp scampi. Besides the salmon the homemade mozzarella app was my favorite. Came with huge slices of thick bread baked with garlic. And a huge hunk of Mozzarella. I wish I had a bigger appetite it was so delicious. The bread it came with was better than the free bread they bring over, which is still good. The calamari app is also very good. 6 people split it and we each got 4-6 pieces. There is banana peppers in there too or maybe it's picketed jalapeño, either way it added a nice zing to complement the fried ness. The service was attentive and friendly. It was our nephews birthday and they brought over a cannoli! Though they didn't end up singing their signature birthday song. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance is cozy and warm, we like to sit at the high tops by the bar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Def would come back again!

    Pasta diavolo with chicken

We decided to try Sortino's Italian Kitchen at Kalahari Resort in the Poconos this evening. The food was decent. We ordered the Caesar salad which was a large portion enough to share for our party of four. Then my husband ordered the pasta diavolo, which said was a bit spicy, then I ordered the chicken Parmesan. I thought the chicken and the pasta were good. My son and daughter shared the kids pepperoni, which was a good size for both of them. Justin, our server, was quick, friendly and attentive. The ambiance is casual but still a nice touch of class, which was surprising for being at the largest water park. It's definitely a bit on the pricy side but very convenient if you're staying on the property.

Despite not having a reservation, we were able to be seated. But I do suggest planning ahead and reserving a table. Especially if you visit during high season. Anyhow, the service was excellent. Our server, Sam was extremely attentive. She explained the menu to you and shared some recommendations. We started out with a Caesar salad to share and knew right then that the servings would be ample! The kitchen was kind enough to split the salad for us between two plates and I'd have thought just half was shareable. But lucky us, plenty to indulge. We absolutely LOVED the dressing but found it a slight tad heavy handed. If we make it back, we'd definitely ask for dressing on the side. But nonetheless we appreciated the authentic Caesar dressing complete with anchovy paste. For entrees we had the penne vodka with sausage and shrimp 360. Both plates were big enough to feed an army and made for nice left overs. But make no mistake, both were delicious! Hit it out of the park, delicious! And beautiful al denté pasta. This meal really hit the spot. Even though we were completely stuffed, we managed to find room for homemade pumpkin cheesecake! I don't say this lightly, but it was hands down the best slice of cheesecake I've ever had. We couldn't stop raving about out it! This is a great restaurant to visit when visiting the Poconos. The setting was elegant in an understated way while being incredibly cozy! I think it would be great for larger groups but also intimate enough for couples.

Basso Cucina Italiana is an Italian restaurant and wine bar that opened in Cresco, Pennsylvania in…read moreJuly 2010. It was founded by members of the Pipolo family, including Bill Jr. and his wife Kim. The Pipolo family, including father Bill Sr. and mother Fabiana, had moved to the Poconos area from the Bronx, New York in 1984. Bill Sr. had a construction business which sons Bill Jr. and Peter worked in after graduating from high school. Bill Jr. first had some experience in the hospitality business when he owned the Calico Kitchen in Canadensis. When a location formerly home to Harrison's Tavern became available, the Pipolo family acquired it with the intention of turning it into an authentic Italian restaurant. The whole building was completely redesigned to resembled a trattoria in an Italian mountain village. Basso became a full Pipolo family endeavor. Even the grandchildren can be seen greeting guests and bussing tables from time to time. Bill Jr. and Peter later purchased the former Jagermeister German restaurant down the street and turned it into the PourHouse Neighborhood Bar & Grille after a renovation. My family and I visited Basso for dinner on a recent trip to the Poconos. We had previously visited the Pipolos' other restaurant, The PourHouse, and were excited to try their take on authentic Italian fare. The interior was nice and cozy. After looking over the menu, my wife and I decided to start out with some cocktails. I had the "Limoncello Spritzer" while she had the "Peach Berry Pink Sangria". Both were very refreshing! For our entrees, I had the "Pork Chop Di Parma" (juicy 12-oz. pork chop topped with prosciutto and red wine demi-glaze served over risotto), my wife had the "Cherry Red Shrimp" (sautéed shrimp with garlic, cherry tomatoes in a fresh basil butter sauce over linguine), our older son had "Tortelloni with a Pink Sauce", and our younger son had "Baked Ziti". Although the wait for the food was a little long, it was well worth it because everything was to die for! Our server was also very friendly and helpful. It's also worth noting that parking is very limited, so definitely try to stop in on the early side. We had an excellent experience at Basso and give them our seal of approval!

There's plenty of indoor seating, and on nicer days you can also enjoy the outdoor seating. We started with a side of meatballs that were served piping hot with a delicious sauce. Honestly, the picture doesn't do them justice. They were fantastic. The Italian sub was also excellent--everything tasted fresh and it was served on a perfectly soft Italian roll. We also ordered a personal pepperoni pizza with a thin crust, and it was just as delicious. Our server was wonderful. She kept stopping by to refill our drinks, asked where we were visiting from, and was incredibly friendly and welcoming the entire time. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal and felt very welcomed.
