Unfortunately, it's on it's way down. The sushi was decent but the place is absolutely filthy.....gross. As soon as you walk in you notice boxes stacked up with mildew around the bottoms, the pick-up table has old food on it, there's trash scattered around the cashier booth and the booths have very torn cushions. Based on Yelp reviews, we decided to come here for some affordable sushi. It was around 3ish and it wasn't that busy, but there was a sudden influx of customers that came pouring in all at once. That being said, there was only one person that was both hosting and serving, so at times it was a challenge to get his attention since he was all over the place. We didn't really see anything from the conveyor belt that appealed to us, so we ordered sushi from the menu. I know, it defeats the purpose of eating here, right? Well, it was lacking a variety of options and there may have only been 2 or 3 types of rolls and many different desserts on the belt. Most places we've been to, would have a wide variety of sushi and sashimi to choose from, but not here. Interestingly enough, the person took our order without writing anything down which explains why he forgot about my order for a Dragon Roll until I asked about it. Basically, everyone received their food except me which then left everyone else in my party waiting for me to receive my order and finish eating. It just felt unorganized and rushed. We love Sora! Their happy hour is the best deal, but even when we order for delivery we still spend about the same amount for a variety of yummy rolls and sashimi! They're always friendly, provide kiddo chopsticks for them to learn, and when they temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic they continued to serve the community by donating thousands of masks. This place still rates highly for price and value. Even though they use a lot of cream cheese and imitation crab, they have uni (sea urchin) pretty regularly. That's pretty high-class for a conveyor belt operation. I can spend $50 on myself easily at Kanpai or 5Fusion. Here, I can leave happy only $25 poorer. Of course the quality isn't as high as those other places, but I can't spend $50 on myself all the time. Sora's weakness still seems to be clearing spots and getting people seated when they are slammed. Likewise, sometimes it takes a while before someone can total up your check when you're done. But they are good about refilling water and soda. Be prepared to wait a little bit when they are busy or hit them up in between the lunch and dinner rush...and take advantage of the flat-rate happy-hour prices on plates. NOTE: I find it odd that more than one visit, other customers seem to be surprised if not shocked that the employees are Chinese. They speak mostly cantonese and some mandarin amongst themselves (not japanese as some other reviewers have noted). uhh...around the U.S. lots of sushi places are run by chinese. lots are run by koreans. and of course a lot are run by japanese. This is a great, cheap and convenient spot. It's not the best sushi around but gets the job done. Its also fun to watch the sushi go around and be able to pick what looks good. You can also order what you want if you don't see it on the conveyer belt. The sake is cheap and good. They almost always have a deal for sake. Also a great place to bring the kids. My nieces loveeeee coming here. I would also highly recommend coming for happy hour. I think every roll is something around $2. Wow, was I thrilled to see a classic "big city" style conveyor belt sushi place open in that building that has proven absolute death to any other restaurants that have tried to enter its dark corner. Most of those were crap, frankly, though El Caporal did have a great selection of tequilas. This time, however, we have a WINNER! Let's hope they succeed where others have failed. Brother got the ramen: Not the best, I would suggest something else. Sister had several sushi plates and a special order of baked mussels. She loved all the sushi she had and the mussels were massive! A great value, although they take 15 minutes (which we were warned about), so order them first thing! There are relatively few wait staff who tend to leave you to your own devices, so don't be afraid to raise a hand and flag them down if you need something. I like the prices and the host/waiter was kind. I do not pull food from the conveyor belt, I order from the sushi chef and they serve me fresh and close to traditional nigiri, if you ask for it. The only negative is, the smaller than usual sashimi pieces and thin cut nigiri pieces they serve you. The prices are cheaper because they cut smaller pieces, that's obvious. So beware if you are going there for traditional Japanese fare, that's not how they serve it. read more
