Park in the back and went in to ask about the prices on the garden dirt. No prices listed anywhere! The nasty response from the ladies at the cashier register- say we need to know which one? Well can someone come with me? There are so many and I don't which one - I have a couples of questions. Her response, well we can't help you! I have been supporting this business since 1999. This was my go to hardware store. Yesterday on November 3, 2021 I went upstairs to the lumbar department and was treated with the most disturbing & disrespectful customer service by one of the middle aged male staff. Perhaps this was not his day; however I did communicate to him that customers are generally right. I will never go back to this store as I felt threatened & not safe by the upstairs staff. I will Go to Wilco, Tractor Supply, or Lowes where I feel safe and treated with respect & sincere staff that greet you with a kind smile with a willingness to serve customers with dignity & respect. I have a house in Tuolumne since 2003. 2009 and 2010 I did home improvements and back then Sonora Lumber was O.K. ,wasn't the best, but it was decent. I just went there and purchased over $800 in lumber for now and later purchase another $10,000 at least, (huge deck + carport) The cashier that took our order and rang me up She mush have been sent there to serve time, it was obvious she hates her job and hates the customers she has to deal with, I had a hard time getting her to understanding my order. I was told to pull to the back When I got to the back, un like last time,it was chaos , unsure where to go, trucks scattered everywhere and No one directing anyone where to go, So I pulled to the back into a parking spot to get out to go find out where do I go, A guy told me stand by my truck and somebody will come to help. I waited and waited and waited, The guy in a 4 clad came I grabbed my order and says he would be back, I waited and waited and waited and waited and waited, I started to walk till towards the other end of the yard till find out what's going on when I see him come with a bunch of wood piled on his forklift, He asked me where I was part I told him any proceeded down to the truck. He started loading it to the back of my Truck I didn't get a very good look at what he put on there as he just slip it off of the hork live on to the bed of the truck, I got home only to find now the order was completely messed up, The lumber was a mess had all kinds in knots,chips damaged and Twisted and Warps. The folks upstairs in the back know their stuff; Rick the repair man has fixed three of my Passlode cordless nailers and is working on my fourth. Man of few words? Yes. Because he's busy getting it done. Mark The Bald in back upstairs always knows where stuff is; always. And he is witty. The folks in front? As to PROPANE? Janet has a PhD in propane I swear; attachments and regulators and hoses and connectors-a full library of parts. Went to Lowes: "Can help. Gotta order online," they said. Went to Orchard: they had ONE part. Took two guys to find it. (Wrong part.) Went to J.S. West: "To be safe, you should hire a plumber." Went to JANET at Sonora Lumber to attache a 20lb portable propane tank to a camping heater AND cook stove; two appliances, one tank Late in the day she stayed after to fix me up. NOBODY knows how to get it done w/ propane fittings in all of Sonora better than Janet and her full wall of parts. The staff is superior with customer service. I have had accounts at the large home improvement stores for 25+ years. The lack of real customer service and low knowledge staff, I just seemed to get used to and accept over the years. After another frustrating visit to the large stores, I had just had it, loading cement bags and lumber by myself, while 4 different employees walk by and never offered to help. But they were happy to shag carts and text. I had been to Sonora Lumber many times for paint and different items and had good experience. I decided I was going there to get everything for my fairly large deck project. What a day & night difference. To start, they had a much larger selection of brackets for my footings than Lowes. In addition, I learned that I needed a specific type of bracket due to the type of wood I was using, that the reaction pressure treated wood has on the specific metal. ( That's where real product knowledge comes in from the staff). My wife took care of all the paint & stains. She couldn't be happier with Crysta & Michelle in the paint dept. Jim and everyone upstairs was knowledgeable and great to work with. I had enough materials, that I needed to make two separate loads. When it came to loading everything, Tim & Aaron in the yard were very helpful, picking out good material and loading it. I was happy with everyone, that's why I took there names down to specifically mention them. I know we all read a lot of reviews and sometimes I have reservations about what I read, but don't take my word for it. See for yourself. Went there to buy some lumber and had to deal with an older guy upstairs. He was about as useful as a wart. He was unbelievably rude and wouldn't even look up from the computer. I would have to assume he is part of the family that owns the business because I couldn't possibly see why management would keep someone employed that is so useless and rude. The customer service here has always been great. I had a humorous incident a few weeks ago when I needed a simple replacement light bulb for over my range, and there were so many choices I was lost. I felt like an idiot asking for help to pick out a light bulb. But the guys were so helpful and as it turned out, it took three of us to figure out which bulb would be the correct one and we had a good laugh over that. Sonora Lumber is also my go-to place to get pellets in the winter for my pellet stove. I drive 30 minutes out of my way to get them here as the service is so outstanding.
