Attention all you dog owners! This review is for you! The hotel itself really is three stars. Things that you will enjoy with your pup: -Quick access to downtown -Some restaurants/shops dog friendly -Dragoon Gulch Things you will not enjoy with your pup: -The hotel itself is not dog friendly when it comes to amenities. There is no dog relief area close to the hotel and no grass within two blocks. -The rooms are small. Very small. You might be able to fit a crate in the corner, but that's it. -The very popular Natural Bridges Hiking Trail is not dog friendly. It's the only trail near the lake that is not dog friendly and of course it has to be the coolest one. -Downtown wasn't as busy as we had anticipated which was nice, it's still did not help that the sidewalks are extremely narrow and the road through Sonora is busy at all times. If you have a skittish pup, make sure you are on high alert Here's a review if you don't have a pup. The hotel is a sister hotel to the Sonora Inn. You have to walk across the street once you've parked to check-in and pick up your room keys. The continental breakfast is also served at the Sonora Inn. The breakfast is simple, having items like cereal, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, waffles, and coffee. Parking has to be the worst idea between these two hotels. The one and only parking lot for both hotels is the Hotel Lumberjack parking lot. If you are planning on walking around or going out on Saturday, make sure your car is parked in the parking lot by 6:00 PM or you will not get parking again. You will have to park on the street or somewhere on the main street. As aforementioned, even though these are dog friendly spaces, they are not thought with dogs in mind. Not having a simple relief area is ridiculous. The three stars really are for the parking lot and also for the paper thin walls. If we were you, we would ask for a second story room. The people above us had kids and were moving things back-and-forth, and it was impossible to sleep .

We've stayed in many Sonara hotels over the last 20 years. This one was our favorite. We had the King suite #206 in the corner. I was a nice size room, nice bathroom and shower, comfortable bed and nice sitting couch. You check in at Sonora Inn. Christina checked us in and she was very nice. The TV worked but the WiFi wasn't working so we wen't back to talk to Christina. She tried to reset it but it didn't work. She put in a work order ticket for repair; it was no big deal. Breakfast was ok. They have instant oatmeal, but no toppings line raisins or nuts. They had yogurt, hard boiled eggs mL, cereal, waffles, toast, juice, coffee and tea. It was a good stay overall.

We chose Hotel Lumberjack because we needed a place close to a wedding we attended. We toured the hotel months before to ensure it was clean and odor-free. The hotel had been refurbished, and we were happy to book after our tour. The wedding was on June 29th, and we were exhausted when we arrived on Saturday night. Unfortunately, there wasn't a single parking spot available. We called the hotel and were advised to park across the street at the Bank of America parking lot, as they have an agreement. This meant dodging a homeless person and traffic to cross the street. Upon entering our room (a king suite), we were hit with the smell of cigarette smoke, despite these being non-smoking rooms. With no other options, we opened the small windows (which were covered in cobwebs) to try and air out the place. We left as soon as we could in the morning and are now home, airing out our luggage and washing all our clothes. My advice: keep on driving. We really wanted to like this place, but it was a disappointing experience.

We eventually found the remote toward the end of our stay. It was in a menu looking cover. Strange.

Poor customer service! Rude and condescending. Based on that alone I will never stay at this place or recommend it to others!

Our hotel room was clean, but the rooms are motel rooms with an IKEA remodel. The front desk was very friendly.

I pride myself in leaving factual yelp reviews so here I go. -Location is PERFECTLY a short block away from the hustle bustle of the Main Street for coffee, bagels, meals, shopping, or maybe even a scoop of ice cream -Check in/out process was so warm and hospitable -We stayed in the Prospector Room because we were traveling with our dog, so took value in the private patio. Our room was cozy and spotless. Thankful for the AC unit as we visited on a hot weekend. Our dog enjoyed relaxing in the shaded patio. Our bed was comfy, more on the soft than firm, but did not hurt my back whatsoever. -OMG THE BREAKFAST. Kim is an UH-mazing cook. Perfect portion, flavor, not too heavy/complex, but certainly delicious. I am glad to have visited Sonora, but not sure if I'd make it an annual trip, to replace it with Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, or Napa. Nothing terrible happened, but I didn't have my socks knocked off either. Maybe it was the hot weather...not sure! If you plan on visiting Gold Country, do stay at the Bradford Place Inn and Gardens! We will.

Kim (Owner) was so wonderful, sweet and very accommodating to my wife's dietary needs etc., when preparing our delicious breakfasts. Each day, our breakfast was prepared fresh, warm and delicious. Breakfast (forgot to take a picture, too good to wait) included a protein, fresh fruit, warm pastries, ice water, orange juice and coffee. Just the right amount to get your day off to a good start... We loved this old Victorian home, it's beautiful. Some rooms, like ours, have a private patio area connected to your room. Very relaxing... Although, we don't have any pets, this place is "pet friendly". Next time, we're in the area, we'll be staying here again. Kim is such a gracious hostess and good person. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND you staying here... I found this place to be very reasonable, relaxing, beautiful and includes a delicious breakfast, compared to a typical "no tell motel"!!!

We were just looking for a place for a quick overnight and we tend to enjoy historic, downtown hotels like this one. This hotel was obviously just renovated and was very clean, but when we got to the end of the hallway on the second floor and had to go down half a floor to a small section of 3 isolated rooms we thought things were a little funky. It was past midnight so we just wanted our bed and did not do anything about the fact that room 244 (I think) was just some rejigged storage room that had an old bathroom attached and barely enough room for the queen bed. There was no room for a dresser or closet and the shower could barely produce warmish water. The door to the bathroom could not close and the gaps around our front door were so big that the hallway lights flooded into our room. It was hard for 2 people to get around each other for such a snug of a room it was. But, the funniest thing to us was that with so many things missing, it DID include coffee pot on one for the night stands (priorities, right?):) This room is an afterthought, and with the price we paid it did not reflect well on what might be a nice place and experience for others. At least put just a single bed in it so there is room to move in there, and then maybe they could add a dresser. We did not bother to take the time to address our feelings, because we were up and out early the next morning and it gave us a running joke for the rest of our road trip.

I enjoyed the old style of the bathrooms and took a long hot bath in the deep old bathtub that you can't find anywhere. The rooms have modern beds that are very comfortable and clean and upscale sheets and pillows. I love the old style of elevators back from the 1960s maybe or early days when I was a child. We had a nice new air conditioning unit that cooled off the room very nicely. I recommend you check it out and have an open mind about the way things were back in the day.

Despite the mixed reviews, we decided to give this historic 1850 inn a chance. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. We stayed in Room 14, which was advertised as having a queen bed, but it was actually a full-size bed. The room itself was very small, and while it contained beautiful antique furnishings, it felt neglected rather than charming. The window air conditioner was outdated and awkwardly installed, the shower barely drained, the toilet paper holder had been poorly glued back onto the wall, and the towel bar repeatedly fell off. The old wall heater also appeared outdated enough to raise safety concerns. Outside, the disappointment continued. The swimming pool was green, the grounds felt unkempt, and the property overall looked dirty and cluttered. Instead of feeling like a treasured historic inn, it felt like a place that has been left to slowly deteriorate. What makes this especially sad is the incredible potential this property still has. After returning to our room, I looked into the history of the Gunn House and found photos and information from the previous owners. It was evident they had intentionally preserved the hotel's historic character and created a warm, inviting atmosphere. Since the ownership changed around 2017, it appears that only the bare minimum has been done to maintain the property. Many of the photos currently used online seem to reflect the inn during its better years rather than its present condition. The Gunn House deserves better. It is a historic treasure with rich Gold Rush heritage, and it should be restored by owners who are passionate about preserving its legacy. With proper investment, thoughtful restoration, and professionals experienced in historic properties, this inn could once again become one of Sonora's crown jewels. Instead, it currently feels like a neglected landmark waiting for someone to bring it back to life. I genuinely hope that happens one day, because beneath the grime and deferred maintenance, you can still see glimpses of the beautiful hotel the Gunn House once was.

I appreciated being told that would not be a problem. However, my concerns began as soon as I arrived. A homeless woman was sleeping on a bench outside the office, and later I saw her picking up used cigarette butts from the ground, which, I assume she planned to smoke later. When I opened my room door, the air freshener smell was overwhelming, so I planned to open the window. But when I pulled back the curtains, the window screen looked as if someone had tried to pry it open from the outside, which was very unsettling. The bathroom was worse: the toilet was dirty with what appeared to be a person with a bad case of diarrhea, and there was a gross looking used water jug on the dresser that was not mine. The carpet was filthy, so I wore flip-flops the entire time, and the chair was so stained that I would not sit on it. I bought Lysol wipes to clean anything I needed to touch. The "closet" was only a row of hooks on the wall near the window. People came and went throughout the night, with hallway conversations and dogs barking, so I got maybe two hours of sleep. Although the bed looked clean, I still slept in my clothes, using my T-shirt as a pillow cover and my sweatshirt as a blanket. I would rather sleep in my car than stay there again.
