When I originally encountered Sonic Drive-In when living in Fullerton in 2006, I genuinely enjoyed the menu offerings as there was a particular level of pride and professionalism attached to the name, however that no longer is the experience I'm encountering in 2026. After passing up on Burger King due to them not having inside seating and their drive-thru being the only option, we tried reliving the grand days of Sonic's. I reckon a better move would've been to "drive by" as the experience we had was truly horrible as the comprehension levels of the woman at the register was non-existent as "no ice" in our drinks was requested, yet I got enough ice to sink the Titanic all over again. My Wife's chicken tender meal was catastrophic as there was a poor interpretation of "Texas Toast" which didn't come with butter, a single onion ring that looked like it might've been swept from underneath the fryers as I'd say it was more of a fossil than being "crispy". What they called a "Smashburger" was more of a "Squashburger" as their was more ingredients in the container than the bun itself. $23 I'll never get back as I had chosen to chase nostalgia that is fine when the experience delivered lives up to it, but such wasn't the case. Ordered a small Classic Caramel Shake, they replied with "a banana shake", I said no a Caramel shake, they said "banana shake with Caramel?", I said no just a Carmel shake no banana, they replied okay, "one large caramel shake", I said no a small shake, she said okay "small shake". Our second order was for a mini Classic Peanut Butter shake, after we ordered the screen prompt said "Reeses Pieces Peanut Butter Shake", we said your screen has Reeses Pieces in the shake, we only want the Peanut Butter Shake, they replied, "do you want Reeses Pieces in your shake?", we said no. This went back and forth a few more times and the screen items never changed from "Reeses Pieces" even though we ordered a plain Peanut Butter shake. Time to slide my card for payment, tried 6-7 times to pay, it would not go through. All this was about 4-5 minute ordeal to order two shakes and pay. Waitress finally comes out, we tell her the peanut butter shake description is wrong on the screen and card reader doesn't work. This was my second time coming to this location. My sister usually gets deals here, so today we both got strawberry slushes with sweet cream. It was 79 cents today so that was a good deal. Last time I came I got the cherry slush as well. Their menu consist of: burgers & fries they also have combo too, $1.99 menu that has hot dogs, tater tots, and queso wraps, cheeseburgers, snacks, flavorista flavors, breakfast, frozen shakes, and more. Cherry slush: the cherry was very tart, not too sweet, but it was tart. The slushy was smooth, silky, and easy to drink. I would give this drink a 3/5 since I didn't how tart it was and if I added sweet cream it would've helped the tartness out. Strawberry slush with sweet cream: the strawberry slush has a great aromatic, smooth, and easy to drink. The sweet cream was sweet, delicious, and melts in your mouth with the slushy. I would give this a 5/5 since this was the BEST drink I have ever had. I would get this again with different flavors. The service was fast & employee brought out our drinks very quick. Since I had a few minutes before an appointment and Sonic was close by, I stopped here for a quick bite. The person that took my order was polite and efficient. She made sure she had my order correct. The wait for my order was short. The car hop that delivered my food was polite and friendly, She made sure I got my napkins, ketchup packets and straw. I ordered a hamburger, fries (no salt) and a medium drink. The burger was good but nothing to write home about. However, the fries were nasty. They were cold and crunchy. Crunchy like they were overcooked, They looked like crumbs. They were just bits and tiny pieces. The largest fries were no more than a half inch long. In addition, the fry container was barely full. I ate some and chose to throw out the rest. It is hard for me to imagine that somebody would scrape up nasty fries like this, put them in a fry container and send them out to a customer. My friend and I were in the neighborhood and visited this location around 4:45 pm. There was no line in he Drive-Thru and the parking lot was not too busy. I ordered a double smash burger with mozzarella sticks and a strawberry lemonade. There are never any Sonic locations near where I live. I see their commercials and I'm always like, "Yumm! That milkshake looks good!" and wish I could try their food. They come up with some really (seemingly) delicious mashups in their shakes and I love me a good milk shakey every once in a while. I know, I know, it's fast food but hey, sometimes I get cravings so, don't judge! How did I find this location you ask? I was in Huntington headed to a dealership and saw a Sonic sign in the distance. Me: "NO WAY! There's a Sonic here?!? Awesome!!" Passenger in the car: ... Krickets ... I drove in, pulled up into a slot, and noticed that not a single item I have ever seen on the commercials was offered on the menu. There was an interactive screen which was pretty cool but upon inputting my order and attempting to slide my card through the reader, I realized it didn't work. BZZZZ! Minus a star. I pushed the red button to ask how to use the machine and the person on the other end informed me she'd have to take my order. I got a "fresh banana shake" and a "bacon cheeseburger on crispy sourdough". I then waited. And waited. And waited. And waited. And... you get the idea. Fifteen minutes later I was hangrier than ever and went inside the empty restaurant to find out WTF was going on with my food. Did they have to go hunting for the cow or wait for the banana plant to produce fruit???? I mean SERIOUSLY!! BZZZZ! Minus another star. There was not one single person at the counter. So, I waited. See the theme here? I FINALLY see a head zip past the window in the door to the kitchen and push the door open like, "HELLO?!?!?" I went back to my car and 5 minutes later another teenager comes out with my order. She asks for my card & says the screen didn't take the payment because it's broken. I ask where her card reader is and she says she "has to take the card to the back to run it". Well that's 2000% shady to say the least. Needless to say my card was and will be in LOCK mode until I need to make a purchase then it's getting locked again immediately. Not trying to rack up bogus charges from what ever sham is being run out of this location. BZZZZ! Minus a star. Now to the food. I open the wrapper for the burger and it's bone dry meat, the bread was dry & NOT crispy, the lettuce was soggy, there's ZERO bacon and ZERO sauce. Imagine me making a stank face and saying, "What the???" Next, I'm like ok let's try this shake. Big mistake. It was literally a half a banana thrown into a cup with soft serve ice cream on top. YES.
