This was my first time in this salon and it WILL BE MY LAST!!! The nail polish is very cheap! I got a pedicure basic and a fill in with no chip polish. I got there at 6:15 pm on a Thursday and all my polish chipped and pealed by Saturday! It seems as if the polish was nearly empty and Lee added water to it. I didn't bother going back because I work very long hours and I didn't want to argue with them . NEVER EVER WILL I RETURN!!! Terrible!!! TOTALLY WASTE OF MONEY!!! read more

I got a full acrylic set done here. They look great. I wanted an ombre design but she said she could not do that, but she ended up doing another design. She also could not do a design I wanted with glitter either. I am not sure what her name was, but I would want to see someone else there next time I went. Nice place though and was good work. Chose this location due to Yelp rating and reviews. Arrived at 6:50pm... 40 minutes before closing. They were open, all lights on. Two employees on duty. Was informed they were closed because of the weather (Raining, 36 degrees, about 2" of melting snow on the ground). This was our first, and last visit to Sonny's. Whatever their actual service, we'll never know. I don't take my business where it's not appreciated. Went down the street to Salonmax. They were open, all attendants on duty, and were happy to serve us, and the 4 other customers in the salon. read more

Awful experience. Paid $40 for powder dip at 11:30 am. By 8 pm I noticed 1 nail Polish has completely lifted. By 10:30 pm my nails looked like this ( photo below). I called the next morning to report the problem. The person on the phone tried to push me back for two days to fix the problem. When I insisted time be made to fix it, he told me to come in. Tammy greeted me and again tried to push me away until later. After explaining I had work she told me to walk my hands and have a seat. I am sitting here now waiting for service. I give 0 stars however I had to pick one star to post this review. I visited Sonny's Nails this past weekend pre-mother's day. I must say first off, the staff members were running around and very rude. My elderly family member who received a pedicure from Tammy said she was rough on her and Tammy was told that. She instantly got angry and when I asked if somebody else could do her pedicure I was told it was too late. Tammy continued her same abrupt movements and my elderly family member said just let it go. I was very upset to bring my 97 year old family member and have her treated that way. Tammy and staff where is your sense of decency. I have never had such a horrible experience at a nail salon and would not recommend Sonnys Nails to anyone. read more

This place I have been to several times and they do not know how to manage the flow of the customers, they are super slow and I waited in a chair for over 40mins and nobody even came and put water in the foot bath. The place was not even crowded and it was workers available but they didn't even want to work on my feet. If you are in a rush do not come to this place because they do not know what working efficiently means. Got my nails done the very first time here! So great, the guy doing my nails was nice and did a good job. Yet there was an incident where he scraped at my skin they put this polish over it and it burned quite a lot, but it went away so that' fine I guess. I went to Sonny's and got a fine pedicure. It seemed like a pretty standard experience compared to the other one-off places I've been when in desperate need of a toe-touch-up. The interior of the building is a little dingy - old carpet, little to no decoration, and a few rips/tears in the chairs. Those are the main reasons for my lower score. Otherwise, the staff was friendly and I appreciated that they had a brochure explaining their different types of pedicures so that I didn't accidentally get stuck with the $50 one. They also provide complimentary water. Like i said, it was fine, but probably not a place I would choose to frequent. read more

Please do not patronize this salon!!! Highly disappointed in the customer service. One of the technicians pulled skin (cuticle on a toe) which caused light bleeding she barely spoke English and proceeds to put blue stuff on it (we believe antiseptic)and later wanted to spray alcohol on the cut - but what's most frustrating is no explanation as to what the solution was or supposed to prevent. The pain was so aggravating that we decided not to get manicures but leave after the pedi. Eventually other workers came over to offer apologies and hope that the bleeding stopped stating this type of incident occurred all the time. After the service was rendered (five min later of light bleeding still existed) the manager insists on full payment of my friends inconvenience. Really???! A pleasant encounter just took place from a regular customer and then you want full payment of service???? Not only that but then he (the manager) goes on to say "$5 off" really?!!!! How about sorry our mistake for your pain and customer experience at our salon we value you we want your business and that of everyone you know? Instead he literally starts shooing us away with his hands saying "get out -we know your kind" don't ever come back here" loud and in front of everyone. It was sad to see his real thoughts towards us and a race of people We make more than $25 a hour so to pay for a $25 pedicure was nothing it was the principal of the error on their part, customer service/guest experience and apparently true thoughts on African American people. Even after I paid for my service he continued to yell " don't come back you're not welcome here any more - we know your kind you just wanted a free service" This is one of those times I wish I were a judge or governor or chair of a city department. I agree with Jen B... Avoid this place at ALL cost! I moved into the area & was looking for a nail salon. I found this place on Yelp & read the reviews so I decided to give it a shot. I called to place an appt but on Saturdays they don't take appt's. I should of known from that point that my Patience would be tested.. I waited almost an hour to get my mani/pedi & they were taking customers that came in after me. The guy that did my nails was ok but I had to instruct him on filing & nail color on the WHOLE nail. The icing of the cake was another guy @ the salon started laughing at me. The station I was at didn't have a pedicure dryer I guess I was using the one from across me.. Today was my first time going here and I will not be returning. I have never experienced such bad service at a nail salon. I accompanied my sister for a mani and pedi and Kim did her nails. She was very rude. When we were choosing our color she told us "hurry up! What are you doing?!" Several times. We had literally just walked up there and probably looked for less than a minute. I asked Kim a question about the nail polish 3 times and she looked away and ignored me. My sister and another customer both exchanged looks with me bc she had clearly ignored me. I also was very confused and shocked at her and another male nail techs behavior. He looked at me and I looked back at him expecting him to ask me something. Instead he spoke in another language still staring at me. Kim then looked up at me as well and said something back to him. They continued talking about me and looking at me as they talked. Very obvious. I don't mind them talking about me in another language. What I mind is how rude and obvious they were. From the moment we walked through the door there was no greeting or any type of customer service. Kim seemed annoyed that we didn't move at her quick pace and expected us to know everything even tho it was our first time there. We even requested someone else do her manicure but they ignored that request as well. I will also note that we asked her not to use that tool that scrapes the skin off of the foot because this salon did not look clean at all. The tool was on the floor and was full of crusty nasty skin from a previous customer and that's the one she tried to use!! Gross. I couldn't believe it. Also I observed that after a customer was finished all she did was rinse the area with water, threw a different dry towel on top and it was ready for the next customer. No sanitation happened at all. I would seriously advise anyone who cares about sanitary practices and to be treated with respect to go somewhere else. I will never return and will tell everyone not to come here as well and I'm not the type of person to even leave negative reviews. That's how you know this place was horrible. read more

Tammy and lee are both good. My nails look really good when they do them, and they're super fast even with gel nails. I've also had leg waxing done with Tammy and shes done a really good job. The whole staff very personable and friendly. With other nail techs I have had some issues though -- gel nails coming off over just a couple days, lots of mistakes, cuts, etc. so it's up in the air sometimes. Overall this place is clean, big, well ventilated, and has lots of really nice polish, especially a wide selection for gel colors. read more

I should have known better. I was in Sonny's Nails several weeks ago and walked out after being left to sit in the chair soaking my feet for 2 hours. I have been a long time customer of Sonny's, so I figured I would give it another shot. Tammy really does good work so I am always prepared to wait a bit as they don't take appointments. I walked in at 6:50 and at 8:05 (yes you read that right), I was told by my nail tech Tammy that she would not have time to work on me. I wasted my whole Tuesday night waiting only to get treated like a jerk AGAIN. Shame on me for going in again after being treated poorly last time. I think they are always busy and so they don't care if you walk out. But if they keep treating long term customers the way they have treated me, they won't be that crowded for long. This was the first time my daughter and I tried Sonny's Nails. I think it may be the last. My daughter had checked prices on their website before we arrived. No chip manicure - $25, gel fill-in - $23. We thought those were reasonable rates. However, as my daughter started her no chip manicure, the manicurist started asking her questions as to the previous place of service. My daughter replied where she had been and that she had been charged $25. The manicurist said that they charge $30. Ok, we can live with that. I brought my own nail polish for the gel fill-in. I was told I had to use the no chip polish. I didn't really get a reason why, but ok. Unfortunately, the manicurist nicked my cuticle twice. I got charged $35. Not sure why and it was my fault for not asking. We needed to be at another engagement and needed to leave. After we left, I had my daughter call and ask about a full set gel and was told $30. I feel I was scammed. I suggest asking prices before you start your nails. I also suggest that they update their website if prices are not correct. read more

I got a manicure and pedicure and never have I ever had a more painful pedicure. She was rough on my feet and legs during the massage. I also had my nails painted white and once she put on the top coat it turned the nails an off white yellowish color. She also kept painting over the nails I accidentally messed up so they never dried properly. My cuticles are also peeling and my nails look like shit. read more

I have mixed feelings. They've always done an acceptable job regarding mani and pedis IF you only want colour. If you're looking for designs, go elsewhere. I've shown them dyi pictures of designs and they couldn't do it. Last time I pulled a picture off their own site and the woman actually looked at me like I was crazy. I pointed out that it was from their site and and she said she couldn't do it. I let her do her own thing and it looked terrible. By this time she was obviously tired of doing my nails and rushed through a simple design. I had to fix them myself to look like someone over 5yr old did it. I have never had a worse pedi-mani in my life. When the man who did my pedicure would get polish in places it didn't go, he would dig in my nailbed with his fingernail to get it out. He left the ends of my toes with a red hue where he swabbed the nailpolish off unsuccessfully. When he did the manicure, he actually CUT my finger when he trimmed my nails to the point it was bleeding. The nails were cut down to the point that four of my fingers hurt. They were not filed to and evenly, or even at all. You could not pay me to go back to this place, as it was torture. read more

I was not satisfied with the pedicure I received.. I got the deluxe pedicure which was far from being deluxe.. after the person finished with everything as far the warm oils and the hot rocks, hot towels that was fine, but my complaint is that she never buffed out my toenails...so as she was polishing my toenails I noticed that the polish was looking lumpy and I mentioned it to her, but she said oh it would smooth out after she added another coat of polish: well it didn't smooth out.. Only 4 doing both manicures and pedicures, my nails were jaggedy after filed I had to ask her to do them again, thumb nail was filed crookedly and lady didn't see it after I pointed it out, didn't get her name. I was out of town in Lynwood for work and I was going to be there a month so I drove around and came across this place, when I walked in they looked organized and neat. Their prices were fair a little bit more then what I pay back home in San Francisco but they did a great job and were very pleasant. I'd definitely recommend them. The atmosphere was nice and the employees friendly. However, my previous acrylic nails were ripped off (pretty painful) because soaking would take "too long." Also, my nails were filed so low that when the gel was put on and dried, the nail beds started bleeding. It freaked me out and I did some research afterwards. Turns out that your nails can be permanently damaged or prone to infection if filed too low. We'll see when the gel comes off. read more
