Great service and selection of sheet music is extensive. One of the few music stores left. read more

Used to visit when store was on 262 Castro, about 1 mile from new location. Bought my first electric guitar and Pignose amp here. Helpful staff and fair prices. So rare to have a local music store nowadays. I have to go here or Allegro in Fremont, both about 11 or 12 miles away, but a lot more traffic getting to Mountain view. read more

We rented a half size cello for my daughter and they taught her how to play it just enough to get a sense for it. They were so nice and knowledgeable. Unfortunately, I knocked it over when we got home and the fingerboard popped off. So we brought it in the next morning and they exchanged it for a new one at no cost! read more

Highly recommend this business for their excellent service and shopping experience. They have a lot of selection and make you feel welcomed and valued. Lina was awesome and was so helpful and courteous! Will definitely return! read more

Knowledgeable and helpful staff; well stocked with all standard music books for children and adults, good prices.

Very friendly service. Very helpful with instrument rentals and with flexibility with student dates. We needed a French horn and had to travel here to pick one up and they understood that bringing it back would need a little wiggle room. read more

We have been renting for 2 years now from West Valley Music. Everyone who works here is very friendly and gives great suggestions. They are excellent with repairs and are very knowledgeable. read more

Walked in one day to get an electrical cord for my amplifier (unfortunately mine broke earlier that day) and walked out with... an electrical cord and acoustic guitar. I do have to say, I walked into a Guitar Center earlier that day and tried out a bunch of guitars, but couldn't find *the* one. The staff at West Valley Music were so incredibly knowledgeable and checked on me as I was playing around with different guitars. I really felt like I was at a personal shopping appointment with the way they spoke to me and answered all my questions. Not sure how busy they get regularly though. However, I'm definitely trusting them with my future music needs. Thanks! read more

I have come here to purchase piano books for my daughter's lessons. Good service, good prices, and % of proceeds go to your school of choice. Highly recommended. I love supporting local businesses. read more

I love coming here and have been a return customer for possibly 3 years now. They always have a large selection of books to choose from. Without hesitation you can be allowed to play through some piano books in one of the practice rooms and see which books are best suited to your abilities. Above all else, everyone who has been working here consistently demonstrate top tier customer service. Their knowledge of books, where to find them, among so many other excellent qualities keeps me proud to keep coming back every chance I get to find new books to study or play through. I will never tire coming here and am grateful to have such a warm and welcoming place where I am most happy. Thank you West Valley Music for continually providing such wonderful memories. read more

EXTREMELY good service. Wide variety of instruments and prices. Selection very wide. The people who work there are too nice.

I went in with a lot of questions. They very considerately answered them all, and suggested ways to proceed regarding servicing and purchase of a new instrument. read more

What a great HUGE new location for this long-time music icon on the Peninsula. Easy access on El Camino with free parking. The selection of music is mind-blowing. A wonderful place for musicians, young and experienced, to get beautiful sheet music, and any music supplies needed, as well as instruments and advice. Shop locally and love the people who love our community with their many years of kind service. read more

À real treasure for all musicians in the Bay Area! Let's keep small business alive. Very wonderful people work there and the new store has much to offer for students and professionals ! Diana Tucker the owner is a great musician herself, so knowledgeable and pleasant. Laurie Benson is an expert flute teacher and librarian. read more

I came here to buy a recorder and was a little nervous. But as I soon found out there was no reason to be nervous because everyone here is very kind! I had a couple of questions and Tracy was very nice and patient with me. She even let me try out the soprano and alto recorders to see which one I liked more. If I ever need anything music related in the future I will most certainly return. Excellent customer service (and the recorder was only around 8 dollars, which was excellent for a broke person like me. Hahaha) read more

West Valley Music has a variety of music sheets and I am extremely happy that I found what I was looking for today. Today, I visited three other music stores, and not a single store had what I was looking for. Thank you so much for saving my trip! read more

Just want to give a shoutout to the wonderful team and excellent service at West Valley Music. I've been a customer for many years: instrument rentals, instrument purchases, lessons, sheet music, etc. They sell good quality instruments at fair prices and always offer good service. The owner Diane is very courteous and always go above and beyond to help me and my family out. She is very patient and provide information that we need to make our decisions. I really enjoy coming to West Valley and supporting this business. read more

Awesome place , nice people and great collections of books . It had easy parking and I highly recommend this place

Growing up, it seem like there were music stores like this all over the place. I guess in this day of internet shopping, these are a dying breed. I'm glad this place still exists. Sure, I could find my kids' Suzuki books online, and probably cheaper, but there's a certain joy that comes with browsing through a music store, thumbing through sheet music and books that I wouldn't otherwise find unless I put in the right keywords into an Amazon search. They have lots of piano, violin, and cello music of different genres and levels of ability. I can't comment on the availability of other instrumental music, but I recall seeing plenty of guitar music, for example. They have instruments on display, but I have not purchased or rented from them so I don't have an opinion about this. The staff is exceptionally helpful. I went in recently looking for a particular accessory that I wasn't sure actually existed. Sure enough, they knew exactly what I needed and while they didn't have it in stock, they took down my name so they could place a special order for me. read more

After eight months of playing the cello, trading cellos and changing back to the original cello- I made the decision to purchase the cello. The team at West Valley were perfect through every interaction. I love this place and recommend it to anyone for their musical needs. read more

They always act like I'm suspicious. Never mind I'm a professional musician and never mind the fact that I'm a music teacher in town. The woman who I assume is the manager always seems to be so touchy about how I handled the music as if I'm going to ruin everything. I'm sorry I'm taking too long to browse lady but clearly there's other customers here that you can ask 5 million times if they need help and you don't need to Spotlight the only person of color in your store. I played my instrument since I was four and I am 32 years old. I have experience in the music industry from work in Los Angeles, and I played in some reputable stuff in television and other entertainment, but that all goes out the window when I go to the store and I'm treated like I'm going to steal something. I no longer am going to refer my students to buy music here because they can't treat everyone equally here. This kind of crap is what kills local businesses and maybe you should straighten your attitude and not be such an uptight witch. read more

Today I called to purchase a flute I've been renting for years. I expected to pay full price even though I have paid so much in rental fees. They gave me a discount and free maintenance since it hasn't been serviced in 3 years. West Valley goes above and beyond. In addition, their staff is knowledgeable about sheet music and skillfully find things appropriate for your level. They're all warm and approachable. Also, they offer plenty of music instruction as well as posted community resources like music instructors and playing groups in the area. They also have cute gifts and trinkets for music lovers. read more

Great customer service, will definitely go back for all my music needs for my children.

I know that there are a lot of negative reviews about this place, but I have a few things I would like to point out about one of my favorite places in MV: - Repairs always take a long time, especially when you are one of the best technicians in the Bay Area. Imagine going to a world-famous restaurant. You don't get a seat just because you are hungry, right? If you don't think that is a proportionate analogy, just ask which celebrity saxophonists, flutists, trumpet players, etc. come in and specifically ask for Colin. I know for a fact that they always two their best to serve you as quickly as possible. AND, I have seen them bend over backwards to ensure you don't miss a gig, rehearsal, or recording because your horn is in the shop. - Even though they don't have every piece of music you are looking for all the time, they have one of the best selections of sheet music in the South Bay. And, if they don't have it, they can get it for you about as fast as your ordering it on Amazon and having it shipped to your place. - A knowledgeable and courteous staff is the entire reason for supporting a brick-and-mortar business and these guys do not disappoint. You really can get anything online these days, but you cannot have the expert council that is offered by this gang anywhere. Plus, they really do have your best interest at heart when you ask them for a recommendation. I cannot tell you how many new students of mine have gone in not knowing what to get, and come to their next lesson with great new music, a solid instrument, and a great experience at a local business. I seriously don't know what I would do without this shop. As one of the few shops like this in the bay area, I think that they handle the needs of an IMMENSE client base with exceptional care and service. read more

The staff at West Valley is consistently surly and not very helpful. I went yesterday to pick up some staff paper and I heard one of the staff loudly complaining about just how annoying it's been with the back-to-school rush. You'd think they'd want customers. When the store is quieter and I've asked for help it's never been helpful. The best example is when I asked if they had a book called "Musical Theatre for Classical Singers", and they pointed me to a book called something like "Classical Musical Theater" and insisted that they were indistinguishable because "well, how different can the songs be". Of course, they are more expensive than online, and fail to make it up with any advantage. read more

I like this place. I buy all my kids piano books here...the staff here are very helpful.

Pros: Nice customer service people, pretty good supply of sheet music and instrument supplies. Cons: Repairs are very slow. I was told a week and a half on a fairly simple repair that probably would've taken someone about 15 minutes. If I could've gotten the part I really would've just figured out how to do it myself...next time I guess that's what I'll do. Oh and they tried to upsell me too, telling me I needed a whole conditioning of my instrument when I'd just had it conditioned about 2 months ago. Not to mention that after over 2 weeks, my instrument had been repaired and they didn't even bother to call me back to let me know. Really the main things they have going for them are their customer service people and location. I likely will not go back to them for repairs unless I absolutely can't do it myself. They should really hire an additional repairman. There's obviously demand for the service to warrant it... read more

Very nice store with a large selection of products and many rooms for music lessons. I have bought a number of instruments from them and have always had good service and decent prices. I taught at a school where West Valley Music provided all the rental instruments and they were good quality and the service was awesome. I can't speak to the repair part of the business. I know several of the teachers there and they are well respected musicians. read more

We went in to see what type of flutes are available for beginners. The lady (Tracey) greeted us and spent time explaining different options including renting, leasing or buying. She also showed us the available flutes and gave my daughter the opportunity to touch and feel them in her hands. Tracey was super patient and made us feel very comfortable. She also wipe down the instrument we were purchasing again before putting them back to the box. (Which was a nice gesture). We also got the required book and wiping soft clothes. We were told the school district also get a percentage of the sales back. :) read more

So, I bought a didgeridoo . . . . . . . . . . You ask how and why? It was for my fiance's 1st Christmas - with me. Walking in, my mom had already put in the thought that I should buy him a thumb piano. When I picked up this tiny instrument with my tiny hands, I knew it would not be so great for his gigantic ones. Luckily, the staff was happy to help me look at all the interesting instruments. Since he already plays the piano, has done takio, and occasionally plays on his ocarina - I knew he needed something different. At first, I was set on the triangle - yep, because we have a joke about it. Then it was the rain stick that looked more modern and seemed a more better bet for our decor. But I was drawn to the weirdness of the didgeridoo . . . . . and in orange and red no doubt (his favorite colors). After speaking with the staff, they were nice enough to help me and answer all my questions. I have also bought sheet music here and there was a huge selection for four hands - awesome! We even got this weird Lady Gaga piece - sweet! Awesome music and instrument selection. Awesome staff! read more

Very nice service. Stocks scores of most cello repertoire. I needed to replace my cello mute and they have it in stock too.

I highly recommend this place if you are looking for an instrument especially a professional model. I bought a professional clarinet from here a while ago and whenever I had a problem the manager personally took care of me. She even offered to lend me her own clarinet when I had to get the clarinet adjusted and ship my clarinet to me after it was finished! Overall, I had a very accommodating and positive experience. read more

My favorite music store in the Bay Area. I found my forever horn here, a beautiful Selmer Mark VI tenor, at a great price and with amazing service from Diana and her team. For 5 years, I bought all my reeds and accessories here, and was so excited to come back last week after we moved back to th east coast, and find s inch an amazing sax. Super friendly and helpful staff! I had an urgent string (I'm a beginner student of violin) situation on a Sunday and looking online I found West Valley available and open, YAY! I spoke to them on the phone first to see if they you could help me and they were so kind and confident that they could. I was in and out within a few minutes and they had quite a few customers in the store, too! I didn't get to browse the store but from what I could tell it's fairly large with a diverse selection of musical instruments and accessories and studio rooms for lessons. Thank you so much! I will definitely return! read more

Purchased two clarinets for my daughters here. One of them had a poor quality mouthpiece and the tone was too flat to be in tone. They replaced the mouthpiece for free after my daughter's band teacher contacted them. So I didn't complain. Now the other clarinet has a broken spring after one year's play. I called the store in advance and was told the technician's not in, but they could take a look. Since it should be a easy fix, I drove in but no one even take a look at it and I was told to come back after the technician's back after 1.5 weeks. I don't think I would purchase any instruments from them anymore. read more

I recently purchased a Tenor Sax from West Valley Music. As a semi-pro player returning to the music scene after many years away from it, I needed to take my time choosing a horn. The entire process of trying various instruments over a period of a few days was made easy by the staff of professional musicians who made it easy for me to come to a final decision, write a check, and take home my new Sax. I return to the store on regular basis to rent practice space, purchase reeds, etc. I like that West Valley Music is one of those clean, well lit places for all my music needs. read more

This review is just for trying to get my instrument repaired. They haven't actually repaired it yet, so I can't comment on the quality of the work, but it has been quite the hassle to even get to the point where they would agree to make an appointment to repair it. I brought the instrument in and left it for two days - the repairman doesn't work on weekends, so those have to be band practice days - before calling back to ask when it would be done. I was informed that the repairman had looked at it and made an estimate. Now I could either choose to make a repair appointment, or try to have them work it in. That would mean leaving it with them for at least a week. I need this instrument during the week, so I asked for an appointment. They will give me one in three weeks. I would need to get it there during work hours during the week, and leave it for two to three days. All this for a single valve issue on a brasswind. Could I not have simply made the repair appointment in the first place, and saved the trip and lost time? Certainly not, that is not something they will do. Nor will they tell you how much of your time they will waste before actually setting a time to do the work, or that you will need to keep calling them back to find out if your instrument is done because they don't call you to let you know. Try someplace that is a little more aware of musicians' needs. read more
