I should start by saying that we try not to have fast food too frequently, but I have two daughters who LOVE the idea of 'picnics in the car' and we've been three times since Sonic opened. I went in with minimal expectations for several reasons. Any time a new restaurant opens in this county the first several weeks are hellacious... Usually overcrowded, with excessive wait times, and poorly trained employees. I was expecting a long wait with sub-par service and I was pleasantly surprised. Our first visit was a trip through the drive-thru as all of the drive-in stalls were occupied. The line was a bit slow, but not outrageously so. As soon as it was our turn to order we saw how hard the 'new kid on the block' was trying to beat the 'new restaurant' stereotypes. The young lady taking our order was polite, friendly, and repeated our order perfectly. The order was repeated at the window (correctly) and the entire transaction was extremely pleasant. Food was just what we ordered, was up to Sonic's quality that we'd experienced previously in Gilroy, and was ready quickly. Our next two visits were both at a drive-in stall. Both were equally pleasant and the service was MUCH quicker than expected. The kids on skates were polite and helpful, and the food was hot and met expectations. I'd agree with the other comment about the square speed bumps (wth?), but other than that (and a somewhat inconvenient location), our experiences have been very positive. The calorie content is WAY too high to be a regular stop for us, but for a treat, it's a great choice. read more

I went to order walking and I was told they could not take my order that they are only taking orders by the drive thru... Unless you have at least 30 mins or more to spare don't bother. I've gone there 3 times and have been unable to get service. I just sat at the order menu for 15 mins after I pushed the button. Today I went and I ordered a Medium an all my drink and blast and they gave me smalls and charged me for the medume sizes. The small shake I did order that they got at least rite in size and price had one cherry on top and a bunch of cherry stems..FN Garbage!!! and the cherry limeade I got had a cherry in it with black spots so that crap was obviously old and the the OREO COOKIE Blast had butterfinger in it. Super sow service. Took about 8 minutes after pushing the button for someone to answer. Food delivered 24 minutes later. Fries were cold and stale. Had to ask for new ones which took forever again. Burger party was chewy like a taffy. The credit card reader did not work on the sign. The car hop took my card and left for about 5 minutes, she was coming back out and turned to another car and went and talked to them for another 3 or so minutes before returning my card. I see why this establishment is unclaimed on Yelp because the food and service are just awful! We pushed the button and the intercom had some communication problems at first and then we placed our order. With high expectations, I have seen the commercials over the years and this day I finally got an opportunity to give this place a try. What I got was uncooked frozen mozzarella sticks, a cafeteria type burger, heck we ordered two Frozen Classic Lemonades, and they gave us two sprites. I love sonic but we live so far that we rarely get it. Every time we have stopped at this location service has been terrible. One time in the middle of the afternoon we were informed that there was no car hop service and that we could only do drive through. There were so many other people there in the drive through it wasn't worth it. We went again last night and once again went to the car hop parking spot and hit the service button only to be kicked off and have to hit the button again 4 times. I really love Sonic but the Salinas location is awful. The last time I was there I ordered a chicken strip sandwich and tator tots and received a cheeseburger and French fries. Lol. The wait is incredibly long and the workers all seem frantic. They could literally care less about what your food looks like. I wanted to give them another chance because i usually have a good experience at Sonic so today I ordered a waffle cone with m&ms/strawberry's and they put the cone in a cup and the toppings on the bottom of the cup. There are red pieces of God knows what floating in my Dr. Pepper, and my hot dog is smothered in sauce (and cold). Ah. Food is cheap so I suppose you get what you pay for.
