Haven't been to Sunny's in a while so decided to go. It has been recently remodeled as well. We were seated right away a the server came and took our drinks so far so good. We started looking at the menu and noticed it had changed. Things taken off and stuff added. Along with different combos. I definitely like the old menu better. Well my husband ordered sliced pork and which came with only 1 side now verses 2 before and with price increases. I had the Cobb salad with chicken at least that's what i ordered but that's not what I got. Apparently there are two different barbecue salads on the menu. A barbecue salad and a barbecue cob salad. I ordered the barbecue Cobb salad but got the other one instead. It's OK I wasn't going to complain and ate it anyway. The chicken on the top wasn't that great it was very hard. Not sure what's going on with Sonny's because it was a regular spot for us and the food was always great. I'm not trying to beat them up. I'm just very disappointed. Also my granddaughter's food was OK. Her garlic toast was so hard that you broke it in half and It was like powder. Then at the end of her meal she wanted her ice cream, but apparently they don't do that anymore either even though it was on the menu . So my four-year-old granddaughter was very upset. We ordered two Grill Cheese BBQ sandwiches for lunch. There was so much fat in them that the bread was soaked. Hubby couldn't eat his, nearly threw up. I picked the clumps of fat from mine and not exaggerating at all, about 1/2 of the content, was fat. Ribs are normally pretty good. Don't order their Grill Cheese. read more

With our past history at Sonny's, we wanted to stop in when we first got to town. We had ribs and smoked wings, and ribs with brisket. Both meals were very tasty and the sides were great. I had a good beer and we had sweet tea. We had plenty to bring home to our temporary home. Also, you can drink as much sweet tea as you want in the restaurant and they will still give you a large one to go. We stopped in again a few days later for a takeaway. We recently catered an event for approximately 325 people, and Sonny's BBQ in Palatka did a fantastic job. We ordered a smoked chicken and pulled pork combo along with mac and cheese, green beans, coleslaw, cornbread, and dessert options that included homestyle banana pudding and peach cobbler. Everything was hot, fresh, and delicious. The catering setup was fast and efficient, and the service was outstanding. Most impressive of all, we were able to feed everyone in about 20 minutes, which is no easy task with a crowd that size. The staff was organized, professional, and clearly experienced with large events, and the food was a big hit with our guests. Sonny's BBQ is located at 425 N State Road 19 in Palatka, Florida, and we truly appreciate the great service and quality they provided. I drove by this one a few times thinking I'll stop sooner or later? Well I finally went In and boy was it good. I had the pork trio which included sliced pork, pulled pork and pork ribs along with two sides, mine being coleslaw and beans! Also my favorite drink, unsweetened tea! We had a party of 6 for lunch. It was very crowded. The large tables had not been cleared out from the previous diners. These tables sat dirty while our party, 2 other groups of 6 and 1 of 5. This is an excellent Sonny's BBQ! The food is awesome and consistent. I have eaten here many times and had the beef sliced sandwich and the sliced beef dinner and they are in my opinion ranked with the best I have eaten! They also have excellent service. The drive thru is also fast for a BBQ restaurant. I highly recommend this place! Returned for some more beef and turkey!!! Very good 10 out of 10 for both! And I grade hard! However got the smoke wings and ouch, not good, 2 out of 10 at the best . The garlic bread, coleslaw and potato salad were perfect, love them! The cornbread muffin was delicious! Ok I was in the mood for barbecue traveling from Ft. Meyers to St. Augustine. Stopped here because when I lived in Florida this was the go to place. Disappointed. Brisket was fatty and chewy and the whole meal disappointed and the meat was dry. The brisket was the worst I've ever had. They put literally 5 small pieces of brisket on the plate and it was terrible. Prices aren't cheap. The glasses of iced tea are huge and I liked them. The fried pickles were SUPER dill and it took a few for my tongue to get with the picture. I had the ribs and pulled pork with beans and broccoli. The broccoli still had crunch and the beans were full of flavor. The ribs were tender, fall off the bone perfect. The pulled pork was dry and I definitely won't choose that again. My biggest complaint is the restaurant REEKS of pee! Like, I couldn't WAIT to leave. I only went because my family is unnecessarily obsessed with this place and I visited from out of state so didn't want to cause any issues. Attempted to have a meal on Sunday, there were about 6 tables at 4pm. Ordered rib plate and sliced pork. Order took 20+ minutes to arrive and everything was room temp or cooler. The server asked if we needed any thing when they delivered the food. I replied " fresh hot fries please". 15 minutes later the server approached and said"oh you never got your new fries?" I said no and I informed the meal was horrible, cold meats, cold fries and garlic bread that was so old it was only 1/4 in thick. I asked for the manager but she never came to the table, she did however comp the meal through the server. Sad is that I didn't care about a comp I just wanted a hot meal for A restaurant company I grew up with. The new owners of this franchise have let the brand down. We waited for almost an hour AFTER we were seated to receive 1. The order was incorrect, the sandwiches are cold and one was made without the ingredient it needed to be the "Special " sandwich. The waitress looked at us confused as to what she should do. She went to talk to the manager, and the manager said...wait, the manager never came over! We stopped here on our way to St Augustine for lunch. It was busy but the staff was very efficient. We were told it would be a 30 min wait, but it was only 15. Classic taste, Sonny's are fairly consistent in the food items from location to location. The new sandwiches, such as the whole hog, offer a variety of meat on the same sandwich. The salad bar is pretty good, and it's nice to have a choice of 5 barbecue sauces. I like the smokin' and the sweet the best, and not a fan of the mustard sauce. Last night I had the Signature barbecue turkey dinner at Soney's in Palatka FL. I replaced the Cole slaw with a side salad and specifically asked the young waitress to please bring the salad before the meal. Eventually the salad arrived and by the time I put my dressing on and cut it up, the meal arrived. The turkey was very dry with little taste to it even with bbq sauces. Not sure what happened to the BBQ beans with the new ownership but they tasted chalky and watered down. Overall my family spent over $100. Great service and tasty food! We stopped for lunch after a romp in the Ocala National Forest on our way back to Jacksonville. The ones in Jacksonville haven't any bragging rights after eating at this Sonny's is the best we've been! All staff was friendly....not just our waitress....we met a nice young man (I'm in my 60's) who was on break but stopped to speak with is. I didn't think to ask his name but I enjoyed our short chat. We go to the forest a lot and usually take sandwiches with us but I think we'll be stopping at Sonny's for a quick bite!! Thank you for an enjoyable lunch! read more
