This one of the WORST hotel experiences I have ever had. Our room was filthy and the beds had so much dust and dirt/stains. The carpets are disgusting and there's toenails everywhere . Mold and dust in the AC unit . They gave us 30 minutes to get out of her room or else we wouldn't be able to get a refund. It's ridiculous and we have don't have a place to stay. Side note : lady at the front was very friendly and understanding . I think her name is Dalia . read more

one of the weirdest places I have stayed in the last updates to bathroom fixtures and lighting was probably in the 1980s or early 1990s and home depot type cheap replacements were used rust spots and exposed enamel everywhere towels are small and rough The location, at the corner of the downtown, is awesome you feel like you are in a western movie The walkability is why you should stay here Pleasant 2 hour drive to Yosemite Village I hate camping so it is nice to stay in a motel Great Mexican restaurant down the street Easy street parking read more

We Love it! We actually stayed twice within a months time. The first time was New Years weekend, we wanted to get out of the craziness of the Bay Area. We stayed 12/30/17 - 01/01/18. It is the perfect location to walk up and down the main street. Plenty of restaurants, shops, bars, banks, everything you need in walking distance. It's a very short distance to Historic Jamestown, Historic Columbia, and Black Oak Casino. Yes, the hotel is old, but I prefer to call it vintage. I love the old pictures that line the walls, our room was plenty roomy, and the restroom had was seemed to be original tile and fixtures. Everything in the room worked, so the old fixtures just add to the charm. I'm surprised people are complaining about the breakfast. For a free breakfast it was more than sufficient. Boiled eggs, cereal, toast, bagels, fresh fruit, danish, even microwave breakfast burritos. Coffee, tea, 2 kinds of juice, and milk. The staff was very nice . While there on our first trip I bought a gun at one of the local shops. Since there is a 10 day waiting period I had to return a couple weeks later to pick it up. Since we liked it so much the 1st time we decided to make a weekend of it and spend the night again. We went 01/20/18 and spent the night. We had the same great experience that we did the first time. read more

Sonora Inn - King Bed ~ Very Comfortable! - Hotels Near Me - Sonora, California

The hotel so far has been great! AC in room doing its job, plus a pool upstairs in the hotel! That was unexpected. Hardworking staff making everything nice. Yes, the place is older and may have seen brighter days, but I am quite pleasantly surprised at how nice it is!! read more

Sonora Inn - Heatwave!! Thankfully there is a pool! - Hotels Near Me - Sonora, California

I give the Sonora Inn four stars because it is a very historical hotel! I stayed here wit a friend over 40 years ago. I love the history and there are a few items that have not been upgraded. I would look for another breakfast option I was not impressed with any of the breakfast. The rooms have been up graded but they have a poor window air conditioner that is super noisy. That atmosphere and the location are awesome. The staff was exceptionally mice and helpful too! read more

We stayed here for two nights and enjoyed our stay. The staff was very accomodating and the rooms are large and comfortable. unfortunately the elevator broke down the morning after we arrived and had the hoof it up and down the stairs from the second floor the rest of the time. The other issue we had is with the antiquated bathroom. The tub is so high my wife needed assistance getting in and out of the shower. If you have any mobility issues this is not the place for you. The inn is centrally located in the middle of town with lots of activity and things to see and do around Sonora. read more

Just spent a few days here before things really hit the fan with the corona virus and enjoyed our visit very much. Lovely people at the front desk, the maid on our floor (2) was very nice and we are in love with our new friend, Victor the cat. Can't wait to come back for a visit. read more

The Sonora inn has got all new bedding and plenty of hair dryers for all the rooms now. The new owner Jeff is really fixing it up Its really nice. read more

Shower water pressure was awful!!! Couldn't take a shower. There was more pressure in the sink!!

I'm sorry I have to do this.....but I hope this helps to make this place better. In their website, they mislead people into thinking that the hotel was renovated in 2012. Please check out my pics of room 234. Ice machine is outside. Everything is grimy. Carpets are stained. Matress, however, was comfortable. read more

The newly re-modeled Sonora Inn is fantastic once you get inside. The outside still looks a little dated and funky but now incredibly clean modern & cozy on the inside. What a great 2 day stay! I arrived in mid June. It was very hot in Sonora so thankfully every room has air conditioning. I plugged in my air conditioner and slept like a hibernating Momma Bear for 2 nights straight. Also a couple of other plusses - Room 217 was located just steps from the cute balcony pool where I luxuriously swam alone in the mornings and and the patio balcony provided a beautiful quiet place to think and write. It was a lovely quiet stay that was much needed and greatly appreciated. To elaborate on my initial statement - they have just redecorated the interior of the Inn and it's very pretty, clean and cozy. The hotel is located on the main drag of Sonora so you are seconds from all the adorable shops that line downtown historic Sonora. Don't miss out on a wonderful Gold Hills escape. Stay here and you will turn this rendezvous into a yearly visit. read more

This place is awful except for the desk clerks. Items which did not work in our room are: the shutters, the shower head, the hair dryer, door knobs and the windows. The room is really tiny and did not have even one chair until we ask for one. Bring scotch tape to tape the shutters back together. Better yet, stay somewhere else. read more

We really enjoyed our stay at the Sonora Inn. We were greeted by Shelby and Becky at the front desk who were both happy and helpful! The property is clean and the new owner Jeff has been making the guest experience at the Inn even better! We stayed in a suite with 2 bathrooms and 2 beds. Plenty of room for our family of 4. Our kids really enjoyed having their own room, we did too. We decided to hang out in the room for the night after we walked down to the grocery store for some snacks, then back to the room to watch movies - great time had by all! There are many nice shops and places to eat just outside the front doors of the Sonora Inn. You could make a day of walking the town. read more

Pros Location, this hotel is situated in the downtown area which has access to coffee shops, stores, and restaurants. This place has a lot of character but it is very old so set your expectations very low Cons -Rooms are very small, and we actually stayed in room 234 which has previously been reviewed, the room still looks the same as those pictures showed -The hotel parking is actually on the back of the hotel and shares the same lot as the rodeway inn, there is an elevator in the hotel but it was out of order. -Breakfast, usually with free stuff you should never complain but the breakfast was "continental" and it wasn't very fresh. -When we arrived there was blood on the comforter, we called the front desk and they replaced it right away Final words -For the amount of money that we payed we were not satisfied, as I mentioned before this place has a lot of character and charm but our room does not seem like it has been remodeled as stated in the website. We really wanted to like this place but based on what we experienced we just couldn't. read more

I've stayed here twice now in the last month and it's always been such a pleasure staying! Management is so nice! I can't explain to you how refreshing it is to be welcomed with the same energy every time. The rooms are nice but old, and if you're facing the street it does get noisy with street and bar noise but that's not taking away from the customer service I've experienced here at the inn. Anna, an employee, saw I was sitting alone while eating and asked to join me so I wouldn't eat alone, seriously it's the small things that make a difference. A manager, Jeff, brought food for the employees and he offered me some, which I couldn't have been more grateful as I had been waiting for my ride for over an hour. Everyone here is so nice and are about their business!!! read more

After a hiccup in the reservation department when making the reservation I checked in to the cutest hotel I've ever seen. It's like an old west inn with some nice stuff. I read some of the negative reviews and saw a response from the hotel that they went through and redid the rooms and I can say, they redid the rooms but still kept some of the old charm. The bathroom is tiled on the floor and tub, it's a big old tub. The bed is big and comfy with a mountain of decorative pillows. read more

Ever have such a bad experience it just makes your trip that much better with the stories!?! 1- The room we got was so small and haunted the door practically touched the bed! 2- The place is cool bc its historic and yes everything looks 1920's bc it is! People who complain about the atmosphere, AC, Water well then this is not the place for you! 3- The Hotel was so Haunted I had the worse experience when a little girl and a lady which I told my friends about and they thought I was crazy! But then we went down stairs and when we asked the front desk guy he shared with us these papers that discussed the little girl and lady making my vision true! It was horrible scary! 4- Would I stay there again? Maybe in the newer hotel not the main but probably not! But if you travel its a must see! :D read more

Definitely an old hotel. "Vintage" and "antique" are just terms for old. But given the option between this one and the one across the street this one was ok. The floors creaked and the old timey air conditioning was loud as hell. Good thing my family and I were exhausted by the time we got back from Yosemite every night or else I would be waking everyone up every time I got up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. And breakfast is......basics. Boiled eggs, bagels, english muffins. Simple. Minus 1 star too for saying on the site that it's close to Yosemite, definitely not. It's 1.5-2 hours away...one way. read more

Pros: Old West character, reasonably priced Cons: Minimal breakfast, noisy Whether or not you like the Sonora Inn depends largely on if you like its historic roots. The inn retains some of its Old West character. We were on the second floor and could tell the hallway was a bit lopsided. The elevator is a hoot, with an accordion fold gate. As I walked to our room I was imagining the inn's previous guests in chaps and long hoop skirts. Some people might see a lopsided hallway and an old elevator as flaws that need updating; we thought it added flavor, even though getting our luggage into the elevator whose accordion door would automatically spring closed was a challenge. Since Sonora Inn is downtown there's a lot of traffic and it was a bit noisy. I didn't have trouble getting to sleep, though. The beds were comfy and the unit air conditioner worked very well. Breakfast was your typical continental breakfast, with no protein save some hard boiled eggs. I wound up toasting a bagel from the continental breakfast and heating up some leftovers from last night's dinner. The dining area was sizable. We only stayed one night and didn't interact with the hotel staff much, so I can't say much beyond that they seemed reasonably polite and answered our questions without problem. read more

This is an old hotel that has been renovated and they have worked to preserve the historic feel. The bed was very comfortable and the room simple but adequate. The price was fairly reasonable, and the location convenient. Unfortunately the window heating and air unit for our room was old and set off the room smoke alarm in the middle of the night the first night we were there, so sleep was interrupted. The woman who managed the hotel during the day had an "I don't care" attitude, which didn't give us confidence the problem would be resolved, and she didn't offer to change our room or compensate us in any way. Fortunately the owner seemed to care about our comfort and checked out the unit himself before we retired the second night, so that night was uneventful. Note: The "breakfast" that is included consists of instant oatmeal, cold cereal, bread or English muffins you can toast yourself, and coffee, tea, and milk. If breakfast is an important meal for you, I would recommend you plan to eat elsewhere. read more

Thank you for a wonderful stay, we had an easy check in and were charmed with the Christmas ornament gift that awaited us. Our room had a perfect view of the evening Christmas parade. They had local vendors downstairs next to lobby and enjoyed chatting and buying local. The hotel is historic and charming, wonderful staff, very friendly and accommodating. I didn't meet any ghosts on this visit. My family thoroughly enjoyed their stay. Can't wait to come back next year! read more

We arrived and were greeted by staff quickly. Check in went smooth. When we got into the room I noticed human hair on the floor, my Girlfriend found a fake eye lash on the bathroom floor!!! The room itself is small. The bathroom is small and in need of some good cosmetic attention. The door lock sticks, so be sure to check before you go out. Day 2 we were out early, when we returned around 4, our room had not been cleaned. The reason given was that the do not disturb sign was on the door (Not true) I would have noticed when we went back to the room. No maid service availiable this late, so maintinence came to dump the trash. Continental breakfast was a nice treat, muffin, waffles, fruit, juice and coffee. Over all the location is right in the heart of town, friendly guest staff, but housekeeping needs some serious refresher course. Great trip, but next time we will stay elsewhere. read more

I hate when people stay in an old hotel and give it bad reviews based solely on it being old. Yes, the rooms are small, yes the parking lot is at the back of the building connected to another inn (1869 people!! They didn't need parking lots back then). The room had a few dings and quirks but was not filthy and did not smell bad. The elevator was out of order but the stairs were not an issue for us. We only stayed one night but would have happily stayed a couple more to experience the restaurants nearby and the outdoor rooftop pool. Overall a pleasant experience considering this is a historic hotel. If you want something fancy, pay the money to stay somewhere that meets your high expectations. read more

Worst hotel experience ever - and I have driven cross country and stayed at road side motels. This hotel is not at all what they advertise. It is not newly remodeled, it smells of old moldy/piss carpet that they are trying to cover with noxious amounts of carpet fresh, the rooms are DIRTY, and it is managed by people who have no concept of the principles of the hospitality industry. After calling to book a suite with living space (since the photos on line are not great and I had questions about what the room type included), I was told to book the two room suite online because I would get a better price (still over $600 for 4 nights). This room is not a suite at all - only two regular adjoining rooms. With a wedding to get ready for this was not going to work. After some lengthy and headache inducing conversation with a manager, they did remove the bed and bring in chairs from the hallway, it was not at all what I had agreed to pay for. The managers are RUDE, and oblivious to customer service. The maids got into a physical fight outside my door and then the manager says she doesn't know what is wrong with them - um, your management, or lack thereof. The maintenance staff seems to be the only ones that know what they are doing. Thanks to Dennis and company for fixing the room as best they could with limited resources. The one star is only because of you! read more

Wonderful! Historic, cute lobby, great service, great breakfast and only $109! It's in the heart of everything, all the antique stores and fun architecture. Mining country and culture. 1850s all the way. Going back in time here...love it. Room was old fashioned but very clean. read more

Most. Comfortable. Bed. EVER. Awesome old-school hotel feel, and a spacious and clean room. But dude. The BED! Those two nights might have been the best sleep of my life (and I'm kind of a nomad). It's the off season (February), and I booked through a third-party sight, but I would gladly pay significantly more for such quality. Would DEFINITELY stay here again. read more

Do not stay here until the road works outside are finished. They were taking place about 20 yards from our room, throughout the night. The sound level was up to 80 decibels all night (I ran my iPhone app). The hotel should have been closed, I nearly went to try and sleep in the car. Otherwise the hotel was lovely, tasteful, friendly. The pool was great, with evening sun on a roof terrace. It's an art deco hotel, with 1930s design and fittings, beautiful in lots of ways. We were having a great time, and enjoying the town a lot, until we had a nearly sleepless hotel. The hotel should be closed! If I was more assertive I would have asked for a 100% refund in the morning, but I'm too English, so will blog instead, in a very tired, grumpy state. The breakfast was very disappointing: disposable cups and plates, in a strange hall, we wondered if we were in the right place all meal (canteen tables and chairs, zero service and zero atmosphere). It's harsh to give this place 1 out of 5, but it reflects our nights experience. It was good value. read more

Sketch city....very thin walls. Bathroom amenities were supposedly upgraded recently.....no it wasn't.

Wonderful hotel and staff! Clean, comfy rooms. Right in town. Big breakfast included. I stay a few times a year. Love this place!

I'm going to echo another Yelper and give some major love to the beds at Sonora Inn. I mean, I LOVE me a historical property - give me creaky stairs, great architectural touches, and a great back story and I will overlook little stuff that might grate my nerves at another property (like hearing people through the walls, which did happen here... or having to ask at the front desk for a hair dryer as opposed to it just being in the room for my use, which also happened... or a pretty lackluster breakfast, albeit complimentary)... add a bed that gave us some of the best sleep we had on our entire trip, and we have a total winner. Why anyone would ever consider staying at the "sister property" or a dingy Rodeway Inn across the way, I cannot fathom. The Sonora has great character, friendly staff, and stellar location... what more can you ask for, really? read more

It all depends on your desires and expectations. This is an old hotel, decently maintained. Some upgrades, but to a large degree it is plain old fashioned. Either you like that, or not. I tend to like it. Pluses: A pool, which looks nice. Downtown location. Friendly staff. Good continental breakfast (fruit, waffles, cereal, juice, coffee, hard eggs) Minuses: downtown location, and it is at a busy intersection so road noise is prevalent. Carpet could be replaced. Bathrooms kinda small. read more

This is a lovely hotel. Some might feel it needs updating and that the rooms are too small, but I kinda like it just the way it is. It's clean, historical, and vintage (without being cheesy or scuzzy). Many of the fixtures in the room and bathroom are original. You can't beat the location or price, either. My only complaint: The breakfast was lacking a bit. read more

So bad! The reviews from a year ago talked about the elevator being out of service, well, one year later it still doesn't work! We had to carry our luggage to the 3rd floor. Continental breakfast consisted of sliced bread (weirdly packaged in ziplock bags) and jam, cereals, hard boiled eggs and packaged scary cinnamon rolls. We were told we had to pay extra to get something like ham or cheese. Windows in the room are locked, there's no way to open them, not even the one in the bathroom. The little air conditioning unit was so loud I kept waking up during the night, and switching it off made the room unbearably hot. The shower head was so low I had to bend down to wash my hair (I'm 5'10'', not a giant by any means). The smell of mold was everywhere (in the reception area, every floor we walked through, the rooms, the bathrooms, the restaurant, etc.) and seemed to get worst. Rude customer service; didn't feel welcomed at all. The fact that the hotel was founded is 1896 is no excuse for bad service! read more

first time staying at this inn and my family and I will definitely be back very soon! the hotel and staff are both amazing, but the cat, Victor is what we are truly coming back for. the rooms are nice for the price, you have to appreciate the old architecture it still has in most of the building. Now, back to the cat Victor, he is super sweet and loving, we let him in our room and he hung out for a while while we all took turns petting him until he was ready to leave and went and sat by the door. I've never stayed at a "hotel" with a cat before but it was truly an amazing experience to have him greet us at our front door bright and early in the morning.
