Very uneven grind. Re profiled the factory edge. Grind marks on the face of the blade

Brought in a couple of pocket knives to get the edges touched up. ( one had a micro chip and the other was just dull from use ) I've never done business with them prior to this experience and was hoping with them being a knife shop that they'd be able to take care of my concerns no problem. Nevertheless I walked away feeling worse than when I went in. They completely rounded the edges of both my knives and the grind was un even.

Damage done by Sonoma Cutlery during sharpening.

Do not get your cutlery sharpened here. I have been a customer of Sonoma Cutlery for at least 8 years. I usually bring most of my cutlery in to get sharpened once or twice a year. Several months ago I brought in my Dalstrong steak knives. When I picked them up, there were awful skip-marks all over the sides of a few blades. Clearly whoever was sharpening them was not doing it right or taking care. A couple weeks ago I dropped off a Santoku to be sharpened and brought in one of the damaged steak knives to show them. The young clerk offered to sharpen the Santoku for free.l which was great customer service. Unfortunately, when I picked up the knife today, we inspected the work and my knife was clearly damaged. When I complained to the owner, he basically dismissed my concerns and said this was unavoidable because of the thickness of the top of the blade. He actually said "what matters is that it's sharp". For someone who loves knives and sees the beauty in blades, hearing the owner of a cutlery shop say that is troubling. I left, walked to the car and turned around to go back and express my disappointment. I explained that the reason we were not charged for this service was because of the terrible job that was done on our steak knives. It seemed like he couldn't have cared any less. I know this particular knife is not some high-end piece of art. But it's special to me. When the manufacturer made this blade they had no issues sharpening it. Neither did Sonoma Cutlery the last 7 or 8 times they sharpened it. Every time I come in this store I try to buy something to support this local business. It will be very difficult for me to continue being a customer.

My Wusthof Grand Prix chef's knife and utility knife after Sonoma Cutlery sharpened them.

I dropped off my Wustoff Chef's knife and utility knife for sharpening 2 days ago. They were ready today on Friday. Both knives were sharpened professionally. My Chef's knife now slices through tomatoes cleanly and easily. My honing steel couldn't do the job, so it was wise to bring the knives in. Awesome place! The prices were super reasonable at $6 per knife. It's a full service retail store as well. When I have more time, I'll have to stop by to peruse the store. Highly recommend Sonoma Cutlery if your knives need professional sharpening!

I have a pocket knife that has a little serrated section so it's difficult to sharpen but no problem for them.

Running behind this year ahead of Thanksgiving, I needed an option that would be same day and every once in a while, my procrastination pays off in the form of a new, better option! I called George on the Saturday before Thanksgiving and asked if he could sharpen 45 knives and two scissors (basically all of our cutlery) same day if I dropped off at 9 am and picked up at 5 pm. I was shocked and happily surprised when he obliged. His shop is located on the side of his house and I met him in the morning and dropped off the knives as promised. He texted me early in the afternoon to let me know they were done. He was out front of his home waiting for me at 5 pm when I picked them up. My husband was so impressed at how sharp the knives were! When other reviewers say they're really sharp - they are (but in the best possible way)! Sharp knives are a joy to work with. We own primarily Wusthof and Henkel knives and we are so pleased with the quality of George's work. His prices are reasonable - especially considering the quality of his work and same day service! He cleaned all the knives after he finished. They were wrapped in paper and taped. Completely professional all the way! I cannot recommend George enough.

A fun and festive Christmas cooking class!…read more My cousin gifted me a cooking class this past Christmas with Chef Julie, and we had such an amazing time! It was my first time ever being inside of a Sur La Table so I was very excited (and a lil nervous tbh). My cousin and arrived promptly at 4pm, and were seated with a couple and one other lady at our table. This was a complete surprise for me, so I had no idea what to expect! But I saw the cast iron on the table and knew we were in for a treat. We prepared: - A side arugula salad with butternut squash and pomegranates, dressed with a maple dijon vinagrette. - Prime rib - Potato latkes served with apple sauce and sour cream. - Sweet potato bars with a gingerbread crust over a pomegranate coulis. Everything was so delicious and filling! Chef Julie and her sous chefs were great. They prepared everything like a dance. And although there were a few timing hiccups (because making prime rib in 2.5 hours is tricky!), my cousin and I had the best time cooking, eating, and enjoying each other's company. After finishing up and having our dinner, we all went into the store to shop. I absolutely HAD TO get the ratcheting pepper and salt mills that we used during our class. They are so ergonomically friendly, and the sound they make is just so satisfying! Lol. Highly, highly recommend getting these for your own home, or for a gift next holiday season! Special thanks again to Chef Julie, who created a fun and open atmosphere for all of us who attended. Will definitely be coming back again next time!
