Tldr: I came two different times, one for a women's haircut and one for a magic perm. I was disappointed with both experiences. I am not coming back. I first came to Sora to get a haircut after a friend referred this place. I just wanted a light trim. I have naturally wavy and voluminous hair so a little skill is required to not make my hair look even more unsettled. Sora advised that people should not be using shearing scissors on my wavy hair because a bad cut using those scissors could make you "look like a lion". I agreed with her and asked for light layers using mostly scissors. She ended up using about 50% of the shearing scissors and made random layers of all different lengths, excessively using the shearing scissors, resulting in a very shaggy look. My ends looked damaged and I looked like I had a mullet due to the bad layering job. I was mortified and disappointed. I'm not one to typically get upset over a haircut because I'm pretty low maintenance and hair eventually grows out but the cut made it difficult for me to even style my hair without using a lot of heat products, or tie it up without looking bad. I'm a new mom and was starting a job in the office so this haircut made me feel and look terrible. I wanted to fix the situation so I booked a magic perm a few months later when I realized my hair was not growing out nicely. I didn't want to write this place off and wanted to give it another try. I figured straightening my hair would at least hide the bad haircut while letting my hair grow out. I went on a weekend and the salon was quite busy. The other assistants were friendly and took direction from Sora. Periodically Sora checked in on my hair status and took care of me but the service was really hot and cold. At one point while drying my wet hair she absent mindedly held the Dyson hairdryer right at my scalp for a while burning my head and causing me to jump in my seat in pain. I asked her to trim away the shaggy odd layers of my hair to the best she could without cutting all my hair off into a bob. I asked for no new layers because I said the layers were the problem I wanted to fix. She went on to lecture me about how using shearing scissors is the problem - I said I got my haircut done at her salon. She ignored my comment and I didn't want to be confrontational so didn't bring it up again. She ended up trimming off some of the shagginess but then without asking me cut more layers really quickly in the front. It looks like I have a fringe around my face. I'm shocked that she did this despite me giving her instruction that I wanted no layers. The magic perm itself was also not the best quality as they rushed me and didn't straighten my hair 100%. This entire experience really left me feeling like Sora is not the best salon for women's cuts or perms that require skill and attention. The clientele seems to skew younger male students, older men, and elementary aged children. I'm going to try a different Korean salon next time. read more

I've been to several hair salons for my Asian hard, with less than satisfactory results in the past at other salons but I think I've found my go to hair salon! I had a general idea of what I wanted, and she took my ideas, suggested additional ideas and if I felt comfortable with her suggestions she went ahead and modified my hair. I loved her suggestions! Had an amazing experience at Sora Oh Salon, thanks entirely to Soon! I called on a Friday needing a last-minute men's perm for my brother before a weekend photoshoot, and they were able to take us in right away--walk-in style, no wait. Super lucky! Soon was incredible. It was my brother's first time getting a perm, and Soon made the whole process so easy and comfortable. He walked him through every step, explained what each part of the process did, and was genuinely kind, funny, and knowledgeable. You can tell he really cares--he even told my brother to text him if he had questions later. That kind of service is rare! The salon itself is simple--not fancy--but it gets the job done. They offered us water, which was a nice touch. One thing I did notice was that some people in the lobby seemed to be waiting a while, so it might be worth calling ahead. That said, we got lucky with timing and had no wait. Important heads-up: they don't take credit cards, so bring cash or be ready to Zelle. This review is 100% for Soon. I LOVE Sora. I get digital perms done every few years and Sora is my go-to gal. I do not know how she does it but she seamlessly handles like 5 clients at a time. She has Soon, who jumps in while working on his own clients. I've seen some complaints about her juggling clients but she's good at it! I've had my hair cut at a lot of high end salons and that's how they've all done it. Sora's salon is not super fancy but she is really skilled - it's clear she is very talented and technically skilled. So is Soon (and holy hot damn he gives the best shampoo head massage - I wish I could come in just for that!) Anyway, I am always getting compliments on my hair and this is my secret! Although I have naturally curly hair, I get digital perms done to help my curls to look more uniform. I requested an appointment for a hair dye job, from black to blue. It took two rounds of bleach to get my hair to a shade light enough to dye, then was advised to do a slightly darker shade of blue so that it "would fade slower". Unfortunately, the resulting shade was almost the same shade of black I had before, very disappointing. At best, it was a dark navy blue in the sun, virtually indistinguishable from black indoors. Additionally, they seem understaffed, two people running around, never spending more than a couple of minutes per person. Seems disorganized and unprofessional, relative to their pricing. Originally a one star review, but I will add a star because they technically got the bleaching correct, even if it took close to 5 hours just to do the bleach. I would not recommend going here for any hair dye job. read more

They were very accommodating and got me in quickly and when I requested. Everyone in the salon was very kind. I got to meet the owner, Sora, she's very nice and knowledgeable as I was asking her about other treatments they offer. The salon is clean and comfortable. I went in for a haircut but made an appointment the day before just in case. They do take walk-ins but expect to wait if you go in on a Saturday. First off I typically don't like to get my haircut during the busy hours for a salon due to me believe corners are but given my schedule I had no choice. First off, can I just say even though they were super busy, they did not cut corners nor did they try to just get people in and out the door. The place was super clean as well and I can tell the owner Sora takes great pride in her business. I also noticed that she addresses her employees with respect, something I saw lacking at other salons but that's just a personal thing. The person who cut my hair was Sora and showing her a picture she recommended a down perm, I thought why not? Went through the process and it was very quick and I felt like Sora knew what she was doing. She cut my hair so effortlessly and I like that she asks for feedback before cutting anything. Also got a shampoo after my down perm and Soon was the one who took care of me to wash out my hair. He too also did a great job! I saw him with another customer while i was waiting and he really was explaining what he was doing and taking great care of his customer. Maybe I will try a cut from him next time. I never realized there was a Korean salon in the Walnut Creek area. I either always got my hair cut in Korea or went to Santa Clara. Let's be real, if you want a cheap hair cut, by all means go to a Supercuts. However, if you want to look your best and have someone with the professionalism Sora and her employees do it, you won't find a better place. My go to salon in the area! This place specializes in Korean styles, I initially started going here because I wanted to find a stylist I could trust that was familiar with Asian hair. I have been going here for about 2 years now and consistently get haircuts with Hany. Note, they only take payments via Zelle. The salon takes appointments by Yelp messages and by phone call. Usually it's a few people working so they all take turns cutting, helping each other, taking calls for appointments, and checking people in which I don't mind at all. When I was just here for my haircut, it was just Hany and she was being very efficient handling everything and I never felt that she was rushing my haircut. I always show her a picture and she nails it, with some modifications to better suit my face. The offer a variety of hair cuts, styling, dying, and perming including korean digital perms. First of all, I don't take bad reviews lightly, but i feel like there was extensive damage to my hair after my visit and people should be warned. I went to Sora a few years ago and the prices were great and my bob cut was well done. It was frustrating that she worked on so many people at the same time, but I understood that it might have been a cultural thing and that they just work on several people at once. Fine. I went back to her three years later post pandemic stuff, and my hair had grown back and was long and natural. I don't make a lot of money as an artist, but thought of splurging as a bit of a celebration. She told me a balayage would be $400 so I had enough cash to prep. My appt was at 9:45am, and I showed her reference photos and she seemed to understand. At one point I even pointed to her hair and said I like the reddish brown and wanted it like that at the bottom. It was confusing when she started bleaching it, because she started really high up at the scalp and there didn't seem to be any gradation.I figured she knew best and she seemed confident and moved quick. I sat with the bleach on my hair for over 2 hours and was pretty concerned. in the meantime several other customers came and went and I felt pretty ignored. At one point the assistant seemed concerned with a section in the back of my hair and they spoke in korean and did a lot of back and forth about it and kept touching it up. The hair washing was so painful, not only because of the bleach but because the assistant had rubber gloves on and it felt like it was pulling out my hair. When it was all washed, and toned we went to the chair and I was horrified to see that it looked like my hair was WHITE. Like zero color in some sections. I tried to communicate with the assistant that didn't speak english well, and then Sora literally ran out with some hair dye and started covering the top of my head. Eventually they covered all of my hair and back I went to get my hair washed for the third time. By this time I was almost in tears because of how painful it was, and my neck hurt so bad. No natural color was left which was a little upsetting. The hair dye at least made it slightly more brown/blonde and I honestly just wanted out of there. A third stylist walked in and started curling my hair and just left and I didn't know it was over. Finally I was told it was done and to pay, and it was only afterward that I realized I didn't even get to see the back of my head. No smiles, no compliments, no asking if I liked it. $450 dollars later (they said it was $430 and then didn't give me change) I left. It was 3:30 so that was almost 6 HOURS. I was so hungry and frustrated that I came home and started bawling to my husband. Haircuts have never made me cry. I admit it's not the worst haircut I've ever gotten but it definitely wasn't what I wanted, and it was physically painful and so expensive. I wouldn't be surprised if my hair is permanently damaged since it doesn't seem to be even taking any color anymore and is a little frizzy already. read more

If you're looking for a Korean salon and this place isn't too far, I highly give this salon a try, especially if you are looking for a perm. The stylists were friendly and knowledgeable with styling Asian (thick) hair. Having made an appointment just the morning of my visit, they were able to squeeze me into their busy Saturday. They did a wonderful job in cutting and styling my hair just like I asked and showed them (a reference picture). Just like a review I saw, this salon is definitely more reasonably priced compared to the highly reviewed Korean salon located in Santa Clara. I recommend making an appointment with them, because they get quite busy on weekends, but they do accept walk-ins; but, be prepared to wait a while if you go in without an appointment. read more

I'm writing this on behalf of my roommate's awful experience here and the outcome that came with the haircut. He made an appointment a day prior to visiting the salon and when he came in, Sora seemed like she didn't know about the appointment. The haircut took about 10 minutes which felt insanely rushed and charged him $40. My friend was upset for the fact that Sora was rude, gave no quality time in the haircut (doesn't know how to layer), and charges a pretty penny for it. When my friend came home and asked me for my opinion about his hair, I immediately noticed something wrong -- she lined him up half way in the back and let him leave the salon, unfinished. I was in complete shock to see that a hairstylist would let a customer leave looking like that. I asked my friend, "Were they busy?" and he responds, "No, it was just me." I'm mortified.
