Attention all you dog owners! This review is for you! The hotel itself really is three stars. Things that you will enjoy with your pup: -Quick access to downtown -Some restaurants/shops dog friendly -Dragoon Gulch Things you will not enjoy with your pup: -The hotel itself is not dog friendly when it comes to amenities. There is no dog relief area close to the hotel and no grass within two blocks. -The rooms are small. Very small. You might be able to fit a crate in the corner, but that's it. -The very popular Natural Bridges Hiking Trail is not dog friendly. It's the only trail near the lake that is not dog friendly and of course it has to be the coolest one. -Downtown wasn't as busy as we had anticipated which was nice, it's still did not help that the sidewalks are extremely narrow and the road through Sonora is busy at all times. If you have a skittish pup, make sure you are on high alert Here's a review if you don't have a pup. The hotel is a sister hotel to the Sonora Inn. You have to walk across the street once you've parked to check-in and pick up your room keys. The continental breakfast is also served at the Sonora Inn. The breakfast is simple, having items like cereal, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, waffles, and coffee. Parking has to be the worst idea between these two hotels. The one and only parking lot for both hotels is the Hotel Lumberjack parking lot. If you are planning on walking around or going out on Saturday, make sure your car is parked in the parking lot by 6:00 PM or you will not get parking again. You will have to park on the street or somewhere on the main street. As aforementioned, even though these are dog friendly spaces, they are not thought with dogs in mind. Not having a simple relief area is ridiculous. The three stars really are for the parking lot and also for the paper thin walls. If we were you, we would ask for a second story room. The people above us had kids and were moving things back-and-forth, and it was impossible to sleep .

We've stayed in many Sonara hotels over the last 20 years. This one was our favorite. We had the King suite #206 in the corner. I was a nice size room, nice bathroom and shower, comfortable bed and nice sitting couch. You check in at Sonora Inn. Christina checked us in and she was very nice. The TV worked but the WiFi wasn't working so we wen't back to talk to Christina. She tried to reset it but it didn't work. She put in a work order ticket for repair; it was no big deal. Breakfast was ok. They have instant oatmeal, but no toppings line raisins or nuts. They had yogurt, hard boiled eggs mL, cereal, waffles, toast, juice, coffee and tea. It was a good stay overall.

We chose Hotel Lumberjack because we needed a place close to a wedding we attended. We toured the hotel months before to ensure it was clean and odor-free. The hotel had been refurbished, and we were happy to book after our tour. The wedding was on June 29th, and we were exhausted when we arrived on Saturday night. Unfortunately, there wasn't a single parking spot available. We called the hotel and were advised to park across the street at the Bank of America parking lot, as they have an agreement. This meant dodging a homeless person and traffic to cross the street. Upon entering our room (a king suite), we were hit with the smell of cigarette smoke, despite these being non-smoking rooms. With no other options, we opened the small windows (which were covered in cobwebs) to try and air out the place. We left as soon as we could in the morning and are now home, airing out our luggage and washing all our clothes. My advice: keep on driving. We really wanted to like this place, but it was a disappointing experience.

Cozy, quaint motel in downtown Sonora. Excellent location that is within walking distance to several eateries, watering holes, and shops. Front desk, check-in located at Sonora Inn located right across the parking lot. Continental breakfast has basic starch items including a waffle maker. Hard boiled eggs, OJ, coffee, bananas, cereal, and prepackaged muffins also available. Front desk clerk was very helpful and kind. The property has obviously been renovated. I found the 2 queen room to be on the small side. I would not recommend this size room for more than 3 people especially if you have luggage. The wall AC/Heat is inches from the bed and is not quiet. Our shower had toenail clippings and hair in it upon arrival. The barn style bathroom door was also quite heavy and difficult to close. Easy parking right out front (motor lodge style). Sonora is conveniently located 90min from Yosemite. 50min from Dodge Ridge, and also near lakes, rivers, gold rush historical sites. Price is reasonable.

The hotel only charged me for the night that I had missed, not for both nights. Appreciate the gesture.

Hotel was average. Paid $544 for 2 nights on a "discounted" wedding package. I would have expected way more services for that price.

I pride myself in leaving factual yelp reviews so here I go. -Location is PERFECTLY a short block away from the hustle bustle of the Main Street for coffee, bagels, meals, shopping, or maybe even a scoop of ice cream -Check in/out process was so warm and hospitable -We stayed in the Prospector Room because we were traveling with our dog, so took value in the private patio. Our room was cozy and spotless. Thankful for the AC unit as we visited on a hot weekend. Our dog enjoyed relaxing in the shaded patio. Our bed was comfy, more on the soft than firm, but did not hurt my back whatsoever. -OMG THE BREAKFAST. Kim is an UH-mazing cook. Perfect portion, flavor, not too heavy/complex, but certainly delicious. I am glad to have visited Sonora, but not sure if I'd make it an annual trip, to replace it with Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, or Napa. Nothing terrible happened, but I didn't have my socks knocked off either. Maybe it was the hot weather...not sure! If you plan on visiting Gold Country, do stay at the Bradford Place Inn and Gardens! We will.

Kim (Owner) was so wonderful, sweet and very accommodating to my wife's dietary needs etc., when preparing our delicious breakfasts. Each day, our breakfast was prepared fresh, warm and delicious. Breakfast (forgot to take a picture, too good to wait) included a protein, fresh fruit, warm pastries, ice water, orange juice and coffee. Just the right amount to get your day off to a good start... We loved this old Victorian home, it's beautiful. Some rooms, like ours, have a private patio area connected to your room. Very relaxing... Although, we don't have any pets, this place is "pet friendly". Next time, we're in the area, we'll be staying here again. Kim is such a gracious hostess and good person. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND you staying here... I found this place to be very reasonable, relaxing, beautiful and includes a delicious breakfast, compared to a typical "no tell motel"!!!

Breakfast had cheese omelettes, French toast-sticks, cereal, juice & fresh fruit. All tasty! The location is close to the freeway, but tucked away on a side street that is private. Because of that, it's much more quiet than the hotels along the Main Street in Sonora (15 minutes away). It is an hour and a half to Hetch Hetchy Dam, 15 minutes to Culver's Apple Farm in Tuolumne City, 8 minutes to Columbia and 3 miles from the BESTsourdough bread you EVER ate, from Two Acre Farms! First, the bed bug-protection mattress cover was compromised and showed signs of infestation. At least after we brought this to the staff's attention, they cheerfully moved us to a different room. However, now it's an all-around situation. The insulation in the second room's upstairs window was so dilapidated that we could clearly hear all street noise and barely got a good night's rest because of it. The filthy air conditioner leaked, so we had to be mindful to keep luggage, etc., clear of the surrounding floor. The bathroom needed a serious tile overhaul: leaky faucets, major cracks in the bathtub tile, and cracks in the stall ceiling. Again, this was once a nice place, which is why I returned for a second visit, which turns out to be my last until I see some substantial upgrades in the future. One positive thing I can say is that the staff is friendly and accommodating.

1/5 -- Extremely disappointing and unacceptable experience…read more We booked this hotel through Booking.com for our Yosemite road trip. After a long day of driving, we arrived expecting to rest for the night. Instead, we discovered fleas in our room and were bitten multiple times. We immediately reported the problem to the hotel management. Since we could not safely stay in the room, we had no choice but to leave in the middle of the night. What happened next was extremely stressful and frightening. We were exhausted, had already been bitten, and had to drive for approximately two more hours through an unfamiliar area in the dark, with little or no cell phone service, trying to find another hotel with availability. We finally arrived at Sierra Sky Ranch and checked in at approximately 4:30 AM. We had planned our entire road trip in advance, including our accommodations and budget. Because of this incident, everything was disrupted. We lost most of the night, got only a few hours of sleep, missed the breakfast included with our replacement stay, and had to make unexpected hotel payments. We were charged: * $310 at Sierra Sky Ranch ($210 room + $100 security deposit) * $236 at Holiday Inn ($186 room + $50 security deposit) * Total charged immediately: $546 Although the security deposits are expected to be returned later, this money was unavailable to us during our trip and created unexpected financial pressure. The flea bites have also continued to cause significant itching and discomfort, and we have documented the bites with photographs, as well as the conditions we found in the room. The hotel did refund the original booking through Agoda, but management considers that the end of the matter. In our opinion, refunding a room that was not safe to stay in is only the minimum that should be expected. It does not address the additional expenses, the health impact, the loss of sleep, or the major disruption this caused to our trip. We have already contacted Booking.com and provided documentation of what happened. We are also keeping all photographs, videos, receipts, and other evidence. This was one of the most stressful hotel experiences we have ever had. We booked accommodation so we could safely rest during our road trip, and instead we found ourselves, in the middle of the night, exhausted and bitten, driving through an unfamiliar area looking for somewhere else to sleep. I strongly recommend that travelers carefully consider this experience before booking this property.

The heater wasn't working and another guest commented how cold she was so he brought a mini heater to place near her. Very polite staff in general! It was a bit odd that we had to call someone's cell phone to get checked in, but no complaints there. Once I called she was prompt in providing assistance. We had a king sized room in the back and it was nice and quiet. From the outside we were a little bit skeptical, but it's fine once we got in. The room was absolutely freezing when we got in, but their heater works wonders so no need to feel like an icicle for long. The bathroom was large! I wish they had a full length mirror though so I didn't have to take pics like a total millennial to see how my outfit looked, haha. There's a stained glass window which was neat. The water pressure was fine...the water smelled old, but that's how all the water smells around here I've noticed from the other hotels we've stayed at. I hear it's old pipes. Anyway, overall, nice stay! Would definitely come back to try another room.

Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. We stayed in Room 14, which was advertised as having a queen bed, but it was actually a full-size bed. The room itself was very small, and while it contained beautiful antique furnishings, it felt neglected rather than charming. The window air conditioner was outdated and awkwardly installed, the shower barely drained, the toilet paper holder had been poorly glued back onto the wall, and the towel bar repeatedly fell off. The old wall heater also appeared outdated enough to raise safety concerns. Outside, the disappointment continued. The swimming pool was green, the grounds felt unkempt, and the property overall looked dirty and cluttered. Instead of feeling like a treasured historic inn, it felt like a place that has been left to slowly deteriorate. What makes this especially sad is the incredible potential this property still has. After returning to our room, I looked into the history of the Gunn House and found photos and information from the previous owners. It was evident they had intentionally preserved the hotel's historic character and created a warm, inviting atmosphere. Since the ownership changed around 2017, it appears that only the bare minimum has been done to maintain the property. Many of the photos currently used online seem to reflect the inn during its better years rather than its present condition. The Gunn House deserves better. It is a historic treasure with rich Gold Rush heritage, and it should be restored by owners who are passionate about preserving its legacy. With proper investment, thoughtful restoration, and professionals experienced in historic properties, this inn could once again become one of Sonora's crown jewels. Instead, it currently feels like a neglected landmark waiting for someone to bring it back to life. I genuinely hope that happens one day, because beneath the grime and deferred maintenance, you can still see glimpses of the beautiful hotel the Gunn House once was.

The weather was absolutely perfect, and there's just something special about unplugging and enjoying the beautiful scenery. The only downside is the reservation process. You have to book about a year in advance, and it can take a lot of phone calls before you get through. It would be nice if there were a waitlist or a more streamlined reservation system for returning guests. That said, we appreciate the old-school charm and usually just take whatever dates or cabins we can get when the opportunity comes up. Despite the reservation challenge, we keep coming back year after year because it's such a wonderful place to make family memories. It turns out the Victorian-inspired Barretta Gardens is overseen with a care as golden as the hue of sepia-colored days gone past and motherlodes once legendary for their bounty. Yet breakfasts are as simple, elegant and memorable as any contemporary B&B can boast. The proprietors Astrid and Daniel run an inn as refreshing as the Moroccan mint tea set out every afternoon to greet us from a hot day exploring Gold Country. We found Barretta Gardens flexible and welcoming to our two boys as well. Our only suggestion is that if they choose to turn off each room's A/C while guests are away for the day that they would turn it back on in anticipation for their return in the evening. Baretta Gardens B&B is a rare treasure I hope more visitors to the area will mine for years more to come.
