Checked in 20 minutes early, rooms are great, bathroom is pretty good. I recommend this place.

I had a a positive check in experience at the Historic Sonora Inn, but unfortunately everything went downhill once we walked next door to their sister property, Hotel Lumberjack. As soon as we opened the door to our room, we noticed several cleanliness issues. Although the bed appeared to be made, there was hair all over the bedding, and the comforter had what looked like dried snot on it. The bathroom sink barely drained, the bathroom door wouldn't close properly, the shower was dirty, the floors were filthy, and the towels didn't appear to be clean. It was so unsanitary that we didn't even feel comfortable taking our shoes off. I immediately went to the front desk and asked to be moved to another room. While they did relocate us, the second room wasn't much better. The sheets hadn't even been made, which made us question whether the rooms were being properly cleaned at all. Since we were traveling with two small children, checking out and finding another hotel late in the day wasn't convenient, so we decided to make the best of it. Unfortunately, our night only got worse. Around midnight, there was a great deal of noise coming from the parking lot, making it difficult for our family to sleep. On top of that, the air conditioning unit was incredibly loud. I honestly don't understand how this hotel could have been recently renovated yet have so many maintenance and cleanliness issues. The online photos are very misleading and do not reflect the actual condition of the property. I also spoke with the front desk manager Brianne regarding my concerns, but I didn't feel that my complaints were taken seriously or handled with much care. This was, without a doubt, one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had. Between the lack of cleanliness, maintenance problems, noise, and poor overall experience, I cannot recommend Hotel Lumberjack. If I could give it a negative one-star rating, I would. read more

Attention all you dog owners! This review is for you! The hotel itself really is three stars. Things that you will enjoy with your pup: -Quick access to downtown -Some restaurants/shops dog friendly -Dragoon Gulch Things you will not enjoy with your pup: -The hotel itself is not dog friendly when it comes to amenities. There is no dog relief area close to the hotel and no grass within two blocks. -The rooms are small. Very small. You might be able to fit a crate in the corner, but that's it. -The very popular Natural Bridges Hiking Trail is not dog friendly. It's the only trail near the lake that is not dog friendly and of course it has to be the coolest one. -Downtown wasn't as busy as we had anticipated which was nice, it's still did not help that the sidewalks are extremely narrow and the road through Sonora is busy at all times. If you have a skittish pup, make sure you are on high alert Here's a review if you don't have a pup. The hotel is a sister hotel to the Sonora Inn. You have to walk across the street once you've parked to check-in and pick up your room keys. The continental breakfast is also served at the Sonora Inn. The breakfast is simple, having items like cereal, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, waffles, and coffee. Parking has to be the worst idea between these two hotels. The one and only parking lot for both hotels is the Hotel Lumberjack parking lot. If you are planning on walking around or going out on Saturday, make sure your car is parked in the parking lot by 6:00 PM or you will not get parking again. You will have to park on the street or somewhere on the main street. As aforementioned, even though these are dog friendly spaces, they are not thought with dogs in mind. Not having a simple relief area is ridiculous. The three stars really are for the parking lot and also for the paper thin walls. If we were you, we would ask for a second story room. We've stayed in many Sonara hotels over the last 20 years. This one was our favorite. We had the King suite #206 in the corner. I was a nice size room, nice bathroom and shower, comfortable bed and nice sitting couch. You check in at Sonora Inn. Christina checked us in and she was very nice. The TV worked but the WiFi wasn't working so we wen't back to talk to Christina. She tried to reset it but it didn't work. She put in a work order ticket for repair; it was no big deal. Breakfast was ok. They have instant oatmeal, but no toppings line raisins or nuts. They had yogurt, hard boiled eggs mL, cereal, waffles, toast, juice, coffee and tea. We chose Hotel Lumberjack because we needed a place close to a wedding we attended. We toured the hotel months before to ensure it was clean and odor-free. The hotel had been refurbished, and we were happy to book after our tour. The wedding was on June 29th, and we were exhausted when we arrived on Saturday night. Unfortunately, there wasn't a single parking spot available. We called the hotel and were advised to park across the street at the Bank of America parking lot, as they have an agreement. This meant dodging a homeless person and traffic to cross the street. Upon entering our room (a king suite), we were hit with the smell of cigarette smoke, despite these being non-smoking rooms. With no other options, we opened the small windows (which were covered in cobwebs) to try and air out the place. We left as soon as we could in the morning and are now home, airing out our luggage and washing all our clothes. My advice: keep on driving. We really wanted to like this place, but it was a disappointing experience. read more

This hotel seems to have been remodeled recently, all seems new and is very nice. Bed is comfortable, pillows are comfortable, walking distance to the main road/town. Now for the bad: floors where not mopped, there was something sticky on one area, I got some wet toilet paper and wiped it. We lost the wifi on our first night, took about 3 hours to come back. The walls seem very thin, we can hear our neighbors talking and snoring; we where on the bottom floor and could hear the people upstais walking and closing things, you can literally feel on the walls the steps they take so I recommend you stay on the second floor. read more

We were looking for a modern spot in the area for a weekend getaway and stumbled upon Hotel Lumberjack. The location is ideal as it is right off the main road of stores and local restaurants. Once you park the car in their lot, no need to move it as everything is within walking distance. Checking in was easy as the main desk is a few steps away in the Historic Sonora Inn. The rooms are quaint and have that "new" feel with all the essentials. You can tell they took the time to design this place with care. It is well lit and felt very safe. The price was a little high overall but manageable since breakfast was included. Definitely will return! read more

What a dump! They put us in a room next to the hotel cleaning crew's washer and dryer. They started washing and drying at 7am!! Humm, vibration and thumps resonated into our room. After a day of sight seeing we returned to the room a 6 pm and the washer and dryers were still running. The front desk refused to do anything about the noise except offer us another room! We don't want to have to pack our stuff and move! If the washer and dryer weren't enough, the party above us must be wearing clogs. They are constantly moving!! There's zero sound attenuation! It's ridiculously loud, nothing like we've ever heard before in a hotel. There's more! The tv is old and the lighting is deplorable. One switch controls 3 massively bright overhead lights. No lamps. Turn the overheads off and you're in the dark! We absolutely do not recommend Hotel Lumberjack!! Post note: We moved to another room, two doors down and the noise is no better. First room had wires hanging from the ceiling, the bed had wires and pieces from the ceiling on it with dirty footprints all over the bed. Second room the tv was out of service and the bathroom hadn't been cleaned. Third room they had a box fan set up on a chair because the AC/heat was out. It was 100 degrees. Do not stay here. It was a little confusing at first, that we had to check-in across the street, at a different hotel. But the other hotel was a historic experience. The staff was professional and friendly. We were also able to use that hotel's pool, and it was where breakfast was served. The second hotel was a benefit to the stay. It is VERY reasonably priced, fully remodeled, charming, clean, comfortable, super friendly front desk and helpful cleaning staff, nice little breakfast in the morning. (FYI: the tv remote is bedside, sitting UP, inside a sanitary holder :O) I read a review that "the breakfast was useless" - NOT We would like to thank the hotel for that extra amenity. We made hot waffles, their coffee was stronger and hot, I took an orange for the road. What do you expect from a FREE breakfast? Some people are so sad to leave a bad review for this hotel. Cozy, quaint motel in downtown Sonora. Excellent location that is within walking distance to several eateries, watering holes, and shops. Front desk, check-in located at Sonora Inn located right across the parking lot. Continental breakfast has basic starch items including a waffle maker. Hard boiled eggs, OJ, coffee, bananas, cereal, and prepackaged muffins also available. Front desk clerk was very helpful and kind. The property has obviously been renovated. I found the 2 queen room to be on the small side. I would not recommend this size room for more than 3 people especially if you have luggage. The wall AC/Heat is inches from the bed and is not quiet. Our shower had toenail clippings and hair in it upon arrival. The barn style bathroom door was also quite heavy and difficult to close. Easy parking right out front (motor lodge style). Sonora is conveniently located 90min from Yosemite. 50min from Dodge Ridge, and also near lakes, rivers, gold rush historical sites. Price is reasonable. read more

Our hotel room was clean, but the rooms are motel rooms with an IKEA remodel. The front desk was very friendly.

I came to Sonora with my wife and daughter. We checked in, and they gave us room 257. We walk back over to Hotel Lumberjack (check in and reception is actually at a different hotel across the street), go up to the room, and open the door to find wires hanging out of the ceiling, dirty bootprints on the bed, tools, and electrical debris. They're actively doing work on the room. I call the lobby, and the woman at the desk apologizes and gets us a room downstairs, room 157. She walks us down, and the bathroom wasn't cleaned and there's a sign inside saying the tv is out of order. She apologizes again and takes us to room 153. In 153, the AC is broken and they've put a box fan on a chair - on a 97F day, and I'm with a toddler. She apologizes again and says they're out of rooms. They can refund me or give me a discount. I wanted out. This place is awful. All 3 of those incidents in one day? That's not one error, that is clear indication of mismanagement and a hotel in disarray. Do yourself a favor and do not stay here, or at their parent property, the Sonora Inn. read more

Reserved a double queen at the Sonora Inn. After visiting the room which was a nice gesture, it happened that all double queen are located right above the crossroad of 49 and main street and noisy, so we were offered room at the Lumberjack hotel which is more like a motel type. It was definitely more practical to be unloading on a first floor room than taking an elevator, walking up and down, but the charm was not the same as the historical Inn. Charge was the same and arriving an hour early, we were charged a supplement of $35. August is generally very hot in Sonora, so we had to use the air conditioner right away. The AC was making a terrible noise. We tried to call the reception but the phone (the one in the room) was not working. We had to go there (across the street) and ask for another room. We got the room next door but were told that it was the last room we were offered! New room was alright. AC was alright. Beds were comfortable. Used the pool at the opening time 8:30 located across the street, but were told that generally nobody comes as early which does not make you feel welcome. Breakfast was nice. For the price, I would definitely check another place. read more

I checked into this hotel around midnight after a long day of driving and, at first glance, everything looked ok. After a quick shower we hopped into bed and immediately felt "stuff" on the sheets. We pulled back the blankets, there were dozens of curly pubic hairs, crumbs, dried chunks of what looked like skin (??). We promptly called the front desk who advised that we take a picture, send it to them in the morning and then maybe someone will change the sheets. I'm at a loss for words right now as we stand in the room at 2am without a clean bed to sleep on. The staff on hand literally told us to sleep on top of said pubic hairs and that "it's not his fault". So I guess it's mine?? But many files at breakfast which gives you severe diarrhea , toilet seat with shit on it.Sheet and pillow are dirty. The apples were left for several months. My family members had diarrhea after breakfast. 5) There are black stains on the toilet seat and stains all around the shower ,seems housekeeping never clean the bathroom. 6) The toilet is leaking, and you need to open the toilet lid and lift the float every time you use the toilet. 7) The air conditioner was so noisy that I couldn't sleep at night. read more

I booked this hotel before reading the Yelp reviews. Once I read the reviews, I was really dreading my non-refundable reservation and I was stressed about staying there. However, I had a better experience than other people reported. I booked two dates and stayed in two types of rooms, a double queen, and a single king. Both were upstairs so I didn't experience noise from overhead. Thankfully, I didn't hear my neighbors on either night. I inspected the beds for clean sheets and hunted for bed bugs before unpacking like I always do. Everything looked good. The bathroom was also clean. The floors in both bedrooms weren't so clean, but weren't any worse than other hotels I've stayed at. It's true that this place looks more like a motel since there are no internal hallways and the lobby is about 200 feet across the street, but this was not a big deal. The lobby staff was friendly and helpful. The continental breakfast was what you'd expect with muffins, waffles, fruit, boiled eggs, yogurt, coffee, juice, milk. The whole place has been renovated and looks modern now. Give this place a chance if you're staying in town. read more

Well it may not be the Ritz-Carlton but this place gets the job done. The Hotel Lumberjack is run by the adjacent Sonora Inn, which is where you go to check in. The rooms are warm, comfy, and clean. It's in Sonora so generally below the snow line, so it's easy to get around, and you can just walk from here to any of numerous restaurants. The included breakfast (with a waffle maker!) is a nice touch too. read more

Pros: Rooms are small but they have tried to use the available space well. Cons: This is a sister concern of Sonora Inn. You have to cross the street to get to another building for breakfast and registration. -Breakfast was useless. Very minimal items. - Our bedsheet in the room wasn't changed. Looked used and had hair. -Bathroom had empty bodywash bottle. Since it was late and one had to cross the road to go to reception, we took shower without soap. - water was hot just for the first person. The photos shown by Lumberjack Hotel (Motel) are of another hotel, you have to go to another motel to register, there is no registration desk! This is not a HOTEL, it is a MOTEL with exterior doors and windows that are flimsy. I stayed at this Motel as a single person, it is basically a dorm room, and did not feel safe, each night I physically moved a large piece of furniture against the door! The exterior building is in serious need of repair and tile replacement with visible crumbling. I won't be staying here again however, there are few options in Sonora. read more

Review for the night of 7/21/23. This is a sh*thole motel. We were charged $300 for a room worth maybe $100. A very strong odor hits you the moment you walk through the door. Like they used industrial strength room fresheners to absorb something they were trying to hide. Both the phone in the room and the Wi-Fi were out. I went to the lobby to get some help, and the the dyed blond guy at the front desk said he would call the maintenance guy and have him come to the room. I asked him to call while I was still in the lobby and he then said the guy had gone for the day. I then asked to speak to the manager and he said she was out to lunch so I asked him to have the person come by our room. That never happened so I went back to the lobby an hour later only to find out she had left for the day. That's when another person, a woman at the desk, told me the Wi-Fi had been out since the "power outage", something the original guy never bothered to mention. I then asked for compensation for the inconvenience. The desk woman said she would check in the morning and it never happened. Later on we found out that the bathroom sink was clogged but as the maintenance guy was already gone there was nothing that could be done to help us. The strong foul oder from the room followed us home in our bags and clothing. If you are on the first floor you will hear every movement the people in the room above you make. Every step, shuffle, hop, and skip. If you're like us, that will keep you awake until about 2am and then wake you up at around 6:30am. They knew the Wi-Fi was out when we checked in but acted like everything was normal. They knew the maintenance guy was gone but tried to make me believe they would have him come to the room to help. The blond guy made believe that the manager was on lunch when no such thing was happening. The staff here are pleasant when you first arrive, but it only takes minutes to find out that they don't give one crap about you or your problems. They lied to my face and blew me completely off. 7/22/23 update- Now that we're home my wife has discovered she was bitten repeatedly by bed bugs. That would explain the foul odor. Their weak attempt at controlling a bedbug infestation. Never, in all of our travels have we had such a horrible experience at any place of lodging as we did at the Lumberjack. Rooms were fine. Ice machines were out of order. Check in at 4 pm and checkout at 11 am. (19 hours is what you get when you pay for one day.) We were hot and tired when we arrived about 3 pm. Went to the desk which wasnt busy. This was the Monday after the 4th of July. The parking lot was almost empty. Whenever I arrive before check in time if my room was ready and available, I was allowed to check in early. Not at Lumberjack. They said I had to pay 35.00 per room for early check in (about 1 hour). I declined, and came back at 4. I read the hotel policy booklet after checking in. It advised you to inspect for anything missing or broken and to report it immediately. It said if anything was missing/broken when they check room after guest leaves, you will be charged. It even had a list of everything in the room, such as towels, bulbs, and even the plastic do not disturb sign you put on the handle. They list a ridiculously high charge for each item. Thank god no one stole my do not disturb sign while it hung outside my door. The staff were all nice, but the management policies are far from welcoming. Our family of 2 adults and 2 children originally booked a room at the Sonora Inn for Jan 1, but I received a call from the hotel 2 days before saying they overbooked and I had to be moved to their sister motel, the Lumberjack. Since it was short notice, I accepted the change. The 2 queen room was small, there were no bath towels, and the shampoo dispenser was empty. The bed sheets did not appear to be clean because I found hairs in them. Also, the barn style door for the bathroom was difficult to open and close because it was dragging on the floor. A bonus for the sportsperson, I'm told there's a great Fly Fishing shop around the corner. If all this wasn't enough, Hotel Lumberjack has the freshest, hippest, most cozy rooms in town. Redesigned by a Ukrainian architect firm, they overhauled the tired Roadway Inn into clean, beautiful, naturally lit spaces. It just opened, and I'm so glad I could book a room before it got known. As a writer, I spend a lot of time at my desk. Sometimes I need a change of scenery. Coming to the sister location, The Historic Sonora Inn has always proved productive, rewarding me with a nice meal at the end of the day. Their added site, Hotel Lumberjack, is even better. Hotel Lumberjack is equipped with an ergonomic desk, plenty of plugs, and strong wifi. It's a great place for remote workers who want to get stuff done during work hours and still relax in an enjoyable location. Highly suggest room 160, for it has a large window with a view of the town's creek. Very charming. read more

When we arrived we had walk to the sister hotel that was located across the parking lot and around the corner to check in. The staff was pleasant and the room was clean. The location is good as there are restaurants, bars, shops, a church and a park close by. There is a page in the information book in the room that states how much you will be charged for any items that are missing or damaged including the facial tissue box. There was no facial tissue box in our room and in the book, it stated they would charge us something like $25.00.... (Upon checkout I made sure to note that there was never a Kleenex box in our room when we checked in.) The walls are very thin and we could hear our neighbors as if they were in our bathroom. They were not especially loud, they were just talking. The continental breakfast was ok. They did have a waffle maker which was nice. It was very warm in the little area where the breakfast was served. No air conditioner, just a fan and the temps were in the 100's. We were charged 350.00 for a king room for one night that should have cost around $100.00. This is not worth the money at all. There are many more options in the area for a much more reasonable price. We were in town for a family party and I had relatives at the Sonora Inn, the sister hotel, and we wanted to be close. I will never stay here again and I do not recommend the Hotel Lumberjack in Sonora. To add insult to injury, my back was covered with itchy little bites when we left. read more

Booked and paid for a king suite as when we called to make the reservation, we were told that was all that was available. We arrived, checked in and paid, and we're assigned to room 264. It was a single room, not a suite. The safe in the room was not functional. There was what looked like dried blood on the left side of the mattress.When we informed front desk staff, we were offered $80 refund when we initially paid over $300 for one night. Additionally, we had received an email the day before check in saying our room was cancelled but didn't see it until the morning of check out. Our family was there for a wedding and we all apparently received these emails. Extremely unprofessional behavior as a call should have been made. Thankfully a different family member resolved the issue. Front desk staff made sarcastic remarks about said family directly to us at check in. We mentioned the last name of the family to ask where the reception was and she asked if we meant [family member name]. Then said "Wow, can't wait to meet her." And rolled her eyes. Great hotel, clean rooms, and awesome customer service from both front office clerks. I stayed their two nights in a row to avoid the stress of commuting in a snowstorm. Slept like a baby. Their provided toiletries did not irritate my sensitive skin. The only downfall was a very compact parking lot, which is the usual for Sonora or any old town. Still, there is such an improvement in our small town than the previous motel that was there, great renovation. Very reasonably priced for the quality of room. read more
