I'm so disappointed, first when the lady delivers my food the size of my medium size drink is the same size as my kids meal drink that was one. So I decided to keep the extra tip I had in cash to myself, but in the app all the money that I saved, I put it in as a tip wish I could get that back. The worst part is I open my burger. I see a hair cooked to my patty. I text a friend and let them know as I'm looking around the burger. I see three additional hairs. I was totally discussed. I took all the food and threw it in the trash, including drinks. I will never come to this location again. The only reason why I was here is because I came to buy something from a local store, and my son wanted something for the long drive back home. Went here a few times over the last 2 years. It's the only Sonic closest to me. Food has always been hot and good. Service is fast and accurate. However you can only order through the drive-through and can't go inside. The bring to your car service isn't provided sometimes. Close to the highway so it's a bit noisy, but the parking spaces provide enough shade to enjoy eating there. Big fan of the hotdogs and Nerds slushie. They used to have a pretzel bun hotdog but removed it which is disappointing. Overall good place, but with little business it lacks what makes Sonic unique. read more

I've visited multiple Sonic locations and never had a problem, but this Middletown location has consistently failed to deliver. Every time we pull up to the kiosk to place an order, we're told, 'Only drive-thru.' A few months ago, we went through the drive-thru as instructed, only to watch other customers get served right at the kiosk. Today, same scenario: we parked at the kiosk, and an employee told us, yet again, 'Drive-thru only.' To top it off, one of the employees was sitting outside eating. At 3 p.m. on a Thursday, the place was practically empty - no reason they couldn't bring out our order. I'm not asking for roller skates or extra service; I just want my food delivered to my car, the way Sonic's model promises. If this location is going to refuse kiosk service, they should just close them down rather than mislead customers and waste our time. I've never had this issue at other Sonics. Food was really good, I did get mustard when I didn't ask but, it was still good. Just if you don't like mustard just take it off. Service was fast and they even told me that the fries were hot and to wait for them to cool down. My wife and daughter went to our local Middletown NJ Sonic to get a vanilla milkshake to share. On the way home they both discovered fur/feather material on their tongues. It had such a foul taste it lead to them opening the lid to discover a black mass with thousands of little animal like substances throughout the shake. We immediately contacted the police to file a police report as this had to be done on purpose by one of the employees. I've been contacting Sonic since the episode dozens of times only to be told it has been escalated and someone would be getting back to me. Well it's been 5 months and I can wait no more. This location continues to decline. My last three visits, it was drive thru only. Although I just saw an employee bring an order to another car, however, I order and am told it's drive thru only. I guess at 2:41 this location moves to drive thru only. Wouldn't it be proactive to have a sign out there notifying customers or at least a message on your screens (well the ones that work)? Or better yet, stick to the Sonics business model? The woman taking orders could also use some customer service training. I was still trying to order but she never came back on the mic. I ordered everything on it and got one small tomatoes slice about 6 chips of lettuce and no pickles or onions. Also the bun was all smashed up, i hate that. I'm not really sure how many chances I can give a place. We've been going to Sonic sporadically since we moved to Middletown about 3 years ago. I don't think I have ever received a fully correct and hot order. I've had experiences in the past where they forgot the hot dog bun. Often the fries are not hot, and the chicken is room temp at best. Today was the icing on the cake however. I ordered a kids meal, a #6 and an additional order of popcorn chicken. I roll up to the window and give the employee my card, she was very friendly. She hands me a bag, and says we're waiting on one more thing. I take the bag inside my car and it smells like Satan's butthole. Apparently, someone ordered a hotdog with chili onions and pure hell on it. The employee comes back to the window ready to hand me a giant shake. I tell her this isn't what I ordered, she looks completely flabbergasted. I tell her my order, she tells someone inside. I see a carhop employee roll indoors carrying a tray with a soda, kids apple juice and three bags. (That was my order). Someone grabs the bags and brings them in the back where I can't see. Another employee refunds the original order and recharges my card the correct amount. Eventually I'm handed three scrunched up bags, at this point I just take the bags and leave. I pull up into the parking lot to just quickly check things look right .. surprisingly, they appear right. Half way home, my 3 year old asks for a fry. I reach in and grab cold fries. I now know, the bags they brought in the back were not dumped and remade. I reluctantly give my kid the fry, just hoping that no one touched the food. We get home, I find out there was no juice in the bag for the kids meal, no toy for the kids meal and the cheeseburger was not plain as requested. TL;DR Slow service, consistently wrong orders, cold fries. Save your money, make your own hot dog. read more

This is not exactly how you Sonic...... I was prepared to give this place a better rating, but then the truth set in. I had wondered what the hell other reviewers were talking about and why they were being so cruel to this location. While I didn't go through some of the things in these reviews, I can say I believe most of the other reviews now. Living in NY, I don't have too many Sonics in an acceptable driving range to go out of my way for. So I happened to be in the area and figured I'd try another location after the hit or miss I've experienced with Sonic before. I placed my order for myself and my companion and within maybe 2 minutes, the food came out to the car. I assumed at that point that the order was not at all made to order (despite requests for no mustard and such on the burger) and probably was sitting there. It wasn't even busy in this lot, so there must have been a lot of food sitting there until someone would maybe order something. But ok, as long as it tasted like decent fast food it shouldn't matter right? I ordered one of the hotdogs - the bacon certainly was made probably hours ago and kept warm and it was crispy as hell....but not in that good way. The cheese tasted like it came out of a can or bottle, but ok. The hotdog was edible enough, but just tasted like the toppings weren't fresh. The bacon burger was ok - a little more than lukewarm but acceptable and they got the order for no mustard, but the bacon still tasted hours old. The fries however.......tasted like they were at least a day old and just heated up in a microwave. I've never had to throw out my fries in any fast food place before, so this is a first. I mean, how do you actually mess up fries? Seriously, they tasted as they would if you were to order some, put them in your fridge, and then heat them up the next day in the microwave. But we both had to toss ours out. The candy slush my companion ordered was actually pretty good. The waitress was friendly enough. The Sonic credit card machines on the menu board seem to work about half the time - a problem I had with other Sonic locations. I've been to less than 10 Sonics ever - the ratio isn't that good for the company and I'm getting sick of trying. This location needs new management and a complete overhaul. read more

Very strange. They often serve one or more components of the order that's not hit enough. I've had room temperature cheeseburgers come out of here. Now, when you start with as marginal a product as this is, you need to serve it hot. This weekend we were headed to Holmdel and hadn't had breakfast. Against my better judgment I agreed to wifey and pulled in. Tater tots were barely warm. Not even warm. French toast sticks, which are actually pretty good, were flaming hot. The employees were nice but the food was horrible. My 'crispy' chicken sandwich was so hard, dry and not fresh at all. The lettuce was wilted and yellow and bun was soggy. It appeared to be old and over cooked. The tots were almost flash fried and very pale and not crispy and the lemonade was like drinking pure syrup. After reviewing the menu while parked in a stall I realized you don't order by touch screen which I did not know at first. You press the red button and then a guy takes your order. Now I knew I was probably going to eat here after my meeting so I read the menu before I even left my house. I guess not all Sonics have the same menu so the double quarter pounder wasn't available. So I ordered the double cheeseburger, medium tots and I decided to try the Oreo cheesecake master shake. The double cheeseburger pretty hefty and piping hot and delicious as hell. The ketchup, mayo and mustard created a dressing that drenched the burger well. All the toppings were fresh. Tots were cooked the way I like them not overdone. The shake was pretty good but should come with a spoon as there was this chocolatey Oreo like substance at the bottom and I had to dig it out with a straw and made a mess. The food was generally messy but really good. Excellent fast food experience, and when I'm in the area again I will stop in. read more

The only thing missing? The hot fudge & any signs of chocolate. Looks like more & more shake offers are gone from the menu & more food is posted. I don't go to you for burgers. I've had them & they are nothing special for the cost. But the shakes were always great. No more. With a Wendy's across from this location, I predict you will be closed sometime soon. I just went to this Sonics location at 4:00 PM today . I ordered food at the sit down place . The server came out forgetting my ketchup . I ended up having to ask three different employees three times to finally get my ketchup because the first two just forgot about it . And to make things worse it was a bit windy and one of the umbrellas flew off and hit me in the back . Luckily it wasn't my head . If I was a little kid I could have gotten hurt . I discovered Sonic Drive In when I used to travel a lot. They were well represented in the Mid-West and Southern States. In fact I have travelled to towns where the only place to eat was Sonic. The Middletown Sonic is the 2nd one in the area. The food is what it is and I would not eat there consistently. The service is quick and I usually sit on the tables rather than use the car hops since I do not like eating in my car. The burgers, shakes and tots are the go to items. Really cannot go wrong. The hotdogs are just Ok and I would go somewhere else if I was going to get a dog. read more
