My 6 year old daughter is just learning how to play the violin and the team at Sono set us up with everything we needed and showed great patience considering all of our questions. At the recommendation of our daughter's high school orchestra director, we visited Sono Strings, (first time was about a month ago, just 2 weeks after it's grand opening). When I walked in the door, I was greeted right away by Abraham, who was soon after joined by Jason. They were so friendly and made me feel at home. Their courtesy and enthusiasm really encourages you to take full advantage of so many services they offer, as a new customer. Today, we went back to follow up on our previous visit and spent over an hour with them, in addition to meeting with Connie, the owner. She's extremely helpful, super friendly, remembered that I had visited prior to today, and takes the time to get to know you and your needs. She offered to help with an upcoming fundraiser at the high school and offered to promote it for us! Sono's location is perfectly situated on El Camino Real and Grant Rd, in Mountain View. Lots of light from the store window to keep it bright and inviting. I love the artistic, handcrafted decor! The open floor plan is super neat and clean, showcasing beautiful violas, violins, cellos, etc., with several private teaching rooms - much bigger than most music stores I've seen. Connie says she hopes it encourages families to join in on student lessons. I know our family will be signing up for piano, violin and guitar lessons very soon! We love Sono!!! We have been renting a 1/2 sized bass for my daughter for several years and a few months ago the instrument started to show signs of delamination and other issues relating to some faulty adjustments. I took it in for repair and Jason repaired it so that it was in better condition than when we first rented it at no charge! Such customer service is very rare in this day and age. read more

When we arrived to have my son's Cello strings changed we were warmly greeted by the staff. The staff were very knowledgeable about the type of strings that his Cello should have and even let him try 2 types of strings to see which one he would like better. Staff are very professional and very nice, the best customer service in this area. I was planning to buy a new bow or change the hair of the bow as it is too dirty, end up they help me to find the best solution with lowest cost that they clean the hair for me. They even let my five years old son to try and play the violin there for a long time before we made decision on renting the violin or not, I have brought my 5 yrs old to the other store nearby, the staff gave a bad eye on my 5 year old boy when he tried the violin. In addition, the violins are very new compare with other rental store, I am not a professional in music so I can't write the review about the quality of violin, but I like the sound of the violin there too. read more

I shopped around to rent a student cello, and they are renting higher quality instruments at the same rate that other shops rent lower quality instruments. It's been about 8 years since I played violin and I recently picked it back up. I was in need of a new violin and having never bought a violin from an actual shop, I felt intimidated, a little lost and not completely sure what to look for. After calling a couple shops in my area, I decided to call Sono Strings. I spoke to Jason, a luthier at the shop, and he was very kind over the phone and told me price ranges and answered some questions I had. The next day I traveled about 1 hour and 30 minutes to check out some of their violins. I was really anxious and a bit nervous not knowing what to expect (the only violin I had ever purchased was a violin that I bought from a pawn shop in middle school). As soon as I stepped foot into the shop I was greeted. Jason had remembered speaking to me the day before and began helping me. He allowed me to test out about 10 or so violins that were in my price range. I tried out each violin in one of their practice rooms and spent about 3 hours carefully choosing the right violin. Once I found the violin for me jason brought in a ton of bows for me to test out. Another guy (I didn't get his name) had helped me decide between two violins that I was stuck between and also helped explain to me the differences between bows when I was unsure of what to look for. When it came to picking out a case for my new violin Connie and Jason were both helpful and gave me a few options to choose from. Overall, I really loved the customer service I received from all three of the employees in the shop. They were very patient with me, informative, and kind. My experience with Sono Strings greatly exceeded my expectations and was well worth the hour and 30 minute drive. The daunting task of purchasing a violin quickly became an enjoyable process once I walked into Sono Strings. I would recommend them to anyone looking to purchase or rent a violin and will be going to them for any future violin needs. read more
