Sonny's BBQ was... fine. Pretty much sums it up. I had the chopped brisket, which was a letdown. It lacked flavor, was pretty fatty, and just didn't land the way brisket should. That said, the portion size was solid...you definitely won't leave hungry. For sides, the mac and cheese was very basic, nothing bad but nothing memorable. The green beans were fine, good enough, but again not something I'd go back for. We started with the cheese curds, which were actually very good, but they came with a weird dipping sauce that doesn't do them any favors. I'd skip the sauce entirely. Overall, it was a pretty meh experience. If you're hungry and want a lot of food, Sonny's delivers on quantity. But if you're looking for really good BBQ or standout flavor, this probably isn't the spot. read more

Visited Sonny's for lunch during work today. Service was a little slow and the restaurant was not busy. I ordered a small sliced brisket sandwiches with baked beans and iced tea ($16.29) on a regular bun although they served it on garlic toast. Last time I visited the garlic toast was extremely salty but today it was just right. The brisket I ordered was lean and it was pretty perfect in every way. The baked beans were good but the sauce was overpowering so I probably won't order those again. Two critiques, I expect a barbeque restaurant to smell like barbeque...this one smelled of a strong cleaning chemical which was off putting. The second critique is that from the time we ordered to when the food was delivered to our table felt like a long time, especially for a restaurant where almost everything is pre-made. It has been wonderful to have a Sonny's BBQ closer to my home and right outside of Disney property. Sonny's has consistently tasty meats, delicious sides, and excellent sauces no matter if you are a tomato, vinegar, or mustard base fan. My usual go to is a Whole Hog sandwich, with pulled pork, sliced pork, and sausage, but with a promo today I tried the Pick of the Pit to give the brisket a try. The brisket was moist and juicy and pulled apart easily. The chicken is deliciously spiced with crispy skin and juicy meat. Drinks come in gigantic cups and are bottomless, so if you want a gallon of sweet tea to complete your southern feast, go right ahead. They really missed an opportunity when they remodeled this space into a Sonny's. I use the word "remodeled" loosely, because there really is no decor. I've been in warehouses with more ambiance. Perhaps that accounts for it being largely uninhabited on a Friday at lunch hour. That lack of customers didn't translate into attentive service, though. It was largely missing as well. I even went searching for our server at one point, and short of going into the kitchen did my best to locate anyone on duty. The cheese curd appetizer was not recognizable as cheese curds, but it was okay, more like conventional cheese battered and deep-fried. Certainly there was no hint of the dry rub coating, but had it been described differently I would have been perfectly happy with it. The BBQ food is pretty much Sonny's standard, which is to say average barbecue with a good assortment of sauces. I had the three-meat combo and was surprised that I found the chicken tenders the best item, of all things. The St. Louis ribs could definitely not be accused of falling off the bone, and were definitely not worth the upcharge. Sonny's baked beans are good, though, as is the coleslaw slaw. read more

We are originally from Florida. Sonny's bbq to me is a must and a delicious barbecue staple. We were really looking forward to eating here. It was an absolutely disappointing experience. The food was just not good. They were out of unsweet tea so we went ahead and got the famous sweet tea and that was reliable. It was very good. The ribs were fall off the bone and that is good. But the pork had so much fat. It just seems like the food was fatty. The bbq beans were like tomato based and weren't flavorful. The coleslaw was bland and it lacked flavor. The food was definitely not a good representation of what we are accustomed to enjoying and what we remember from eating at Sonny's. The restaurant was clean. And the service was nice. read more

We have eaten Sonny's both in restaurant and take-out dozens of times. They are consistently good, and the portions are normally quite good as well. This is our first takeout order from this location and it was disappointing. The package, while closed, looked like it was very quickly and carelessly done - we ate it, not a huge deal, but enough for us to notice and question it. The Brisket was good, but very thickly sliced for some reason - again, tasted fine, but not like the normal cuts we've had dozens of times. The bad part was the dessert - their banana pudding is normally amazing. This time the container arrived, maybe 20% filled - maybe. There was almost no pudding in it at all. There were chunks of banana, wafers, whip cream, and remnants of pudding. It felt like we got the very end of a pan that someone scraped up to say they made a portion and put it in the cup - HUGE disappointment on something that is normally so good. This new location is awesome and much needed. I am a fan of Sonny's and now live over in Dr. Phillips area. There are no great BBQ restaurants around. Happy this one is now open. I have visited once and the service was awesome and the restaurant was very clean. The bar area is a big "win" for this area and will definitely draw people in. I ordered pulled pork and brisket. The brisket was a bit on the "fatty" side, but the waitress brought another plate that was a less fat cut. Giving this place 2 stars because it seems they are a new location so they may still be getting things in order. Unfortunately though they have a lot to work on. It was a Sunday, there were only 2 servers one of which was brand new (her first day). She was very nice and tried her best but don't understand how management would not have an additional person helping for this reason. Service was very slow from taking our orders to bringing our food and then check. Again, not servers fault, they were trying to keep up. The food did not meet standards either. They did not have baby back, apparently the cook did not leave it over night at right temp! How that happens at a bbq place i don't know. Everything was super dry. We had chicken St Louis ribs and brisket. Not one of those was cooked right! Too dry! The bbq sauces are good and the Mac n cheese was just ok. I recently ate here and am surprised I never knew this place was here despite going to the outlet down the street several times. We dined in and our waiter, a young black man, was very hospitable. I wish I'd gotten his name to give him a proper shout out. We all enjoyed our meals. The ribs are fall off the bones tender. 100% recommend. My only complaint is I really wish the food was hotter; I like my food hot out the oven/off the stove and my sweet potato fries were cooked a little longer than I would have liked. So happy that we have a Sonny's in the area. I sure once the tourists find out it will be hard for us to get a table. Being up the street from Disney springs will make it a great family go to for those with a car staying at Disney. We love Sonny's. Have for decades and this location doesn't disappoint. Even my vegetarian 9 year old loves it here. He always gets a salad and Mac and cheese. It seems to be a smaller location compared to some of the others. So it will probably fill up fast. Well, the fresh and deliciousness didn't last long. On my 3rd visit, again I drive about hour to get there, my food was cold and clearly not freshly cooked. Even my server agreed that my fries looked old. I sent the food back and asked for a refund. My husband's sampler was cold as well, but he ate it. While there we also tried to peach cobbler egg rolls. I wasn't a fan, but my husband enjoyed them and they were hot. For me, they were doughey and the filling wasn't giving tasty peach cobbler. On my 2nd visit I went in the drive thru and my food was piping hot. So hot that I had to let it cool to eat it. What I observed is, they seem to serve fresher food when they aren't busy. There was a little crowd when I visited this 3rd time and I sort of had a feeling the food wouldn't be fresh as they are trying to keep up with the demand. If I could give you a negative score I would. I grew up on Sonny's bbq. I loved Sonny's now it will take an act of God to return. Did you know you can die if you consume undercooked chicken, I guess they do not know that. I have tried this location multiple times thinking Sonny's is a Local icon and they would get it together. Nope they did not and today I ordered some chicken wings not realizing I should have said please cook them properly. I am guessing the majority of the customers at this location are tourists and leave in a couple of days and do not complain. So if you are looking for a great barbecue place because you are visiting our great area, don't eat here because you may have to stay in a hospital. If you are local, do not go here, it's not like any Sonny's anywhere, or you may have to go to the hospital as well. I gave you multiple chances. What will be the next restaurant in that building.
