Main building where you check in

Location location location!!! AWESOME! Right on Washington, where there are so many shops & restaurants you can walk to... The hotel is older and consists of 2 nice sized building along with the really nice pool area that is right at the street. The pool area sits above the street offering a cool view of this beautiful historical town.. the area is fenced/gated so you'll need your room key to enter the area. There are towels available and nice chairs, loungers and tables with umbrellas... The parking can get tight especially when the hotel is full. It's free to park also. There is some parking available in front of some of the rooms and parking behind the hotel. The hotel is 3 stories and there is no elevator. There are stairs and they are a bit cumbersome. Our room was cleanish, beds comfortable, plenty of pillows, alarm clock, frig/microwave, Flat screen TV, remote controlled air/heat in room... it was hot and it kept our room very cool... small closet area with 3 hangers and luggage rack thing, iron and ironing board. Bathroom is roomy but has limited counter space and shower is cramped... at least to me.. They have body wash in the shower and there is a place for probably shampoo/conditioner but it was broken so we just had body wash.. hairdryer didn't work nor did the outlet in the bathroom. There is a coffee maker with Coffee/Tea, cups and the packets with sugar/creamer, Ice bucket and hand lotion. There is a small wall heater in bathroom also! Warmed the bathroom right up oh and a large backlit mirror. There are no outlets to plug anything in except the one on the light between the beds. Breakfast was, well there is opportunity to improve this on so many levels. I SPEAK FOR ALL OF US WHEN I SAY NOBODY LIKES STEAMED FROZEN WAFFLES OR SAUSAGE! GROSS! NOBODY LIKES COLD SYRUP EITHER AND BREAKFAST IS FROM 6am - 9am THAT DOESNT MEAN THAT YOU START TELLING YOUR GUESTS THAT CHOOSE TO STAY HERE PROVIDING YOUR INCOME THEY NEED TO FINISH UP BECAUSE THE DOOR WILL BE LOCKED AT 9am. Rude! You are in the hospitality business right? If someone walks in the breakfast room at 8:59 and pretty much everything has been eaten that's not ok. No milk, no fruit, minimal juice, 2 pieces of bread and they were not useable no muffins and apparently eggs are to costly so no eggs just a ridiculous amount of unappetizing sausage and steamed waffles.. YOU CAN DO BETTER MUCH BETTER! AND GET RID OF THAT INSTANT OATMEAL AND MAKE IT LIKE OTHER HOTELS DO AND GET SOME VARIETY NOT JUST THOSE OVERPRICED FROZEN WAFFLES! CLEAN YOUR WALKWAYS AND STAIRS AND RAILINGS AND PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE VENDING MACHINE AND ICE MACHINE AREA IT SMELLS LIKE PEE AND ITS FILTHY... CLEAN THE CARPET IN THESE ROOMS AND THERE HAS NOT BEEN ANY ONE TO CLEAN THE ROOM THE ENTIRE WEEK.

I was actually not going to stay at this place based on the old reviews but upon talking with the other hotel near by they actually done some remodeling and the price to stay a night was very affordable. It costs $130 for two queen beds where as the hotel down the street was $400 a night. It was basic but it was perfect. The hotel clerk also gives you a list of events going on and the nearest restaurants to walk to. Only thing wrong which dropped a star was they really need to change out the air filters. It smelled very dusty and old and the air filters were pretty dirty and full. I kept the window open while I left to air it out.

Highly do not recommend this place! We found 2 roaches the night we were here, and when we brought it up to the employee around midnight, he said there was nothing he could do about it because he did not have the authority to switch rooms for us. By the time we found the 2nd roach, we told him we were checking out. After that, the employee finally switched rooms for us. We packed all our belongings at midnight and relocated to another room. The next morning, we brought up this issue to the manager, Ginger. We asked for a refund for the night that we found 2 roaches and had to relocate at midnight, but Ginger was extremely rude. She blamed us for bringing the roaches in. After a refund of $20 (when we had initially spent $250 for 2 nights), Ginger blocked my phone number. When I confronted Ginger about the refund from another phone number, she lost her temper and yelled at me. I would not recommend this type of hospitality to anyone.

Honestly great value for the price. Everything is clean and renovated. Only gripe is the walls are a bit thin so it can be loud at night.

It's obvious to me that they take it seriously too! The room had a pod coffee maker, mini fridge, microwave, and free bottles of water. Comfortable beds and cotton (breathable) sheets. Breakfast had cheese omelettes, French toast-sticks, cereal, juice & fresh fruit. All tasty! The location is close to the freeway, but tucked away on a side street that is private. Because of that, it's much more quiet than the hotels along the Main Street in Sonora (15 minutes away). It is an hour and a half to Hetch Hetchy Dam, 15 minutes to Culver's Apple Farm in Tuolumne City, 8 minutes to Columbia and 3 miles from the BESTsourdough bread you EVER ate, from Two Acre Farms! Fantastic location. If I had 10 thumbs, I would hold them ALL up for this hotel! Truly a great stay!

There is no dog relief area close to the hotel and no grass within two blocks. -The rooms are small. Very small. You might be able to fit a crate in the corner, but that's it. -The very popular Natural Bridges Hiking Trail is not dog friendly. It's the only trail near the lake that is not dog friendly and of course it has to be the coolest one. -Downtown wasn't as busy as we had anticipated which was nice, it's still did not help that the sidewalks are extremely narrow and the road through Sonora is busy at all times. If you have a skittish pup, make sure you are on high alert Here's a review if you don't have a pup. The hotel is a sister hotel to the Sonora Inn. You have to walk across the street once you've parked to check-in and pick up your room keys. The continental breakfast is also served at the Sonora Inn. The breakfast is simple, having items like cereal, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, waffles, and coffee. Parking has to be the worst idea between these two hotels. The one and only parking lot for both hotels is the Hotel Lumberjack parking lot. If you are planning on walking around or going out on Saturday, make sure your car is parked in the parking lot by 6:00 PM or you will not get parking again. You will have to park on the street or somewhere on the main street. As aforementioned, even though these are dog friendly spaces, they are not thought with dogs in mind. Not having a simple relief area is ridiculous. The three stars really are for the parking lot and also for the paper thin walls. If we were you, we would ask for a second story room. The people above us had kids and were moving things back-and-forth, and it was impossible to sleep .

We arrived to Sonora by way of Ebbetts Pass, winding down through crystal alpine lakes, faerytale meadows and boulders and forests that speak in quiet and ancient tongues. The pass opened upon amber grasses contrasted against lovely sagey-colored trees and verdant yet rugged vineyards. It turns out the Victorian-inspired Barretta Gardens is overseen with a care as golden as the hue of sepia-colored days gone past and motherlodes once legendary for their bounty. Yet breakfasts are as simple, elegant and memorable as any contemporary B&B can boast. The proprietors Astrid and Daniel run an inn as refreshing as the Moroccan mint tea set out every afternoon to greet us from a hot day exploring Gold Country. We found Barretta Gardens flexible and welcoming to our two boys as well. Our only suggestion is that if they choose to turn off each room's A/C while guests are away for the day that they would turn it back on in anticipation for their return in the evening. Baretta Gardens B&B is a rare treasure I hope more visitors to the area will mine for years more to come.
