Against my wife's strong arguments I came here anyway with her and my son. We pulled into the drive-in booth, and looked over the menu. It didn't list any of the specials or new items that are seen on the commercials, so we both ordered chicken sandwich meals. From the time I pushed the red order button, here is how our meal went: 0:00 - Pushed button, placed order. Two chicken sandwich meals, one with pickles and one without mayo. The customizations showed correctly on the order board. 7:30 minutes - meal came out, woman took my cash and went to make change. She also took my receipt, which I never got back. My wife comments to me that her chicken is lukewarm. 8:30 minutes - discovered my chicken sandwich had mayo. Waited a couple of minutes for my change to be brought back so I could tell the waitress of the mistake, but got tired waiting. 12:00 minutes - waitress returns with change, I tell her of mistake. As she leaves, we ask for ketchup packets (she doesn't hear us or ignores us). 14:00 minutes - I go into store for ketchup packets. There is a line, and no employees to be seen at all. I look through employee door and see two staff. When woman comes out from back, I ask for ketchup. 19:00 minutes - I assume waitress will never bring a replacement sandwich, so I push the red button. It is answered somewhat promptly, and I explain the situation. No apology, but I am promised they will take care of it. 24:00 minutes - a hot, correctly made chicken sandwich comes out. I can now see how lukewarm my wife's sandwich actually was. The guy who brought it out game me a surely "Sorry" and that was that. Sonic might claim to be fast food, but it certainly wasn't fast and arguably wasn't food. Sadly, the only thing they have going for them is funny commercials. read more

I ordered a classic chicken sandwich combo with pickles, fries and bottled water. At $9+ for a chicken sandwich I expected a decent sized piece of crispy chicken, but I should've known better since the other 2 times I've eaten at Sonic the food has been garbage. My food came out lukewarm and I'm pretty sure both the fries and sandwich had been sitting around in a heating unit for the past 15+ minutes if not more. When I said to him I can't carry these without a trey and there is no seal on them his response was, " then don't fu$%king take them and get the f$%k out of my store. Our visit to this drive thru was a horrendous experience... We ordered over $80 worth of food and the tater tots were ice cold and the cheese was unmelted on them. They missed the honey bbq chicken popcorn chicken in one of our combo meals. They gave us French fries instead of tater tots for one of the meals. They completely were slammed and we tried to be understanding but they were not very accommodating to our needs. When confronted the drive they workers were very hostile and demanded they had put everything ordered in the bags but this was untrue. My friend had to go stand up at the drive they line at the window to get them to give us the proper food we had ordered. The woman in charge, who claimed to be a manager was very rude and told my friend to shut up twice and that she would not reimburse her for more than one tater tot even though all the orders of tater tots were cold and soggy by this point. This woman had an inexcusable attitude and should be given a lesson in how to deal with unhappy customers and have her employees she is supervising double check the whole order is there before giving attitude to the customers through the drive thru window. This location has gone downhill not only in quality of food but in service as well. Since opening it has declined in both areas and sadly we will not be making a visit to this one again and will be visiting another location next time we want to get Sonic food. First off: the two stars are wholly and only on the merits of the food for my one visit. I happened upon an oddly empty hour of the day, noticed almost no cars in the lot, noted I hadn't eaten yet at all and was eligible for a fast food meal, seized my chance to zip in, and when I got inside, I was the only customer. Which makes it utterly inexcusable that my food was cold. Taters, cold. Middle of the burger, cold. Bun, cold. I don't think it's piling on to additionally note the quality of the ingredients was food-service level. Like a Sysco food service burger flopped at a cafeteria. Which does not taste good when cold. I am giving them all kinds of mulligans for service and so forth for the break-in period. That the traffic and layout is awful has been well-established by now by the continuous traffic jam on Route 7 created by installing a car-hop place with a drive in on a corner of a major state highway. As noted, major problems with both, but not counted in the review. But cold mediocre fast food gets two stars no matter what the excuse. That it was early in the day makes it atrocious, not an accident of production. I've been to other Sonics before and hadn't quite seen why it was so hype-worthy, and now I'm seeing it pretty clearly: the power of advertising. Temperature notwithstanding. The car hop schtick harkens back to the old days, to be sure, and I have fond memories of A&W, with or without roller skates. And they will bring your food out to you at your table or at your car if you're in a car hop lane. But so will Smash Burger, or Denny's for that matter, for a similar price. And both of those places have served, yes, wait for it, HOT food most of the times I go. In any event, should you decide to go despite this particular warning, here's some hints: - traffic is now entering only on North Wade, the little connector road between Denny's and Sonic. Sometimes you can enter going westbound on seven, but most of the time your best bet is to turn north at the intersection and circle around. - if you want to try the rollerskating car hops, take the rightmost lane as you pull in to the lot; the lane to the left goes to the drive through, which you'll have to take all the way around since at present you can't exit onto 7/Troy-Schenectady. (It's perilously close to the intersection, which was bad enough when it was King's Buffet, but I can't ever see trying to do this now.) - inside they have TVs and "Sonic Radio" playing, at just the level of volume that you can't really hear either one. First time visit. Pleasantly surprised. From the commercials I thought it would be rubbish. They have an online order app and if I had to pull up and read that entire menu I'd be there for a week. My first dine in Sonic!!! Super cool (I thought)! I didn't even know they existed! Very clean in the inside looks like any typical fast food spot... He was wiping down all the seats when I walked in which was good. They also have the drive up option as well where you ring the button and they bring your food out to you. A big location! It was happy hour so we came for the slushie! If you are passing by one and it's between 2 to 4 pl stop by? Half price slushies and now after 8pm you can get half off shakes. Good deal for a sweet treat or an easy fast food option. My husband's favorite is the cranberry limeade slushie however I he was not impressed with it here. And the ice is my fav type of ice. The wait for a one beverage order was pretty ridiculous. No one was in front of us in the line but why did we wait so long?! Thankfully we were not in a rush but it was pretty ridiculous and then when I asked about our one liquid beverage he tells me he will go get it in just a second and then comes out with it?! What in the world lol. I'm confused. Went back later for happy hour (all about second chances :))again at 8 pm the same day when the shakes we're half off! The drive thru was long so we pulled into one of the stalls to order from the car and have the order brought out but guess what the ice machine was down so no ice cream or any drinks involving ice we're available! Either buggy software or user error on my part, the coupon disappeared just when I am ready to show it to the drive thru young woman. She gave me the tots anyway which I appreciated. It's not about the tots but rather willingness to believe a customer. I was initially annoyed but proper customer service saved it. Corn dog was just OK. The tator tots were good. Though the food did come out hot, which other yelpers have complained about, it didn't matter. It was not good. The chicken sandwich was tough, plain, and tasted artificial. The onion rings were dry, hard, and I called it quits after eating only one. Hot dogs...more disappointment. Bun lacked any substance, hot dog itself no flavor, cheese had an artificial Velveeta flavor and texture. Highlight was the limeade which had chunks of pineapple in it, not too sweet but the ice tasted weird. Maybe their machine isn't quite broken in yet? Can't speak to their cold treats, maybe that's where their niche will be though it's hard to believe it will be good enough for them to survive. Sonic - makes me think sparklers and techno fab and future and rocket ships. In reality: NOT. OK for starters the traffic pattern at Sonic is SO STUPID. Because cars were seriously backing up on Route 7 (due to glee at having a new Sonic and/or because the parking lot is SO RIDICULOUSLY SMALL and there are not as yet any drones delivering my meal) they closed that entrance. Which now means if you pull into the parking lot from the side road, and there isn't a spot, you have to back up into the line of cars waiting to get in to get out. SO STUPID. The parking lot was full (we parked behind Denny's right next door) but the dining room was just half full. BRILLIANT. Then the woman that took my order screwed things up: I didn't want cheese on one burger, which is NOT on the menu, so I said I wanted it plain, and what I got was a PLAIN burger - no cheese but no lettuce or tomato or onion or anything else - sheesh. Just a hamburger, Sonic - or are you too far out there to remember what a hamburger is??? The cheeseburger with the works ($4.19) was sticky in my mouth: sticky bread, sticky cheese, the meat was the right color and not sticky, a nice amount of lettuce, pickle and overall kind of boring. The small fries ($1.19) was small, just OK, reminiscent of McDonald's knock offs. I REALLY liked my strawberry limeade ($1.69) - a bit fizzy, not too sweet, bits of real berry to block up the straw - this is something you don't get everywhere.
