Main building where you check in

Location location location!!! AWESOME! Right on Washington, where there are so many shops & restaurants you can walk to... The hotel is older and consists of 2 nice sized building along with the really nice pool area that is right at the street. The pool area sits above the street offering a cool view of this beautiful historical town.. the area is fenced/gated so you'll need your room key to enter the area. There are towels available and nice chairs, loungers and tables with umbrellas... The parking can get tight especially when the hotel is full. It's free to park also. There is some parking available in front of some of the rooms and parking behind the hotel. The hotel is 3 stories and there is no elevator. There are stairs and they are a bit cumbersome. Our room was cleanish, beds comfortable, plenty of pillows, alarm clock, frig/microwave, Flat screen TV, remote controlled air/heat in room... it was hot and it kept our room very cool... small closet area with 3 hangers and luggage rack thing, iron and ironing board. Bathroom is roomy but has limited counter space and shower is cramped... at least to me.. They have body wash in the shower and there is a place for probably shampoo/conditioner but it was broken so we just had body wash.. hairdryer didn't work nor did the outlet in the bathroom. There is a coffee maker with Coffee/Tea, cups and the packets with sugar/creamer, Ice bucket and hand lotion. There is a small wall heater in bathroom also! Warmed the bathroom right up oh and a large backlit mirror. There are no outlets to plug anything in except the one on the light between the beds. Breakfast was, well there is opportunity to improve this on so many levels. I SPEAK FOR ALL OF US WHEN I SAY NOBODY LIKES STEAMED FROZEN WAFFLES OR SAUSAGE! GROSS! NOBODY LIKES COLD SYRUP EITHER AND BREAKFAST IS FROM 6am - 9am THAT DOESNT MEAN THAT YOU START TELLING YOUR GUESTS THAT CHOOSE TO STAY HERE PROVIDING YOUR INCOME THEY NEED TO FINISH UP BECAUSE THE DOOR WILL BE LOCKED AT 9am. Rude! You are in the hospitality business right? If someone walks in the breakfast room at 8:59 and pretty much everything has been eaten that's not ok. No milk, no fruit, minimal juice, 2 pieces of bread and they were not useable no muffins and apparently eggs are to costly so no eggs just a ridiculous amount of unappetizing sausage and steamed waffles.. YOU CAN DO BETTER MUCH BETTER! AND GET RID OF THAT INSTANT OATMEAL AND MAKE IT LIKE OTHER HOTELS DO AND GET SOME VARIETY NOT JUST THOSE OVERPRICED FROZEN WAFFLES! CLEAN YOUR WALKWAYS AND STAIRS AND RAILINGS AND PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE VENDING MACHINE AND ICE MACHINE AREA IT SMELLS LIKE PEE AND ITS FILTHY... CLEAN THE CARPET IN THESE ROOMS AND THERE HAS NOT BEEN ANY ONE TO CLEAN THE ROOM THE ENTIRE WEEK.

I was actually not going to stay at this place based on the old reviews but upon talking with the other hotel near by they actually done some remodeling and the price to stay a night was very affordable. It costs $130 for two queen beds where as the hotel down the street was $400 a night. It was basic but it was perfect. The hotel clerk also gives you a list of events going on and the nearest restaurants to walk to. Only thing wrong which dropped a star was they really need to change out the air filters. It smelled very dusty and old and the air filters were pretty dirty and full. I kept the window open while I left to air it out.

Highly do not recommend this place! We found 2 roaches the night we were here, and when we brought it up to the employee around midnight, he said there was nothing he could do about it because he did not have the authority to switch rooms for us. By the time we found the 2nd roach, we told him we were checking out. After that, the employee finally switched rooms for us. We packed all our belongings at midnight and relocated to another room. The next morning, we brought up this issue to the manager, Ginger. We asked for a refund for the night that we found 2 roaches and had to relocate at midnight, but Ginger was extremely rude. She blamed us for bringing the roaches in. After a refund of $20 (when we had initially spent $250 for 2 nights), Ginger blocked my phone number. When I confronted Ginger about the refund from another phone number, she lost her temper and yelled at me. I would not recommend this type of hospitality to anyone.

Honestly great value for the price. Everything is clean and renovated. Only gripe is the walls are a bit thin so it can be loud at night.

I pride myself in leaving factual yelp reviews so here I go. -Location is PERFECTLY a short block away from the hustle bustle of the Main Street for coffee, bagels, meals, shopping, or maybe even a scoop of ice cream -Check in/out process was so warm and hospitable -We stayed in the Prospector Room because we were traveling with our dog, so took value in the private patio. Our room was cozy and spotless. Thankful for the AC unit as we visited on a hot weekend. Our dog enjoyed relaxing in the shaded patio. Our bed was comfy, more on the soft than firm, but did not hurt my back whatsoever. -OMG THE BREAKFAST. Kim is an UH-mazing cook. Perfect portion, flavor, not too heavy/complex, but certainly delicious. I am glad to have visited Sonora, but not sure if I'd make it an annual trip, to replace it with Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, or Napa. Nothing terrible happened, but I didn't have my socks knocked off either. Maybe it was the hot weather...not sure! If you plan on visiting Gold Country, do stay at the Bradford Place Inn and Gardens! We will.

Kim (Owner) was so wonderful, sweet and very accommodating to my wife's dietary needs etc., when preparing our delicious breakfasts. Each day, our breakfast was prepared fresh, warm and delicious. Breakfast (forgot to take a picture, too good to wait) included a protein, fresh fruit, warm pastries, ice water, orange juice and coffee. Just the right amount to get your day off to a good start... We loved this old Victorian home, it's beautiful. Some rooms, like ours, have a private patio area connected to your room. Very relaxing... Although, we don't have any pets, this place is "pet friendly". Next time, we're in the area, we'll be staying here again. Kim is such a gracious hostess and good person. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND you staying here... I found this place to be very reasonable, relaxing, beautiful and includes a delicious breakfast, compared to a typical "no tell motel"!!!

We were just looking for a place for a quick overnight and we tend to enjoy historic, downtown hotels like this one. This hotel was obviously just renovated and was very clean, but when we got to the end of the hallway on the second floor and had to go down half a floor to a small section of 3 isolated rooms we thought things were a little funky. It was past midnight so we just wanted our bed and did not do anything about the fact that room 244 (I think) was just some rejigged storage room that had an old bathroom attached and barely enough room for the queen bed. There was no room for a dresser or closet and the shower could barely produce warmish water. The door to the bathroom could not close and the gaps around our front door were so big that the hallway lights flooded into our room. It was hard for 2 people to get around each other for such a snug of a room it was. But, the funniest thing to us was that with so many things missing, it DID include coffee pot on one for the night stands (priorities, right?):) This room is an afterthought, and with the price we paid it did not reflect well on what might be a nice place and experience for others. At least put just a single bed in it so there is room to move in there, and then maybe they could add a dresser. We did not bother to take the time to address our feelings, because we were up and out early the next morning and it gave us a running joke for the rest of our road trip.

I enjoyed the old style of the bathrooms and took a long hot bath in the deep old bathtub that you can't find anywhere. The rooms have modern beds that are very comfortable and clean and upscale sheets and pillows. I love the old style of elevators back from the 1960s maybe or early days when I was a child. We had a nice new air conditioning unit that cooled off the room very nicely. I recommend you check it out and have an open mind about the way things were back in the day.

As soon as we opened the door to our room, we noticed several cleanliness issues. Although the bed appeared to be made, there was hair all over the bedding, and the comforter had what looked like dried snot on it. The bathroom sink barely drained, the bathroom door wouldn't close properly, the shower was dirty, the floors were filthy, and the towels didn't appear to be clean. It was so unsanitary that we didn't even feel comfortable taking our shoes off. I immediately went to the front desk and asked to be moved to another room. While they did relocate us, the second room wasn't much better. The sheets hadn't even been made, which made us question whether the rooms were being properly cleaned at all. Since we were traveling with two small children, checking out and finding another hotel late in the day wasn't convenient, so we decided to make the best of it. Unfortunately, our night only got worse. Around midnight, there was a great deal of noise coming from the parking lot, making it difficult for our family to sleep. On top of that, the air conditioning unit was incredibly loud. I honestly don't understand how this hotel could have been recently renovated yet have so many maintenance and cleanliness issues. The online photos are very misleading and do not reflect the actual condition of the property. I also spoke with the front desk manager Brianne regarding my concerns, but I didn't feel that my complaints were taken seriously or handled with much care. This was, without a doubt, one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had. Between the lack of cleanliness, maintenance problems, noise, and poor overall experience, I cannot recommend Hotel Lumberjack. If I could give it a negative one-star rating, I would.

Despite the mixed reviews, we decided to give this historic 1850 inn a chance. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. We stayed in Room 14, which was advertised as having a queen bed, but it was actually a full-size bed. The room itself was very small, and while it contained beautiful antique furnishings, it felt neglected rather than charming. The window air conditioner was outdated and awkwardly installed, the shower barely drained, the toilet paper holder had been poorly glued back onto the wall, and the towel bar repeatedly fell off. The old wall heater also appeared outdated enough to raise safety concerns. Outside, the disappointment continued. The swimming pool was green, the grounds felt unkempt, and the property overall looked dirty and cluttered. Instead of feeling like a treasured historic inn, it felt like a place that has been left to slowly deteriorate. What makes this especially sad is the incredible potential this property still has. After returning to our room, I looked into the history of the Gunn House and found photos and information from the previous owners. It was evident they had intentionally preserved the hotel's historic character and created a warm, inviting atmosphere. Since the ownership changed around 2017, it appears that only the bare minimum has been done to maintain the property. Many of the photos currently used online seem to reflect the inn during its better years rather than its present condition. The Gunn House deserves better. It is a historic treasure with rich Gold Rush heritage, and it should be restored by owners who are passionate about preserving its legacy. With proper investment, thoughtful restoration, and professionals experienced in historic properties, this inn could once again become one of Sonora's crown jewels. Instead, it currently feels like a neglected landmark waiting for someone to bring it back to life. I genuinely hope that happens one day, because beneath the grime and deferred maintenance, you can still see glimpses of the beautiful hotel the Gunn House once was.

I appreciated being told that would not be a problem. However, my concerns began as soon as I arrived. A homeless woman was sleeping on a bench outside the office, and later I saw her picking up used cigarette butts from the ground, which, I assume she planned to smoke later. When I opened my room door, the air freshener smell was overwhelming, so I planned to open the window. But when I pulled back the curtains, the window screen looked as if someone had tried to pry it open from the outside, which was very unsettling. The bathroom was worse: the toilet was dirty with what appeared to be a person with a bad case of diarrhea, and there was a gross looking used water jug on the dresser that was not mine. The carpet was filthy, so I wore flip-flops the entire time, and the chair was so stained that I would not sit on it. I bought Lysol wipes to clean anything I needed to touch. The "closet" was only a row of hooks on the wall near the window. People came and went throughout the night, with hallway conversations and dogs barking, so I got maybe two hours of sleep. Although the bed looked clean, I still slept in my clothes, using my T-shirt as a pillow cover and my sweatshirt as a blanket. I would rather sleep in my car than stay there again.
